GOOD MORNING EVERYONE... I have a question. Do any of you have a deck or steps made of TREX or something similar? It looks like wood but is not and never needs painting, no splinters, no nails (slides together). We're thinking of replacing the old steps and landing in front of the house with that material and I was wondering if it had any draw-backs?? I'm cleaning off my deck of it's winter debris and planting a few flowers. Just came in for a break and sweat is dripping on my keyboard. It's not so hot, must be some of my meds...happens every Summer:(
Wanda, Trex is great! SIL's bro worked at the plant for a while and loved the product (he is a carpenter). The drawback is that it costs 3x what wood costs....but lack of upkeep costs through the years pays off if you can afford the initial outlay. On the OBX, all of the National Seashore ramps and walkways have been replaced with it!
Glad to hear that the Neurontin is helping GG's pain! Hope it's a permanent relief!
BEagle, haven't seen you in a while...good to have you back!
DANA...Thank You for that research...will discuss the flaking problem, etc. with our carpenter. It will be a while. Got to catch our breath after having the new porch built. It was $1,000 less than what we thought, so that will go toward the steps.
Hay maybe instead of Open House we should all get together and go to the link posted by Lynne2 on the other page of this thread dated Friday May 27 11:47am HONFEST June 11 & 12th lol
Hello BEagle - it is good to hear from you! Lynne had a link to a stink bug trap - maybe this morning
I need to spiff it up here as the Memorial Day picnic is being held at Mema's place! I love family gatherings - I just don't like husking 3 doz ears of corn.
Taking a break - much to do around here and then Mass this evening. Take care and make it a good day. SMILE and see how many smiles are returned..........
Mema Jo, I had that same trouble with my love, corn on the cob, when I got dentures... I'd just take a steak knife and slice it off, and it's almost as good that way.
Strangely, for no known reason, no known change, I can now eat corn straight off the cob again. So give it another try every now and again.
Slept in and then did not allow myself to enter these doors until the days to-do list was all but done. What discipline ☺.
LORI, LOL, that water alarm is the most reliable around !
DANAMO, sorry to hear about the storm damage. Just when you needed things to look perfect. No doubt you're all busy cleaning it up and getting set for the festivities. Good luck !
MARGY, come on over ! I promise a wildlife, nature oriented tour to remember ! That's a standing invitation for you and all Momsters !
LYNN, what a bummer for the SIL ! Happy no one was hurt, however. Aw, poor little Liesl---too bad they can't understand it's for their health. My MI granddog, Sammy, is an old dog, but has always quaked and cowered at the very sight of the Vet's office. Seth's dog, Malcolm, is a different case. He's had a number of visits for shots and treatment as he was ridden with parasites when first home from the shelter. He is also at the Vet's every three weeks for nail trimming and has to be muzzled for the procedure he hates so much. The Vet's office is only a couple of blocks from home and when they walk by he's eager to run right up to the door. You can almost read his mind, "Oh, boy, oh boy, I love this place, it smells sooo good and I love the people here !" Very funny !
WANDA, thanks for the ditilini intro ! Looks like a great pasta and the recipe sounds yummy !
Well!!! It was wonderful to be out on the water. It was calm when we started and the wind picked up so there were some waves...Paddling in the wind was much harder and it felt to me like I was using more of my core muscles than not...I enjoyed it and the staying well co-ordinated was important. There were 15 women out on the boat and we did have a good work out...now it is to decide to join the Saturday group only or to do Saturday morning, Tuesday and Thursday evening...I will wait and see how I feel this after noon when I go to my yoga practice...will I be sore??? It is a good experience to work as a team and to co-ordinate and very frustrating when this does not happen...I do things mostly by myeslf so this is a big learning for me... Saw an eagles nest but was not able to keep my eye on it long enough to find out if there was an eagle about. The woman who owns the property and the dock where the Dragon Boat is confirmed it was an eagle's nest.
We're home. All went well. Liesl is to go off puppy food and onto adult food....puppy food has too much fat....so she should lose weight with the adult food!
My Cinnamon also had to be muzzled for toenail trim. I used to be able to do it with Carolyn or Bill holding her and basically hypnotizing her by rubbing her throat. Eventually she wouldn;t let me do it at all---she got very nasty. So to vet we went every three weeks for muzzle and clip!
Liesl is not letting me do it alone, either! But we did perfectly well yesterday with Carolyn holding her.
Thanks for the recipe, Wanda! Will definitely fix that one of these days!
There were two large dogs at that residence, Dana, that AC had to take. The man was flown to Inova Fairfax, treated and released, so hope that he has retrieved the dogs.
Guess what I was doing 40 years ago this very moment???? I was standing at the altar, getting hitched. The date that year was the 29th. And 13 yrs. ago today at 4pm, I was the mother of the bride---Christie and Shannon got married, but the date that year was the 30th.
Lynne----re: pics----on my desktop computer, I put many albums over onto discs and then erased them from computer. But now, if I pop the disk in to look at them, the puter globs onto them and puts them back in. Weird. Only thing I can figure is that deleting and trashing doesn't REALLY get rid of them, and stoooopid puter thinks it HAS to restore them. Duh!
Dana, you asked what was planted in our tub gardens... Peppers (red, green, yellow, & hot) Tomatoes, big beef, juliettes (small) Squash (yellow and zucchini, plus an Italian variety) Cucumbers. Check out the tubs from last week on blog: Just For Fun...below photos of Jayden planting HIS garden:)
Hoda, glad you enjoyed your outing---or was that WORK OUT??!!! I am sure that you will be sore, but hopefully it will be a short-lived soreness! And to see an eagles' nest had tobe the icing on the cake!
Here's a good one for you.....Blue Bunny Ice Cream has a Red Velvet variety! Can you imagine how yummy that must be??? Gotta try to find some. I might have a new fav!
Good afternoon to everyone in Eagleland! Have a wonderful holiday weekend! Guess we haven't had enough rain! Some plants in my big pots are wilting! Thev one which came up looking like a tall weed is fleabane. I'll have to take it's pic---over 2' tall, lance shaped leaves and tiny daisy-like flowers!Maybe a bird dropped some seeds! Gotta get busier today--have to wrap a 50th anniv. present for our buds in Paw Paw. Will be there on Sunday!
LYNN, wow Liesl on adult food already, she's thriving ! You have some lovely memories associated with this day. Even when a marriage has played itself out we can still recall the good times !
HODA, perhaps your ongoing Yoga and the chiropractor treatments have conditioned you well for the oaring duties. You certainly will feel it, but may not be as sore as those without such exercise and care. How special it was to see an Eagle nest, hopefully next time out you'll see a regal bird, too !
Just did a grand tour of all the nests I keep tabs on. Everything fine with eagles, eaglets--kind of sad to note the goshawks are definitely down from 3 chicks to 2. It seems the 3rd went overboard yesterday morning. MARGY, did you see any follow up on that ?
Pretty exciting to go to NBG EagleTrak and find that Azelea (2009) and Cameilia (sp ?) (2010) have both been cavorting around the Red Wing Golf Course in Virgina Beach for a few days ! They spent one night very close together, maybe even in the same tree !
Got in on a beautiful meal dished up by Hornsby Dad--so even handed in feeding the 2 chicks and having plenty leftover to feed himself. Afterward he tended to nestorations and clean up--what a great partner Mom Hornsby has in him.
LORETTA, 50 years is an accomplishment these days ! Congrats to your friends in PawPaw !
PAULA, it's no fair that bro got to see the osprey with fish in talons and you didn't ! I'm not sure I'd ever get anything but bird watching done in such a wildlife haven !
LYNN, another yummy sounding ice cream ! You make me drool with memories of my favorite "food" !
WANDA, great pics of the tub garden and always love to see Jayden in action !
Lynne 2 you have got your work cut out for you mowing the lawn with the bugs around...good humour in the poem... I did not see the eagle I spotted an eagles's nest and it was confirmed by the woman who owns the property where the Dragon Boat is...I will keep an eye out for the eagles next time I go out.
Paula, Glad your Bro saw an osprey with the fish...What a wonderful place you have purchased...imagine the many opportunities you will have to see more and more as you spend longer periods of time there.
Liesl is on adult dog food??? What already??? I bet she forgives Mom for the leach and the trip to the vets.
I am off to yoga and will be back in three hours or so.
Never got back here last night, because we drove down to South Laguna to have dinner with our longtime friend, Charlie. We had a wonderful time, but by the time we got home, we were TIRED! This morning,we met my Sis-in-law for an early breakfast, so I am about ready for a panda nap!
Got a text message from daughter Jen this morning. She had just dropped off a baby sparrow at a nearby rehab. It got blown out of a nest near her neighbor's driveway! She was up feeding it all night, and it seemed to be doing well. :o]
Going to go take a panda nap. Will check back in later. HAGD!
I just arrived here after a lengthy visit to a land I had not been to before. One walks through a lower gate and finds oneself in a world where fiendish sadists reschedule an Open House until a far, far away time in the distant month of April.
Physically busy day yesterday and conked out after dinner. I hope no one stumbled in the dark.
Have gotten through yesterday's posts and need to check today's activities.
Hi T-Bird. Nice to have you with us.
Wanda, glad GG's meds are helping some and (Wanda, Friday at 2:29 comment)I had no idea it would be so expensive to replace squirrels. Thanks for the heads-up.
Would really like to know what Jo is doing at the Sheetz store to get them to pay her. They insist I give them money. Oh, I know. She's the one who told me to go to the Sheetz store. Jo's getting a promotional fee!
Congratulations to the little PA falcon.
Diann, we have lots of English Sparrows if you are referring to what are sometimes called House Sparrows brought over from England. Speaking of bird feeders, we have one that hangs from a tree branch and twirls in the wind. Birds perch, eat, and twirl. Can't imagine why they don't throw up.
Hoda, congratulatinos on the good dental checkup and on the sweet treat.
Kay, so nice you were able to visit OS wetlands and specially nice as your Julie was part of the process. Haven't seen an Oriole in a zazillion years.
Lynne2 - had to laugh about the SB and cake. Did Steve skinnybutt eat the cake?
Jo, love the tomato story. We had some fierce weather last night but I did not see any twirling tomatoes.

It's not so hot, must be some of my meds...happens every Summer:(
Hi BEagle! Good to see you. The cam cables got eaten by ants.....hard to tell when they will get it back in operation. :(
Surely someone is familiar with the TREX deck.
Don't get over heated CLady!
I am about ready to plant my 'maters and nasturtiums, thyme, chive and marjoram.
Nasturtiums are so beautiful, I couldn't resist when I saw the starters.
Hi Hedgie!
Carpenter ants?
Gosh, nothing has gone right since that new cam went in.
My medicine has an effect on me when go outdoors to work in the yard too.
Blahhh!
Really really nice day here!
Today's interesting sightings...osprey egret big rat snake!
Already located where the sewer pipe runs under the house...and that means I can go order my cabinets tomorrow!
Doing some painting and other things today....going to the marina for dinner
Oh and the bugs arebout in full force...new bug this weekend is the dragonfly!

Puppy rubs for Liesl getting her last puppy shot.

Leaving for vet visit in a few minutes. Liesl not happy that I put her collar back on...oh, well!!
Wanda If I would have known about that stuff. I would have used it for the deck and ramp. No upkeep !!! Hope there are no drawbacks.
Wanda I am looking for reviews on Trex. One place it say's that if you go to buy it. Make sure it is Trex. There is an off brand with the same name. Which does NOT hold up.
Here it tells about make sure it is Trex.Uunder that beautiful deck. Love the symbol with two different color of wood.
Same sight read on down mildew problems!!!!! Read the reviews Wanda
After reading NO I would NOT use Trex.
Hi Paula!
How come you're not at the shore?
See? Someone know abut TREX!
Cool.
Aw-w-w. I got the Deco eaglets in front of me. One eaglet is right in the camera. He's too cute!
Hello Dana. I call you the researcher! LOL

We're going to town!
Love your avatar Dana
There's a crowd at the WE nest. LOL
The White Rock eaglets are cuddled up and napping. If not cuddled up they're pecking each other.
The NC rapter cam is frozen with a shot of the eaglet perched on the green bar. Like where Noah flew off last year.
I can't tell what the osprey is doing at BWO. I see they have two chicks!
