Yes, Jo, we are excited to be getting home. Going to have a busy week, cleaning the trailer and getting it back to it's home. Also, Joseph's birthday is Sunday so we have that to look forward to.
Hi Wanda! We are excited to be getting home, happy that it has been such a wonderful trip, sad to return our Jacob to his parents. Will miss him, though it will also be nice to have peace again. lol
Hey, Lolly---glad you are almost home! 5 hrs. doesn't seem too bad! I think it is the mother of a friend of Deb's niece, who is dying from a brain tumor. Please include the Hooper family in your prayers for her. Goodnight to you (&Jack!) and to Wanda and her crew, and to our sweet Mema Jo! Glad you had a nice family gathering for an early birthday celebration!!
Lynn I sure did - Thanks for answering Lolly about Deb. Wanda - I am feeling much better.. Cough is disappearing.. Sleeping well.. I'll be more than 'ready' for Friday and Saturday.....
Good night to my friends Prayers for everyone's needs/wants Peace to All! (((hugs))) ♥
Hello Norma! Yep, cause I love little kids, but usually I am not in the maze, just ordering everyone else around. I am the head muckity muck, if you will. Right now I am in a panic ove the weather forecast. No rain for months here and now it will just cause me headaches if it does rain during the day this week. Ya just can't win ......
MEGAN!---I DEARLY LOVE 'little ones' too!---I always smile or wave to them in super markets!---They always grin----(in all my years of doing this---only ONE child 'stuck her tongue out at me'-----NOT BAD ODDS! ho!
Catching up w/blog---DEB--I am so sorry to read about your friend & her battle with cancer----I will certainly keep the HOPPERS on my prayer list----GOD BLESS!
Morning all. Coming in to say Happy Columbus Day and let me see is there something else I forgot. I have CRS you know. Hmmm. Oh yes HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JO. Judie Sheila is a falcon in Australia. Helen get the site for Judie. Thanks
HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY to you CEIL!!---Is this a holiday for you?---WV State workers have a holiday today!!-------That's one thing I miss since I have retired!---I don't get any state holiday off anymore!!---DARN!
Yeah MITS!---The announcers keep reminding everyone---Their COACH decided to bring his children & his father with him!!---That's why the BENGALS went wild after the game!!!!
Monday, October 12, 2009 It is over a week since the first chick emerged therefore we would expect all of the eggs to now have hatched. Today we can clearly see three chicks as Sheila arrives with a morning meal. However what is not so clear is if one unhatched egg remains. MORNIN' LYNN2---I remember you---you folks are the campers!!---Remember I told you that you could NOT kill rattlesnakes or copperheads in the State of MD!--Great to hear from you again!!!
Lynne, any camping trips lately? Have you gotten all settled in to the "new" house? Mits, how is Annie this morning?? What time is her Drs. apptmt.? WOuldn't it be cool if he finds that she's about 4 or 5 cms. dilated???
hahaha! Last snake encounter was with a dead on on the road that I am convinced is the one who ate my bluebirds! Oh, I realize there are probably hundreds of black rat snakes here and just because he was the right size and very very close to where I released his fat ass after the massacre certainly doesn't mean it IS him, but sometimes you just KNOW these things. Not happy that he's dead, though I did bring him up to the porch for some pictures and a good close look....WHY DID I NEVER BECOME A BIOLOGIST???? I know some think this is gross (like my very loving and tolerant husband) but it was amazing to get such a good look.
We've got 35 attending Sat., Lynne....the Bluefield(and now Bedford) gals (Sissy's hubby and Mattie, too) are coming up, all of us locals and regulars (except maybe Dana), Norma, Bob, Judie, Shirley (w/ two daughters and grandson), Iris, etc. Are you changing your mind??? Want me to send you the schedule?? Wanda needs final headcount for Sat. dinner today!
We have a camping trip scheduled for this weekend...a complete screw up on my part because as I usually do these days, I get my dates mixed up, and it's why we can't come to open house. Anyway the only thing that would make us not go would be the weather and WHOA...the weather forecast looks UNSUITABLE for camping at this point...cold and wet! hahahaha Maybe we'll get to Open House after all....only we won't be able to make a final decision til probably Thurs and I guess that is too late to sign up?
Heck, no, Lynne-----one or two more won't matter....dinner seating is set up for 40, I think, and we're ordering off menu, so not like a buffet head count!! I'll go ahead a email info to you, and then let me know Fri.!!!!
Hey Sharon! Well, it would be great to go to Open House and finally meet everyone (almost everyone) in person! I want to go camping...but it's so not worth the drive and trouble to go up if it's going to be 45 degrees with showers. And I want to go to Open House for sure if the trip gets canceled!!!!!
I agree Megan, that rotten beast. It seems that Black Rat snakes LIKE to hang out in trees looking for munchies. From the video of the last nest visit of the one in the tree there...also a black rat snake. Nature is a beautiful/horrible thing to witness. Today I was looking out our spare room window to the birdfeeders down below and found either a Hairy or Downey woodpecker in the gutter, dead. Of course being the biologist wannbe, I'll go get him and see if I can tell what happened. My guess is that he somehow flew into the side of the house.
Yep, probably flew into window or house:( shhh...don't tell Norma, we might have accidently shot a copperhead out of a tree right beside the house this summer. He was going after catbird's and dove's nest. Just his natural instinct to do so, I know, but I swear we didn't mean to hit him....
Got it Lynn! Thanks....now I am almost hoping the weather forecast for Garret Co keeps deteriorating....a few showers and 57 sounds a whole lot better for a day trip than 44/35 and showers for an overnighter!
Forecast for Shepherdstown, WV

Thu Oct 15 Showers 47°/40° 40 % Fri Oct 16 Rain 54°/35° 60 % Sat Oct 17 Few Showers 57°/38° 30 % Sun Oct 18 Partly Cloudy 56°/38° 20 %
Good morning from the winter wonderland. It looks like the snow is winding down from the radar. We got about 3" from my guess. The roads are still warm enough that it didn't stick to them here.
Cool and cloudy here so far....think it's trying to rain...but radar not too promising! Have Drs. apptmt. this afternoon---and have to pic up my special little contribution to our goodie cups for the weekend!!
Yep, Paula, especially when it was right by the house. I never kill a black snake unless it's in the basement and I can't get it out any other way. I run into them in the garden and gh all the time and know they are eating mice and moles, etc. so we tolerate each other. I have learned not to freak out at the sight of one...
well, speaking of moles......when we moved in, the front of the house was a mess and they gave us landscaping allowance to fix it up. (by the way Megan, next spring I'm hook up with you to buy stuff). Wsll, we cleaned and dug and planted a few pretty things to get started....and I had the brilliant idea to plant bulbs for next spring. Probably planted close to 100. A week later, I went out there to water and the WHOLE FRONT OF THE HOUSE was all MOLE TUNNELS. Running all through our beds and while I haven't had the heart to look, I bet every dang bulb is GONE. What do you do for moles???
WHOA! WHOA!---MEGAN!----I am scared to death of snakes---any kind of snake!!!----I don't mind spiders at all!---I never kill them in the house!---Will go out of my way to let them live!!----
If I remember!---I was reading the SNAKE INFO out of a MD newspaper---stating it was illegal to kill the copperhead or rattlesnake in MD!--- I LIVE IN WV!---ho!
Spiders outsied, ok, inside, no way. Moles are a real problem, lynn. We have been battling them for years. Traps are the best deterrent, nasty but necessary. Milky spore will eliminate grubs which they eat, but they also eat earthworms, so it's not foolproof.
HERE I AM - IT IS ME - Thanks to all of you that have kept me so busy this morning opening my cards and reading messages! It is a special day because of soooooo many special friends Thanks again!
There are mole treatments, Lynne...but they are a pain to use--usually require digging. We used to drop mothballs in the holes to the tunnels....don't know whether it really works or not....may be that they are cyclical----I used them several years ago but some years they are there and others not. Didn't have any tunnels this year.
Did anyone hear that Andrew Lloyd Webber is doing a sequel to Phantom of the Opera that is set at Coney Island....this should be interesting---and probably disappointing!! Can't imagine topping Phantom!
I've tried many mole deterrents, traps are the only truly effective control here. Thanks, Jo, I can't get the Caring Bridge site to send me those Mason updates anymore lately, I keep signing up, but it isn't working for me.
woo hoo updated for cast for Grantsville....Sat, 42/34 with 40% chance of Rain/Snow Showers hehehehehe!!! No camping/Shepherdstown here we come if that holds!
I was watching DIEGO earlier---BAI had covered him with bamboo!---Then as if she just remembered---she dug him out & began to wash him!---poor baby---ho!---he gets cuter by the minute!---love him!
Yep, Diego is getting to be quite a big little fellow! But still cuddly!! Can you imagine being those handlers and vets who get to actually hold him???? I wish!!
Hi Lynn, I am home today, but Fubby has been on 'puter a lot and I'm sending messages out on WHO owns some of the reunion papers I posted on bulletin boards!!!They didn't put their names on backs! I took a pic and numbered the homeless pictures!
Cloudy and cool here & haven't seen a boird in back yard. Gotta get suet.
Hi! Since it is Sunday, why am I at work? You all have been very chatty this morning, so I cannot possibly read everything.
Trying to get things organized for sub tomorrow while I see the docs. I see the orthopedic guy in the morning and the G-I guy in the afternoon. Tried to get all of the reports sent to them and will take x-rays. Made arrangements to pick them up.
Furniture will be delivered on Wednesday! I wanted to be there for the delivery, but Will is going to be off that day. I told them to come late in the day so that maybe I will be home.
Good Morning, Everyone! Finally back here--we ended up spending Saturday night at my sister-in-law's. The house is a tri-level, and it creaks and makes all kinds of weird noises at night, so she hates to be there alone.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JO!!!! Hope it's the best ever! You share a B'day with my oldest granddaughter!
Brother-in-law Joe got to come home from the hospital yesterday afternoon! He is doing really well, and has surprising range of motion in his replaced knee. Thank God! He has oral pain meds to take, so should do well. I think a physical therapist is due to come to the house every other day for a while. Was insanely busy cleaning house and neatening up the yard yesterday! Margy, I'm in worse shape than you, though--I've got 2 bedrooms that have become what I call walk-in closets! Need to rent space at a storage facility. Gotta run now--hafta go to the lab for some routine blood tests, and make a Dr. appt. to discuss the results. Want to talk to her about taking so many meds--about 4 of them give me flaming heartburn! Driving me crazy at this point. Will be back in a little while....
LOL, Jo---I know you saw it last night/this am---but wanted you you to see it again in all its blue glory this am!!!! Loretta....love the homeless phrase! Hope you locate the parents! Hi, Andy-----sure hope the doc can give you relief from that nasty heartburn----he'll probably want to add ANOTHER pill! Shirley, know you will be so glad to get your new furniture Weds.!! Time to get ready to head out. Talk to you all later this afternoon. Jo...where is Dutch Daughter? In Middletown or in Frederick?
I forgot to put this on here last week, but here is a prayer request. One of my new friends here, Annette, found out last week she has MALT lymphoma. Not sure what stage it is in but hopefully it has been found early. I have also become friends with her daughter, Tara. Please put them on this powerful prayer list we have here! Something special always happens through here!
Just a I turnon the raptor program I saw a perigrine attack an eagle that looked as if it had been killed in flight -- sorry, I know it's nature but I can't watch -- turned it off.
Shirley, hope all goes well with the doctors and that you get home in time for the new furniture.
Andy, good luck with the doctors, also. When I was teaching health psyc. pain was indicated as the number one reason people go to a doctor. Just stay well enough to enjoy the family visit. I really, really hope that goes well. Also glad Joe is doing so well.
I think the bear took Mrs. Goose's hat but found out it was just too small, just too big, and not at all just right -- tossed it onto the gound in disgust!
Hi again, I meant to tell you earlier there's a note on the Alcoa site (and a pic) which indicates the fourth egg probably won't hatch this year. But they have 3 healthy looking Peregrine chicks there.
Happy, sleepy Pandas at both sites right now...
There was something else I intended to say, but I've 'spaced it' for now.
Hi, Everyone, I'm back from the lab already, and that was a pleasant surprise! Got a parking place right away, and they weren't at all busy! Now to make a Dr. appt...Thank GOD my indigestion has gone away for now. You gals & guys must've said some prayers about it. If you did, thank you! I'm sure the problem is that the Dr. has me taking a baby aspirin every day (I'm SUPER sensitive to aspirin), AND the Metformin I'm on just tears up my insides. They doubled my dose of that about 4 months ago. I could go on, but I won't. Guess I gotta be tough with the Dr. and see what she can do. Hate to take so many meds--makes me feel like a walking pharmacy! Prayers for Mikala and the rest of the Hooper family, and for Sharon's friend Annette, and her daughter, Tara. Continuing prayers for others in need of them, too. Golly, the weather here today is just fantastic!!! Feels like it might rain, and it's gray and cloudy, and NICE and cool (about 60). I'm in hog heaven!!!
Hope you have a good one yourself, Jim! Is it raining where you are yet? Looks mighty dark in your direction. Got your umbrella? Thanks for the heads up on Alcoa and the pandas. Will check them out. Gotta get some food right now--hungry!! BRB...
Judie, I'll be OK. Just gotta keep Maalox tablets within reach for now. Really getting excited about the kids' visit! They are too. Boy, you had quite a weekend! Hope the school week gives you a bit of a break. Oh--found a tiny little baby lizard on our brick wall out front. He's only about 3" long, tail and all, and his body is smaller around than a pencil! He's really cute. Won't hold still for a picture, though. I'll keep trying. Shirley, That is really great that you're getting your furniture this week! You'll have to take a picture or two. Glad Lolly & family got home OK. Sounds like you had SO much fun! Can't wait to see your pictures. Well, gotta go do some homework for a while. Didn't get much done on the weekend, so gotta catch up. Will check back later. :o]
Compared to the weekend, this has been a really slow day. Tomorrow will be busy. In addition to classes, found out today I am on tap to have pictures taken with the men's basketball team -- will be a hoot -- 5'1" girl versus 7' guys. Hope they put the "thin" lens on the camera. All the athletes are special for me. Voted me their faculty of the year last year. Didn't deserve but much appreciated.
Painters arrived this morning to paint the trim, garage. House was really in need. Now if I can only get Frank to agree to paint the inside -- even more desperately in need.
I already have my dinner inspiration for tonight. A.M. in the P.M. Fluffy scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese, cream biscuits, and I may saute the last green tomatoes.
Saw the groundhog and the turkeys (vultures?)and Diego napping alone. Sure is going to be fun when he starts crawling around.
Oh, will someone let me know about how far away Comfort Inn (Shepherdstown) is from the Clarion?
Judi - I think it is only a hop, skip and a jump away! Megan will probably be better to tell you.... I can only get to the 4-wy stop and they know which way I am going!
Conflicting edits on a BIG ONE #$+#@" I said: I had to put on my woolly socks cause barefoot weather has disappeared. Outside I can smell the wood stoves being fired up! Love that smell.
So it is the house you see when you look out your front door.
Can you post the Eagle pic later in email or on album.
I'll be starting to get ready to go get my crab cakes soon. Yummy! Then this Friday I am getting a Rumsey steak. Yummy! Sat dinner depends on what I each for lunch..... THEN IT SHOULD BE TIME TO DIET
But if you look beyond the house, you can see the mountains. The house is a playhouse that somebody built for their grandkids. It is on a smaller scale.
Definite prayers, Sharon, for Annette and Tara. Is Thelma's house on a hill? Looks like you have a great view of the mountains! Yep, Judie, Comfort Inn is only about 3/4 mi. from The Clarion.

It's never too late to come to Open House, folks. Please come last minute if you can!

Jo must be sleeping in on her special day!!! Maybe too much partying last evening.
Lynne, IMHO, the only good snake is a dead snake! Same w/ spiders--ugh!

I don't like that weather forecast...
Good morning from the winter wonderland. It looks like the snow is winding down from the radar. We got about 3" from my guess. The roads are still warm enough that it didn't stick to them here.
don't worry, 30% chance of showers shouldn't be a problem. It's just so odd that it's so chilly already...it's usually much nicer this time of year.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JO!
Morning Deb, those are the best kind of snows, just enough to make everything look pretty but not so much as to be a problem!
Cool and cloudy here so far....think it's trying to rain...but radar not too promising!
Have Drs. apptmt. this afternoon---and have to pic up my special little contribution to our goodie cups for the weekend!!
Sea eagle at Finland!
Nothing wrong with shooting a poisonous snake, Megan!
and that SE looks real comfortable at the Finland nest
thanks Lynn for putting the tiny url up...no word from Annie
Yep, Paula, especially when it was right by the house.
I never kill a black snake unless it's in the basement and I can't get it out any other way. I run into them in the garden and gh all the time and know they are eating mice and moles, etc. so we tolerate each other. I have learned not to freak out at the sight of one...
Jo isn't sleeping in, she is on FB and looking at her emails. That's right, Jo, you can't hide from me:)
Lynne--just sent you Sat. menu---ignore date, it should say 10-17!!
well, speaking of moles......when we moved in, the front of the house was a mess and they gave us landscaping allowance to fix it up.
WHOA! WHOA!---MEGAN!----I am scared to death of snakes---any kind of snake!!!----I don't mind spiders at all!---I never kill them in the house!---Will go out of my way to let them live!!----
It was chilly and breezy last year, but we did have weak sun. Let's just hope that whatever rain is predicted goes another direction!
I was going to report the same thing Megan, about Jo!
Eagle back at BWO
Sea eagle at Finland gone
If I remember!---I was reading the SNAKE INFO out of a MD newspaper---stating it was illegal to kill the copperhead or rattlesnake in MD!---
I LIVE IN WV!---ho!
Normabyrd, my sister Donna was the same way. She said she was a spider in a former life!
Spiders outsied, ok, inside, no way.
Moles are a real problem, lynn. We have been battling them for years. Traps are the best deterrent, nasty but necessary. Milky spore will eliminate grubs which they eat, but they also eat earthworms, so it's not foolproof.
Hi, back again.
Thank you for the falcon link. Have now made Sheila's acquaintance.
Quiet today. Just reviewing material for remainder of the week so I can be free-as-an-eagle this weekend.
I'll check back later.
Judie
DEB!---Are you beginning to like FAVRE any better!!!!---He had a birthday on 10/10!---Big 40!!
Mason Had a B-Day Too
Did anyone hear that Andrew Lloyd Webber is doing a sequel to Phantom of the Opera that is set at Coney Island....this should be interesting---and probably disappointing!! Can't imagine topping Phantom!
I've tried many mole deterrents, traps are the only truly effective control here.
Thanks, Jo, I can't get the Caring Bridge site to send me those Mason updates anymore lately, I keep signing up, but it isn't working for me.
woo hoo updated for cast for Grantsville....Sat, 42/34 with 40% chance of Rain/Snow Showers
hehehehehe!!! No camping/Shepherdstown here we come if that holds!
Lynn, I would think he must feel like he's got something good going on to attempt a sequel... we'll see!
I was watching DIEGO earlier---BAI had covered him with bamboo!---Then as if she just remembered---she dug him out & began to wash him!---poor baby---ho!---he gets cuter by the minute!---love him!
Judie, did you watch the Raptor show??
Eewwiie at BWO
Can you believe that little Diego is almost 2 feet long already!
There you are, Jo!!!! Thought you would have checked in here first!! Scroll back to Midnight!!!
GOOD MORNING BIRTHDAY GIRL!!
Happy Birthday, Jo!!
and good morning eagle buds.
Not a lovely sight at BWO like Margy's sea eagle----you guessed it--a vulture!
I did a weather check yesterday on Shepherdstown & for Sat. they said high of 60 and chance of showers??!!Things do change in a week.
Yep, Diego is getting to be quite a big little fellow! But still cuddly!! Can you imagine being those handlers and vets who get to actually hold him???? I wish!!
Hi, Loretta---are you at work?
Lynn - you scroll back to a few minutes after midnight! lol
I was waiting for you or Margy! Thanks!

Good morning,

Will be back in a little while....
morning Jim!
Morning Jim and Thanks
Loved you e-card
Mrs Goose lost her pumpkin hat!
Maybe the bear took it
Hi and Bye Andrea!
It's on the ground in front of her....must have blown off
Getting dark in Finland
I see our west coast crew has shown up!
MORNIN' MOVIN'JIM!---I think the blog ate my HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY greeting to you this morning!
Time to find some lunch.
I'll eat light due to going out to dinner this evening to Dutches' Daughter for my luscious crab cakes .
BBILW
LOL, Jo---I know you saw it last night/this am---but wanted you you to see it again in all its blue glory this am!!!!
Loretta....love the homeless phrase! Hope you locate the parents!
Hi, Andy-----sure hope the doc can give you relief from that nasty heartburn----he'll probably want to add ANOTHER pill!
Shirley, know you will be so glad to get your new furniture Weds.!!
Time to get ready to head out. Talk to you all later this afternoon.
Jo...where is Dutch Daughter? In Middletown or in Frederick?
In Frederick, Lynn.
We'll go there one day for lunch!
Thanks for letting us pray for her and daughter.
for sure, Sharon, prayers indeed.
Back for a quick visit.
Happy birthday, Mason.
Okay, back to theories of learning.
Judie
Prayers for Annette and Tara and their friends, old and new.

Putting hat back on Mrs Goose
Judie - the peregrine falcon was trying to keep a red tailed hawk away from its nest. The hawk was just fine.
Now, the rabbit that the eagle caught is another story....
Jo - Have a great birthday dinner at Dutch's!!
Will do! Thanks
Eagle at BWO
Beautiful eagle posing at BWO!
Hi again,
I meant to tell you earlier there's a note on the Alcoa site (and a pic) which indicates the fourth egg probably won't hatch this year. But they have 3 healthy looking Peregrine chicks there.
Happy, sleepy Pandas at both sites right now...
There was something else I intended to say, but I've 'spaced it' for now.
Have a fun, interesting day,
Jim

Hi, Everyone,
I'm back from the lab already, and that was a pleasant surprise!
BRB...
No rain yet, Book. It IS threatening though.
Weather Channel only said there was a 30 % chance today, so I was planning on ignoring it. Hahaha.
Seeing is believing as far as rain goes around here.

WOWSIE WOWSER
What a great Birthday gift to me and all of you special buddies !
STILL CAM IS UP/RUNNING
Judie,
I'll be OK.
Shirley,
That is really great that you're getting your furniture this week!
You'll have to take a picture or two.
Glad Lolly & family got home OK. Sounds like you had SO much fun!
Can't wait to see your pictures.
Well, gotta go do some homework for a while. Didn't get much done on the weekend, so gotta catch up. Will check back later. :o]
Woo hoo, our nest looks great! REally looks tidy...and they have placed more sticks on the right side!
Groundhog at pix
Turkeys ? at snowman cam
And thanks for the alert, Birthday Gal Jo!
Everyone must be taking a panda nap! lol
Nest does look very neat and tidy.
They must have been busy recently.
Sprucing up for Open House.
Cool! Thanks for the heads up, Jo:)
EAGLE ALERT! AND THEN GONE!
Quick visit but I am sure she will be back!
Hi everyone,
Compared to the weekend, this has been a really slow day.
Be back later.
I did get a quick pic before she left!
Sharon - what is that picture?
AND I was talking with someone on email and missed your Eagle Alert!
Judie, it is less than 5 minutes away, not far at all!
Judi - I think it is only a hop, skip and a jump away! Megan will probably be better to tell you.... I can only get to the 4-wy stop and they know which way I am going!
That right! Sharon you stayed there last year!
That picture is the view from the front door!
daylight and rain at Sheila's nest...
Conflicting edits on a BIG ONE #$+#@"
I said:
I had to put on my woolly socks cause barefoot weather has disappeared.
THEN IT SHOULD BE TIME TO
DIET
At least Sheila is much more protected from the weather then Freida ever was on that ledge!
LIB IN THE NEST

But if you look beyond the house, you can see the mountains. The house is a playhouse that somebody built for their grandkids. It is on a smaller scale.
The house sure fooled me
