Killed a humongous Boris under deck yesterday w/ a healthy(?) shot of 20-ft. wasp spray. Nothing left today but legs...afraid now that whatever bird (probably) that got it might suffer dire consequences....boo.
Good Morning All! Decide to brighten things up a bit with the Blue lettering! Man - they said 4 groundhogs/fighting Mits - did they make noise like the raccoon do? Hedgie - you have to do what you have to do! Boris isn't allowed near you!
Got up early, temporarily supposedly, but it looks like I'll get some coffee and food and see if I can break the stupid schedule I've gotten into. [:~D]
MORNING Jim! It is hard to break a sleep habit - I keep getting up too late in the morning and staying up too late in the night! I need a reason not to just lie in bed in comfort! I best start making my appointments for earlier than afternoon hours!
Hedgie - ok I hope to bring over your earlier morning comment concerning Suzanne's work status
Norma, Suz is fine---but her job isn't. Her company lost its contract with the gov't., so she has no idea where/what/if she will be working come Monday. Whoever got contract could hire them, or she can apply for other positions her company might have. She says she will not take an overseas assignment. She's checking in to possibilities at Fort Detrick, or maybe here in Martinsburg....MTBR. Thursday, October 29, 2009 8:47:00 AM Suz asked that we NOT email her work address as of right now - Noon Thursday. She will try to get pc hooked up at her home so we can email her at her E_M yahoo address..... Offer up prayers for a good job assignment for her future....... :<)
Howdy! Getting a late start here. Slept till 9 this morning, that would be 10 for those of you east of me! Muscle relaxers help more than the muscles to relax. lol Of course, we were up late.
Had a great time babysitting with Zach. After he went to bed, I slept on the sofa. Jack was watching the stars in the media room. Then we drove home in the rain once again. Not so bad this time. They try to talk us into staying, but it is always nicer to sleep in your own bed. Beside that they are up and out of there early.
Loweeda, I do not know if I told you how much I enjoyed your pictures. Those are fantastic! WOW!
Hooking up w/ my youngest later this afternoon for a bit of shopping--I need FLAT boots for trekking out driveway in snow/ice....my old wedge-heels make me feel very unstable. Of course, I'm picky--they need to be well-lined so I don't have to put on socks, and just easy on/off---no zippers! Wish me luck.
I am wondering if we will get snow this winter. They are predicting a cooler, wetter winter. So far it has come true. Our lakes are now full and some are over their capacity. Central Texas lakes are still way down.
Deb, that is an interesting cam. Will be able to see the snow there for sure!
Lynn, I have the UGGS, you are not supposed to wear socks with them, because the linings are so good, best pair of boots I have ever owned, have 2 pair....one slip-on and one tie-up....great for cold wet weather..got them online
I'm dragging my caboose in here, still yawning and wondering how I managed to fall back asleep after breakfast, about 4 1/2 hours ago!!
Jim, guess you're not the only one with a messed up schedule!
Sent Hubby off to work today; his boss was concerned that he might have THAT flu, and called yesterday afternoon. He doesn't. He certainly doesn't feel lousy enough for it to be THAT flu. Some people he works with have youngsters in the extended family who are recovering from it, and they absolutely felt like death warmed over. Long story short, the company is absolutely being really careful, and if the boss thinks Hubby shouldn't be at work, he'll send him home. In that case, he'll have to take a vacation day--no sick days left. So far, so good. I gotta call the school and find out what hours the registration for next semester is set up for--the signs on the walls at school didn't say, and no one else seemed sure about it. Guess I better find out right away. Off to make a quick phone call, and will BRB....
Lolly, hate socks!! Just want to go from slippers into boots and right back to slippers! Mits, Christie has Uggs....I said something about them, but she said they are for fashion, not utility----that snow would ruin them.....a bit more than I feel justified in spending anyway!
Andy, hospital where Christie works sends them home if symptomatic---and still counts it against them...if no vac time left, no pay. Not fair! i say if they feel up to working, put a mask on them and let them work or else pay to stay home w/o using vac days!
I wear mine strictly for utility, and not fashion, (they are after all uggs and are ugly)....my feet or still warm when I take them off...great for snow, rain and footballs games....no problems viewing exam here.
Moving okay, Lolly....but no strenuous activity!!! Mits, remember that you had your Uggs on at NCTC last spring! "Kids" wear things for different reasons than we do, don't they??
Getting ready to head out. See you fine fowl friends this evening. Having dinner out at our fav Mexican place, too. BTW----shows tonight are NOT repeats!
Jo I am still doing some windows and closets but having trouble with my hip and leg. Damn getting old sucks. Go to the doc next week will see what he says.
Had some trouble getting the blog -- kept giving me an error message. Figured you all had de-momstered me or the blog cop has a nasty attitude today.
Anyway, hope the best for Suzanne. And for you neatniks, take it easy with the physical stuff. No need to give doctors more business.
About ready to leave for the police class. Then I'm done teaching for the week. Just have a list of school work a mile long to get through before Tuesday.
Afternoon Everyone! Haven't seen any animals on this grey, cloudy day. But Shorty, our squirrel neighbor, came by for his peanuts. He'll walk after us onto deck, but won't let me move toward him yet. Goal is to hand feed him, but think he's too skittish yet! Been Panda napping today after taking cough syrup! But I feel groggy even if I don't take it!! Put eagle pic on desktop & Fubby thinks it's the best pic he's ever seen! I just keep staring at it & wish it wore it's nametag!!
Paula, Greg didn't say. Hard to tell w/just one, but he kept calling him He!
Gonna try to get up appetite for dinner. Have a great, easy recipe for a crab casserole, but I refuse to make it until I can taste!! I'll have to put it on here.
Hi everyone... Really busy today. Buying costumes now instead of accessories:) Had to hop on here to tell you that I got a letter today from Friends of Blackwater. I tried to copy it onto here, but it will not copy. Scanned it to Picasa and on to my blog "SMILES". Must click on image to enlarge to read. Made me feel good that we sent them some of the proceeds from our Raffle sales. It is a personal letter and not a duplicate form letter:) Back to work. As Margy would say: back much later;)
We had salad and eggplant parmegian (sp)Left overs from last night. Love leftovers. Loretta your pics were great. Paula do hope that Maine nest does well this year. They have had some problems the last few years. They sure do get some rough storms.
Wanda - I was able to enlarge the letter of thanks from Black Water & I too am very happy we sent them the donation. We have an invite to come down - ROAD TRIP..... Thanks for taking care of the proceeds.
Well I am off to the store. We went shopping all over today and I forgot to get oil. I promised to make cup cakes for a Church's Octoberfest. Want to do that first thing in the morning. BBL
Stayed about three refreshes, Jo... I was trying out my new picture naming routine, got three pics but only put the time on one of them. Will post shortly...waiting for a return visit
Megan - Was the Pumpkin still ok on the bus ?? On FB he said he had forgotten how much fun it was to carve jack-0=laterns. I told him I would take him to the pumpkin patch!
You and I had some duplicates, Jo, but I did get the earlier ones up and some later ones and in betweens. I think I like the last one the best...staring right at us
Nice site. Lots of beautiful deer. Cam 2 the clouds are nice. I'm back from the store. I do make a list but think that I remember everything. Guess I don't.
We have a large album this month that's for sure, and thanks for getting the next one ready for us so soon..saw that a week or so ago ... you are the Momsters Album Muckity Muck here for us Jo ☺ ♥
This is sooner rather than later...Ceil, just read the BWO letter, Wow...and then checked out Wanda's Musical Nest video from Sunday morning...(on Wild and Wonderful) - wow that is awesome too... better get to the tub before I have a small flood...
Yes, if you take a list remember to read it as you go isle to isle! lol I take a list and still come home with things that weren't even on the list! Go figure!
The new site Mits found for us - we read some of the comments... You won't believe this!
sniperbob1 (10/27/2009 at 11:16 AM)
Words spreading around Camp Victory here. Soldiers talking about what they saw on the cameras. Beating on doors and walls yelling "deer on camera one". Good to have them be able to think about something other than missions all the time. We've made some convoys outside the city and seen desert fox and camels. But not the same as "there's a buck". Thanks to all for the support. It is greatly appreciated.
That is a great cam. Glad to give the troops some reminders of home. Jo I never get only what I go to the store for. Going to rest my hip and leg. If I don't get back. Pleasant dreams
Well, guess it's time for world series!!!Last night's Phillies' pitcher was awesome. Eagle pic I put on desktop is I think the first one w/more colored leaves. If I konk out during game, Pleasant Feather Dreams to all!! :>) Gotta get up at decent hour in AM to try and get spiffy. Want to make a new outdoor exhibit dedication we did tomorrow at Park. It is for Columbia Air Ctr. that was the 1st black owned airport in early 1900s.Was later used for training by military during War. There are a couple plane frames in the woods nearby. That's why Park is on Croom Airport Road!!
Well best wishes on that Loretta..I agree, that pitcher had a terrific attitude and outlook...
Good Night Ceil and pleasant cupcake dreams
and Jo - that is a wonderful thing to hear that the soldiers can experience that kind of joy and home-grown excitement from so far away, thanks for posting that comment
These cameras are in Arkansas and in a fair-chase environment. No high fences or anything like that and not on a very big piece of private property. Part of the reason we cover the cameras when we do maintenance and fill feeders is because a couple of the gentlemen who do that work are recognizable to many people, which would add further clues to where these cameras are located. We've already had too many of the right, or actually wrong, type questions asked that could bring the wrong type of attention to this place. We're like all hunters, we don't want company, poachers or whatever. We feel it's best to just keep rocking along without drawing too much attention to the exact area. We are considering adding a couple of cameras to the mix, so we hope you will keep checking in. Steve Bowman ESPN Outdoors.com
Good evening folks. Home and settled in....just looked at Mits' new site---it's snowing in Arkansas!!! Deer at feeder, too. Ceil, please feel better.....as for gorcery lists....I always end up with more (impulse buying!!)--but I always carry a pen and cross off as I go...that helps me not to forget something--as long as it's on the list!!
Wanda, glad business is picking up! Nice personalized letter from BW....but how come they think we "are" NCTC?
Ceil, if you're doing windows......it could be your arm/shoulder nesxt, so don't do too many in a day---I get it there from the motion of wiping, and in knees from climbing to reach them!!
Mits, I got fake uggs!!! Think they will suit the purpose just fine! SIL came on the shopping trip---so we ended up eating at a new Jamaican place---good jerk chicken and cocoa bread!

Eagle at BWO platform.
MORNING Jim! It is hard to break a sleep habit - I keep getting up too late in the morning and staying up too late in the night! I need a reason not to just lie in bed in comfort! I best start making my appointments for earlier than afternoon hours!
Good Luck!
Oh no, that four letter word, Deb!
Morning, all! :-)
Deb, looks very picturesque...but they can keep it!! Street reminds me of Sturgis. Are you supposed to get any?
Thanks, Mema Jo. I have had a lot of troubles getting to sleep when I would like and then sleeping late.
Fortunately, I haven't taken to lying in bed for very long yet...maybe next, hahaha.

Don't forget you can still email Suzanne at her personal address and on FaceBook. But time's about out for using her work address.
She's hopeful about getting a position with the same contractor, perhaps nearer her place.
I'm pulling for her.

Hubby is at dentist getting crown work started $$$$$ WOW!
I'm not going to roll on glass...ouch:)
My Sturgis cam from Bike Week also has cams showing all the snow.
I wonder if Ceil is still cleaning house. I need to break soon and distribute the clutter from my table!
I am glad the early birds got to see the Regal Couple. Thanks Wanda for the pics you put in E_M album...

They do have a 2 yo juvie....
Ceil I hope you feel better soon. Stop cleaning and rest your arm! You have a recliner - right? Have a seat!
I agree with you that it is very unfair to keep us sooooooo healthy when we were working and to hit us with
ailments when we want to be enjoying life!
Off for a break
I may start decluttering!

Nest Update
10/29/09:
We had several bluebirds on the platform Thursday.
Blackwater Refuge maintains a collection of bluebird boxes to encourage nesting by these colorful little birds.

Neat love the bluebirds
They are definitely blue!
Megan - 3.79 or 2.79???
I don't think I have ever seen a real bluebird:(
Whoops, two
Hi everyone,
Had some trouble getting the blog -- kept giving me an error message.
Back later tonight.
Judie
Those leaves on the sycamore are dropping fast!
Hi everyone. Just wanted to stop by and hope everyone is having a nice day. It's a bit dreary here and I don't feel like doing anything.
Hope I see those elusive birds again today. I get so excited when I do hubby asks if I'm okay.
Got to do my exercises ... still have some pain from yesterday, but
"no pain, not gain?" It's the pits.
will check in later ...
Loretta - that eagle pic does make a great desktop background. Did Greg think it was the female?
Diann - it's been dreary here all day too...cloudy and cool.
Eagle in the Maine nest
Hi

Hi Margy
Loretta - is your screen saver the pic with the eagle looking at ya! Love it

Hi everyone...
Really busy today. Buying costumes now instead of accessories:)
Had to hop on here to tell you that I got a letter today from Friends of Blackwater. I tried to copy it onto here, but it will not copy. Scanned it to Picasa and on to my blog "SMILES".
Must click on image to enlarge to read. Made me feel good that we sent them some of the proceeds from our Raffle sales. It is a personal letter and not a duplicate form letter:)
Back to work. As Margy would say: back much later;)
This was an overtime day, Helen, got off at 4 pm instead of 6 -
three 12's coming up starting Friday....Trick of Treat...Trick!
Forgive me if I sound ungreatful for the sales of accessories. That is a great part of our income, but we need to sell costumes too!
Wanda wow That does make me smile. Great letter. Jim wants to go back in a week or two. It takes us a little over two hours to get there.
That was a really nice letter. Thank you Wanda.
Wanda...I think I could spend my whole paycheck in your store !
☺
Well I am off to the store. We went shopping all over today and I forgot to get oil. I promised to make cup cakes for a Church's Octoberfest. Want to do that first thing in the morning. BBL
well, how nice was that...makes me SMILE:) too:)
That is a great letter, Wanda:)
Going to do a Margy so I can say Hi Margy.
Megan Did you mean $2.79
Or was the gas really $3.79 ? Ouch!
I noticed $2.71 across the street.
I once saw a bluebird couple out at Jenny's and it and the Indigo Bunting are the bluest of blues!
Really dark up at the ME nest.
Margy - I sure hope you have a quiet 3 days but with Trick or Treat I don't see how you will keep the ghouls and goblins and witches in line!
Jo, their sunset up there is 5:36p.m.
Ceil, you forgot to get the butter the other day....FYI, make a list;)
Nice Morning Visit Pictures, Wanda - Thanks !
Eagles calling at Maine, but all is dark there
were....
what a sweet sound:)
Hallowe'en makes me nervous, especially when the weather is bad..
Guess I will wear my bibs to work and go as a farmer ☺
I'm wondering if the scare of the flu, will keep some young ones home
Precautions I heard today said you should cancel the bobbing for apples, and don't let kids wear each other masks or things like vampire teeth.
Or wax lips ! :-)
Is there a link to the letter from BWO somewhere...my clunker eyes cannot find it
Our nest is really looking fortified
Margy Stick some straw/hay out the legs of the Bibs and out the arms of a plaid shirt - get a straw hat and a corncob pipe And Presto!!!!
You are a scarecrow!!! <:<)
Margy it is on Wanda's SMILES
What no wax lips:(:(:( darn, that was my costume.

Okay, Thanks Mits ! Headed that way now
After the Eagle visit that is

I was over on Deadhead cam and checking out the letter and had to scramble to get back on here !

Goes clear over to Baghdad WOW!
That is a great cam. Glad to give the troops some reminders of home.
Jo I never get only what I go to the store for.
Going to rest my hip and leg. If I don't get back. Pleasant dreams
Short stay for the bear - he's gone -
unless he is hiding behind the snowman.
Remember to check out the snow fall!!!

Good Night Ceil and pleasant cupcake dreams
and Jo - that is a wonderful thing to hear that the soldiers can experience that kind of joy and home-grown excitement from so far
away, thanks for posting that comment
Reminds me that tomorrow is RED FRIDAY
Next time down you will need to show us those plane frames........
Hope you feel better and yes you always look spiffy!

It is Minnesota

buck at Arkansas cam

Maybe they should add an eagle cam :-)
Good evening folks. Home and settled in....just looked at Mits' new site---it's snowing in Arkansas!!! Deer at feeder, too.
Ceil, please feel better.....as for gorcery lists....I always end up with more (impulse buying!!)--but I always carry a pen and cross off as I go...that helps me not to forget something--as long as it's on the list!!
I'm glad you brought that over Mits...
I didn't take time to read it..
I don't even know why I said Minnesota.. well I do - I had another site up!
I smell wood fire stoves when I go out on deck. I love that smell.
Hi Lynne - did you have a good day and a great dinner?
Mits, I got fake uggs!!! Think they will suit the purpose just fine!
SIL came on the shopping trip---so we ended up eating at a new Jamaican place---good jerk chicken and cocoa bread!
love jerk chicken.....good night everyone....off to watch TV....prayers for all
Good for you, Lynn, hope you enjoyed yourself
split coming up:)
