New thread. Lots of rain here last night.
Yesterday, we turned south onto a road called the Snickersville Turnpike near our house. Up in a tree I saw a bird, likely a hawk I figured, perched 30 feet over the road. As we got closer, we saw it was not hawk, but an adult bald eagle. We stopped the car and watched it for a while. The bird didn't seem the least bit bothered by us...

Just got a phone call from My Karla (Butterfly Mama). She lives in Linden, Va. which is just up the mountain from Front Royal, Va. She said the sound of falling trees awakened her last night and they continued to fall throughout the night and I could hear one falling as we spoke. She has no power. Her hubby made coffee the Old Fashion way, on the wood stove.
It is now raining very hard here. I think the temps are high enough to keep it from turning to ice again. The roads don't seem to be slippery, but that could change.
Don't see any snow or ice at the NZOO!---The 'LITTLE PRINCE' is lying back eating his pile of bamboo!! If you stop & listen you can hear him!
If you look closely beind the panda at NZ, you will see the ice on the trees. Panda is sound asleep. Best thing to do on a day like this.
Good mOrning...icy trees and probably roads here too...33°..so it should start melting...

Hello everyone - Soggy out this am -
we have branches all over the yard -
mainly the neighbors' pine trees.
I assume the Ice got them - power went out just momentarily about 3 different times as I was going to bed last evening.
Steve That was great about you all sighting the eagle. Like Norma said, I think he was from WV and just looking for you. lol
Lisa has new Nest Update remarks & photo on the BWO page. She answered the question I had about the refresh times. That Lisa is On The Ball!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE....HAVE A GOOD ONE It is 47° here. Wanda we have no ice at the zoo, just heavy rain during the night and bad winds predicted this afternoon.
Looked as though Sidekick chased the deer off and then he disappeared....
OTTERS are out at the NZ and everyone in in the pool:).

I guess from seeing ZZ in the den, we just didn't realize how large & mobile she has become! I was thinking Bai had to drag her out there - but by golly I think she walked on her own!
She is much bigger than I thought ZZ was. In the den she looks so small. Look at her going off on her own. Like Mits said "exploring". So cute ( :
MORNIN' JO & DANA---Yesterday afternoon when I was watching SQUIGGLES & BAI----They were outside & lil' PRECIOUS was just every where---fell into a little hole & had to really wiggle to get out!!---BAI just ignored her & continued to eat her bamboo---When PRECIOUS finally got out went over to BAI & climbed up on her!!!---SHE'S A TRIP!!
Mei Xiang used to be right by Tai's side when he went exploring, and would drag him off a branch if he tried to climb, but this is Bai's 4th, so she is really relaxed.
Now the poor eagle at BWO is getting blasted by the wind...

ZZ Bear was ouside with Mom yesterday, as Norma was saying, and it was wonderful to watch her in the sunlight. She tried to taste everything she saw. Tried to take a bite out of the log that she triped over then fell into a hole and took a while to climb out, but she is infalable now. The sky's the limit! I can just forsee her getting into all kinds of predicaments. More fun for us.

Ice is melting here..not windy yet...power outtages and downed trees up in the mountains...I feel lucky.
Jim, Dianna and Wray seem to bicker at the beginning of the season...saw it last year, too!
The male, 01, was at the nest this week.
And for that matter, all 3 were on the nest recently, within the last week or so as I recall.

Has anyone gotten on the Norfolk Botannical Eagle Cam site. They are saying that the eagles are building a new nest in a nearby pine tree and have a video of it. They say that they will have to move their cams to the new nest. So action is starting there now too.
That ZZ Squiggles is just one big fuzz ball. I just love to watch her.
I am not able to get into Cape Coral or Tesoro this afternoon. Anyone else having trouble?

It is 29° and the wind has calmed down. Maybe Lib and Belle will come to the nest and see if the wind did any damage.
Now I see, one of the BWO eagles has a fish, and someone must be flying to close to the platform, both the eagles are yelling again.

Hello Helen, got your card Sat., thanks:) I did see Suzanne Saturday, she came to see me and was getting her haircut. PA was getting hit by a lot of snow and ice yesterday that we missed, guess the roeds were still a mess today.
