So the silly little eaglet is still up in the tree somewhere...

Well Come On Over with your comments!
I didn't expect to be the #401
You all are too fast for this ole' Mema

Mema Jo said...

Megan We sorta think it is Hidey up at the cam making all the knocking noises!

floralgirl said...

Sure sounds like it. Either that or Boris has gotten huge!

Costume Lady said...

As you all know, Hidey is a NIGHT OWL. Belle and Lib have probably been asleep for a few hours now. I feel in my bones that is Hidey gropping around on the camera, trying to figure out how to get down. Remember, it is dark...Hidey cannot see the infrared light. He'll probably roost up there all night and we will see him in the morning:)

Costume Lady said...

I hope that while Hidey is groping around up there, that he finds Boris and has him for a snack!

glo said...

Yes I am still here....in and out back and forth...trying to find the cure for what ails us. I have special company coming tomorrow. They will not have any symptoms of bird flew but the littlest one is going to play with and see many stuffed eagles and have her first story read to her by Grandma about a baby eagle so she can get off on the right foot lOL.

I recall the fledgings of 2006 and 2008. I can't say that the waiting to see they made it back to the nest. Was any better knowing it would happen. Just a matter of when. We seem to be just as we are called even with the knowledge we have gained " Eaglet_Momsters ". We wait to see as you do for when we can see our eaglet again.

PA Nana said...

Hi everyone. I'm really late in letting you know I've been following this eaglet for weeks and I also have "bird flew." What a cute phrase. I'm constantly watching this eaglet, the Harrisburg falcons, the Philly Hawks, and the NJ eaglets. I'm wondering what happens when they're all fledged? What am I going to do? I've enjoyed reading your comments.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Welcome PA Nana. We are glad you are here. The fledgling hopefully will be in and out for a month or so. There are cams everywhere to watch but this is the one I watch all the time and have been since 2006.

fauxfaye said...

To tamp down my bird flew symptoms I now have put up a split screen to watch a live feed of a hummingbird chick in a rosebush in California. Adorable. Hee. Tomorrow will check on the three eaglets in a nest on Duke Farms in NJ. They aren't as old as Hidey so will be there a little longer.

deb said...

It helps to know that the men Wanda talked to this morning say Hidey moving around. If it hadn't been for that one little reassurance, we would all be a little worried as to where she was.

fauxfaye said...

But I am most attached to this little family for some reason.

deb said...

That is supposed to be saw, not say.

Mema Jo said...

Hello PA NANA - Last season after we thought we were done for - We kept this blog going full strength. It may have been small talk at times - but what a bonding we have made! You stick with us and your fall & winter will go quite enjoyable! Promise!

Bibee said...

Good Night All! I am going to watch a little tv with the hubby and the animals! I sure wish Hidey would come home. I will check with everyone in the morning. Sweet Eaglet Dreams to All!

deb said...

I am going to read for a while. Night everyone!

Mema Jo said...

Nite Bibee! We all sure have a reason to 'hit the deck' as soon as our eyes open tomorrow morning!

Lori O. said...

I can be a witness as to how wonderful these Eaglet Momsters/blogsters are!

Tammy said...

You know, about a week and a half ago I started weening myself off of watching Hidey because I knew this time was coming and I didn't want it to bother me. Then last night I stopped in and watched Hidey for a couple of hours. She/he was so darn cute jumping around and flapping it's wings. I fell in love with Hidey all over again. Stopped watching last night when Hidey curled up in the middle of the nest to go to sleep. Came back in this morning to "check" on him/her and.... no Hidey. It's been a literal privilege getting the chance to watch Hidey grow and mature.

I look forward to the next round of eaglets born to Liberty and Belle.

Lori O. said...

duh, took me a while to figure out there was a new thread.

Hello Deb, Jo, and welcome PA Nana!

wvgal_dana said...

For you who are new there is 1 thing that we older in time watching. Have not had and that is; when Hidey comes back to the nest. You will know it is Hidey ( :
We in 2006 and 2008 had 3 eaglets to watch for to come back to the nest. Trying to figure out which was which. To make sure we got to see all three back home. You will only have 1----Hidey.

Mema Jo said...

Dana I remember that we were never really certain about their return UNTIL all 3 were in the nest at one time! lol what memories!

wvgal_dana said...

Yep Mema Jo you are certainly right. That is why I say in a way this season is easier for the new people watching.

Mema Jo said...

It is probably just as traumatic waiting for one to return as it was waiting for all 3 to return - just shouldn't take as long!

Mema Jo said...

It is time to get on my perch and get some shut eye. I will check out the nest very first time my eyes open - be it 3am or 6am or 9am! I am going to bed with the positive thoughts of going to Market and getting some peonies from Megan!

Good Night All!

movin said...

Oh yeah, I can definitely hear Hidey banging on the camera ass'y, now that I read your comments, turned my radio down and the speaker volume up. It's kind of reassuring to know he's close by and alive.

Anybody know if he fledged or branched ... or maybe both??

It's very funny he couldn't get back down into the nest if he had flown any distance already.....

i just heard a little whimpery chirp! anybody else hear that?

fauxfaye said...

I heard it. Or something. I know someone is sitting on top of the camera, just not sure who...

ltl said...

it may be true that the old folks have sat up there & all, but would one of them be knockin' away all this time in the same spot? to me that smacks of somebody too chicken to jump down.

i acknowledge a possible element of wishful thinking in there.

ltl said...

okay i definitely just heard a chirpy whimper, or a whimpery chirp. and the knocking continues.

movin said...

nObody in the nest, knocking or banging on the camera equipment goes on, and I heard what sounds something like a cat "meow" in the distance .. repeated several times.

I was watching Pete's Pond again, and there is a nearly mature African Fish eagle in the shallows standing on and feeding on the tail of that Nile Monitor, which the Otter killed several days ago.

They look kinda similar to the Bald Eagle, but they have more white, and they're smaller and lighter.

No noise right now from nest cam

wvgal_dana said...

Morning Jo did you just hear that!

Mema Jo said...

Good Morning Dana! I sure think Hidey is still up by the cam.

wvgal_dana said...

Waiting on one to return true is just as bad as waiting on 3. Yet when the 1 hits the nest we won't have to wait on 2 more. That 1 will be Hidey.

wvgal_dana said...

Jo I don't think he/she ever fledged. I think Hidey has been up there the whole time somewhere in tree and on top or near cam.

Do you know if anyone has checked around the base of the tree?

I know two farmers thought they saw Hidey flying and that CostumeLady checked out the tree from closeby, but is there anyone that has checked the ground below that tree? Is there anyone who can?

Anyway, prayers we see something today. Later all... have a good morning.

It's a beautiful morning after those showers Megan mentioned earlier, the nest is empty, except for food leftovers, and it could use a good housekeeping ! Maybe the adults need to MAKE THE BED for Hidey ! ☺

Good Morning Eagle People.... ☼

Megan Hope you are doing okay this morning after your fall, and that Market goes well today too.
Mema - you have a good time in Shepherdstown too, will be watching for any Nest Comments !

Karen said...

Good morning. I have so enjoyed your comments and watching Hidey grow. This is my first time observing an eaglet and family. I was so sad when Hidey was not in the nest yesterday. I worried all evening. It gave me a bit of hope to know some of you think you heard her. I certainly am wishing for the best. What a wonder to have witnessed.

magpie said...

Just watched a real nice fish delivery at Loch Garten, then both adults were doing defensive "this is our nest" postures, saw another bird flying around, then Odin (the male) took off soaring, now Mom is feeding her three chicks. Guess Odin is out protecting his Home Territory

Loch Garten is an Osprey nest with three chicks in Scotland, their time is five hours ahead of us.

Hi Wanda ! and Laura and everyone else !

Laura said...

Laura said...

I have been watching some other nests in BC but I have especially enjoyed watching this one.

Costume Lady said...

TAMMY...we are not allowed to go under the tree. When I went there, yesterday morning, that was orders from the guard..."don't go under the tree".

Laura said...

Just looked at the Lock Garten nest. how cool is that.

Costume Lady said...

Margy, I hope those storms were in the night and not during THE FISHERMEN'S fun time.

Stevie from Kentucky said...

My bluebirds fledged yesterday. I sure hope they weathered the bad storms that went through our area last night!

Tammy said...

CostumeLady...

I remember seeing you say that yesterday. But is there anyone who is allowed and could look under that tree? In my opinion this is a special circumstance. Maybe the guard could go check?

I don't mean to be troublesome here but I really think someone should check. It's been 24 hours.

Costume Lady said...

Tammy, tomorrow, when the offices and buildings are open, there will be plenty of people looking to spot Hidey. And, yes, if necessary, they can go under the tree.

magpie said...

Wanda...
The storms were close to midnight and in the middle of the night. I will say that there was a lightning strike between Elkins and Seneca Rocks so if communications with the fishermen are out, it could be cell towers were affected.

magpie said...

It's past my bedtime...will get up in time to read all the Nest News before work tonight.

I posted my Megan Flowers on my Magpie's Roost link...hope you all enjoy them as much as I do !

Good Night, Good Day Wishes to Everyone!

Prayers, for all in need....
God Bless Us, Every One..xoxo ♥

Joy said...

Stevie,

I have bluebird nest boxes in my yard and yes, there are hijackers out there who will use them as well. Current recommendations that I have seen include removing the old nesting material after the bluebirds fledge and washing out the inside of the box (I use a very dilute clorox mixture and then I leave the box open to air for about a day). I am on my second round of bluebirds this summer and this group sounds like they should be ready to fledge soon. The parents never really got too far from the nest, even when it was empty and they continued to scare off invaders even though it was not currently being used. They began rebuilding the nest within a very few days of my cleaning the old out. They say they will reuse even if you don't clean it out, but they rebuild another nest on top of the old and don't actually use the old nest. Seems to me that getting all that old stuff and bacteria out is a good thing. They are not as neat with where they leave their poop as our eaglet was! Hope that helps.

Stevie from Kentucky said...

Thanks Joy!! I might try cleaning out the nest if it means drawing my bluebirds back!! I like the swallows but I like my bluebirds better! LOL.

deb said...

I have also heard that you can put up another box in the yard and the Bluebirds and Swallows will share the nesting area, each in their own box. They do that here a lot. Out in the Hills there are usually two boxes within 15-25 feet of each other. Bluebirds and Swallows everywhere.

Costume Lady said...

Hooray for the FLICKERS! BOO to the starlings:(

Mits said...

good morning Ceil:)

deb said...

Happy Birthday, Jim. Hope you have a wonderful day!

Costume Lady said...

My Mother has a lot of trouble with the sparrows claiming the bluebird boxes...they even killed the bluebirds one year and poked holes in the eggs another year. The bluebirds have not visited her yard at all this year. I guess they have HAD ENOUGH AND ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!

Safire said...
