Wow, your skies must be very clear, MARGY. I just stepped out back and can see nothing due to low cloud cover. Columbus has never been a great place for gazing at the stars and other things afloat out there. I love your full throttle attitude about the wondrous world we live in !
KAY, get as big a pot as you can find. An Dwarf Alberta Spruce would work. Just pull the pot next to the house in the winter and that will give it lots of protection easily.
There are only two chicks in the nest, I fear one has fallen out of the nest, they have been moving around since early hatch time... very early this morning I was watching...the mother seemed to be looking all around, seemed to be very aware a chick was missing I am not sure when this could have happened
parent just took the food and flew out big difference in the size of the two chicks there
LORI, the Dwarf Alberta Spruce sounds perfect. I have just the spot out there for wintering it. Protected on two sides by the building, under a wide overhang and getting full morning and early afternoon sun. On the days when we have sun, that is. Oakland Park Nurseries, here I come ! Thank you, LORI !
this morning when watching the Goshawk (I woke up around 1:00) there was a lot of cheeping but it did not seem to be coming from the two in the nest and I wonder if the chick was somewhere on a branch or the ground parent still seems to be looking for it :(
It is now 43 days after the first egg was laid and 40 days after the second. We remain hopeful here at Loch of the Lowes that we may have chicks at some point. Our female often surprises us. Reaching an estimated 26 years of age alone is astonishing – meaning she has clocked up around 120,000 miles making the annual migration to West Africa. Last year, following a bout of illness, it seemed that our female’s chances of making the migration were low as her condition was compromised due to the mystery illness which left her unable to eat for several days. On the 28th March staff and followers on the webcam were all thrilled to see the return of this very special bird, who had surprised us all with her determination to make the migration
I believe there were three Goshawk chicks yesterday morning, about 7. I don't think there would have been a deliberate push out, but they are at that awkward stage when there is a lot of uncontrolled bumping going on.
Megan If you are up and about: First of all: GOOD MORNING!
I got my 5th cutting of lettuce leaves yesterday, the best cutting yet! Waiting on my ileanthus (sp) to sprout blossoms also waiting on the Salvia Stella D'Oro is budded and ready to go!
Hope all the rain did not present a big problem with your farm... bet you have some seriously muddy work boots !
Yes, Kay...that is the way I would prefer to think of it that way also, at Goshawk that nest could use some crib rails I was so amazed at how early the chicks were moving around after hatch
I see that CRUNCH BOB snuck in right after midnight...mentioned Rick K and the Allnighters being at the Boonsboro Carnival Friday..Hope the weather stays good for that Crunch, and HELLO to You and Doris ! ♥
The triplets at WCV look good this morning. All interested in something in the next cage over, to the right. Haven't heard if they placed another adult there so the eaglets could do some patterning.
It really rained hard at one point overnight, I mean a downpour, with thunder and lightning but I can't tell you what time that was Hope Hedgie got her bath !
Kay and Lori I think I would like to have an evergreen here too I stopped by at Wanda and Gene's last week and I saw the biggest flower pots I have ever seen, big enough to take a bath in! One of those would work !!
Loretta very touching story about your dear friend Ruby, I am sorry about your loss Nice that you could share your memories with the family, and that you had some nice telephone time with Sherry (( hugs ♥ ))
LOL, I don't have enough room for a pot big enough to take a bath in. Will have to select one that, when loaded with soil and evergreen, will still be easy for me to move. I do have a dolly to assist me, come to think of it. Of course, Seth and Hugh would be happy to help me, but I try to be independent.
KAY - sit the pot on a round roller cart - they're made to move pots easily!
MARGY - I'm going to have to find out where WANDA GOT THOSE BIG POTS!
We miss you MEGAN!
NEST WEATHER:
TODAY: A slight chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
TONIGHT: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 2am, then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
understand that Kay... I have my "little old single lady" accommodations to take into consideration here I do have a very nice upstairs and over one neighbor man friend, I know he would help So glad you talked about this idea Oh! My heart leaves on the Wildflower link, my friend in NY suggested he thinks they are Redbud leaves, and I think he is right! I have a "stick" redbud in a pot here, and it has some teeny tiny heart leaves on it ♥ Lynne2: I hope you pop on here soon, you might be the Redbud Expert...what do you think?? I have since posted some Sweet Yellow Clovers (and one pine) on that link there is something akimbo about that link though, I might have to start another one for 2011
Hmmm, a roller cart. Not sure how easy it would roll on kind of "boards" used for the flooring, but will check it all out at the nursery. I'm now all revved up and ready to head there today !
sure hope no one goes AAARGH when they see how I have jacked up the morning posts! Carryover from last night :( how many cups of coffee do you think I have had already ?? ☺
I interviewed this woman Doctor last year about her book "Inside of a Dog." Her name was Alexandra Horowitz. Walking a dog hasn't been the same since I talked with her. She talked about how a dog's world is his sense of smell. By sniffing a dog can tell who has been there, how long ago, for how long, male or female, etc...it's how dogs make their world make sense. No more do I take the dogs out and yank them away from a bush or where ever they're sniffing.
LORI, thanks for sharing ! Very interesting ! Malcolm will be pleasantly surprised the next time he takes Grandmother for a walk !!! I'm going to share this with his custodial family. I sure feel better with that string off my finger !
I love the company, but am going to make my Escape now---check e-mail, read newspapers... BBL
Where are my manners ? I came back because I forgot to wish you and all our eagle buds a very good day ! Hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend !!! I♥U !!!
OK, time for me to get ready to get out of here & head home before the traffic gets heavy at 10AM.
Wishing all my eagle buds a wonderful and safe day and weekend.
And wishing extra cookies for all of my four legged friends Emma, Leisl, Frisbee, Javalin, Hurdles (sorry Dana), Luna, Malcolm, Nugz and all the rest. WOOF!

Going to get my day started. Wishing all a nice morning.
Hmm, The Lower Gate sounds like a good name for a novel. I will keep it in mind in case I decide to write one.
Only four students present in my Block 3 class. One came late, one left early. The resident thug told me that I am not supposed to count attendance today. Maybe because he is the one who came late.

Good morning! Thanks Paula for putting a bug in Steve's ear! LOL Would like the cam back up!
Also, thought it interesting about the "no brood patch" on the deceased eagle that was found. I thought we were told it was beyond telling if it had one or not. I think that gives us more hope that it was not our Lib.
I will get with checking on the Texas laws protecting hawks. I have heard the hawks in that tree. Have seen the hawks fly into the nest. Saw the mom/dad fly in and out with a snake in it's mouth, but have not seen young in the nest. So, do not know what to do. Unless, we see young, I do not think there is much that can be done. Tried my darnedest to see yesterday. We had our binoculars and were in his back yard. We tried all angles. Will do it again soon.
It is a beautiful tree, but a cottonwood. Cotton is flying off it now! That is why they are taking it down. Personally, I think they are crazy...a tree is a tree and it is a big pretty one with a history of hawk nests! Makes me sad that our hawk nest tree died. Wish they would build in another, maybe some day.
Well next year Earth Day would be April 21... By then we will know who is in the nest and a little early for an egg but hopefully we would see the nesting couple.
Disappointing to say the least. Our minds and hearts were so ready to greet all our Eagle Buds... There is always a reason - but it may take time for us to know..
Love you all! I'll put the same message on an Momster email.
We have some bad news to share.......info received from Steve stating that Open House will NOT occur this fall. NCTC is planning to incorporate their open house with Earth Day next April. This is very disappointing.....especially for those who were planning to travel from afar. We are still mulling our options......any suggestions are welcome. :( :(
What? no NCTC fall open house? but it's the 14th annual... say it ain't so... There's already so many Earth day events on the Saturday after Earth day. Checking in to say I'm still alive:) Have a great day everybody!
Lori, I try to tell people that all the time. So not fair to a dog to just let it out in the same old yard day after day and never take it anywhere. They cannot read, blog, watch TV, call someone on the phone, do crafts....they MUST be allowed to explore new places often. Or at least a walk around outside of the usual yard to exlore. They WILL sniff and it means the world to them. HOWEVER....having said that, there is a time and a place for having LEASH MANNERS DAISY. oops. LOL!!
WHAT? No OPEN HOUSE? They can't do that to us...don't they know how long we plan on this event and all that we do to prepare for it? I see no reason why we can't go on and have our visit, if NCTC will allow it. We can walk the grounds and tour the buildings, etc. Then have our party at the Clarion, as planned. If the cafeteria and the gift shop will be open, that would be great! MTBR
Yes, Lynne, definitely Redbud leaves. A good pot to plant a dwarf evergreen in, would be a half whiskey barrel with a liner in it. Dwarf Mugo pine is a nice evergreen speciman for a planter.
Sheetz - Took Alexis into Sheetz after a school bus pick up this week. She fixed her drinks and I paid with a 20 $ bill. I didn't look at change since everyone was talking to Alexis until that eve when I pulled out of my jean's pocket $21.... Now how did I come home from Sheetz with more then I went in with??? Good place to get your money's worth and then some. I of course called them about register being short $5.00 to call me...... NO CALL I just don't understand the nonchalant way some people do business!
We really can wait until April2012 to get together - However us locals would love to have a gathering with anyone wanting to come up this summer or fall - that way we could all get through the winter knowing Spring was when we would have a big to do!

I'll keep checking... !
On my avatar: Grandson James at the cemetery at my maternal grandfather's gravesite, from last year ♥
mockingbird outside is riled up!
He does the BEST imitation of a killdeer !
KAY, get as big a pot as you can find. An Dwarf Alberta Spruce would work. Just pull the pot next to the house in the winter and that will give it lots of protection easily.
Spank me! Forgot my manners!
GOOD MORNING MARGY - SO HAPPY YOU'RE HERE EARLY WITH AN ISS UPDATE TO BOOT!

Good morning!
Happy to hear all is well at the Osprey nests. I always seem to check em' out at very inactive times.
How sad to hear one of those adorable fluggy white goshawks is missing ! Will check on them later.
from the size of that big chick I also know that it could have nudged a chick out of the way :(
(I hope not on purpose)
I think the second chick is the youngest of the three
it's behind the chick and up at the edge of the nest
oh man, this is tough
DANA, good morning ! Are you all set for this big weekend ? Sure hope the weather is going to be good throughout !

yes, beautiful avatar of yours...

RED FRIDAY EVERYONE
GOD BLESS OUR MILITARY, WITH GREAT APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE
Love you Margy! Be safe and enjoy your day.
KAY - about that string on your finger. I asked you to remind me about dog sniffing which someone brought up last night.
MARGY, I second LORI's emotion !!!!
So, LORI, how about that dog sniffing ???? Sounds kind of icky put that way, doesn't it ? ☺
LYNN told us that dogs can recognize 300,000,000 different scents. About 200,000,000 of those are the posterior ends of other dogs, I think. ;o)
I interviewed this woman Doctor last year about her book "Inside of a Dog." Her name was Alexandra Horowitz. Walking a dog hasn't been the same since I talked with her. Update from the NCTC cam page
May 25, 2011
Things have quieted down at the nest with occasional visits by both the resident female and what appears to be our new resident male. We'll have to wait until next season to hopefully get another clutch.
There has been no sign of the old resident male, and unfortunately the remains of an adult bald eagle were found on the NCTC property recently. The condition of the bird was very poor, so it is unlikely that we will ever know if the bird was our original resident male. Because of the proximity and degree of decomposition there is a possibility that it was "our" bird, however it did not have a brood patch (a patch of skin on the belly where adult birds with eggs or young offspring have removed feathers in order to better incubate their young). While we would anticipated that the resident male that has been nesting at NCTC in recent years would have had a brood patch, we will never know for certain whether this deceased eagle was in fact the resident male.
LOOK quick, eaglet at BWE :)
Chick in view at BWO...you have to keep watching...
Good morning!
So much to catch up on.
Lynn, hope you get to the Lenox sale. Will Jo be there? She should go for a good chunk of change.
Hi Crunch Bob. How you been?
Paula, so sorry about the washing machine mess. Um, if necessary, I know a place where...
Margy, you do have more friends than you realize. We're not all on FB.
Lolly, sorry about the possible disruption of the hawk nest. Do try to find who protects them.
Kay, I have been reviewing my diagnostic manual. I definitely think multiple personalities -- mutually cognizant. They know each other and have conspired to confuse us by each one pretending to the be other. Congratulations to Seth on his summer job.
Margy, I am so jealous! You went to Sheetz?
Lowreeda, I'm sorry about Ruby but it is comforting for you and her family to have such fond memories. How are you feeling now?
Congratulations to BWO.
Shirley, I hope you enjoy "The Lower Gate" as it sounds like a really good novel.
Maybe Wanda will come in and let us know how GG is today.
Going to get my day started. Wishing all a nice morning.
BBL
Kay, I agree w/ Lori, a dwarf Alberta spruce would be great, slow growing...and just get one of those roller stands for under it.
Glad ya'll enjoyed the ISS....I was snoozin' ☺
2 Eaglets at CRC...nice to still be able to see them...Noah took off last year, never to be seen again!
Eaglet taking a rest at BWE
Hello, Eagle lovers!
Wow, what a night. Another violent storm from 1am-2am....slept in a little late today after all of that disturbance!
Margy, glad you got ot see the flyover.
Interesting research you did, Lori. Hope Lolly checks it all out.
See that Crunch Bob visited last night for a quick note---hey, Bob---how are you and Doris??
Nice avatar, Margy!
Sure starting to wonder about Loch of Lowes.....hope the eggs aren't dud....
I got BWO okay---but haven't seen a wee one.
FYI, a put another bug in Steve's ear about the cam....he's not sure if it will be fixed today or not.
Hmm, The Lower Gate sounds like a good name for a novel. I will keep it in mind in case I decide to write one.
Only four students present in my Block 3 class. One came late, one left early. The resident thug told me that I am not supposed to count attendance today. Maybe because he is the one who came late.

Good Morning all you birders!
Not so good news for you - so listen up..
Dana has been in contact with NCTC, Steve in hopes of having a
special tribute to Liberty during Open House. A framed picture (the
one on our blog page that was taken
by Deb) with a plaque which would be hung in one of the buildings.
Steve is the one that gave us the date for the Open House knowing
that our members were anxious to
make plans . Here is the news
concerning Open House that Dana
has received......
Hi,
There was a meeting today and the Open House has been moved to next spring at Earth Day. Let's regroup on this a little later. Would you let Jo know? I told her the other day it was the 22 of October, but now that's not the case... Steve
Well next year Earth Day would be April 21... By then we will know
who is in the nest and a little
early for an egg but hopefully we
would see the nesting couple.
Good morning eagle momsters and dadsters.
Disappointing to say the least.
Our minds and hearts were so ready
to greet all our Eagle Buds... There is always a reason - but it
may take time for us to know..
Love you all! I'll put the same message on an Momster email.
Hey there T-Bird! So glad to see you here. ♥
Thanks Mema Jo. That means a lot. I had been having difficulty with the blog and just didn't pursue the solution.
I am very disappointed but thinking about it we will know if Liberty by April is going to be taking back the nest. If not then the picture we have put up at NCTC can be unveiled. Plus where in Oct. it is a hit or miss to see the eagles. You will be seeing them in April around 21st that date is a GUESS. So there is some good that turns out for it being in the Spring for Earth Day. I have to look at the "good in it".

Checking in to say I'm still alive:)
Have a great day everybody!
Hi all, I'm at work. Just read the bad news. BOOOOOO HISSSSSSS
terrible about the Hawk nest too Lolly.
HOWEVER....having said that, there is a time and a place for having LEASH MANNERS DAISY. oops. LOL!!
Margy, I do believe they ARE Redbud leaves!! They look just like the ones on our little trees!
Gotta get back to work....BBL!
MTBR
GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE:)
Hawks are a federally protected species. it is illegal to kill or harm them in any way.
I am disappointed that there is no open house this fall. Yes, I think we should plan something.
Yes, Lynne, definitely Redbud leaves.
A good pot to plant a dwarf evergreen in, would be a half whiskey barrel with a liner in it.
Dwarf Mugo pine is a nice evergreen speciman for a planter.
Oops---didn't realize that you were going to post, Jo and Dana. I sent same info via email both private and on Momster mail.
Jo---April will NOT be too early for eggs----it will be post-hatch time!! Too early for FLEDGE!!!!
Interesting message from Steve. If there was no brood patch, in my eyes and heart, then I feel that bird could not be Lib.......TEAM LIBERTY!!!!!!
Thelma----lots of us have had blog issues lately! ARGH! Maddening, isn;t it????
I think Earth Day is the worst day to pick for the Open House, already enough stuff going on.
Steve did tell me the other day that someone new was in charge of it, so...
We don't have to have anything official happening for us to have a gathering!
Loretta sorry about Ruby prayers for you and his family.
Good news from Megan about the Hawks safety. Stand your ground LOLLY:) Hawklets are protected...WHOO HOO!
Well yesterday I got caught on I-81with the hail...checked car today no dents...thank you LORD.
Heading in Mom called..going to go to the commentaries to put Memorial Day flowers on.
The Hail, last night, broke off some of my flowers. One, being my Texas Gold Columbine from Lolly:(
Getting ready to vook dinner for family night. Ditalinis & salad.
BBL Or, is that SUPPER?:)
BWO UPDATE
Nest Update
05/27/11:
Chick Alert!
We definitely have a chick and it's been sitting up and feeding.
We also have a Quicktime video showing it moving around.
The second egg could hatch in the next couple days.
Sheetz - Took Alexis into Sheetz
after a school bus pick up this
week. She fixed her drinks and I
paid with a 20 $ bill. I didn't look at change since everyone was
talking to Alexis until that eve
when I pulled out of my jean's
pocket $21.... Now how did I come
home from Sheetz with more then I went in with??? Good place to get your money's worth and then some. I of course called them about register being short $5.00
to call me...... NO CALL I just don't understand the nonchalant way some people do business!
Really good news for Lisa at BWO.
A successful nest has been overdue.
I am keeping an eye on the Loon
Time for hatching is here...
Good News is: Gas prices are falling just in time for Memorial Day weekend. Isn't that just
wonderful!
