Friday

New thread, with a rather crummy shot from my Macbook cam of the Murie cabin, a National Historic Landmark in Moose Wyoming. Slept there last night.

I think it was the excitement of watching the banding, we had fun today......I'm back in Bethesda, had storms coming around the Washington Beltway. Hubby said electricity was off for awile.

TGIF, Friends!!

Looks like I have to catch up to the happenings with the Roadrunner chick and the banding too.

But right now, did the cameraman actually fall out of the tree? And how dare the bander put it on the wrong leg??!

Last year I thought the Santa Cruz chick was male, and so did a lot of other people until the blood test proved otherwise. But this year, I have been convinced it is a female for some time...huge beak and feet.

Hope you all have some excitement this weekend.

Good morning all,

Haven't been here so I have been trying to read thru all the postings WOW there are so many.

Just saw a warbler at my bird feeder, at first I thought it was a finch but nope it was a warbler. Cute little bird too, yellowish green with brown going down the wings.

I have my brothers 3 younguns this weekend as he has a Navy Ball to attend with his wife and then he is off to the desert and we r all starting to eel the affects of his departure yet again.

Jo, so glad your grandson came home safe and sound.

I'll be lurking as it is going to be a very busy day for me.

Enjoy the day, it may be another hot one as I felt it when I went to check on the pool, we finally got the cover off, YAY!

Robyn

PS Wanda I still haven't found what kind of bird it was. It's head is almost round like a mallards yet it is not a mallard nor a duck of any kind, weird...

GOOD MORNING BIRD LOVERSHope you all have a great Saturday. Wedding Shower this afternoon, looks like a nice day for it, hope it is outside. The woman that is throwing it is setting up a Martini Bar, never heard of alcohol at a Bridal Shower before???

GOOD MORNING ROBYNANN & MITS--

Robyn, isn't it exciting to see a new bird in your neighborhood? Drives you crazy when you can't identify it. We had a BobWhite a few days ago. Couldln't see it but sure could hear it! They haven't been down here for about 15 years.

Mits--Martinis at a Bridal Shower may not be the norm, but sounds good.

Well, Wanda, I'm more of a gin and tonic girl, but not in the middle of the day:):)I haven't heard a bob-white since I was a youngin.

Well, Miss Barn Owl is back, no osprey cam on WDWF

A great Saturday morning to you...

BW nests are empty...

Dad At Santa Cruz is feeding A69 (is it?)...just quit and is perched above nest now.

West End cam is at least clear enough to make out what's present this morning.

How is everyone today?

Jim

Good Morning Jim--
We all spent so much time yesterday watching the banding that we have to get caught up on our work. I think it is A63.
Have a nice weekend.

Good morning, everybody. Mama Loon and Lulu were briefly on the nest, but now back in the water. Costume Lady, I am so pleased that you may have a bob white. We used to have them all the time when we lived on a farm near the eagle tree. Now we never see or hear them. The bears are moving in, maybe the bobwhites will.

The wood duck cam in Texas shows a nest box full of little fluffies. She had 17 (!) eggs. Very crowded.

Both adults in nest tree at Kent..

Thanks, Candy, for the correction...guess A69 was last year's chick.

I'll be alright, now that I got my coffee...

Another mistake, Costume Lady. You're not "Candy." That's Carolina Beach.

Probably ought to take a couple more slurps of the coffee.

Jim...Costume lady is Wanda...she was with us on our last trip to the tree.

Sandy..I recall seeing a nature film on TV years ago of a Wood Duck. She had a whole regiment of chicks in a hole in a tree about 40 feet up...every fluffy chick had to take the 'high dive' from the hole at an early age in order to follow Mom to the water's edge.

You're sure they'll all die, but I think they kind of float down and bounce on all that fluff. All of them made it.

Oh my goodness! The wood ducks, except one, are gone! I see four eggs and one fluffy. Jim, they must have read your posting, and jumped. I wish I could have seen it.

Good 'almost' Noon everyone
So glad the owl has returned-thought she may have found somewhere else to go. Sandy this isn't the link to the
Wood Duck you are watching. But she sure has a lot of eggs-said they should start hatching as of yesterday. Which cam do you have up that already has the white fluffies?
The loon cam always freezes on me when I go to put it down-anyone else?

sandyshaw said...

The last one just jumped. Five eggs did not hatch. If only we could follow the rest of the story. Wood ducks are incredibly beautiful.

Hi, Jo That is the camera I've been watching. An hour ago it was full mama duck and about 12 babies. Now only the unhatched eggs are there. Amazing.
