Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, Megan,
A banana split sounds great! I love ice cream, even when it's cold outside! And bananas are really good for you, with all that potassium.

Mits said...

have been watching the Finland nest since I found it in 06, have never seen the light below that bright....:)

Mits said...

Sharon that was nice of you, that is the hospital Judie is at.....

Ms Bookworm said...

Not sure, Helen, but think the sun went down lower, so it's not hitting the chains any more. Really pretty sight, wasn't it?

floralgirl said...

Hello Andrea:) and everybody else too! yep, I love bananas. Off to the wreath machine, got to go make Jo's wreath:)
Have a great day!

Ms Bookworm said...

Sharon, what a wonderful way to support our troops! Must've been quite an experience.

stronghunter said...

Conversation in my class as students are drawing their Gatsby maps. "Oh, a bay has water in it? That is all water?" Sometimes they scare me. I am glad that the young lady learned something today.

stronghunter said...

What a rewarding experience, Sharon.

Ms Bookworm said...

Megan,
Hope you plan on coming inside and warming up every so often--don't know how you do it, working outside!
Guess you're really bundled up, though. Have a fantastic day! TGIF!!! :o]

Ms Bookworm said...

Good Morning, Shirley!
That's amazing--sometimes the youngsters really scare me! Glad that girl learned something new today!

Ms Bookworm said...

Sometimes it seems as if they don't see anything but their cell phones!

Ms Bookworm said...

Shirley,
Bet you can't wait to get your new glasses. I think I need new ones, too, but Hubby needs new ones worse, so will wait a while.

Ms Bookworm said...

Say, there's no snow in the nest this morning! Looks like the sun may be shining, too. Hope we see more nestorations today.

Ms Bookworm said...

Wow, my tea has gotten pretty cold--it's more like iced tea. Gonna go microwave it a bit. Be right back...

paula eagleholic said...

Morning, all!

Frank, aka Darth, you did a wonderful job posting about Judie. Please give her our love and prayers. And please give us an update when you can.

hedgie said...

OMG....I have not caught up on the blog all the way yet, but saw the post from Frank.....Judie, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I am SO thankful that they have realized the urgency and that the wait is over. Frank, thank you for letting us know, and both of you for realizing how important you are to us!

glo said...

Good morning everyone. Still cold and yet beautiful here. Might venture out today and see if I can locate an eagle. Depends on timing as I work tomorrow and have a special trip planned sunday to celebrate a loved ones 90th birthday if the weather co-operates.

Ms Bookworm said...

Good Morning, Glo, Lynn, and Paula!
Ooh--a nice hot mug of tea feels good on my frozen fingers! It's still only 49 degrees out here. Do need to go check on my washer and dryer, too--in the garage. Think I'll warm my fingers up first.

I agree--Frank (aka Darth)did a great job of letting us know about Judie last night! Still praying, and hope we hear from Frank before we know it, that Judie's on the mend.

Ms Bookworm said...

Well, my dryer's buzzing again, so I guess I can't procrastinate any longer. Be back in a little while.
Have a fantastic morning, everyone!

normabyrd said...

MORNIN' PAULA & HEDGIE!---It's getting warmer--we are up to 26 now!!---But I just read in our am papers---nearly 18,000 folks are without electricity in WV!---prayers for those folks--

hedgie said...

LOL....Mits, if I was that tree climber at BWO, I would not have climbed anything in that wind yesterday!!! Guess we shall see how it works out today.

hedgie said...

Megan, do you really have a wreath machine, or are you referring to your hands??? PLEASE stay warm. That lucky Jo---getting another wreath!!! Neat!

hedgie said...

Oh, Shirley, scary.....what did she THINK a bay was???? Duh!

Ms Bookworm said...

Omigosh, I just peeked at the Snowman cam before running to the dryer--LOOK at all that snow! Guess Michigan has really been hit hard! Hadn't checked this cam in a while.

normabyrd said...

Check the number of flamingos that are out this am at the FONZ-----

stronghunter said...

Lynn, I do not know what she was thinking. I try to expand their brains. Sometimes the gaps in knowledge are surprising. This is an eleventh grader in dual enrollment. Shudder.

hedgie said...

It's up to 25 here now, but wind is still blowing....argh!

stronghunter said...

Can't access Snowman from school. It was very snowy yesterday.

Must go run Macbeth tests through Scantron machine. Oh, I hope they did well.

Costume Lady said...

I'm chuckling about the potassium remarks and warming the tea in the microwave...reminds me of my Dad. Oh, my goodness, do I have a lot of fun memories of him, his last year with us. The last year that we had him, GG was recovering from a cancerous tumor near her spine, and I was the caregiver for both of them. My Dad was a very serious coffee drinker (all day long). GG use to make him coffee whenever he asked for it, but, I just didn't have time (there was so much to do with 2 parents needing assistance). So, I would make a big pot of coffee in the morning and Dad would drink it and when there was none left...he would re-warm what was left in his last cup in the microwave. One day when he was feeling to bad to walk to the kitchen, he asked me to warm his cup up. When I opened the microwave door, there were three cups of half empty coffee in there:) Happened that way often...made me feel guilty for not making him fresh coffee;(
One day, Gene had brought home a ton of bananas from the store where he worked (perfectly good, but a day too old to be sold). I placed them on the table in a basket, and as we sat there, Dad ate one after another. After I discreetly took them away, he had eaten 10 of them!
The next day, he had a doctor appointment at the VA Center and they did blood work. When we finally got to see his doctor, he told me Dad's potassium level was sky high. I asked him if eating a lot of bananas would do it and he said yes!:) I miss my Dad so much:(

Costume Lady said...

Hey, Andrea, thanks for the reminder about the buzzer for the clothes in the dryer. My buzzer sounded last night and I was so engrossed in what was on TV that I ignored it, clothes are STILL in the dryer...wrinkled, I'm sure:(
I'll throw a wet towl in with them and run them for a few minutes...should do the trick!

Mema Jo said...

Good Morning All! I told myself to just go on over to the blog and leave those emails hang a while - so thankful I did. News from Frank is very concerning. I'm thankful she is getting the care she needs. Judie was trying to hold out for the Dec 22 appointment with the Dr she wanted. The pain must have been unbearable and I know Frank did right by getting her over to Walter Reed. I pray they take good care of her. She is a very strong woman and I am anxious to hear from Frank again.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

I fixed that buzzer thing, just cut it off!! I will find em when I get ready to put another load in!!!! I know, Wanda, I miss my Mommy and Daddy so bad, too!!!

hedgie said...

Shar, sounds like you had a very fulfilling evening. How long are you "home" for?

Mema Jo said...

This large wreath will be for the inside of my home. Must have that "pine" smell other then spraying room freshener. It is such a fresh wreath that Megan makes for me that it lasts a very long time! So glad I met Megan and it would be great if she could take mail orders! I know you all would love them.

Mema Jo said...

I just broke my coffee pot on my counter top by letting it slip from my hand. It was less than a half cup but What a mess...thankful that those little slivers of glass all stayed in one place. NOW I just may have to go out and get a second cup of coffee.

Mema Jo said...

Going over to open some messages...

Costume Lady said...

Jo, did you break your coffee pot or your CUP? I am notorious for breaking my coffee pot, so when I visit a Thrift store, I stock up on the caraffe so I will have a replacement. They are fairly expensive in the stores, but I have gotten them for anywhere from 25¢ to $1.00.

floralgirl said...

No Judie news yet, huh? always hard waiting to hear...
Yes, Lynn, I do have a 'wreath machine'- it's a clamp machine and you use it to close the clamps on wreath form to hold the greens on. Makes a very sturdy wreath.
Almost finished Jo's wreath, just cut some fresh spruce for it so it will smell great.
Wish the wind would stop....

Fun memories for you, Wanda, I know. You were so fortunate to have your dad for so long. My daddy was only 50 and I was only 20 when we lost him. Miss him terribly to this day. :(

Jo, hope you didn't cut your fingers cleaning up the glass. I worry much more about breaking the carafe/pot since I put in my porcelain sink than when I had stainless....but so far, so good! (I brew my tea in a coffeemaker.)

hedgie said...

Megan, warm up before you go back out!
Hi, Jim. Are you cold???
I, too, wish we would hear something from Frank aka Darth about Judie.....

movin said...

I have been getting ads, ads, ads, for months from Dell, who made this computer...over 5 years ago now; and finally I checked one out in depth and "custom built" a moderate machine with not to many add-ons, and I went ahead and got it.

Well, yesterday morning, less than two days after I ordered, I got a visit from UPS with a cable; and then last night after 9 P.M. somebody started banging on my door. It turned out to be a FedEx man with my new printer...still under two days since my order.

The puter isn't "due" until after the 1st, but if they already have it more or less ready-built, maybe .....

MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE.

I broke the coffee pot and hubby says
I can get a new coffee maker. So all is well. I don't like cleaning up glass but hubby was out getting a haircut.

Like the rest of you I am so anxious to get some news from Judie's Frank. It may include surgery and that may take a while.
Just keep praying!

Costume Lady said...

Well, Jo, while ED is in a GIVING mood, can you think of anything else you want?;)

JIM, Hope you can get ALL the pieces together before Christmas. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU!

Costume Lady said...

Yes, Lynn, I was fortunate to have my Dad for 87 years and GG for 89.
I was fortunate to be retired and able to take care of him and Mom. I honestly enjoyed every minute of it:) They were so easy to care for, did not complain or make demands on me.
GG, now, is getting a little fiesty...and I just smile and agree with whatever she says;)

Good afternoon. Block 4 is working on an essay test. They are feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, Gang,
I'm back, after doing a few chores, feeding the birds, and watering the plants in the front planter that the rain doesn't reach. Waiting now for another batch of laundry to finish drying.
No word yet of Judie! I bet Frank (aka Darth)will be spending the day with her, and won't have computer access until tonight. Still praying for all I'm worth about her situation.
USeeWildlife cam is driving me nuts! Can hear all kinds of splashing and quacking, but not a bird in sight on cam, just perfectly still water. Aaarggh! Oh, wait--there are now 2 ducks in the picture, but they are the size of pin heads!

movin said...

tHANKS, Mema Jo. That is a very funny video ... The Great Escape!

I think that Diego's walking, etc., is "miraculous", since he's been sleeping through all the development stages ...compared to other baby Pandas I've seen.

But he can really move when he wants to. I think he likes that rug better than the slick floor. They should put something like that in the den area.

Ms Bookworm said...

Wanda, I love the story about your Dad! Thanks for sharing.
BTW, believe it or not, when I went out to water the plants out front, one of our hummingbirds was there!
He was sipping from our big Lantana bush out there, which is covered with flowers. I DID refill the hummingbird feeder, so he's got plenty to eat. Amazed at how they survive in such cold weather!

stronghunter said...

Judie and Frank

I wanted to share a picture of Judie and our newest dadster, Frank. I know we are all waiting to hear from them. You all haven't met Frank yet. I have! Great guy! I hope he comes with Judie to our next gathering. He will fit right in.

Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, Shirley,
Hope your kids make it through the essay test OK. I'm sure the challenge will do them some good.

stronghunter said...

Block 4 is still suffering. You would think I'd done gone and kilt them, poor kids. Means they need more practice.

stronghunter said...

They are begging me to remove some questions, etc., etc., (whine, whine). Claiming they haven't had to write a four page test even in an AP class. I have said they may have time on Monday to finish and that I know they can do it. Boy, do they need practice.

Ms Bookworm said...

Wow, Shirley,
Thanks for the great picture of Judie and Frank! Very nice!
I'm sure your kids will get lots of practice with the essay test. Have to laugh--when I was in school, it seemed as if that's the only kind of test anyone ever gave me, except for my math teacher! He even gave us a bunch of those 'story problems' too, though. Come to think of it, those kids should be able to do pretty well on an essay test--seems like all they ever do is send and receive TEXT messages!
Guess that involves a whole other language, though.LOL :oD

stronghunter said...

These kids get college credit for this class. They are plenty smart. The one doing the most complaining is very intelligent, and usually can just whip off an assignment with ease. I do not think he is accustomed to being challenged.

This is my best class. They are good kids.

Ms Bookworm said...

Say, just for fun, you ought to have them write an assignment in their 'Text speak'! It's kind of like reading shorthand!

stronghunter said...

That is the way they write notes to each other, even on paper. It is unreadable for most adults.

Mema Jo said...

Great photo of Frank & Judie. Remember seeing it from the day you all went to see the Eagle release. Andrea you're probably correct in that we won't hear from Frank until this evening.

BBILW Going to bank for some fresh
new greens and then to Post Office....

Ms Bookworm said...

You're probably right, Shirley! We'd probably need a translator!

stronghunter said...

Yes, Jo, it is from the eagle release.

Schools out!

Boy, do I want to go home. I wonder what the weather will do this weekend?

Ms Bookworm said...

Jo,
I just watched the panda 'escape' video again--it is SO cute! Can't see enough of it!

Ms Bookworm said...

Judie said...

Hi Ya'll:

Here's an update on Judie a/o 5 pm ET.

She just returned from the CATH lab at Walter Reed where they were successful in opening up several blockages in her right thigh. She now has blood flow and warmth down to her foot. So far, so good. She sounds great, and not feeling any pain based on the drugs they have been giving her. It's like she has had one too many cocktails based on her speech. As we say, she is s-m-o-o-t-h, very smooth.

If there's a rough patch, she has not been allowed to eat or drink anything [except sips of water] since she entered the hospital. Her last meal was noon on Thursday. Finally, while we were on the phone, they brought her dinner. I thought she would take a bite out of the server if he did not put the plate down. Needless to say, I let her go at this point to enjoy her meal.

I must say, your thoughts and prayers were right on target. You are quite a group, all you MOMsters and POPSters of the eagle world. We thank you so very much for caring.

By the way, we have a pair of eagles spotted taking up residence and building a nest at nearby Lake Accotink Park. We shall look forward to seeing our new neighbors.

Well, folks, that's going to be it for now from here. I may give you an update as the situation warrants. But, more than likely you will have your ole Judie back, blogging away... certainly by Sunday, if not tomorrow.

My warmest to all.

Frank [aka Darth]

P.S. If she has not explained or it is not obvious, Judie needs to tell you how she bestowed upon me the pseudonym of "DARTH"

Mits said...

Frank aka Darth, thanks for the update:)

stronghunter said...

Hi Frank,

Better "Darth" than "Tiger" at this point. (Unless it's Wanda-Tiger.)

Thanks so very much for sharing the news with us. Good to know that Judie was ready to tear into that food. That is a very good sign.

Prayers continue for both of you.

hedgie said...

Oh, Frank, so thankful that you let us know that Judie is doing so much better. Whew! Sighs of relief here, for sure. Please give her lots of hugs from the momsters when you go back to the hospital. Tell her we have been praying like crazy! Hope she does make it home quickly.
Cool that Accotink will be home to a pair of eagles! Hope you have a good camera!

paula eagleholic said...

Oh, Darth, what a wonderful post! Thank you so much! Hugs and prayers to you and Judie!

Mema Jo said...

Frank I really want to thank you for the update. I have been anxious all day and it is relieving to have your message. Prayers will continue!
You may need to take dessert to her when you go in to visit!

stronghunter said...

Wish I could send her a Carl's malted. Once, when I was in the hospital, I was craving one. Although visitor's hours were over, Rus and Tom sneaked in the doctor's entrance with a group of doctors and delivered it to me. It was delicious.

stronghunter said...

I unpacked my laptop as soon as I got home this evening and went online to check for a Judie report. It was so nice to see Frank's message. Have been thinking about Frank and Judie all day.

stronghunter said...

(Even in my long johns and thick socks, I felt it!) Kids came in complaining that it was too hot. It seems to be fashionable to complain that it is too hot. I do not understand.

Hi, Shirley,
That reminds me of my school--the classroom I'm in has a messed up thermostat, and it's always 80-82 degrees in there. Tuesday night when I left to go home after 5 hours, it was about 42 degrees outside. My system was in shock by the time I got to the car! It was that dampish kind of cold that goes clear through to your bones. Brrrr!

stronghunter said...

80 degrees definitley too hot!
Sometimes these kids complain when it is 68 or so.

Frank great news. Thanks so much. Now you rest. Sometimes the person waiting is more exhausted than the patient. They should give the waitee some of those meds.

Ms Bookworm said...

By the way, Frank/Darth, if you're still there, can't thank you enough for the update on Judie! Please tell her that prayers are being said that she will be able to come home tomorrow, and that she will be healing up rapidly! God bless both of you! Pray that you'll get a REALLY good night's sleep tonight, too. Bet you're pretty sleep deprived by now!

Gonna read back on the blog and catch up--BRB!

Hi all!

Darth, thank you for the report. I quickly looked for your post this evening. So thankful Judie is doing better. We will celebrate when she is back with us!

Shirley, thanks for the great picture of Judie and Frank. Great to put a face with a name.

Shirley, read to Jack your post about your student and what she said about a 'bay". That is just wild! Jack wants you to ask them "Who was our enemy in WWII?" He is really curious to see what their answers will be.

Lynn, read your comment about when you lost your Daddy. My daddy was 58 and I was 25 when he died. I am still at times over whelmed by the loss. Had Momma until she was 91. She was wonderful, alert, interested in everything, and NEVER complained. Also, she never took off her wedding rings.

Okay, now to tell you...we are at home. We left this morning. An hour down the road Jack tells me he has to get to the emergency room. Will not go into details (TMI!) but he had to be catheterized. He still has it and will be going to his urologist next week. He has a history with this problem. We had to come home, of course, and I have kept the tears at bay. My brother and sister and spouses are having a good time together. Have not seen Larry in a year! It has NOT been a fun day.

Well, I actually posted that last post at 6:40.....just came back to puter and found a conflicting edit message...refreshed and it posted it!
Crazy blogger cop.
Oh, Lolly, so sorry to hear about Jack and your change of plans. Please try not to cry. Know that it is disappointing, and that you are worried about him, but he, of course, is the most important thing at the moment. Hope he's not in too much discomfort now. ((((hugs)))) and prayers.

Sorry I wasn't here sooner to tell you
Hi - Thelma!
Lolly there has to be a good reason not to have made the trip. Praying for Jack to get the care he needs - You
can just start baking cookies and await the reason for all of this. I can feel your disappointment! :<(

I checked the Walter Reed website to see if there was a card delivery system like we were able to do for Shar and Mrs. Riffe.....NOT!

Cooked dinner, we were both hungry. Sorta skipped lunch today. We were at the hospital and later we were not hungry. We are sitting here watching TV. As long as Jack is in his chair he is fairly comfortable. Hope he does not have the catheter too long, but possibly a week. Doctors office did not call back so we will know more Monday.

Also, had to go get Annie. She was happy to be released from "camp".

I now have a free weekend ahead of me. Will take care of some baking and other Christmas preparations.

Lolly, I have to hope that it was just the one girl who did not know what a bay was. I had decided I needed to do this project to keep them interested in the book. Gatsby is really not a hard read, but there is plenty to teach in it. I did not expect to end up teaching what a bay is. I did mention that a "sound" is also a body of water, as in Long Island Sound.

Lolly said...

Jack will soon have a hockey game to watch. Think the STARS play around 9.

Would have been great to send cards to Judie. Too bad they do not have that courtesy.

stronghunter said...

It really looks like Judie might not be at the hospital long enough to worry much about cards. I think I will just send something to her home.

paula eagleholic said...

Yup, Shirley, just read that article on Tiger....now Dateline is on...talking about his affairs. Apparently, the Enquirer published a story about his infidelity the day before the car wreck incident.
