ATTENTION: There was a technical problem with our website that prevented our panda cams from broadcasting last night. That problem has been resolved and the cams are now streaming again.
We continue to watch Mei Xiang closely, and have not yet been able to determine if she is pregnant or experiencing a pseudopregnancy, which is very common in giant pandas.
In the event of a birth, we will inform the public as soon as we possibly can. We appologize for any inconvenience.

Lolly, have a great time in Galveston. I had been there a few times when my daughter lived in Houston & found out later that there are some great BIRD sanctuaries near the water. I've always wanted to see a roseate spoonbill! Keep your eyes peeled! LOL

Well, I laid down to rest my backside for a second and got up about an hour later much more rested ... my backside too.

Heard on news about 1/2 hour ago that what looks like a small cougar has been spotted by 4 people in College Park, MD, behind campus near Comcast Ctr. Hummm
Maybe it's relative of that 44 lb. kitty!

What happened to the music??

Mei Xiang slept last night and this morning while there was a flurry of activity around her. Zoo staff were busy responding to calls and questions from everyone, including the media, who were all certain that last night’s darkened cams were a result of a panda birth. Sadly, it was all created by a technical problem on the site. We are very sorry for the false alarm, and the resulting excitement and disappointment. We all wish so much that it had been the real thing!
Mei continues to display her repertoire of pregnancy behaviors. She also continues to be responsive to the staff, frequently choosing to spend time outside the den. We did not try an ultrasound today. Mei did come out to the patio for treats, but declined to get on the scale. She nibbled very delicately around an apple, leaving a perfectly rounded piece that she could not possibly finish, as it was too tiresome to do so!
As long as her hormone (progestin) level does not reach baseline, there is still hope that a cub is slowly developing. We should know something in the next few days. Hmm, it seems like I have said that before. If her progestin level reaches baseline and remains there for two to three days without a birth, we will know that Ms. Mei experienced another pseudopregnancy
Ch. 9 just showed Mei in her "nest", eating, of course! Said that word from the zoo was that if she is pregnant, birth should be within a week!
No music on RP when I checked it today...missed it...was it still reggae??

Yup - Mits, just called a friend who has a better viewing spot than I, I think the skies will be okay. I want to see what "very bright" looks like compared to last week's views...which were plenty bright! The smaller the number, the brighter the view. Tonight will be 0.9 - also will be visible Aug 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7! All described as "very bright"
I just heard voices at Delta Dawn's nest...people voices, that is.

Margy, my SIL saw the smoke, which he said isn't terribly unusual at the sawmill, but when the trucks passed him on 7 he deeply regretted not having stopped. Of course, I reminded him that he is disabled, no longer has turnout gear onboard, and that a garden hose probably would not have helped! Not to mention that he would have missed his Drs. apptmt., which I was sitting ast Eagle Plaza waiting to take him to!!

Sounds like another fun day here.
Margy was hearing voices and had her head in the clouds; Sharon is still wondering why all the rum is gone;
Sissy had the rum and tequila for a chaser and was jammin and dancing with the pandas; Jim was hallucinating (seeing eagles at BWE); Meggy is hitting the bottle; Lolly asked someone to pass the bottle; Glo is going to start a 12 step meeting for those of us who need it (hope she puts it on her FTLOE...gas costs too much to go to Illinois); Paula is taking inventory tomorrow to see how much rum is left.....PARTYYYYYY!
This was Dustin's first day without meds. He and I took a walk up the road to see if we could find some milkweed with caterpillars on it and sure enough, we found 2 tiny caterpillars. Brought them home and are going to watch them do their thing. I will try to remember to take photos of all their different stages.
A long day is coming up tomorrow. Taking Mom to hospital to have a CT scan of her tummy. Repairmen are suppose to fix her AC and then, she wants to go to the Red Lobster for dinner. Hope it all works out as planned.

Happy New Month...
Some good sky things coming up this month! Meteor shower in a week or so (Aug 12), Venus returns to the night sky, will have Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, (a four-planet night shortly after sunset on Aug 13) and Jupiter.
And lots of Eagle Activity we hope!
