Good morning everyone. I am off for coffee and dog treats. Feels a little more like a normal day to me. I think I am going to go buy me some long johns too "Not the doughnuts" Weather here is going to get brutal over the next few days. Gonna make standing outside with a camera pretty cold and short lived actually because of the sake of the camera.

Hope your day is good.

Norma it was great. Could not help the weather. Amtrak has a lot of great people. Oregon was wonderful. Went to see the zoo lights and saw their new elephant that was born in August. Cute little fellow. We went so many other great places once we got out of the house.

floralgirl said...

Howdy again Sissy:)
Hello Ceil, Norma and Sharon :)

NatureNut said...

Morning Everyone! Saw 2 eagles our nest. Now 1 posing for the camera. Lovely way to start the day & I thought I was too late!

Lolly said...

Good morning Ladies! I got on just in time to see all the house building. Wasn't that cool?!!! I mean they were moving logs!! And, I loved how they messed with that one until they got it right, then switched places and in comes another log! And, the color! WOW!

normabyrd said...

Doesn't BELLE look more BEAUTIFUL each time we see her???---anyone have sound???

Lolly said...

I decided to get on before reading the paper. Glad I did!

Lolly said...

I had sound durning the building. Can not tell now, no wind. I did notice that when there was sound, like people, dogs, or an airplane, they would stop their work and listen.

floralgirl said...

Hi Nature and Lolly:)
No sound here, Norma.

Lolly said...

Good morning Megan.

normabyrd said...

MORNIN' BIRTHDAY GIRL!!---Sounds as if you have been enjoying it!---COOL!----What's the temp in TEXAS???

normabyrd said...

MORNIN' NATURENUT!!---SUZANNE says hello to everyone!!---she misses us very much!----Told her we miss her more!---ho!---We are a loving bunch---aren't we?---AND THAT IS A GOOD THING!!!!!

Lolly said...

I also had another treat this morning. I was at my kitchen window and there were two Mocking birds doing a mating dance. They were on the ground, dancing around each other, jumping up about 8 inches, and occasionally literally rolling on the ground in a ball.

NatureNut said...

Sitting in the nest for a long time. Good for us!

Lolly said...

It is 36 here this morning, bright blue skies. The full moon was bright in our window last night!

Lolly said...

Yes, we miss Suzanne. I loved her morning observations!!!

deb said...

Good morning, it is beautiful out here right now. The winds are supposed to hit around noon. Wind gusts in Rapid City are 70 mph, but luckily won't be that strong here. I am just about done packing, just need to make sure I haven't forgotten anything, like my flipflops!

deb said...

What a nice way to open the computer!

NatureNut said...

Hi Lolly! We may be coming to TX first of April. Bluebonnet season & King Tut exhibit will be in Dallas. 4 hours away, so we could spend the night there & daughter wants Fubby to see LBJ ranch & library. He worked for him for awhile at the Senate. We've driven by the ranch, but didn't go in to library.

Lolly said...

Good morning Deb. Is the weather going to play havoc with your departure plans? Hope not!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Liberty just came back! They are an active couple this morning.

NatureNut said...

More coffee......

floralgirl said...

Hope you have a great trip Deb:)

Lolly said...

Good morning NN!! Yes, we are going to see the King Tut exhibit. Laurel has already been and will be going again taking her class. Michael as also been to see it. We will go soon.

Hope the bluebonnets are beautiful this year, just for you!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Haven't had a chance to look at yesterday's blog. Are you going to CA, Deb?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Busy, busy eagles in our nest for sure!

Lolly said...

Poof! Guess I can go read the paper now. I am just going to have to start getting up earlier and enjoy the morning show!

BBL

deb said...

I leave at 7 AM tomorrow for CA, so flying shouldn't be a problem. It is the driving to Omaha that could be the problem. We changed our plans and will leave this afternoon instead of driving down in the morning. That gives us plenty of time to get there. As we go south it is supposed to get better.

floralgirl said...

Eagle back with nest material!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Busy eagles this morning.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Come back Lolly, they aren't done yet.

Whatcha goin' to CA for, Deb?

normabyrd said...

Morning all from snowy PA. We got about a foot of that white stuff this weekend.

Saw the long visit at our nest a while ago. That one stick was giving someone fits.

Lolly, I love your avitar. I lived for over 40 years in the Houston area. All of my household belongings are still there in storage, so I may move back there someday Yes, Nature Nut, April is the right time for the bluebonnets in the hill country (around Austin towards Brenham)

Deb, have a great trip.

ATLANTA UPDATE....

Monday, January 12
The temperatures have started to drop here in Atlanta, making it feel more like winter. Along with this change in season, we are beginning to see the start of breeding season behaviors in Yang Yang. Over the last week we have seen a small increase in his activity, including walking around his habitat and more frequent scent markings. In the wild, both of these behaviors would help him locate and notify females near his home range that he is around and ready when needed. These behaviors also advertise his presence to other males with which he would compete for access to cycling females. Yang Yang does not yet know that this year he will not have the opportunity to mate, because Lun Lun will not cycle while she is nursing Xi Lan.

Mei Lan is also enjoying the cooler weather and continues to peel and eat both rivercane and yellow groove bamboo. Lun Lun is still spending her time indoors in the off exhibit dens and dayrooms, because Xi Lan is still a little small to negotiate the outdoor habitats. Xi Lan will spend all day on exhibit only if Lun Lun leaves him in the hammock, otherwise he still prefers the off exhibit dens. His motor skills have definitely improved and he seems to enjoy short bouts of wandering around the dens checking out his area.

We are having winter Santa Ana winds for the best part of a week, because of a high pressure area over NV, and either the weather instruments are crazy or the weather is.

It was due to drop into the high 40's last night, but I don't think it went much below 70°... the first look at the weather channel this morning has 71° already.

83° is predicted today, but at this rate it'll probably break through that max.

Hello Eagle ♀ and ♂ People.

Megam: Love that new avatar! Jumped right off the page when I saw it...

If there was an avatar for "Clumsy" I would probably use it sometimes...

So good to hear about OUR Birds on the nest, maybe I will luck out and see the next visit.

Happy Trails, Deb. We will miss you.

magpie said...

Didn't intend to give you a new name, MEGAN - sorry,
fingers are all cracked up and sore from the weather...:(

magpie said...

Norfolk cam is up for me...don't see any birds yet. Hear people talking at the Maine Nest...

Lolly said...

Back! Read the paper and did the morning sudoku puzzle.

Morning Jo! I got on early this morning, well early for me and thoroughly enjoyed the morning house building. Belle and Lib were moving logs!!

normabyrd said...

MORNIN' MOVIN'JIM & MARGY!!---WHOA! JIM----Are you fussin' about your WARM weather???---ho!!----MARGY---Maybe you can tell him how lovely our weather is------

Mits said...

thanks for update on Norfolk, Margy

Lolly said...

Good morning Margy. Hope you do get the next visit. You missed a good one this morning. They were up close and working on those trees you see in the bottom left of the nest. You could really hear too.

hedgie said...

Good morning all. Cold, gray...we've had some flurries, too. Good to see so many of you this am!
That sure is a big log in the "fort", isn't it??
Deb, hope the Omaha drive isn't too bad for you this afternoon. Have a great time!
SIL here w/ his mom's BIL delivering/stacking wood...making lots of noise about it! Sure didn't want to run low with the wickedly cold temps coming the next few days!
Gotta move truck out of garage so they can put Christmas tree on shelf.
Drs. apptmt. this afternoon, so gotta get ready for that, too.
HAve a nice day. See you later!

Lolly said...

Norma, we do enjoy milder winters but we like the cooler weather. If it gets too warm the trees start to bud out and then...whoops! along comes another freeze and kills the buds. Then the fruit trees suffer. :(

Mema Jo said...

Just finished emails...
Opened Moose cam and Pook has new posting about: Alfalfa Returns
with his antlers still in tact.

He is on the cam now - beautiful

floralgirl said...

Hi Margy, don't worry, I've been called worse. See, my mood has gone from grumpy to grouchy...not sure if that's progress-
Hello Jim and Hedgie

floralgirl said...

normabyrd said...

MORNIN' HEDGIE!---Sounds like you have great relatives!!---Isn't it wonderful to have help--now just sit back & let them help you----good wishes--Dr.today---

magpie said...

Lolly - they sound like lumberjacks at Maine!

Megan, favorite book from when daughter was a kid, "How to be a Grouch" by Oscar the Grouch...

Page One:

"First of all, if you want to be a Grouch, you have to stop being so NICE and CUTE ! "

xo ☺ ♥

Lolly said...

Now you hear chopping on the Maine cam. Wondering what they are doing????

magpie said...

Moose cam is wonderful, pictures are magnificent....We're lucky to have that one! ☺

Lolly said...

Hey Margy...think we had the same idea. However, they are talking more than they are working!

magpie said...

Don't see any action at the IWS sites, but Seal Rocks looks better this morning...empty, but there is some pretty green stuff in the nest.

floralgirl said...

I loved Sesame Street as a kid, and my daughter learned so much from that show- when she was little, we took her to Sesame Place in PA., and she was awed by the characters walking around, at that age, she believed they were real..

Mits said...

Maggie loves....MELMO....that is what she calls him...cracks me up:)

magpie said...

One more, Megan:
"Remember these things that a Grouch Can't Stand:
Friendly puppy dogs, Pretty flowers, Cuddly kittens, and Mushy Mail."
But I sure do like Oscar better than Grumpy !
xo ☺

floralgirl said...

Aw- that is so cute, I think we have at least 3 Elmo dolls in daughter's closet-one is so ragged-he got a lot of lovin'..

Red said...

Megan, you could need JAVA. You can download it free.

JAVA

paula eagleholic said...

Megan - NBG and Maine - are you watching it from the cam page or your WMP

floralgirl said...

Watching from the cam pages- I have JAVA- using JAVA site yp check for it-I know I have it, maybe there is a problem with it- I have issues with the Caltrans cam, NBG, Maine, etc..

floralgirl said...

Site says I have the recommended JAVA-Version 6 Update 11.

paula eagleholic said...

Megan - do you have IE 6

Red said...

You could install it again. Won't hurt anything and it might fix a corrupted file.

paula eagleholic said...

Megan - copy and paste the following into your WMP...file, open url...it is the PH nest...wondering if screen jumps w/ WMP or just IE

http://media1.vcoe.org/eaglecam1

floralgirl said...

Ummm..I don't know- where do I find that info?

floralgirl said...

Screen still jumps around thru WMP- hard to explain-like I get several images of the page all over the screen-jumpy...

floralgirl said...

Ok, I have windows XP- version 5.1

Red said...

That does kinda sound like a monitor sync problem. Is it an old monitor with some controls on the back?

Red said...

Or behind a little panel on the front?

floralgirl said...

Has buttons on the side- not more than 5 yrs. old-

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Megan, if you go to the top of this page, click on "help", then on "about internet explorer", it will tell you what version of IE you are using.

floralgirl said...

Found that, thanks Sharon:)

Red said...

Megan, are you still on Dial up?

floralgirl said...

Thank goodness- NO dial up here.

paula eagleholic said...

Megan - if you shrink all open windows, and right click on your desktop (not on a shortcut)and choose properties, settings, advanced, it gives you info about your monitor..go to troubleshooting...try changing hardware acceleration to either full or none

Also, you can click on troubleshoot to reinstall the driver...you have to skip the first set of questions to get to that section

Red said...

Is your monitor a flat screen or the old tube type?

paula eagleholic said...

You can also change the "screen area"...try more or less pixels on your screen.

floralgirl said...

Well, I set my hardware acceleration(whatever that is) from full to none- and voila! no more jumpy screen when I open the NBG or Maine cam- thanks, Paula:) I owe you- please send me your IT bill.
thanks to you too, Red for your help.

floralgirl said...

Flat screen monitor- and hey, there's an eagle at NBG!!

paula eagleholic said...

Eagle alert!!!

paula eagleholic said...

Nice branch brought in!!

Glad that worked for you, Megan!

Red said...

I didn't think you could see NBG cam.

paula eagleholic said...

My feed is choppy...darn...some good action in the nest.

floralgirl said...

They sure are building up the nest- my monitor issue has been solved...this blog will now return to it's regurlarly scheduled program..thank you, you guys:)

Red said...

Sorry, I missed where you said Paula fixed it. Way to go Paula.
