Hello!

Enjoying the fact that I have today off, the last of my four day weekend. It's been nice, but need to study Pharm and Mental health for tests this week.

SANDI, sorry about your horrible drive after the long and emotional day. Glad you're home and safe.

We had snow here yesterday, and night before last. Didn't amount to but an inch or a little more and the rain quickly melted it. YAY!

Thanks for the prayers for Kate's Mom. Kate says she is in the dying process, those lingering last days. I pray it's pain free and quick as her Mother has said a few times that she is afraid, but keeps talking about her mother and brother who have already passed.

So grateful we have 2 eaglets!!! Any feelings on the third egg, if it will hatch or not?

I love you all.

Going to try and get a few things done before I go to the Dr.'s this morning. :)

Good Monday morning my eagle peeps.

Goodorming my eagle friends.

Still raining here - what a dreary couple of days.

Janet, re home schooling ... I am a teacher and I would never have considered it for my kids. Being the parent of an adolescent is hard enough without also being their teacher. Could you teach Algebra I & II, & Geometry??? I know I couldn't, even to a very math-minded child, much less to a child who struggles with math and hates it. I am so sorry that you're not happy with Livvy's school. But some parents think they can do a teacher's job simply b/c they went to school themselves. Trust me, it's not that easy! Good luck with your decision.

I awoke at 4:30 and couldn't get back to sleep. I am feeling terribly guilty about this past weekend. Mom hasn't even been gone for 2 weeks and we already have her condo on the market!! I really wasn't expecting the realtor to show up with a contract - I expected her to look at the place and suggest a price and make some recommendations about staging it (what things to get rid of, etc.). My timeline was to get it on the market by Easter. But when I realized Cathy was ready to go, I just went along with her. Now I'm feeling guilty.

OK, time to get ready for my work week. Prayers continue for Larry, for Kay's friend's son Gary, and for Kate's mom.

Have a good day.

Prayers with you Sandi about your guilt. ((hugs))

stronghunter said...

Good morning,

Oh, Sandi, I think guilt is natural in this situation. But there is no logical reason for it. You are doing well.

stronghunter said...

I see some movement at the eagle nest. It looks like feeding. I believe there is an egg still there. Pretty dark still.

stronghunter said...

I just watched the two little ones get their breakfast. It was dark and fuzzy at first, then the night light went off and things slowly became more clear. Still two eaglets and an egg. Parent exchange took place.

Janet - my neighbor home schools their 4 children, although the dad has taught in the public school system for 23 years. It is very time consuming to do the educating & provide the extra curricular peer projects as well. She says the only way to keep the child well rounded is by beloning to a home schooling group.

Do you have the K12 online home school program available by you? Might be woorth checking into to see if it can work for you.

Make it a good day everyone.

Seeing input already:
I am going to talk with several people whom I know homeschool as well as local teachers.

HODA AND STRONGHUNTER: no disrespect taken. I did want honest view points. And you both make excellent points….I really have to think this thru. And do my “homework”.
And I’m providing my view points to help me to think this thru….
Tom is home between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. every day, so she would be alone about 90 min total at any given time.
As for motivation, darned if I know. I just know that when I worked with her the few times when she did have assignments, she “got “ it. I used several different things to help to clarify things. I know teachers cannot do this as they have several students to tend to.
Socialization WAS a big concern for me….and I used to think homeschooling was lacking in that, but from what little I know, and I don’t know a lot, it is possible. Granted, it takes more to do it, getting together with people, but it is possible. And, ice skating is social as well.
In Tennessee it is a commitment of 180 days of 4 hours a day. So, I THINK it would be doable…
I am just so on the fence. The main thing I want is her to finish school and I just don’t know if that will happen … she is in 7th grade, doesn’t know how to do long division….etc….I am just so FRUSTRATED! And you are right, NO homework can be okay, when a student does fine in school. She is not doing fine. I don’t know how else to help her….
SANDI: those are also my thoughts. I’ve tried leaving this to the professionals….and with Chelsea and Michael, it was great. Va Beach schools rocked. Michael didn’t like school here and we struggled to keep him in it and get him to graduate. He was in high school when we movedhere. I don’t know that I can do better or even as well as teachers, butsomething has to give here. I simply cannot allow this child to fall thru the cracks. And I don’t know and don’t have way of knowing if it would have been different in VA BCH….
As for teaching math, there are actual classes you can take them to for that….and between myself , that, and Chelsea, who is a math whiz with a four year degree, we can muddle thru. Heck if I can get her to be able to balance a check book someday, and at least pass higher classes, I don’t know…just thinking out loud here, trying to put this all together.

CAROLANNE: yes there are online and groups that work with homeschoolers.
Right now, this is the only option that I can think of I haven’t tried. And I don’t know if I am going to…
Today I am marching into the school to talk with the guidance counselor….see about getting some teachers to correspond with me, to find out how she is doing? The school’s motto: whatever it takes, we graduate 100% to go on to a 4 year college…. Seems lacking. Again, I have no delusions that Olivia will not be a college student, but she could certainly go toa vo-tech, like I did for massage therapy, or Michael for truck driving . She will need a vocation, training.
I am also going to talk with the Sylvan lady….and some of my teacher pals and education people here in Nashville as well as home school moms/dads…
I don’t know! I don’t know! I don’t know! I will certainly take my time on this one. I have to admit, I am leaning towards trying it, but am going to do my own homework.
Sorry for the uber-ly long post. You are my sounding board on this one. Keep the thoughts coming please , both for and against.
SANDI: Your guilt, while understandable, is misplaced. You are fortunate enough to have things falling into place. Its okay. You’ve done the right thing as far as I am concerned. But then JUDYE and I had a horrific experience…I guess we all deal with guilt to some level when distributing our parents’ stuff after their transisiton.
Well spring break is over. Back to school for Miss Olivia. Tom is off to work already, school busses must roll. I am off today with a myriad of things I want to do, so I had best get started. Hugs, love, healing and light to all! Have a super day!

paula eagleholic said...

Lori, in answer to your question, it is day 35 for egg #3. We should see a hatch today or tomorrow, but I don't think anyone has seen a pip yet.

paula eagleholic said...

Janet, have you looked at a tutor for Olivia? Not Sylvan, but a personal tutor? Does the school have any tutoring services available? You might have mentioned this before, but I don't remember.

Ajay homeschooled Cohen for his first year...then sent him to public school. Actually it wasn't homeschooling, but cyber school. Still involved more than she expected...

paula eagleholic said...

I cannot seem to keep the live cam going this morning...

paula eagleholic said...

Oh, it resolved itself...

stronghunter said...

Good, Paula.

I can't remember if Janet has had a tutor for Olivia or not. I think that's a good suggestion.

WVJerry said...

Good morning all. Hope all is well with everyone. I am unable to watch the Cam more than a few seconds at a time. Really miss watching it. I have been able to keep up on Facebook some when time allows. Even though I have been working less days I seem to be feeling more tired...maybe the time change and a little different schedule. Also - so many things weren't done when working so much. I'll try and check in more often here. Seems like much goes on here. Take care all.

CarolAnne said...

Tutor might make a difference. Takes the personal mom - daughter dynamics out of it. Have 12year old nephew w/aspergers. Goes to public school but often finds himself too distracted by things around him. Has after school home tutor, the daily 2 hours of one on one & the familiar surroundings do more for his learning than all day in school. Took a few tries to find the right one, but has made a big difference.

Judie said...

Good morning.

Quiet nest but sunshine is so welcome.

Janet, my next door neighbor is special ed and works at a school for children who need special attention and learning techniques. Look around to see if such a school is near you. I agree with CarolAnne, the mother-daughter dynamics would be problematic.

Good morning all my lovely eagle budlets. I am so tickled with 2 eaglets. Wonder if the third will hatch? :)

Tytun and Lyttle Byt are at the vet having surgery. Lyttle Byt's cherry eye is getting fixed and what is left of Tytun's eye is being removed and the lids sewn up. The house is so freaking quiet without them here.

Please keep Sissy, Tom and Ellie Mae in your prayers. They will be at Virginia Tech at 11 to get the ball rolling on surgery to remove her cancer.

stronghunter said...

Will keep them in my prayers, Sharon.

paula eagleholic said...

Think Shep was up for a fly/walk about. Chicks covered back up. Not sure if there was a feeding prior to Shep leaving the nest. Did some some pecking by oldest chick. Egg still there.

Kay said...

Good Morning Eagle Buds !!!

Wow, that Isla is one impressive bird ! Wahoo !

JANET, have found your dilemma and all advice/advising by our educators of great interest. I've known several home schoolers, a couple wildly successful and a couple, not so much. The successful ones had/have one thing in common. That was/is the mom's only job other than homemaking. Life revolves around the schooling with no outside job and little else of interest. So, my question is, do you see yourself in that role ? The more successful ones began home schooling very early on and the least successful took it on when the kids were in middle or high school. I guess the successful ones grew with and educated themselves as time went on. Seems really hard to dive into upper level education all of a sudden. You never have to want for an opinion here and I know we all offer them with love and in the hopes that you can weigh the pros n' cons and come to the right decision for you and your precious Olivia !

Didn't see any reactions to TGW of last night. They are going to be able to drag dear Will and his death clear through this season !

SHAR, remembering your the Riffe's and your petsters in prayer !

SANDI, just keep your inner Shark going and you'll not go wrong. Hesitation in the matters at hand would serve no purpose but to prolong the painful. You are loved and supported here !

Mema Jo said...

Good Monday morning to all ♥

Hurray for Isla! Home again ♥

So Many good points brought out for you to consider, Janet. My granddaughter has 5 young children (all in a row). She is doing homeschooling for all of them. This has been since Grade 1. They are all thriving with this type of teaching and have all been certified at the end of each year by the professional education person. In fact she may have them qualified with their skills more then at the end of the year. All the children are avid readers and that sure helps. It is a full time job... but so far things are going well.

Kay said...

Oh, I agree, PAULA. I enjoyed the program as much as ever ! I'm just sayin' I can see Will's imprint lasting the writers a very long time. So many flashbacks are possible, etc..

Lolly said...

Good morning! So much to do and so little time! Need to get ready to leave again on Thursday but leaving this afternoon at 1:30 to pick up Jacob at school and then get him to his basketball game.

Janet, will not add to the comments about home schooling as there as been some sound advice already given. I will say find a tutor and give it a try first. I do have a strong opinion but keeping it to myself.

So, no hatch yet of the third egg? It should happen as I am going to be gone!

Sandi, please, no guilt. You are doing what you have to do and it is going great. You and Lisa are working together quite well it seems. Life goes on, treasure your memories and no guilt!!! ((hugs))

Gotta get busy, but had to check in!

Hoda said...

Good morning all.

Yay ISLA

SANDI your mother is not at the condo!
Sorry to say your guilt is wasted energy.
Serves nothing except holding on to MRS MOORE.
The relationship is on a different plane now. Not about condo, car or clothes. She does not need any of this stuff.

Continuing on to being frank this morning!

JANET red flag went up with your explanation that TOM is home from 9:00-1:00!!!
Shifting has already happened! Is TOM now assigned the homeschooling? Is he capable if doing it? Is he interested in doing it?
Supervisor is not just being home but engaged in education process. In effect you just told me that Olivia will be unsupervised for four hours daily!!!
Socializing is not just ice skating!!!
Relating to others her age.
Home schooling associations take up a great deal of time, planning activities. Going to and from, spending time with the activity.
Sorry you are headed towards Olivia falling through a crevasse not just a crack!!!

Again blunt yes!!! With two working parents at a junior high age you are setting her up for failure.

Having a really good day. Found someone who will finish the Bathroom Remodeling that Gene had not had a chance to do. He had purchased all the fixtures, etc. It is someone I know, so I will feel comfortable with him in my house!
Didn't cry yesterday in church when "Wind Beneath My Wings" was sung...(getting better). Paul, who was the singer, gave me an Angel Bear, who sings that song when you squeeze it's hand/paw.
I DID MANAGE TO POST IT'S PICTURE ON WANDA'S WISHES...I love it!

Kay said...

Wow, what a landing--a "get outta here" signal in no uncertain terms !

WANDA, that song is one of the best ! I can't get the Angel Bear pic to show up---maybe just my system---we'll see what others say. So glad you have a trusted re-modeler lined up for the bathroom fix !

I am adding a day to my original thoughts on hatching....was looking at last years calendar!!

My guess for hatching days is Thurs, 3/28 (38 days for egg 1), Friday/Saturday 3/29 (36-37 days Egg 2) and Tuesday 4/1 (36 days egg 3)

We are well within our range for egg #1

Thursday, March 27, 2014 9:10:00 AM

Still within range projected by PAULA ! I don't think we need to worry about egg 3 just yet !

good afternoon to all.

I get the very strong point that nooone here is approving of home schooling. And you all raise excellent points.

I am still going to do some research...I do have a meeting with the 7th grade team tomorrow morning @ 8 a.m.

I haven't made up my mind yet. Must do more research and thinking. Honest deep down thinking.

Do I think I can handle it?
Sometimes you do what you have to do, no matter what. As a former Navy wife, I can attest to that. No matter how hard or how painful. But the thing is here, it isn't just me and I get that. What ever choice we make fully impacts another human, Olivia. But it is her well being in mind.

I am thinking, trust me, along those lines. As with all parents I want to make the very best decision possible for all of my children, but especially this one at the moment as she is still only 12.

Just keep me in your thoughts, your light and love and I thank you for input!

Once upon a time, there was a young girl we will only identify as CA. CA was always secretive, even as a child. She used to squirrel things away for a later time. Now, as a grown woman, she is displaying this same trait. A secret to be revealed in two weeks. Oh how she loves teasing others.

Perhaps her current secret is that she is planning to surprise her friends by visiting the nest. Perhaps she plans to reveal reuniting with a long lost love she used to affectionately call Shep. Perhaps she has written a book and is planning a book tour. Perhaps she has no secret but has been influenced by Jufie and Shirkey. Perhaps, in spite of her adult years, she plans to adopt triplets named Prez, Capt., and Lib.
