Saturday

Rain thread.

Looks like the eagle found across the river will be examined by some FWS folks from Chesapeake Bay Office.  We'll let you know what they come up with.

Good morning, Dana, so happy to "see" you ! Do the Flying Labs have pent up energy from too much down time due to the weather ?

Kay said...

I got waxed !! My first time. I need that !

DanaMo said...

I can't believe there is more rain in our forecast...geez...not for today but several more times this week!

Kay said...

I didn't see the split coming !

Kay said...

We're having rains this week and the upcoming week, too. So far just gentle with no high winds or worse.

DanaMo said...

WOW I didn't see that split coming! LOL!
Perhaps...I'm not sure what got into them this morning, but I hope they get it out soon! LOL

Kay said...

Love seeing the avatar showing your youngest son, Dana ! He looks like he's a lot of fun !

Kay said...

Dana, do you have to refresh after each post in order to see the next ? I do, and wonder if I'm missing an easier way.

DanaMo said...

Yes, but I just go to the bottom and hit "newest" it's the same thing as refresh.

Kay said...

Have had to refresh the cam twice already. Kind of glad there is a breeze to alert me to that need.

DanaMo said...

He's 15 going on 16. Boomer is his dog and that picture was just so funny, I told him Boomer looks like him.

DanaMo said...

I'm disappointed I missed the mrning visit even though it was brief.

I don't remember Kay are you local? Or do you live far from here?

DanaMo said...

I usually don't have to refresh the cam too much, but I did just now...

DanaMo said...

At least the sun is up.

Kay said...

Thanks for the hint, your way seems a tad faster ! Almost driving age, but you've been through that before. Do each of the boys take care of their own dog ?

Kay said...

Something gltichy about the cam feed today. Needed another refresh already.

DanaMo said...

Well...to some extent. LOL! The dogs are kinda shared responsibility but most of it lands on me. They did take them to training and when the weather is warm they will walk them and such. They sleep with the kids too. Frisbee belongs to son #2, Boomer to #3 and Javalin (only female) belongs to my only daughter.

They kids take care of picking up the yard, so that's good.

DanaMo said...

Adam will be my third driver! The insurance is going to kill me.

Kay said...

Sounds like the typical household ! Mom usually takes more care of the pets than the kids do. I get a kick out of hearing kids vow to "do it all" when campaigning to get one !! What a nice family---is your daughter the youngest child ?

Have you noticed that the female on the BWO nest is still there this morning, AND she's looking like she's ready to spend some heavy time there.

Have a great day. I think our winds in So Cal will switch around to the on-shore direction and the clime will return to something like normal.

Kay said...

Jim, you're either up very early or very late ! Haven't had a chance to go to any other nest. Got on here just as Truder landed and keep expecting him or Belle to put in another appearance.

DanaMo said...

Thankfully I am an animal lover. We kinda ended up with 3 by default...LOL!
short version...
We had a "little" dog that we had to put up for adoption after having him and trying to train him for 2 years. He was attacking our older lab and one day almost got my youngest in the face during a fit. He bit me and my oldest and we just kept trying. We we had to get let him go Adam was devastated (it was his dog). We promised a new dog, and told them that labs were the only option. When we went to look at the pups I told them only 1. After we pulled away my husband says, "maybe we should get one for Annemarie too" (to save them from arguing) We called back, we weren't even a mile from the breeder, and hence 2 puppies! YIKES! We had to wait several weeks until they were of age, but we did go back and pick up two!

DanaMo said...

And yes, 3 boys and one girl. She is the youngest. They are 20, 18, almost 16, and almost 13.

Kay said...

Dana, do Hagerstown and Shepherdstown fall under the same weather forecast ?

Kay said...

Nice family ! I had two girls and a boy. Came from a family of two girls and my husband from a family of three boys. We were so happy to get a mix. I think men and women who grow up with sibs of the other sex adjust better to many things we encounter on this journey !

DanaMo said...

Yes, we are pretty close to Sheperdstown. We are within a few degrees usually.

DanaMo said...

Nest is really swaying. WOW

movin said...

Fell asleep last night after early dinner, and so when I woke up later, I headed down to a Von's that is open until 2 A.M. to get some groceries.

Now I've got to hit the rack to get up early enough to get something done before the heat hits again.... Round and round and round.... But I did get some good stuff for feeds until late next week I guess.

Hello:)
The rain has finally moved out and the sun is trying to shine.
Today's nest weather- Mostly sunny. Scattered showers this morning. Windy with highs in the lower 60s. West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.

DanaMo said...

Wish I was complaining about the heat Jim.
Sounds like you've been up all night.

I'm off...need to get ready for Mass...
Have a great day.

Kay said...

Well, you get some good rest, Jim ! Having spent much of my life in Arizona, I know there are tricks to beating the heat. Tucson wasn't so bad, but in Bullhead City I did a lot of night time shopping. Since it's sister city, Laughlin, NV is just across the Colorado, many businesses operated on a 24/7 basis for the benefit of casino workers.

Kay said...

Megan, welcome ! Happy to have your weather report and glad it's a pretty good one for the nest. How did you fare in the face of the storms yesterday ?

Kay said...

Say a little prayer for all of us, Dana ! Have a great day !

floralgirl said...

Thanks, Kay:)
Think we made it through alright, couple of power outages for several hours. Basement has some water in it, and the gardens are pretty flooded. Had a hard time getting home yesterday after running to school to pick up my kid. Many flooded roads here, not sure I can get out this morning, and with the awful winds, not even going to try.

Kay said...

Dana, it's been so nice chatting with you ! Thanks for sharing the child and pet part of your busy life with me !

Kay said...

Here's hoping you won't find too much damage once you can survey the scene completely, Megan. Perhaps it's a good thing the storm system moved through on Saturday, giving everyone Sunday to dry out a bit and assess damage. Good at least for those who live on a Monday-Friday work week.

floralgirl said...

Hoping the power stays on, the wind is going to be fierce all day. Off to check on my babies in the gh. Have a great day!

Kay said...

I hope Margy is finding an open route and easy travel to Frederick ! Sure wish we'd hear from Lori ! Hope things are okay there.

Kay said...

Thanks, Megan ! May you find all well in the greenhouse. Good luck with the wind and power situation today !

Kay said...

Okay, I'm just going to talk to myself for a while here ! Palm Sunday and my outdoor thermometer reads 40 degrees. Folks will be wearing wraps to church today. Why does Winter refuse to give way completely to Spring ?

Kay said...

Grandson, Seth, is up and at em'. I must get set for the day, open up the kitchen, etc..

Morning, all!

Sun is trying to shine here too...we really need it! We had so much flooding because the ground is just saturated!

Party was great yesterday, Ajay did a fantastic job on the cupcakes...and Gianni was a mess eating hers! Got to see my brother and sil and niece and nephews...wow hadn't been around a 13 yo girl with an attitude in awhile! Makes me glad I had boys, LOL.

I've been trying to meet up with my GF and her hubby, glad we had already changed last night to today, cause last night wouldn't have worked with the flooded roads...heading out around noon for some brunch with them.

Then back home to work on tax stuff...not even going to try to mow the front yard today!

Thanks for the morning visit report...and I see Belle was eating on the nest yesterday?

Good Morning Eagle Friends!

Happy to hear no one had any major damage yesterday.

Decorah eagles just won't stay under Mom!! One keeps trying to edge toward the fish close by. I read where they don't self feed until about 4-5 weeks, but that oldest chick is a food monger!!

Linda said...

Margy - Have a great day today. Prayers for safe travels!!

Where's Robyn?

Worried about how she is feeling and how she fared through the storms.

Has anyone heard from her since Friday night?

hedgie said...

Margy, hope you decided to go 81 and 70 just to be on the safe side!
Have a great time!

Happy Birthday to Miss Gianni!!
Enjoy your brunch, Paula. And then you GET THOSE TAXES DONE!!!

Megan, glad you aren't going to market---the wind would destroy your blossoms.

DanaMo---think KayIM missed your question----she's in OH.

Kay, fascinating about your grandson's studies and travels. I was in India as a toddler for awhile. My Dad was ass't. attache' to the US Embassy in New Dehli.

Wanda, SO sorry my contribution wasn't on hangers. I just don't have many extras----I gave so many to the local consignment shop when I took my uniforms in to sell. Like I said, most of w hat I gave you was folded in drawers.

hedgie said...

Jim, hope you are sleeping now!!!!

Hey, Thelma and Sharon, how's everything in Bedford??

hedgie said...

I see Candy is on FB, so guess things are okay on the OBX. I sent her a message to make sure that all is well down there!!

stronghunter said...

Lots of tornado damage in eastern VA and NC, including the area where my ex has his vacation house. His place is okay, it seems.

There have been injuries and fatalities.

paula eagleholic said...

Hmmm is the osprey at BWO incubating?

Lolly said...

Good morning! Just time to stay on a sec. Have finally managed to read the blog. Glad everyone weathered the storm.

Feeling much better today. Actually I was not feeling bad but my itchy runny nose plus sneezing was driving me crazy!!

The fires were managed a little better yesterday as the wind died down. However, the winds are returning this afternoon. They say it will be several more days fighting the fires. Sad!

Yes, wish we had received some of your rain!

stronghunter said...

We did have enough rain to share for sure, Lolly. But you would not want to have had all of the bad weather south and east of here.

Mema Jo said...

Paula I don't think that an Osprey egg
has been laid but she was in the nest
last evening. They are both there now.

Christine is still without power in NC

Robyn has a video of the rising creek by her home on FB - she is up on a hill
and I think she is feeling well. I hope she is.

Thelma said that the siren went off in Bedford but they are okay.

Lolly said...

Nope we have enough problems with tornado watches to not have yours as well.

I am running late now. Off to get ready for church.

Later!

hedgie said...

I had to chuckle about Paula's comment regarding teenage girls and their 'tude! Yesterday, Miss Jessica was showing hers----which is mostly a "nothing is serious" or "whatevah" attitude. Jenn wasn't with us, but HERS is always the sulky and teariness kind. Wears her heart on her sleeve.
Don't remember either of my girls ever being either way to such extremes!

paula eagleholic said...

Maine nest is a rockin and rollin today, they have our bad weather now. Eagle on the nest eating, not sure if it's Dad Mom or the intruder.

paula eagleholic said...

Oh My, I had better grab a shower and get ready to meet my GF...

hedgie said...

Sent Geula an email to let her know that we are thinking about her....and her EAGLE! She will celebratinng Passover starting tomorrow, so don't know if that will have any impact on her responding or not.

Back from church and digging into the housework. Mom is bringing dinner so that's one thing off the list, but I have lots of dog hair to clean up and a pile of laundry and ironing. Why must all 3 dogs be at my feet when I'm ironing! Urgh!

Well I will try to keep an eye on the nest while ironing.

Good day everyone! Hope you have a great Sunday.

stronghunter said...

It seems that my ex and his wife were at their river house and the tornado missed them by only about 1000 feet. It went right through the field where Rus flies his RC planes when he is down there. Glad that Rus and Rebecca were not there.

Checking back in--guess no more of Trud and nothing of Belle today, eh? So good to see many checking in and letting us know they're okay !!!!

Seth's mom and dad picked him up at 10:15, leaving my granddog, Malcolm, with me while they join another family for hiking southeast of town. He's zonked out because they visited the Dog Park before bringing him over.

DanaMo, Hedgie says I missed a question you posed ? I don't find it, sorry.

Our local friends were outside of Roanoke all week. They had new house built & are in process of moving a little at a time. Their daughter & fam. also live there & they were babysitting for a few days. Called last night & they were away from any damage. They are 25-30 mi. from Roanoke.

Home from church. The choir did their cantata....very beautiful, very moving.

Michael just called. They spent several hours in the emergency room last night. No one saw it happen but Zach some how hit his head on the kitchen counter. He now has 3 stitches in his eye eyebrow. Poor baby! Michael said he did very well but all the blood was very frightening to him.

Lolly said...

What pretty blue eggs! I have not disturbed the mockingbird nest to see what is going on there. Jack did see the mockingbird chasing a squirrel this morning close to the nest.

What is really funny is the squirrel that is apparently nesting in one of our woodpecker bird houses. We see him peeking out occasionally. I will try to get a picture.

Linda said...

Sorry to hear about Zach, Lolly! Things happen so fast with kids, don't they?

Neat eggs in the nest, Paula!!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Just got a text from my friend, Tara. Her father has gotten worse. She is heading back to New Jersey now and they have decided to extubate him this evening. Please pray for her and her family.

Sharon - So sorry to hear that. Will pray for Tara's father and for strength for the family. God certainly gives you strength beyond understanding in tough times. I hope He does so for them.

Linda said...

Sharon - Does that mean they are taking him OFF a ventilator?

Linda said...

One of those eaglets at Decorah is walking away from Mom and the nest cup again! Ugh! That little one makes me nervous.....

Every once in a while he just gets up and walks a couple more steps twoard the edge of the nest. That is probably the one that grabs the fish for himself, too! An independent one, but it could be dangerous!

Linda said...

Now he is going the other way toward the right, which is much better....

I hope he's getting tired. They're so cute. They don't want to be under Mom AT ALL!!

hedgie said...

Scott's pics were fantastic!

Paula, pretty eggs!!! Hope you have a different door to use!!

Oh, Lolly, poor Zach! Thankfully, head wounds heal quickly---and they always bleed copiously.

Shar---so osrry about Tara's Dad. Prayers for them all, as he makes the transition.
Yes, Linda...that does mean that they are removing the vent. :(

Still no e mail responses from Anne Marie or Geula.

Lynn - We frequently have turkeys in our yard around the bird feeders pecking for seeds!!

Last Sunday I looked out my office window and there were 22 of them walking across the yard. The only way I knew how many was because my husband took a picture!!

Sometimes we get the Toms with a half dozen or so hens. It's real interesting when there are two Toms. I love it when they open their feathers and strut their stuf!! LOL

It is always a great relief when I send them away so that I feel finished. They are still in the computer at this point.

Kay said...

Another little spell of catching up since Malcolm's family returned from the hike and took him home. Very windy this afternoon with swirls kind of like the dust devils in AZ. I took him out a couple of times, but not for long---didn't want one of us to get bonked on the head. The trees here are in desperate need of surgery so that Mother Nature isn't faced with doing it her way.

DanaMo, I recall our talking about your son's choice of schools. I imagine you come and go across I70, right ? I'd love to see you if you ever have time for a stopover--can meet you anywhere or have you come here. Wanda has raved about a good Asian Buffet at I70 and Wilson Rd. on the West side of Columbus. Perhaps we could lunch there ?? I'm issueing an open invitation to any of you who find yourselves traveling across that busy route. I'm only about 15 minutes north of I70 with easy access off of either I70 or Rt. 315. Plus, I will meet you anywhere along the way if you'll just give me a little notice !

Paula, that's a beautiful nest ! Don't you just love Robin's Egg Blue ?

Lolly, sorry to hear about Zach's mishap. Seems impossible to raise a boy without occasional stitches being required.

Sharon, my prayers are with Tara, the family and her dad as they face their farewell.

Hedgie, like you say, Guela is no doubt busy with Passover now, however I don't think we've heard from her since sometime during the first week of the month. Hope to soon ! Thanks for the Bear report. They certainly deal with many quandries as they work with the bears, don't they ?

Scott said...

Thanks everyone. I had knew she had a least one in the nest and was hoping I was high enough across the river to see a head soon, sure enough, there was the little one this morning.

Hoda said...

I am figuring the power is holding up inspite of the strong winds...glad to hear it and it sounds you are all well from the storm. Hang in there and I hope it dries up and calms down soo. Good on you all for getting your taxes done before the dead line. In Canada we have two more weeks to go so I am starting my baking so I can get the taxes done!!!;););)!!!

paula eagleholic said...

Yup, it's a robin's nest on my front porch light. I will only be using the front door to go in and out, twice a day. Mama should be able to deal with it! I let Nugz out front, and saw Mama R fly away and raise cane...that's how I knew!
I'll use the back door and fence gate for yardwork.

Not sure when they were laid...if she was there last night when I came home, she either flew off before I made it to the door, and I didn't notice, or she stayed right there.

Got my taxes done as far as I can...have to file extensions for federal and state due to estate issues....not a problem, just have to wait for forms to complete. Extensions are signed, sealed and stamped!

Now onto other lovely chores, like laundry!

paula eagleholic said...

Osprey back on the nest at BWO...eggs must be coming soon.

paula eagleholic said...

Eatin time at BWE....littlest eaglets feathers look much more filled in today!

paula eagleholic said...

Jo, I know you have already left, but have a good couple of days at the beach!

paula eagleholic said...

paula eagleholic said...

Whoa, some big wind gusts at the nest!

Lynn, did you mention the other day about robin's tails moving when they chirp? I see it now!

NatureNut said...

Thx, pals! I was able to see Scott's wonderful pictures. That is one tall chick! First shot reminded me of ET!! LOL That tree makes a perfectly smooth background, almost like a marble pillar!

Well, racecar fans, I do not like this new type of racing---2 mates together, pushing one another.Jimmie Johnson just won by an inch over Clint Bowyer. Little E was behind Johnson. I like the good ol' days---every man for him self. This is all due to the aerodynamics of the newer car bodies. Two together are faster, at least at certain tracks.
Paula, your pics are wonderful~~~my favorite blue color eggs!! ☺

Linda, I almost always have a whole flock. That's why I don't understand just one by herself!
Love watching the little ones try to keep up with the adults!!

Still ironing...anything going on here? :)

DanaMo said...

Nature Nut...I'm not crazy about Johnson so I would like to have seen someone else pushed to the finish line!

paula eagleholic said...

wow Linda...22 turkeys!

@Kay...I would love to meet you sometime when I am traveling through. We will have to make arrangements when the time gets closer. I think classes start the 24th of August. We will be coming down a few days before that to get him set up and attend orientation FOR him. He will be returning from World Youth Day in Madrid Spain and will miss his orientation!

Second oldest is giving the flying labs some "ball" time! Yahoo! They need it.☺

Email from Geula. All is well. Here is what she says about her eagle:
The eagle has been fired but now it's vacation time at the study center so I won't know until the 27th if all is okay with him!
The waiting is driving me crazy!

Kay said...

Lynn, big sigh of relief, so glad Guela is doin' fine ! At least she knows how much we care. Thanks !

DanaMo, I'll look forward to meeting you in person ! What an exciting year for that young man ! How nice that you'll get all his orientation details for him.

Loretta, I'm in complete agreement on the "pushing" thing in Nascar. It's "let's go racing" not "let's go pushing" ! Boo Hiss on the Johnson win today and the Busch win yesterday !!!!

hedgie said...

Geula HAS been lurking and knows all that is /has been happening.

Yep, Paula, I noticed the robin tail twicthing!!

Kay, I'll visit if I go to St. Louis!! I think it's usually lunchtime when I hit Columbus!

I talked to Tara for about 30 minutes. Traffic was moving really slow for her for a while but cleared back up. She is on I95 going by DC. Still has a pretty long trip ahead of her, about 200 miles.

Kay said...

Lynn, Whoopie ! Hope you go to St. Louis soon and often !!!!!

So cute one of the Decorah eaglets is trying to eat something right on the edge of the bowl Wow whats all the noise in the background there besides wind Construction???

Kay said...

Sharon, it's too bad Tara had to make this trip on Sunday when so many are heading home after the weekend. Praying for her safety !

hedgie said...

Loretta, I think if they had had one more lap, Jr. might have stopped pushing Johnson and taken the lead and won it!!! The new cars have changed the whole dynamics and it's not racing the way it used to be, for sure---and I don't like it, either!

Weather at Maine nest has calmed down now...eagle incubating, looks brighter there now.

paula eagleholic said...

Sharon, so sorry to hear about Tara's Dad.

hedgie said...

LOL......KayIM---I don't go to St. L often!!! Usually once a year, but did not go this past year. I'm sure I'll have to make a trip this year. My Mom and sis live outside the city. Mom is almost 92.

Hi, Everyone,

Back home now after going to the dog park. Gave Emma a bath after we got home. She was a VERY good girl! (It figures--she LOVES water!) She's dry now, after a good towel drying. It's warm here today, but not hot. Perfect!

Got some more transcription done. Had to go get more ink for my printer so I could print what I'd done.

We got our taxes done about a week ago, and have already received both the State and Federal refunds!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GIANNI!!!!!!

Sharon, am praying for Tara, her dad, and the whole family.

Glad that everyone seems to be OK after all the crazy weather yesterday!

I fell asleep in front of the TV with Emma again last night.

Lynn, so sorry to hear of your s----- bite! EEeeewww!!!! I would have freaked out, too! Hope it's not causing you any problems.

Had to chuckle--Emma's fur on her ears, on top of her back, and on her tail is SOOOOO wavy/curly after her bath! I probably should have dried her with the hair dryer, but decided not to, since it's so warm today. She's got Marcel waves! :o]

Lynn, what a heritage ! No one on either side of my famly has ever lived that long. Will count on your stopping for lunch, if not the night, either coming or going !

Kay said...

Andrea, that's an impressively speedy tax filing and return ! I mailed mine in on the 31st of March and haven't found any checks in my mailbox yet. :o( Hope that doesn't mean an audit ! Can't imagine it with my small potatoes financial picture.

Loretta and Lynn I'm with you Don't like the new form of racing. I seriously wonder how the drivers "really" feel about it themselves.

paula eagleholic said...

One of the females is at the Maine nest, eating. Dad flew off.

paula eagleholic said...

Both Jordan Lake eaglets have fledged last week...they were both in the nest yesterday...just saw one eating supper on the nest :)

There is a NEW THREAD!

hedgie said...

Took longer than forecast, but the high winds have arrived in force. Already have lost 2 huge limbs. Wish I had a helmet.....still have to take trash out to the road!

hedgie said...

Glo.....I think most of the drivers DON'T like it, but they have basically been told "like it or leave it"........you know....Stifle, Edith!!! It's not much of an individual talent competition anymore.

hedgie said...

KayIM...Mom's Mother lived to 96, and her Dad to 94 (my Grams and Pop). We will hook up for a lunch---or whatever is appropriate for the time I get there!! I drive it straight through.....usually 14 hrs.

Ms Bookworm...dog park sounds awesome. Wish we had one, my labs would love to be able to have a big space to run and play. One with a pond would be really nice. I don't let them in my pool.
