The little guy just sat up, turn over on his side, rubbed his eyes and back to the good old panda nap!

Watching Mrs Hummer on her nest
My hummer was here one day a week or so ago - Has not yet returned.
After the frost warning my hanging planters will go out and my flower pots will be filled with their goodies. Sure hope they come back!

Mema Jo said...

Whoa! Had an email from the Friends of the National Zoo - Jumped on it but it's not about
Mei our panda. I really had hoped it would be info - but it's not.

Mits said...

Jo, employees and volunteers get the news first, and then the public, and we cannot reveal news til it goes on the panda page are comes thru on the Fonz newsletter....

Mits said...

so there has been no news from zoo yet today, about Mei

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I think our Hidey is having a good old time in the nest, just jumping and chirping!

hedgie said...

Hi all! Caught up on blog!
So glad to hear that John-John is doing better. Croup is one of those nightmarish things....so scary. My youngest had it one time (I was working ER at that time, so had seen enough of it to know what it was and what to do)....we made it through the night with no aftereffects for her, but I sure was dragged out!
Andrea, now they are saying quake was a 4.7...hey, was it along the San ANDREAs Fault??? LOL!

Mema Jo said...

Thanks Mits - I did really jump! lol

Hidey is getting to look more like a Juvie each passing day!

hedgie said...

Got my FONZ newsletter, too....Can't believe that the clouded leopards are 8 wks. old already!!
Does the cover on the birthing table look wet??? Look at that position!!! What a card she is!

Mits said...

I didn't think it looked wet, Lynn, but cam followed her to the outer den....

hedgie said...

Well, back out of the den...look at the way her tail is twitching...wonder if that means anything?!?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

If she shoots a baby out in that position, it will really be squalling when it hits the floor!

hedgie said...

Guess that must have been the other cam...because seconds later, cam showed her back on the table.

GA-GIRL said...

THANKS EVERYONE FOR ALL OF YOUR KIND WORDS AND WELL WISHES, AND MOSTLY YOUR PRAYERS. HAVENT HEARD ANYTHING ELSE FROM THE HOSPITAL YET. IT IS TIME FOR ME TO HEAD ON OUT. THANKS AGAIN.. YOU ALL ARE THE GREATEST!!!!!!!! SEE YOU IN THE AM.....

hedgie said...

Mits....black thing...kong toy??

Mits said...

she was going to the bathroom Lynn. Lift the flap and let it go.

Mits said...

yes, kong toy.

wvgal_dana said...

Mei sure has been in a lot of positions today and not resting for long.

wvgal_dana said...

Good news about little John John keep on praying though.

That was cute Lynn San Andreas fault hee hee good one.

wvgal_dana said...

Mail arrival and haven't read newspaper for the morning. I am behind again. Catch up....go back...catch up....go back lol

Mema Jo said...

It is hard to stay ahead of things!

I need to go clean some dishes or might be paper plates tonight!
Don't even know yet what I am putting on the plates......talk about staying ahead of things. Oh well, it isn't 5:00 yet!!!!
What a life when you retire... None
of the above worries me one bit!

Mema Jo said...

I will BBL

hedgie said...

I like the surprise catch-ups...dog just wanted to go out on deck for a little warm sunshine...doorhandle almost fell off in my hand!!! Have to remember that screws need to be tightened periodically...duh!

Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, Lynn,
Yes, indeed, I DO get blamed for a lot of shaking out here! LOL :o] Guess it's all my FAULT (get it? HA!);oD

Ms Bookworm said...

Lynn, you're absolutely correct-- first breaking news reports last night said quake was a 5.0; later they downgraded it to a 4.7.

Ms Bookworm said...

Well, you guys, I'm awake NOW!!! We have a guy who lives down our street who's a police detective (he drives an all black car). He must have just gotten a call from headquarters, because just as he got even with the window I'm sitting by, he turned on his siren and screeched outa here! (Think I'd better go check my drawers!) He nearly scared the life out of me! Prayers for THAT situation!

hedgie said...

Ha, ha, Andrea....got it! Think Jim said this morning 3.something....so it was a bit stronger!! Anyway you look at it, it was too much....sure glad that we don't have to worry about quakes (not much, anyway....we really do get a lot along the Atlantic Seaboard area, but they are SO minimal that no one knows about them except the seismologists!

hedgie said...

Just got the Pet Cemetery surrounded by pretty little green wickets....mulcher man had done the area in shape of a heart...looked pretty, but something was already digging in the mulch...so maybe wickets will keep the moles/voles or whatever it is out!

Mema Jo said...

Hedgie - The varmints probably come from the 'ground up'.

magpie said...

Mema Jo said...

My Panda cams at DC are off ?????
Last I saw Mei was just sleeping
on her birthing bed.....

Anyone else have their cams off?

Mema Jo said...

Anyone Out there in Eagle Land watching the DC Panda cam?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Trying to connect now, Jo. Hang on.

Mema Jo said...

Well until I get some DC Fonz information aboput MEI I wish our Hidey would just stay off the edge and quit flapping and flapping those beautiful wings!!!!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Can't get either one of them up.

Mema Jo said...

I'm going to email Mits!

hedgie said...

Nope, no panda cam here........whoo hoo, Jo!!! Maybe our wishes are coming true.
NOW, someone please tell me what is going on in our nest! I can't make it out.

Mits said...

mine went off too, tried rebooting still down...will email my contacts...not that they will tell me anything, last I looked she was lying on the bed

hedgie said...

Shadows are bad....is Hidey at 3?
Jo, holes in mulch don't seem to go anywhere!!! I never thought about that when I said moles/voles...Ha, ha! It's probably squirrels or chipmunks digging to find or hide goodies!

Mema Jo said...

LOL I had to look at Hidey's feet to tell in which direction he was standing!

Guess Hidey is at 2:00 and looking over shoulder or preening those downy feathers away.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Hidey is at 2-3 o'clock position, Lynn. Just perched and preening a little bit.

Mits said...

I emailed my bosses.....this would be so sudden, but this did happen last year and it was a fluke, she was so quiet.MTBR

Mema Jo said...

Eating dinner now -

BBILW

Mits said...

I remember when the cams went off last year, and they had to come on and explain there was some kind of work that was being done.....cam people do not have the ability to shut them down

Mits said...

my heart and head are pounding....while I was watching earlier, was trying to see if her stomach was doing any kind of contractions, but cam person was not getting a closeup.....especially after Lynn thought she saw some water on the bed.

Mits said...

hope this is not a false alarm, and it is the real deal.....

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Oh, me too Mits!

wvgal_dana said...

Checking back while din din in oven.
Yes my DC cams went black...when I stopped by she was asleep. Next I stopped all black out.

Mits said...

BTW, I am happy to announce that come October the M&M girls will have a little brother named Ben to join their family:):):)

wvgal_dana said...

Oh Boy a boy ( : Hi Ben in Mommies tummy.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Mits said...

as fast as it went off, I'm thinking some kind of tech problem, think we would have heard something

hedgie said...

OK, sun has shifted...can see Hidey plainly now!
Hope you can get some info, Helen!

Mits said...

:):) yes, Benjamin Patrick:)

Mits said...

don't know where the Ben came from, it has been the boy's name all along.....Patrick is Kevin's confirmation name.....so Maggie will be 3, and Molly will be 2,and baby Patrick, and maybe a rest for a while before they decide if they are going to have more:)

hedgie said...

Benjamin....great name! And I'm sure that Kevin is tickled to death! Congrats to all the Kalis family!

wvgal_dana said...

glo said...

Well I see its labor and delivery here once again. One due any time and one in October...congrats to Mits.

anyway stopped in as I had a cute story sent to me today and wanted to share.

Its a little long but pretty cute for those of you who have time for a short read. here it is.

Two sisters, one blonde and one brunette, inherit the family ranch.
Unfortunately, after just a few years, they are in financial trouble. In
order to keep the bank from repossessing the ranch, they need to
purchase a bull so that they can breed their own stock.

Upon leaving, the brunette tells her sister, 'When I get there, if I
decide to buy the bull, I'll contact you to drive out after me and haul
it home.'

The brunette arrives at the man's ranch, inspects the bull, and decides
she wants to buy it. The man tells her that he will sell it for $599, no
less. After paying him, she drives to the nearest town to send her
sister a telegram to tell her the news. She walks into the telegraph
office, and says, 'I want to send a telegram to my sister telling her
that I've bought a bull for our ranch. I need her to hitch the trailer
to our pickup truck and drive out here so we can haul it home.'

The telegraph operator explains that he'll be glad to help her, then
adds, it will cost 99 cents a word.' Well, after paying for the bull,
the brunette realizes that she'll only be able to send her sister one
word.

After a few minutes of thinking, she nods and says, 'I want you to send
her the word 'comfortable.'

The operator shakes his head. 'How is she ever going to know that you
want her to hitch the trailer to your pickup truck and drive out here to
haul that bull back to your ranch if you send her just the word
'comfortable?'

The brunette explains, 'My sister's blonde. The word is big. She'll read
it very slowly...... 'com-for-da-bul.'

LOL as is true for so much of life "For those who understand ... no explanation is needed.

For those who do not understand ... no explanation is possible!"

Enjoy your evening

hedgie said...

Oh, Glo, that is priceless!!! ROFLMBO!!

Mits said...

thanks, Glo.....love the story.....lol

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Very good, Glo!

Mits said...

still no word from zoo:(

Mits said...

of course, if there is a cub, they are a tad busy....and my contacts have probably already gone home for the day

hedgie said...

Can't believe that after eating lunch out, I am hungry already! Have a hankering for French fries w/ cheese!! I think it's Mei's fault....she has me on edge....

Mits said...

thanks, Lynn, he is tickled blue:)

Mits said...

me too, Lynn, after the last 2 years, I have not let myself get excited at all this time, but am anxious to find out what is going on, sure we will here something sometime...

Mits said...

I have the local news on, just in case they hear something

Mema Jo said...

I guess we should concentrate on Hidey
Almost did a nose dive out of the nest at 2:00

It could very well be Tech difficulty at Zoo Cams. I hope that isn't all it is but don't want to get any anxiety attack pondering over what it could be!

hedgie said...

Awww....4 ducklings went down a sewer drain in DC...mama was wailing...passersby rescued all the little ones and animal control relocated the family to a safer location!

Mits said...

I think I am hyperventilating...lol

hedgie said...

Sure don't understand why I have to log in here again just because I opened blog on PC...still have it up on netbook...duh!

ceil said...

Good evening all. GA girl know you are not here but prayers for the little one that he will be well soon.
Lynn MM says thank you for the card. We picked up her mail on Saturday. Wish the cat would stay here. Her neighbor is taking care of her.
Jo, Margy and Wanda she got your cards also.
Lynn the poor ducks fall down the drains around here all the time.

hedgie said...

Ha, ha, Mits made a punny out of my goof! As I was saying, bet Kevin is tickled BLUE!!!

Mema Jo said...

I don't have a clue about that Lynn.
Good story about the ducklings!

I liked the story Glo! Pretty good thinking!

ceil said...

Lynn some of them are. One time the mother duck was jumping up and down and a car ran over her. We have some idiots. Ask Sharon. We did get rid of one of them.

Mits said...

have contacted some of my voulnteer buddies, but don't think they watch the cam like I do.

Mema Jo said...

Hi Ceil and Mary Margaret!
Good to have you here!

Mema Jo said...

It is starting to chill down outside
Feel and looks like a Fall evening.

Mits said...

cams have been down for over an hour...

Jo MM is downstairs. She will not come upstairs. My computer is upstairs. We have very steep steps.

Mits said...

what a story....

Man calls 911 over 28-year-old son's messy bedroom
Seconds ago

BEDFORD, Ohio — An Ohio man who argued with his grown son over a messy bedroom said he overreacted when he called 911. Andrew Mizsak called authorities Thursday after his 28-year-old son — who's a school board member in the Cleveland suburb of Bedford — threw a plate of food across the kitchen table and made a fist at him when told to clean his room.

The son, also named Andrew, lives in a room in his parents' basement.

The father declined to press charges and told police he doesn't want to ruin his son's political career.

The son, who also works as a political consultant, said he's lucky to be living in the house rent free. He also promises to keep his room clean.

hedgie said...

Speaking of baby clothes....saw the cutest little pair of toddler clogs at CVS last week....but sure wouldn't put a stumbling little one in them...too dangerous!

hedgie said...

NOT CLOGS....meant to say CROCS!

ceil said...

Know what you meant Lynn.

Mits said...

you will probably win, Ceil, I will be the one falling down.

ceil said...

Yep. I will let you get the fire engine. Don't want to see you falling.

Mits said...

Female giant pandas give birth between 95 and 160 days after mating.

it has been 121 days since her AI

Mema Jo said...

Helicopter going over the nest

Mema Jo said...

Mits - I hope we don't need to wait another month plus a few days to get that cub!!!

Costume Lady said...

IT'S A BOY!! Ceil and Helen, I just might beat you both to that Firetruck. I know exactly where they are in the store after 2 grandsons. Gene bought one for our grandaughter (we still have it, 23 years later) It is named "My Ding-a-Ling". She was born when that song was popular:)

ceil said...

Wanda that is funny.

Costume Lady said...

Hidey was completely oblivious to that helecoptor. Getting use to those strange noises, I guess.

Mits said...

lol...Wanda, I asked my dil if she could she it was a boy, and she said she thought she was looking at his arm....told her that is why she keeps getting pregnant, does not know the difference

ceil said...

I think Helen should run over to the zoo and see what is happening.

Costume Lady said...

Ceil, I got MM pictures today. Will post them later this evening to albums.

Costume Lady said...

Ceil, that is a GOOD idea!!

paula eagleholic said...

Evening, all.

Had my own little bird tragedy this evening. Baby robin either fell out of the nest or tried to fly to soon...hopped halfway across the backyard before the dog spotted him...unfortunately the dog saw him before I did...picked him up....but did drop him. Got the dogs inside and went back out to check on him...seemed OK. So I put him in the side yard and went inside to get the ladder to put him back in the nest. When I went out to get him, he had died. :(

Can't always save them once the dogs have picked them up...they just want to play with them, but they are too rough when they pick it up. Can't blame the dogs, they are just doing what comes naturally, they are retrievers.

Costume Lady said...

Oh, Helen, ROFLMBO!!!!!

Mits said...

dogs will be dogs, Paula...

Mits said...

they would not let me in even if I went.....

ceil said...

Paula my dalmatian would go after the birds and once in awhile she would get one. You did the best you could as always.

ceil said...

Wanda the two of us running would be a sight.

paula eagleholic said...

Oh, Mits, a grandson! Congrats.

Hidey GET BACK UP IN THE NEST

Mits said...

:):), thanks Paula.

Mits said...

Hidey is one fearless eagle.

Mits said...

should have had jubby bring in dinner....

Mits said...

just going to have burgers on the grill

paula eagleholic said...

LOL, Margy :):):)

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

You know, it is really cruel and unusual punishment to leave us hanging this long. At least they could put on the web page if there are technical difficulties.

Costume Lady said...

Sharon, you are absolutly right. You come up with the best suggestions...You should run for WV Govenor. Maybe you would get some good rules in place. LOL

paula eagleholic said...

GA Girl - glad little John John will be OK.

That's what my youngest called his older brother when he was little. :)

Costume Lady said...

GOVERNOR FARLEY...has a nice ring to it!

Mits said...

my only thought on that is either everyone is busy or maybe something is wrong, which I hope is not the case, or it is a tech problem, and they have no way to let us know.

Mits said...

sounds good, Wanda

Costume Lady said...

Hidey is not even on the edge...he is on the outside of the edge. Daredevil!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

OMG - that would be something to behold! Me as governor -- ROFLMAO OVER AND OVER!!

Costume Lady said...

Is there any doubt as to where he will take off from on his maiden flight?

Mits said...

think he has found his spot

Mits said...

or she has..

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Mits!!! I am so happy for you and yours! A boy!! The M&M girls will have him dressed in doll clothes before you know it! (Mattie had Justin in her giant Barbie's dress)! Congratulations~!!!

Costume Lady said...

Well, Sharon, if you decide to run for Governor, please leave our welcome signs as is, 'WILD AND WONDERFUL'. I was furious with Gaston Caperton when he changed that to "Open for Business"...really stoopid! (I think it was Caperton).

Mits said...

thanks, Bev, sure they will put him thru his paces

paula eagleholic said...

Got to chatting and reading...overcooked my pizza! Good thing I like a crispy crust!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Wanda, I think that was Manchin that did that! He changed it back pretty quickly (in politician time, it was fast).

Costume Lady said...

That is so funny, Sissy. Reminds me of my oldest grandson. He wet his pants for many years (at bedtime) and when he came to visit me, sometimes he would run out of his shorts and would wear my grandaugtets panties, just so he could stay!LOL That is the grandson that just graduated from college. He did quit wetting the bed, finally;)

deb said...

I am home, I was going to mow tonight, but it is just going to have to wait until tomorrow, too tired and not in the mood to mow.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Yep, it was Manchin but when I am governor, I will leave our signs as they are cause we are -WILD AND WONDERFUL!!!!

Costume Lady said...

OK, Sissy, after I said Caperton, I thought he was Governor too long ago to have been the jerk...er, I mean the person who changed it.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

My tulip poplar has beautiful blooms all over it!

Costume Lady said...

We are known all across the United States as "Wild and Wonderful". The truckers often refer to WV for one reason or another, Mostly because of our 70MPH speed limit, and call it W and W.

Costume Lady said...

Hi, Deb...yep, prop up those feet and rest your bones:)

Costume Lady said...

Allow enough time in your schedule this evening, Deb, to post some photos for us.

Costume Lady said...

I love tulip trees, the blossoms are unusual and the leaves a pretty.

deb said...

Congrats on a boy, Helen, Ben is a very nice name!

Mits said...

thanks Deb, we have loved the name from the beginning, and glad they can use it now.

paula eagleholic said...

So will he be called Benjamin or Ben?

paula eagleholic said...

Hidey has been perched on the nest edge...stretching on one foot!

Hopped into the bowl and back to the edge at 2ish

paula eagleholic said...

Pic looks really nice now.

Mits said...

Ben...

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Wanda, I don't know if you have heard me talk about it but this tree has been here longer than I have and last year was the first time I saw flowers on it. I guess they have always been there but I hadn't noticed it before.

paula eagleholic said...

Hard to believe one month will be the longest day of the year!

Mema Jo said...

Yepper Hidey! We see you doing that!

paula eagleholic said...

WHOA! Hidey just flew from one side to the other!...and back again!

sara said...

This bird is making me nervous...!!!

paula eagleholic said...

First time I have seen that!

Costume Lady said...

Yes, Sharon, I read your comment about the tree never blooming, that you had noticed, and my thoughts were pretty much what you said....some trees need to be a certain age before they bloom. Not sure about the Tulip Tree.

Mema Jo said...

It should be time for Hidey's late evening snack

Mema Jo said...

Loon is on the nest and the other loon is out in the water - Just took a dive!

hedgie said...

Posted some pics on my blog....pileated is really blurry when you enlarge it, but the 2nd shot showing the hole he made in a matter of a couple of minutes shows well. Wickets hardly show up in cemetery shot.

hedgie said...

Paula, sorry about your baby bird.
Swallows tried to rebuild in same spot here, but see that there's just a lot of nesting material hanging off the eave...they apparently can't get it to stick...probably in too much of a hurry trying to beat nature's call.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

NZ cams are back on!

Mema Jo said...

DC Panda cam in up/running but I think it may be Tai in his den eating his bamboo

Mits - can you advise?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Mits, is that Mei's den? Is that Mei? I don't think it looks like her den.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Eating birdseed out here right now is 3 cardinals, a house sparrow, a female cowbird and 1 plump chipmunk!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

And a partridge in a pear tree!

Mits said...

both cams are on Mei

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Well, poopy turds!

Mits said...

chipmunk that thinks it is a bird...:)

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

We have a lovely parent in our nest!

deb said...

Parent came to visit!

paula eagleholic said...

Got all my annuals covered up!

Belle in the nest!

paula eagleholic said...

Fluff on the beak

wvgal_dana said...

CAM ON

Mits said...

my words exactly, Sharon

hedgie said...

Yep, it sho' nuf WAS Manchin who made that change....el stupido!
Don't know about the blooming schedule on Tulip Poplars---too long ago that I had one---but do remember being told that they are shallowly rooted and become top-heavy! Know what that means!!
Hey, Deb, the lawn will still be there tomorrow! Chill, girlfriend!

paula eagleholic said...

er that is...was, Lib. Gone up into the tree.

Mema Jo said...

Parent sure didn't stay long
And not a morsel left for Hidey

paula eagleholic said...

Ya think Hidey is wondering when he's going to be able to get up there?!

deb said...

And gone

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Alvin blends right in with the birds too! So cute. Comes up the holly tree and makes a leap onto the gutter and then up on the roof. His cheeks are huge right now.

Mits said...

here come the geese

hedgie said...

Dagnabit...???sp???? we have to go through this for a possible what...29 more days?? Argh....

hedgie said...

Is that Mei tearing into that bamboo???? Haven't seen that much energy out of her in weeks!!

paula eagleholic said...

Daggone! Missed Gilles' dance!

Mits said...

been watching her and think she is much more active this year than last year during this stage of the countdown....

hedgie said...

Paula, Gilles "done good"--got a 30! He and Cheryl get my vote!

paula eagleholic said...

Came down to see the 30, that's how I knew I missed it!

paula eagleholic said...

Two perfect scores! Gonna be a hard decision!
