BUMMER! The thermometer here says 34.7 at my house, 39 at the Mercer County Airport. It is too late in the year for this!!!!

Good, Deb! Look forward to your photos:)

DANA!---SATURDAY----I saw the MAMA EAGLE feeding her EAGLET at the OREGON SITE!!---CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?---The pic is grainy--but it was a beautiful thing to see!!!

floralgirl said...

Hello all:)
All is fine here, tender plants in garden are all covered with floating row cover, and I'm just leaving it on today cause tonite looks to be in the 30's and clear, and possibly tomorrow nite too. Stayed somewhat cloudy here last nite so we dodged the bullet.
Mondays are rough, I move like a turtle, I am exhausted and could use about 3 more hours sleep. Kid is home not feeling well, and I gotta get out and water the GH, peonies need to be picked, and sunflower seeds need to be sown. at least the sun is shining, wish the wind would stop.

wvgal_dana said...

Sorry your so tired Megan. Glad you checked in and your plants and flowers made it ok.

wvgal_dana said...

Feeding at Kentucky of 2 chicks with 1 egg still left to hatch.

deb said...

That is good to hear, Megan. It is too bad you can't take Monday's off to rejuvinate, but I know that isn't possible.

deb said...

floralgirl said...

Hey Norma, might not wanna be here on Mondays, that's 'fish emulsion day' in the GH- it's gonna reek out there. I'm off to fertilize and hope I don't get it all over me, which I usually do, then the dog follows me around til I change my clothes. Have a great day all:)

movin said...

Yes, Magpie. After you all mentioned it, I read a little on it in the Yahoo news...

3.1 they said, which is moderate, but if they are close enough or there are no mountains in the way, you can definitely feel a 3.1 quake.

Thanks for you all being concerned.

There are 85 subscribers though and I had been wondering why not much if any response from Bloggers over here. It was brought to my attention yesterday (((((Dana))))) that some of you that I think are gettign the feed are not getting it for whatever reason.

There is a photo on there right now that I really think you all would love to see so I came over to send an invite to take a peak at some point. Its not my photo. But I bet you will enjoy it...

I can't do the fancy stuff but here is the address you can cut and paste. He has 4-5 panda cams on this page, i is pretty good!

Mits said...

also please remember, Mei will do the exact same things, nesting, licking, cradling, even if she is NOT pregnant...so it is what it is til we have a positive outcome or they see something on a ultra-sound, which I'm thinking she has not had in a few weeks

Mema Jo said...

Great - up there you are!

I'm still waiting for news from my bosses

Mema Jo said...

We were hoping that you may have heard some news. With no exam I guess they are as baffled as we viewers are.

Mits said...

for sure, even the experts cannot predict with certainty

normabyrd said...

MITS---Didn't we SEE TAI being born----Just shot out & scared us all!---

Mema Jo said...

OK! Time to sneak away and get dressed for the day and find some lunch!

BRB

Mits said...

btw, the licking of the nether regions has to go on for about 15 to 20 mins....for them to be called if we are on a night watch....

Mits said...

at the time that Tai was born, whether it was live I don't remember, but there was video of the birth....Animal Planet had bought the rights to his birth, they are no longing affiliated with NZ, so if there is a birth the zoo wants the exclusive rights for raising money for conservation of giant pandas, they don't want the live event all over you-tube and other places.

Mits said...

my question to my cam boss was how do we know when to turn the cam off, and he says someone else does it, not sure who, but I agree with the zoo, they need to constantly raise money for the care and conservation of all the animals they are trying to save from extinction

normabyrd said...

MITS---Haven't heard how MM is today!----Did CEIL call the Dr?

Gabriela said...

OMG!!! Hidey just soared for a moment over her nest!!! and then she looked at the camera as if to say "Did you see THAT?!"

Mema Jo said...

BBILW

Gabriela said...

Sorry, what's "BBILW"?

ANd why does Hidey mantle when the parent comes to the nest? It almost seems like she's afraid or protecting her space?

magpie said...

Gabriela - that would be
Be Back In a Little While

like TTFN is Ta Ta For Now

GME is Good Morning Everyone

magpie said...

BBL is be back later
MTBR is More to Be Revealed
JMHO is Just My Humble Opinion
BBL - is just plain Be Back Later

magpie said...

ROFLMBO is -
Rolled on Floor Laughed My Butt Off...

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Gabriela, I will try to answer your questions. BBILW is be back in a little while.

Eaglets learn to snatch the food from the parent when they bring it to the nest, then they mantle over it to protect it before eating it.

magpie said...

Prayers for John-John and all the family Ga Girl.....

thanks for bringing us into the Prayer Chain!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

And what a powerful prayer chain on this blog! :)

magpie said...

Time for a Panda Nap...catch on the sleep I missed during Ms Bookworm's Earthquake reports early this morning, so here is my favorite abbreviation:

xoxoxo - which of course, is kisses and hugs ! ♥ ☺

Gabriela said...

LOL! You'd think working for the gov't I would be up on acronyms! Thanks for the definitions and for the lesson on eaglet manners! I'm going to miss Hidey when she finally does fledge!

Have a lovely rest of the afternoon all!

magpie said...

Hey there Double E-S -

which of course is Eagle-Eyed Sharon ! ☺ xo ♥

magpie said...

..and "pulling a Margy" means saying good-bye, coming back, signing off again, and coming back.....you get it....

TTFN ☺

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Hi Margy. Gabriela, this is all a learning process. Some us have been here since 2006 so when we started we had to learn everything from each other. I have learned so much over the last 4 eaglet seasons.

magpie said...

Oh yeah, I thought LOL was Lots of Love, but then someone had to tell me it means Laugh a Lot..or maybe it is Lots of Laughs......
then there is LAWL - which is Laughs a Whole Lot.

See? I wrote the book on Pulling a Margy, and Ceil is my co-author!

'Night ! Really !

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

LOL means laugh out loud unless it is Mema Jo and hers means lots of love.

Gabriela said...

Can anybody see what Hidey is eating? I don't think it's fish but between the shade and the smudge i can't tell...

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I can't tell what it is, probably a mammal of some kind!

Gabriela said...

Hidey is way more fun today than my work! Hee, hee. And LOL is laugh out loud for me but I always laugh with a lot of love! :-)

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Gabriela, where do you live? You have probably told us but I can't remember (CRS disease)!

Gabriela said...

yes, i think mammal because her beak seems bloodied. Whatever it is she sure is enjoying it!

Gabriela said...

Sharon, I live in Tallahassee, FL.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

One time I was watching the nest (when we had 3 babies in it). Saw something moving in the nest and they had brought a turtle to the nest and of course it had gone into its shell. I guess when the turtle thought it was safe, it came back out of the shell. It was not a pretty site. Imagine being a turle and coming out of the shell, looking around and your butt is laying in an eagle's nest. Not much hope there! :)

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

The company I work for is based at Jacksonville. That is on the other coast from you, right?

Gabriela said...

Correct, I'm pretty much half-way between Pensacola & Jacksonville. The Gulf Coast is only 1/2 hr away.

Gabriela said...

There's mom (or dad) showing Hidey how to get the last bits of food from the carcass!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

The parents' instinct to know when to stop feeding and when to start dropping food in the nest so the eaglet can learn, this stuff just blows my mind! The big stick was brought in for talon strengthening exercises. How do they know this stuff? They don't even have a checklist to look at! :)

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

My indigo bunting was out here again yestesrday but I haven't seen him today. I feed birds on my roof right outside of my window where I work. Looked out there yesterday and saw a really strange bird - in the form of a chipmunk. Climbed up the holly tree and jumped right onto the roof.

Gabriela said...

if that chipmunk is not careful he might end up being eagle take-away! I had a red-shouldered hawk in my yard yesterday and as i watched from my sunroom i saw him/her swoop down on something in my irises - either a small mammal or baby bird and fly off with it - a pair of bluejays squawking and divebombing all the way!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I have had hawks here too. They use my birdfeeders as bait boxes. I chase them off when I see them. I know they have to eat too but they can do it at somebody else's house! :) I have crows in a tree out here and the grackles have been all over them, chasing them away.

GA-GIRL said...

My daughter( John-John grandmother) works for a company (works from home) based out of Tallahassee too.. small world

GA-GIRL said...

My daughter works for a medical supply co out of Tallahassee. I tell everyone that she sells body bags.. that is her biggest seller. I have gone to coroners conventions with her before. I also work for a Hospital

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Coroner's conventions - hmmmm - could be interesting I guess but doesn't it bore you to "death"? :)

Timed it right when signing on this am-- got to see Hidey being fed something furry (eew!). Hedgie, thanks for the link to the baby elephant! Just adorable! Costume Lady, I tend to agree with you, tho, that the other baby elephant was getting way too close to the new one.

I type pathology reports but I have only gotten to type 1 autopsy. Very interesting! We went to the gross anatomy lab while I was in transcription school and that was really interesting.

GA-Girl, I know from personal experience how powerful the prayers from this blog are. I have been through a lot since joining this blog and these people are so wonderful. I am so grateful to have been blessed with the friends I have here.

yep. the conventions are.. she has to be there for a couple hours in the morning, noon, and then close.. but it is the places she goes that I like.. out of state. I always go for the sites. and when it is just us two.. we have a really good time. although Lisa has met some really interesting people.. like Dr Lee

Oh, wow, how cool is that. I am really glad I don't have to type Dr. Lee's dictation though becuase he does not speak very plain English! :)

That is good news about John-John! Sounds like things can all be fixed or at least kept in tact! I know what you mean about "Smile on his face no matter what" Must be for sure a little angel.

Hi All!

I am watching our very intelligent panda MEI! She was able to get that very very long piece of Bamboo through the door and into the birthing den. Amazing!

Hidey is resting up at the noon position in the nest.
Windy! Sound is good.

GA Girl, have been through croup and three hospital stays with my grandsons. So, know what you all are going through. Prayers for John John. They do grow out of the tendency to get croup about the age 4.

GA-GIRL said...

THANKS LOLLY. when my kids were small. people would say.. sounds like they have the croup.. I guess I never hear of people really having the croup. I have worked in the hospital for 20 years.. jeez..growing out of it really sounds incouraging.. thanks again

Gee whiz! You guys should hear what's going on in our big ficus trees! Sounds like a Pterodactyl convention! (It's the black-crowned night herons feeding their babies!) No wonder I can't sleep right! Heard the Goshawks calling to each other earlier this morning, too. Before I forget, thanks, Glo, for the 'visitor in the nest' picture. It's really quite a 'keeper'!

Today is the BIG patio clean. Have been waiting for the tile to dry. Now it is time to get back out there!

Guess I have missed my 3:00 cup of coffee - I'll just call it a 3:15 and I bet it tastes just the same.

The Wild Watch site that has the herons nest on it - I watched 3 eggs hatch last year! Those babies turn out to be quite the long legged big winged little (?) ones!
