Thursday

Update.

There is a new update up on the NCTC Eaglecam site.

Yesterday we were contacted by the National Park Service at Antietam.  They recently found a dead bald eagle near the Burnside Bridge parking lot and wanted to let NCTC know.  We went over and examined the bird, which had been dead for about two weeks , they are estimating.  We took a series of measurements, and those show that this could very well be a male bird.  Final identification is not possible without a necropsy.  The standard procedure for this type of thing is to transfer the bird to the FWS Eagle Repository in Denver.  This will happen very soon.

We will never know if this bird is our missing male, but it could be.  I will post more as we get more info.

Lynne, I've had Pileated Woodpeckers since I've moved here, but this is the first I've seen a fresh nest hole and the Pileated at the hole. And it's perfectly positioned on the tree (pretty high) so I can see it from the kitchen!!! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it.

Morning, all!

There are pics of Nu on the momsters site, look under 2007 new cam installation.

Lynn...Lori needs the wax story! And Mrs Brown's clip!

Awesome DVD!!! Beautiful. Chronicles the first arrival, nest building and first eaglet born.

Baby chick 5 survived the night and I have added him to the large container with the others. They seem to be accepting of him/her and not attacking (which I was afraid of because he was weaker than they are)

paula eagleholic said...

Ha, that's when Helen, Jo and Robyn were there!

BTW, I've been here since 2006!

paula eagleholic said...

Yay for your chick, DanaMo!

Lori, are you familiar with Cornell U's Nestwatch program? It is a citizen project where people report on nests they see! Nothing extravagant, you just report on what you observe.

Now that I've looked up a picture of a towhee, I had one on my birdbath last weekend. Hadn't had time to look it up yet. Cute birdie!

Good morning, such a crisp morning it is, my cat decided she wanted to sit in the window.. BRRR.

I thought I saw 2 dandelions out front yesterday but gone now, most likely the bunnies discovered them. I love how they eat them from the stem up!.

Almost finished with first cup of coffee and soon to get ready, getting nervous :/

Hopefully the office has wi-fi so I can get on my tablet to read as the phone is quite small for a lot of text

Looks like Red and maybe Lynn's kin are in the line of fire for some severe weather today. Prayers that all stay safe. Had the weather channel on this morning....so much devastation yesterday and overnight.

Sorry - Thanks LynnE2.

I was going on a nest search out on the trail and fields here today, but I was asked to come into work today so I will do that instead. Not that I'd rather work on such a beautiful day, especially since tomorrow is supposed to be so gross.

Try to relax Robyn....prayers for success!!!

Ms Bookworm Thanks for the warm re welcome. My official title on here is Chicken blogger . Its just been too too sad. I honestly thought I was headed for a breakdown the day and way and timing of PJ's death. I still have not really shaken that awful moment when Belle came with the fish. Too far and too late. So sad so sad.

Like Bev I too have sworn off any consistent watching of any webcams. I can NOT get closely attached to any other eagle. I am glad the dead eagle did not have a brood patch, but my heart so so needs to see Lib It will be a picture one of you posts if he shows up as to be honest i have not looked at the nest since PJ died. I can not go there.

I own the PBS documentary from Decorah. Yes it is beautifully done. It is free to watch online too though. I just wanted to give to their project. I also own NBG calendar, and chipped in a few extra Buddy bucks. All that helps as its something I can do for Bald Eagles.

OK off to coffee and dog treats. Sure hoping to connect with sunshine2 That too would feel good. I need some very happy eagle times about now and its a long time til they come to the dam and fish for me. :-) sonshine 2 could help us all with that if I can get a contact. I just need to work out logistics for Dex and i before i can get up there with my camera. It won't be National Geographic BUT it will be good if i can work it out. MTBR on that one. Too far to go and just leave Dex in the car for a couple of hours in the summertime. Need info.!!!

Hear a towhee now - too-eat, too-eat!!

Deer cleaned out all the food. Must go refill. BRB.

Good morning.

I think the name of the DNR director in MN was mentioned on Weds.....not sure. If not then, I know it was back during the big push for protection ?last month?.

Leona had no internet yesterday and no power laast evening. She was on FB---I guess using her phone. I was suspecting it was weather related. Sorry I forgot to mention it.

hedgie said...

Sent Lori the wax story and the video.

Lori O. said...

Good Morning Glo!

Lynne - That's a great idea, the favorite bird other than eagles avatar weekend.

How's your no smoking going. I have to quit - soon.

Lori O. said...

Gracias Lynn/Hedgie!

paula eagleholic said...

Lori, how is Kate doing?

Lori O. said...

Paula - thanks for asking about Kate. She's getting better. Her physical therapist is amazed. She's the only one with that back problem he knows of who has been able to suffer through rehab and not have surgery. It's still painful for her and I miss my garden helper. :(

Red said...

Good morning everyone. I have my red on today as always. lol

Here's my funny hospital story. I was having an artery bypass in my leg and to my surprise I had a beautiful female anesthesiologist. I guess she really impressed me because in the recovery rooom I told her that she was the best looking doctor I ever slept with. I don't remember telling her that but all the nurses and my wife was laughing about it.

hedgie said...

Lori, sent you emails!
BTW---Nu works for a tree service. There was a pic of him in the newspaper last month doing some trimming work at Yankauer NAture Preserve for the Audubon Society. Donnie has the pic on his blog...but he hasn't been on recently. Pic was in our newspaper, too.....but with his hat and coat on, you really can't see his face.

I sent an email to the Pres. of the local Audubon group, asking if they perchance knew of any MIA eagles---besides Lib.

hedgie said...

Dana, I thought I sent you the wax story yesterday. I'll resend, but check your spam folder!
Glad that the chicklet is still with you!

Margy and I both are relative newcomers....we joined in spring of2008!
I think Glo and Nilla were originals, too, right, Paula?

NU is waiting on you in the Sycamore tree on my WILD AND WONDERFUL blog, because he is wild and wonderful...see for yourself!

Costume Lady said...

RED! Boy are you lucky your wife was laughing too;)

Lori O. said...

Lynn, Thanks for the emails. That WAX story is a long one so I'll wait until I get home...which hopefully won't be long.

One of my co-workers just told me about the Ducky the dog story. HC! Holy crap! I figure you guys would know about it since the had him at the ARK.

Okay, thinking only happy, positive, joyful thoughts now.

Going to visit NU before leaving. ☺

Okay, the spider is a little scary. It really is hard to see the eagles or anything else for that matter through the white legs and body. Nature is a wonderful thing. Okay, did you guys make provisions for things like this. Like -- how are you going to get the spider away from the camera?

I am usually a very through newspaper reader, Lynn, but haven't had the time or interest in recent months...missed the Nu photo. If you will recall, I had his photo from being in the Sycamore tree, in the calendar that I made up for an Open House
Raffle prize. Still can't see his face very well, but oh, yes...those muscles;)

Costume Lady said...

Good idea, Sharon, to post your very first comment on here!
Don't know if I can find mine or not.

Lori O. said...

Wooooo-who-Nu! Yes, Wanda those are some muscles. Looks a little Tarzan-ish in the tree with that body. I am not a pig. I am not a pig. :)

Morning all from western PA

I've been keeping up with the nest activities and the blog but haven't posted. Real life, ya know.

Went birding last weekend and saw 2 active Eagle nests with a parent evidently sitting. We were looking for Osprey to return to last years nests and only saw Canada Geese sitting on them!! After the second such sighting we saw an Osprey flying towards a power line pole beside the road, where it's mate was busy with sticks. If that nest continues to grow we will have a very close up nest to watch this season.

And we officially got the live feed on Thursday, April 13, 2006. And that is our walk down memory lane for today! :)

Lynn, check to see if Margy has a black purse with a gold chain since you took yours to her favorite department store.

Will try to catch up later.

Have a lovely day, please and thank you.
