HEY SUZANNE---Did anyone see the ROYAL FAMILY yesterday?---Haven't read the blog yet----I have a dental appt. this a.m.!!---But want to see what's happening this a.m.----
Good morning, Suzanne, Norma and Helen. It is a warm 34 here today, I will be gone most of today, have to run up to Sioux Falls. Then tomorrow I am off to California for a week. This will be the first Christmas together for my family in 10 years!
Morning, everyone. Deb, have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS with your family! Enjoy the warmer weather in California.
Thanks, Mits, you have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS too. Looking forward to the time off. I saw Peggy's Cove this morning, it is beautiful with that snow.
Megan, that racoon, or at least a racoon was on the PA cam this morning. Fat little bugger. Looked like he had something to eat, but couldn't see what it was.
Still haven't seen Lib or Belle this morning. Maybe he took her out for breakfast at the Potomac Diner. Or maybe they're both still sleeping in...
Bai and ZZBear just (FINALLY) came back to the den!
That's great news, Norma. Then the letter writing starts again before the year is up! Eventually, they will stop that all together! Let's hope, anyway.
Morning, Dana. Norma, haven't seen the divers in a long time! Had the cam open this morning for a little while, but closed it before it even got daylight. Was cutting some CDs, and didn't want a lot of cams open. Oh Megan, you have no idea! Soooo looking forward to not coming in here for 2 days next week. Mits, I hope they keep the pressure on, but I think this is a concession on Japan's part to shut us up for a little while. I'm sure it won't last, and we'll be back to more letter writing and anything else we can do.
A right whale swam right by my condo, late one afternoon several years ago, Coast Guard was right with it to gently direct it farther out to sea....no one believed me, thought I was into the G&T's
Japan's whaling fleet in the Antarctic will avoid killing humpback whales for now but will press on with plans to catch about 1,000 other whales by early in the new year, a government official said Friday.
The move follows an announcement by Australia on Wednesday that it would send a fisheries patrol ship to gather evidence for a possible international court challenge to halt Japan's yearly slaughter.
"Japan has decided not to catch humpback whales for one year or two," Nobutaka Machimura, a government spokesman, told reporters.
"Japan's relations with Australia could improve, but it depends on how it will see our decision," Machimura said.
He said Japan made the decision after holding talks with the head of the International Whaling Commission.
Here is a little more from the article I found: Japan's whaling fleet set sail last month with plans to catch more than 1,000 whales, including 50 humpbacks. It is due to return to port early next year.
Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura of Japan said earlier Friday that he wanted to discuss whaling with his Australian counterpart.
Komura defended Tokyo's whaling program, saying that it was in line with international treaties and that he saw no problem with it.
Komura said he would like to speak with his Australian counterpart soon. "We will try to seek each other's understanding," he said.
Japan, which says whaling is a cherished cultural tradition, abandoned commercial whaling in accordance with an international moratorium in 1986 but began what it calls a scientific research whaling program the following year.
HELEN!!----NPR didn't elaborate---They just announced it on their a.m. news report!!---must have been the pressure---but report did say they would continue to kill "other" whales!!------Will watch for more info!!
THANKS DEB!----Good information---I agree---it's hard to believe they are going to stop---even for a year---But all the pressure being put on them by the rest of the world---is at least getting their attention---They believe it's their "God Given Right" to continue to hunt & kill the whales!!!---
good Morning all. Well I couldnt sleep so I'm up , dressed and the hot rollers are in. I'm just waiting for it to get light enough to take the garbage out.

Next to the surprise my kids pulled off a couple of weeks ago, on a human level tonight with Santa and some awfully special kids will be the hilight of my Season.

Thanks for that info, Deb. I just wish they'd stop totally, and all whales, not just humpbacks. Doubt that will happen in Japan, though.
Somebody better tell them, GOD is not happy:(

Thanks Mits! I am watching the eagle in Maine eating in that snowy nest!
Just beautiful!
Looks like it is plucking feathers!
Or fur, perhaps.
2 eagles at BW
Looks like feathers!
LOUD crow very nearby!
Can't figure out if it is fur or fin, or feather is my guess, noisy crow wants some of the action or it might be a relative eagle is eating.
I vote for feathers...that was a very long fin!
Whatever it is is yummie!
Are you all done your shopping, Mits?
