VICKY: Hope you have had a chance to check out the Hobby Falcon Cam that Chrissy passed along to us:

http://www.rspb.org.uk/\webcams/birdsofprey/newforest.asp

It is a beautiful kestrel-like falcon with three beautiful white chicks, and she is rolling a fourth egg. I can hear horses braying and even hoof beats....and lots of neat birds in the background sometimes..

Margy, from the looks of Weatherunderground map, it is pretty much going to hug the coastline....poor lifeguards, been really busy the last 10 days or so, they had over 1,500 rescues in a 7 day period, not to mention the injuries when someone got knocked down by the waves...one boy got hurt last weekend, I saw the Mom and said go tell the lifeguard, they came and drove him up to their car, so Mom could take him to the medical center

paula eagleholic said...

And Magpie, hope you DON'T get called into work either!

paula eagleholic said...

Mits, it's amazing how much Bertha affected the coast with its riptides...

Morning, Norma!

magpie said...

Gotcha Norma, saw you there and answered you a couple of times, that's how I knew you were UP.

Weather: Unbelieveable what it can do, and how powerless we are...
Sounds like a nightmare at the Beaches...and some of that, preventable, but that would require more COMMON SENSE than some people see to have....

It is What It Is...right MITS?

YAY PAULA AND EVERYONE NOT HAVING TO WORK THIS DAY....

magpie said...

HEDGIE - When you get up , check out cartoon page for SPEED BUMP in the Journal....Those creatures are either porcupines, or HEDGE HOGS !!

MITS said...

Common Sense, seems to get thrown out the window, when some people vacation....they get a false sense of security, if they know there are lifeguards, but some idiots go in when no LG's are around...was reading where a surfer guy in his 50's rescued 4 people down by the inlet after guards were off duty

deb said...

Good morning, everyone. The sun is trying to poke through the clouds this morning. I think humidity needs to go away, too!

How about Western Tanagers?

normabyrd said...

OH YEAH!---OLD!!---MAGPIE---I can hear your rockin' chair squeaking now!!-------ho!

deb said...

Margy, no yellow headed blackbirds, but there are tanagers. I very rarely see one and haven't ever seen one with a camera in my hand. The high school mascot is the tanager here in Vermillion.

magpie said...

Thanks Deb. I love the name of your town! Have you seen any Vermillion flycatchers? I guess they are named for their color, and not your town, cause I don't think their range includes SD...
My Dad was a big nut on unusual colors...liked to use them to describe things...

NORMA: I HAVE A TWO-SEATER ROCKER, TO SHARE WITH MY FRIENDS...
HA HA ...

normabyrd said...

CHIMNEY SWIFTS are both feeding their 4 chicks at the same time now!!----JUST BLACK FEATHERS!!---They feed by regurgitating into each chicks mouth!!!----These birds are amazing!!---the way they build their nest still fascinates me---the way they can hang on to the nest!!---AWESOME---

(i know i repeat this every day--but they won't be here much longer)

Margy, I knew that Vermillion was somehow named with the Sioux influence, but couldn't remember the details, so I had to look. This is what I found:
Vermillion is located in the southeast corner of South Dakota (derived its title from the Sioux name, WASE WAKPALA (wa sa wak pa'la) meaning "red stream). I think they red stream they are referring to is the Vermillion River.

Some unusual ones, the Scoopers, the Irrigators, the Moguls. The Scoopers comes from the days when the soldiers at Fort Meade thought they were being "scooped" by the merchants in the towns around Ft. Meade. The merchants made so much money, they could scoop it up. The things you learn.

Martinsburg High School: The BULLDOGS (that's where I graduated from, but I associate myself more with the Hedgesville Eagles - 'cause I lived there quite some time and spent hours on the playing fields with the ambulance standbys..)

Sailboats and speedboat at Ferry Boat Finneys but the pic is not refreshing...

Mascot news is so funny. JIM - maybe I am hearing Mustangs at Hobby nest!

Good Late Late Morning Eagle Buddies

Sunny, hot & humid says it all for the weather..

Lots of reminiscing going on this morning of high school days. Sometimes 50 years ago is toooo long ago to remember but I was from the Hagerstown HUBS! The Heiskell was our symbol.

Off to do some things around the house... like dishes, dusting & washing!!! Fun Things!

Mema Jo said...

You can get an eagle fix at Lake Washington - adult & juvie in nest.

The burrowing owls are all out sunning!

magpie said...

I am confused, no surprise. Opened up Loch Garten and saw two chicks on branches away from the nest a short distance...checked it again a few mins later, and the cam view is the former one, and they are both on the nest! Seeing things?
Or maybe, the cam was sighted on the two parents....

Hobby is done feeding, now is roosting, soon we'll know about a fourth hatch I guess.

Yep, gotta get some things done too...

Hi Mema and Sissy too now...OUR eaglets are still giving us the Slip - so I guess I gotta move on for awhile too..

MEMA:; I HAVE ALWAYS DESPISED DUSTING, BUT I LIKE TO SEE THINGS COME CLEAN!

TTFN...xo and Good Day to All !

Good morning MAGPIE, WANDA, MITS, NORMA, MEGAN, VICKI, PAULA, MITS, DEB, SHARON, T BIRD, SISSY, JO. i see you are all talking about your HS days. Mine was the Port Jervis Red Raiders and we were black and red for colors. Now I am a Go Heeeeeeeeels fan and Go eeeeeeeers fan, when not playing the Carolina Tar Heels.:)

carolinabeachmom said...

I have been pretty busy here lately but have checked in from time to time to see what you were all up to, and catching glimpses of all the birds. There are some neat nests this year.

I haven't checked back on the last few days blogs yet, but hope that Wanda's Dustin is doing much better.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

ARGH!! Typed a book and the blogger cop got me. Hate when that happens. Anyway, I am off of work for the weekend and at home. That is certainly different, been at the lake or off doing something on the weekends all summer. Kinda nice being around the house for a change. Maybe lake tomorrow, not sure yet. Poor little Mei is just laying around, bless her heart. Tai is munching on some bamboo. Life is good. (Wish I was a panda!) Almost acting like one today, eating and laying around.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Is the space station going to be visible again tonight? I would really like for Mattie to see it.

carolinabeachmom said...

From Mits' report I had better go check on the weather. We just had a cloudburst here and now all has stopped. One nice thing about where I live on the barrier island is that I am behind a sand dune and am protected from the NE winds of a storm. It is not until it turns around that we get the blasts of the NW wiwnds. It is wierd to watch the water go out of the canals and the boats almost sitting on the bottom and then the water all comes back in when the wind shifts.

carolinabeachmom said...

Can anyone give me the site for the live hooded crow cam? I have the still one, but not the live. I guess I must have deleted it last year. :(

deb said...

I think Paula's time was 10:10 to 10:15 or right around there for the shuttle tonight.

magpie said...

Hi Candy -
Good to "see" you again...you will find that we have not any eaglets OUR NEST since Thursday morning, at least, none that any of us has seen....

Maybe you will bring us good luck! Hope the weather behaves itself down there.

Computer all locked up with cam viewings, gotta delete cookies and start over...xo later xo

movin said...

Magpie, those are the eyasses on the nest at Loch Garten. You can tell by the light color to every feather tip.

One was just exercising its wings.

Space Shuttle

Saturday night - 10:12 to 10:14pm...starting at WSW...about 45° above the horizon again.

Sunday night - 9:00 to 9:02 pm...starting at SSW...about 45° above the horizon

All the info is here...

http://www.spaceweather.com/

movin said...

I told you it was humid earlier...

Well, the Weather Channel is reporting drizzle now ... it's not drizzling in my area yet though.

About the only time we get rain between May and October in So Cal is when there is tropical storm off of Baja, which forces the moist, warm (monsoon-like) air up into our area, and it encounters the cooler air from the north.

This may be one of those situations.

[:~)]

Jim

magpie said...

Gotcha Movin...overnight and late last night there were some camera adjustments and the angle was much widenend...when I saw two birds in a nearby branch, I thought for a brief second they were the eyasses..

Now the cam view is the same as before, unless they have incorporated a switch between two views...that would be nice...

thanks for the info....Happy Drizzling to ya' if that's a good thing.

movin said...

Candy, I did a google on "hooded crow nest cam" and came up empty.

They do have something on "Carrion Crow," which used to be considered members of the same species and are very similar.

carolinabeachmom said...

MAGPIE thanks for the Hooded Crow site. It is the one I have up and isn't live. Last year we had a site that you could pick from about 4 sites to watch; that being one of them and live.

JIM thanks for the heads up. I guess We'll have to keep searching unless someone like JO or PAULA or MITS or WANDA know the site I'm talking about.

floralgirl said...

Wow- today's word is HUMIDITY!! Hot but busy market today Magpie- dog is ok, definitely has lyme disease, he's on an antibiotic for 30 days. He has good days and bad, some days he really limps and gets carried a lot. Really still ticked at the vet's office for not making sure we knew this last year. He has had lyme for a year with no treatment which is not good.
Off to work......c u later:)

carolinabeachmom said...

Our Nest is still MT. Couldn't get live cam either. Poo. Boy those chimney swift chicks really make some noise when the parent comes around with food. I'm surprised to see that no one has fallen out of the nest yet. :) It was nice to see that when the parent was on the other day, he/she wrapped her/his wing around the chicks to keep them in the nest.

carolinabeachmom said...

MEGAN Sorry to hear about your dog getting Lime Disease and not being properly diagnosed for over a year. That is a rotten shame.

floralgirl said...

Hello Candy:) how are you? grabbing a bite to eat, gotta get to work. Feel bad about dog, we use the tick protection stuff on him, but apparently it's not foolproof. Our problem is there are too many deer around us, battlefield needs to manage the herd but won't for many reasons. Scares me, cause I spend much more time outside than the dog...

carolinabeachmom said...

Wind is really blowing at the Hobby nest. Feeding time there again and parent is having troule staying in place.

Still MT nest in Shepherdstown. I guess our babies have finally grown up enough to where they can soar forever and learn how to catch fish from the river. :(

carolinabeachmom said...

MEGAN I hope you check for ticks each time you come in for good. I know you probably do. Just be very careful. It is awful hot and humid out today, as you said earlier. You had better pace yourself out in your garden.

floralgirl said...

OH, I do, but those deer ticks are so small, often you never see them on you- they can be the size of a freckle. It is really hot out now, so I am going to the basement to start making bouquets-it's nice and cool down there:) later

carolinabeachmom said...

Well have to get clothes out of dryer. I cleaned the whole house yesterday and did it feel good to live in a clean house again. I have aslo been going through drawers, closets and the like, throwing excess out. Now if I could just get my hubby into our attic or room under......That is another story. Maybe in the fall or most likely when I finally retire next year.

floralgirl said...

Clean house??? I've heard of it...

magpie said...

Good philosphy, Candy - about the eagles being independent...I guess we just have to face it, that we are not going to see them each day anymore as we have been spoiled by here of late.
Megan, glad it was busy, sorry it was hot!
Glad to hear about the doggie, - and is the VET still alive???

Getting ready to head out for church soon...

Nice to hear from everyone...always.

Hi Everyone ( :

Been busy catching up on chores since I was having foot iced and up alot.

Getting ready to catch up on todays comments.

hedgie said...

Hey, Dana...what's up w/ foot?

wvgal_dana said...

Thanks Hedgie it's better...I don't walk on uneven ground very well. Usually throws back or feet out with pain. So I did the left foot in week and a half ago. Tried everything. Nothing would help....finally I slept with shoes on for 2 days and 2 night. Only took off to wash. Better now....

hedgie said...

That sounds miserable!! You know that old saying "when your feet you hurt all over" is very true! The voice of experience here!

hedgie said...

Whoops..that should be "when your feet HURT"!!! Brain ahead of fingers again. AAAAARGHHHHH.

wvgal_dana said...

Life goes on Hedgie and I always tell myself "there is someone out there worse than me"...

Tried that new pizza buffet here at the Spring Mills WalMart shopping center. Called Pizza Montese $5.99 and then cost of drink. Salads (can't eat) looked nice though, I think it was 2 or 3 different kinds of soups, Lagsana, Spagetti, of course all different kinds of pizza or order one you like they put it on the bar, and then your brownies and cinn. rolls.

Something like Ci Ci's.....

Hey there HEDGIE AND DANA! Yes, I am checking in and out today and finally said that I am going to get on the blog. I've missed everyone on here, but been pretty busy on my weeks off from school.

I didn't even know there was a threat of a storm off our coast Guess I had better watch the weather channel. It poured here earlier for a shrot time, but now the sun is out shining.

DANA Sorry to hear you are having problems again, but it sounds like you solved it. :) Sleeping with your shoes on is alot cheaper than the doctor bills. You are one smart cookie!!

hedgie said...

Will respond to you all before I bake...have heard that Montese was pretty decent...the Tucker boy was part of the ownership of it..did you know that?
I have been a proofreader forever, Sharon, and I can be a stickler. One thing I have to say, tho', in my own defense...got a new computer in Feb. and the keyboard is a bear...I have made more goofs because of it than I've ever made before when typing!! Bye!

Hi Paula ( : I know it is I remember with Tai. Just really making conversation.

Guess I better get my butt to fixing our dinner. lol

I think they are actually hoping for some either positive or negative results soon.

hedgie said...

Hey, Candy...know you are out eating something tasty...chocolate cake w/ choc/peanut butter icing...no ice cream!! Have never cared for that combo!
Sharon, journalism (all facets, including proofing, editing, etc.) was my other profession! You did see my blog a few weeks ago about the error I found in the printing of David Selby's book, didn't you? LOL!
Dana..sad but true that there are no guarantees until the "butter stick" emerges! Hey, wonder if that's how Buta Buta got named???

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Lynn, I actually named Buta Buta because of the stick of butter. I said it stood for Land O'Lakes in Chinese! :)

hedgie said...

Go, Sharon! Very imaginative!!

hedgie said...

Guess I better go start dinner. See you fowl friends later.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Lynn, I am glad you spelled it fowl and not foul! :)

Lolly said...

Hi all! Have been off all week. We have had Zach and when he was asleep I was too tired to do anything but sit!! His parents are on St. Barts enjoying the life of leisure! We certainly had fun and yesterday we had all three boys here. Wo!!! Talk about passing out when my head hit the pillow. ha!

So, what's up? Too tired to check past blogs.

Anyway, heading out to mow right now. Temp is down to 94...gotta head out while it is cool, LOL

BBL

hedgie said...

Hi, Lolly. Glad you survived. It's amazing how much they can take out of us! Luckily, mine are now 10 and 14, so it's a bit easier. Now it's "Grandma, will you take me shopping? Can we go to the movies?" etc., etc.!! All involving money, of course. LOL.
Sharon...always FOWL, never foul!!!

hedgie said...

Treating myself to a PPV movie...National Treasure, the second one. BBL.

wvgal_dana said...

LOL Hedgie that is what I wanted to watch tonight so funny....There is a baseball game coming on at 8pm. So I'll watch National Treasures Book of Secrets tomorrow sometime.

paula eagleholic said...

Hi Lolly! Glad you are having such a good time w/ the grandkids!

paula eagleholic said...

I want to see that movie too. First one was good!

Lolly said...

Taking a breather from mowing. Jack is finishing up, I have edged, now the blower, but getting a long drink and cooling off first.

LOL Mowing is easier than chasing a two year old, but not as much fun. What was really cute was Jacob who is three telling the two year old not to poop in his pants! Truly, truly! It was priceless. He told him big boys don't do that. Also, he helped to bath him. Jacob is 16 months older that his cousin. You gotta love it!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Hey everyone!! Still no eagles today? Wow, that is a long time with no eagle fix. Don't know if I can go much longer.

paula eagleholic said...

Hope our Moutaineers have found a cool spot down by the river...

OK, come on moon, I can't see what I'm doing out there... just stepped on the tail of a black snake in the garden..neither of us was too happy about it..sssssss-ew-then I lost track of him so I gave up outside. Off to make bouquets- it's still 80° and humid here-ugh..

Unknown said...

Ha HA- apparently my kid has hijacked my identity...it is I the floral one-

paula eagleholic said...

LOL, I knew who it was when the bouquet talk started!

paula eagleholic said...

I thought you were really 'mad' about something! But I know what "mad" means!

Costume Lady said...

Megan, what were you doing in the garden so late? Isn't it too dark to see what you are doing?

MITS said...

awww don't be MAD;)........fantastic day at the beach, warm sun, blue skies, water temp perfect, nice orange moon tonight....take care everyone...GOOD NIGHT!!

Costume Lady said...

I was trying to catch up on the day's blog and had to stop and try to figure out why DANA slept with shoes on. I couldn't find any explanation as to how that would help. DANA...come back and tell us.

Costume Lady said...

Good Night Helen.

Costume Lady said...

Megan, is your dog going to be OK?
Did the vet apologize?

hedgie said...

Megan, that's cute!! I was wondering what was going on!
Movie was good! No sex or cussing or mutants, etc., just a lot of fantasy!!
Here is some interesting info about Lyme....
"Remember that the tick is simply a method by which the bacteria gets around. It does not play a part in the disease. The most likely time to be bitten by an infected tick in the USA is April through November. At least three species of tick are known to transmit Lyme Disease. However, the great majority of transmissions are due to the bite of an extremely small (poppy seed sized) tick called the deer tick or black-legged tick. Although it is called the deer tick, it feeds on many animals including birds, raccoons, skunks, opossums, dogs and cats. Its scientific name is Ixodes scapularis and it is so small that it can be easily overlooked. The infected tick must remain attached to the dog or human for a day or two before it can transmit the disease. The tick obtains its infection by feeding on a white-footed mouse (Paramyscus) which is itself infected with the disease. This tick is now being spread rapidly on infected migratory birds and coming into our home environment more as we build our homes in an urban sprawl that penetrates the countryside."
So blame the mouse, not the deer!!! The article also said that, for unknown reasons, the arthritis complication is common in the US but NOT so much in Europe!

Nats won 8-2 over Atlanta!

O's down 10-9 to Detroit with 3 on base, bottom of 7th. Fan just got a really bloody nose!!

hedgie said...

Hello...where is everybody??
Almost time to watch for the shuttle if you have open sky!!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Gonna go out in a minute and look for the ISS and then hit the hay. Going to the lake in the morning for the day! Sure would like to see some Eagles tomorrow. Sleep tight all you beautiful people.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Hey, Lynn, right here. Going to go looking too. Have a good night!

hedgie said...

Wanda, how is Dustin feeling? Did he enjoy crab legs?

hedgie said...

Good luck, Sissy. Hope you can see it!

Costume Lady said...

Lynn, Dustin is feeling tip top! Yes, he enjoyed his dinner and crab legs. He had two plates full of all sorts of food. He now weighs 128 lbs. (up from 122lbs)

Costume Lady said...

I really think he feels better because he is eating more and it's giving him energy. Well, you are a nurse, Lynn, so you know that is a fact.

Costume Lady said...

Going MOONING.

hedgie said...

Of course, I MEANT space station, not shuttle! Duh....

NatureNut said...

Good Evening Everyone! Just looked at clock & it's Sparkle Time outside!!!!

hedgie said...

I can't see anything, Wanda....too many trees! I can only do winter viewing.
Yep, Grandma's cooking is doing the trick for him.

paula eagleholic said...

Who you mooning, Wanda? :):)

movin said...

The Blog stole my comment and then told me it was a duplicate action, and then it ate it.

Megan, I can't believe that story about your dog having a serious disease like that without treatment!

What story did the vet give you??

Anyway, I hope the pooch recovers fully and quickly.
What kind of dog is he/she??

Jim

NatureNut said...

Well, didn't see Shuttle tonight, just Jupiter and moon, or was that Wanda?? LOL

magpie said...

PAULA: It was exactly as you described it, the International Space Station (ISS) and right on time! I had to extricate myself out of the farm lane I trespassed on to get back here to tell you. Yes, it was fast, and no, no blinking lights...very very nice. Thanks for tipping us off that this was happening this week-end...happens again tomorrow night at least too. The Moon ain't no slouch either: just about still full.

xo

hedgie said...

Margy...whose farm were you on??

paula eagleholic said...

Glad you got to see it and better you didn't get caught, Magpie!

hedgie said...

O's tied it...extra inning....

magpie said...

Yeah, I figured I could roll out my "I work for 9-1-1" routine and/or maybe if a policeman stopped by I might even know him or her. The lane was somewhere near Ridge Road South, Hedgie...
I was driving up and down Butlers Chapel Rd looking for a pullover spot...then had to settle quickly for something: I WAS NOT GOING TO MISS THIS WHILE THE SKIES ARE CLEAR TONIGHT..YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT THE NEXT NIGHT BRINGS...

Yeah, Paula, it is right there on the list of cool sky things I have been fortunate to have observed...

magpie said...

Good thing about it too, is that with the area that it covers in the sky, I can probably see it right here from a spot close to home, but I liked the darker skies.

magpie said...

I just wonder what makes it so bright....is it lights inside of the station? Or something that happens when it courses through the atmosphere...

I was sure glad to see LOLLY on here. Before I checked the Blogs I was wondering just where she was and how I was going to look for her!

magpie said...

MEGAN: We have a MEGAN STREET here in Berkeley County, out near the Veternas Hospital. Passed it tonight and thought of you.

hedgie said...

No dawning at Finney's...cam is stuck on 1700hrs! Pretty sailboat, though!
Marg...hard to beleive the way Ridge is now....when I left there in '86, it was all still fields and orchards!! Sad.
I think the ISS is pretty shiny on the outer surface. Don't know whether there are windows or not.
O's just won it...good night for our home teams!!

hedgie said...

Check your e-mail, Margy!
Time for news, bath and bed. Night all! Pleasant dreams and prayers for all.

If you click on this link, you will see a new video clip of Skye (A-65) in the hacking tower on Santa Cruz....

Doesn't look as though they had opened the door yet, so he couldn't get out, and the crows or ravens couldn't get in. Hahaha.

Back at ya' Hedgie...I just did and doodled ya a message too...

Speaking of typoes as you all were earlier: Try having a few stuck keys on for size! Makes for some hilarious letter groupings.

Well it is time to shut it down soon. I forgot to cross a few of my fingers and toes..and almost had to go in and fill TWO different work shifts, but thankfully, a couple of others stepped up to the plate. Might get tagged Sunday though....It is What It Is...(thanks Mits, that one is yours!)

Hi/Bye Jim, Thanks for your links.

Good Night, and Thanks to everyone for your friendship, interest, knowledge, and unending patience with my endless jabber sometimes!

xoxoxoxo Take Care, and Prayers...
