In November we received word that the eagles had moved to a live pine and were building a new nest. Being eagles, however, they can change their minds! They have now stopped work on the new nest and moved back to the dead tree within view of the camera. It looks as if we will be able to share their nesting season with them after all.
Stay tuned as we go to live streaming video and an eagle's eye view of nesting bald eagles.
Good Morning all, Its still dark here. Heidi is getting out of the yard while I am at work and I am waiting for light to find out where the stinker is getting out. I had a neighbor waiting on my door step as I got out of my car last night. Its seems she is harassing the mailman. Boy that nest looks cold. too cold for any babes to be in it. I have tickets for concert tonight so my son and family are going with me. manhiem steem roller. I know I spelled that wrong but you get the idea. My grand daughter gets a big kick out of being in the company suite. She is 10 and Diana's sister. Have a great day everyone. I will be reading from work..

Good morning! It is warm here today, 24, compared to you all. Snow has started, but seems to be going to hit Nebraska. That was terrible about the shooting in Omaha, about 1 1/2 south of me. I have been to that mall many times. Scary world we live in, isn't it?

We are sorta snowed in here this morning. The schools are closed, but it doesn't take very much snow to close the schools. Our school system needs to take lessons from a state that has snow all winter long. They need to learn to deal with it.
I don't think we have had a visit from Lib & Belle yet today, but, isn't the nest beautiful?

Yes, it is. I saw the video from yesterday's video. That was really good. I am working on pictures now, but I took so many it will take a while to post them and pick which ones to use. I work and check cams, then work some more.

Hi, Wanda, between our nest and Blackwater, you could entertain a small legion of kids with winter sports.
Looks like the roads were too icy for Suzanne this morning.... She has to drive a long ways, I guess, so it's very understandable. If there's black ice on the road, it's understandable not to want to drive down the block.

Hi, Mema Jo. Actually, the night I saw the Monitor, after I had shut down the blog, another Monitor appeared in the same area right under the camera. And it was at least as big.
I don't know what was going on, but they couldn't quite see each other, I don't think. Somehow the first one got scent of the other one and just eased out of the picture to the right.

I see ZZ is blowing zzzzzzzzzz's, and the Hummingbirds are doing "stack pack" this morning. No more fuzz on the oldest one's back, which was a sign with the Peregrine that it was about to fledge...let's see if it means the same with Hummers.
Did you read the report of ZZ's exam yesterday?? They could have a video up by now.

There is a great video on little ZZ...you won't believe how cute and inquisitive she is now.
At least one Polar Bear playing in the snow on that cam...either he's wrestling with another bear or an inanimate thing.

They are trying to find another zoo where he had more space & could mate.
My sister sent me the article and video this a.m. Knut ways 240lbs...I hope they do find him another place, they were feeding him croissants and put him on a diet last July, they are going to kill him with kindness.

Hi, eagle lovers! Jumping in here real quick. We had about 4 inches of snow up here at the office. We couldn't get to work yesterday because our truck with the plow was broken down. Our road was real slick when we left Tuesday evening - so we were all hesitant to try to make it up here yesterday. It was 10 degrees at my house this morning! BRRRR! Time to go home - bye for now.

WOW.....the National Christmas Tree is beautiful....hubby and I sometimes go down on Christmas Eve to see it.
Thank you for your comments on my pictures. It was wonderful seeing so many eagles. The only other time I saw that many was in Ketchikan, Alaska and every where you looked, there were more.
That one little hummer can fly pretty well. I think it heard the forecast and thinks the nest is the place to be for a while. It flew up, turned around and sat back down in the nest.
They were great, Deb, glad you are so close to them.

Remembering Pearl Harbor

This Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, is the 66th anniversary of a defining event in world history — the Japanese “sneak” attack on Pearl Harbor. Dec. 7 is truly a “date which will live in infamy.” This article is not only a historical review; it is a reminder of what can happen when a nation is lax and unprepared in the face of a growing threat to its security.
At 7:55 a.m — Pacific time — on Sunday, Dec. 7, 1941, while Americans in Hawaii were likely eating breakfast, preparing for church, or contemplating the upcoming Christmas holiday, the Imperial Japanese military was initiating a devastating preemptive aerial and seaborne assault on the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
The attack left more than 2,000 U.S. military personnel and civilians dead, and wounded more than 1,000.
The attack that President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed was “a date which will live in infamy” resulted from long-simmering tensions between the United States and Japan over the latter’s thirst for global supremacy.
The attack on Pearl Harbor began when more than 400 Japanese torpedo and dive-bomber planes took off from the aircraft carriers Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, Hiryu, Shokaku, and Zuikaku less than 300 miles from Pearl Harbor. The strike force, commanded by Vice Admiral Chuichi Nagumo, was also composed of two converted carriers, two light carriers, two battleships, and a number of cruisers, destroyers, and support ships. They were joined by five Japanese midget submarines that were either captured, destroyed, or abandoned in the attack.
The planes swooped over the mountains of Oahu and headed straight for “Battleship Row” in the harbor.
The aircraft carriers USS Enterprise, USS Lexington, and USS Saratoga were reportedly the initial targets of the Japanese, but they were all detailed out to sea in the weeks preceding the attack.
But the Japanese had other targets. Five of eight U.S. battleships were sunk as a result of the attack. Three destroyers were wrecked; a minelayer and target ship had capsized; two cruisers were badly damaged; and many other ships needed repairs.
Through careful planning and a well-coordinated execution, the attack eliminated the U.S. Navy's battleship force as a possible threat to Japan’s southward expansion. America entered the war with Japan in shock and considerably weakened by the attack.
Eighteen months earlier, President Franklin D. Roosevelt had transferred the U.S. fleet to Pearl Harbor as a presumed deterrent to mounting Japanese aggression in Southwest Asia. The Japanese military, deeply engaged in the seemingly endless war it had started against China in mid-1937, badly needed oil and other raw materials. Commercial access to these was gradually curtailed as the conquests continued.
In 1940, under the Export Control Act, the United States halted trade with Japan and cut off oil exports to them a year later. From then on, the desperate Japanese plotted to seize the oil and mineral-rich East Indies and Southeast Asia, and war in the Pacific seemed inevitable.
By late November 1941, peace negotiations had broken down, and U.S. officials anticipated a Japanese attack into the Indies, Malaya, and probably the Philippines. However, no one predicted that Japan would attack America.
Pearl Harbor was reachable by an aircraft carrier force, and the Japanese navy secretly sent one across the Pacific with greater aerial striking power than had ever been seen on the world's oceans. Soon after, Japanese planes eliminated much of the U.S. air power in the Philippines, and the Japanese army was ashore in Malaya.
Japan achieved its military objectives at Pearl Harbor with little thought to the consequences of her aggression, and for the next five months, until the Battle of the Coral Sea in early May, Japan continued to expand its empire during a series of military offensives that faced little challenge from America or its allies.
However, a decidedly shocked and enraged American public was united in its grief and in its resolve to avenge Pearl Harbor. The memory of Pearl Harbor propelled the United States and its allies to remove Japan and her German and Italian allies as future threats to world peace.
In early June 1942, the Americans gained a measure of revenge at the Battle of Midway. This battle was a decisive victory for the Americans and is widely regarded as the most important naval engagement of the Pacific Campaign of World War II. The destruction of four Japanese aircraft carriers and the loss of more than 200 naval aviators eliminated much of Japan’s striking power.
Today, reminders of the attack on Pearl Harbor dot the island. The stacks of the ships sunk during the attack are visible in the channel leading to the harbor; more than one million tourists regularly visit the battleship USS Arizona Memorial; bullet holes are still visible in the buildings at Naval Station Pearl Harbor; and a large illuminated cross is perched at the very spot the Japanese planes flew over as they began their assault.

Opened my cams, lots of activity this morning. Lots and lots of zebra on africam, the owl hotel actually has an owl in the entrance. Haven't seen one there all week at this hour. There may be a moose on the cam, it is dark, but he has a light but not sure pic is refreshing. Our Precious was asleep all alone, but mom just this sec came in. Bai snuggled up to Precious and they're both sleeping. Tai is asleep on his hey on the rocks, and our nest is still covered in snow. See Lisa has a note on the BW cam that the snow messed something up, they're working on it. Oh, owl stretching wings in front of the cam. That's about it, everybody else alseep. Our fish cam is still down, so turned that back off.
Preccious is sleeping alone again, and here comethe deer in PA. Two of them. Two owls in the hotel just hanging out. Moose cam is not refreshing, so that moose must be from last night.
Oh no! It's starting to snow in PA! Thought that wasn't supposed to happen till tonight! Bummer!! Maybe it's just a quick flurry.

We had a beautiful visit from the two of them at about 4:45 yesterday afternoon. Seeing them play around in that snow was so special....kinda got you in the Holiday spirit. Paula has a video of them frolicking in the snow. Very pretty.
