Wednesday
The shot above was captured this AM. Steve W. and I have discussed, and it seems like there are a couple of things that could be going on. First off, it is one of our adult eagles that has been eating carrion of some sort, like a dead deer and has not cleaned up yet.
It could be an adult that has gotten into a scrap with another critter.
Steve's first impression is that it may be a new eagle, and if so, because of the mottling on the head, could be one of the eaglets hatched four years ago in this nest. We'll need to keep a close eye to determine if this is the case. If it is a juvenile, it will be chased off by the adults.
There are other scenarios as well, but these seem the most likely to us.
Update 1:27 pm:
Steve W. just stopped in and said that he is more confident that the bird this AM is a four year old eagle. There's an eagle perched over the nest now, so we'll keep watching.

Thank you Steve and Steve for your thoughts on the happenings in our nest this morning. I guess time will tell.
Yes, Watch out for the Blogger Cop today. Ate my first post, too. Copy and paste before you post! Would love to see some more pics from this morning, if anyone has some.
Thanks!
Wow neat information....
Thank you Steven and Steve W. you all will surely be keeping and eye on the live feed down there. With everyone keeping an eye out maybe like you say it can be figured out for sure.
We'll see as things develope. I do thank you very much for both of you answering.
Have A Nice Day
MORNIN' STEVEN----Thanks for the info concerning the EAGLE with "speckled head"---ENJOY THE DAY!!----Tomorrow will be COLD!!
Thanks, if that is Lib, it has happened in the last 24, because his head was clean as a whistle yesterday, thanks for the food for thought...now what if he chases the adults off, has that ever happened that long term nest dwellers have been kicked out by younger eagles??? Learning something all the time.
If that is one of their offsprings from years ago. You all know we are all thinking. We could see Spunky in about 4 years. ( :
I do hope it is not injury from a fight. I remember the spot on Belle's head from a fight protecting the nest.
Windy but sunny in Maine this morning.
Eagle still at BW.
I see blogger finally let you guys over here :)
After going back and reading this mornings comments again...it would seem out of character for an intruder eagle to be doing nestorations. Plus, there were 2 eagles this morning...doesn't seem likely that it was an intruder.
I wonder if the white on Lib was feathers or white fur and the dark spots dried blood.
I just read Steve's summary of what the possibilities may be with our nest scenerio this morning. VERY interesting....And the drama continues....
The drama certainly does continue..
and so early in the season! Nature has been teaching us so much!
Keep us posted Steve C and Steve W as you learn more......
You could see in some of the pictures the eagle in the nest was looking up. I had thought it was Liberty looking up at Belle. As Steve C. and Steve W. has looked at pictures sent to them. Their opinions have been given. Now we watch, wait and see what this continous eagle nest shows.
Paula said it would be out of character for an intruder eagle to to nestorations and I agree. That is why I thought it might be one of their offspring. I think we saw A-63 doing nestorations. It may be instinct to "tidy up" their old home. JMO
Thanks for the info, Steve. We were wondering on here if it was an intruder. Wanda even said it didn't behave like Lib. Sure doesn't look like him with that dirty head and those white feathers on his back!
Thanks for the new thread, too!
Paula, thanks for the heads up.
Was just about to post this when I saw your heads up, so I copied. Seems to be a good thing, since blogger cop is alive and well today! .....
Oh Wanda, I'm so sorry Karla got sick then. I told her not to tell anybody about the soup! Darn.
Morning, Mits, Jo, and Glo. Pics just went out, been busy. Sorry for the delay, but they're on the way. You guys tell me what you think about Lib's dirty head and white feathers on his back.
Morning, Paula.
No I don't think it would have been an intruder either.
I was surprised watching the cleaning of the bark off the sticks. I hadn't seen Liberty doing that.
As they say time will tell.
This is going to be a very interesting day....really anxious to see who shows up during the next visit. If it was Lib and he got cleaned up, we will never know.
I put pictures in the album. Hope they help out.
I just got a phone call from Gene. He had stopped for gas in Moorefield, WV and it was $3.19 for regular! I think it is $3.09 here.
Moorefield is well known for a lot of deer, but all he saw was 2 hawks and an EAGLE.
Eagle in maine eating!!!
#$@$#%#$ BLOGGER
Don't think it's fish...looking like pulling off fur
Maine cam a little blurry today.
Thanks, Dana, I'll go check out the pics.
The white feathers on the back suggest to us it's a juvenile who's adult plumage has just come in. Our adults will chase any intruder away.
Time will tell waht the real deal is here.
You can hear crows at Maine
Suz, you got a lot of shot of the eagle. He must have been there a long time before I got on here. After looking at your pics, I would venture to say that he may have been a fight. That would account for the dirty head and the white feathers showing on his back. Unless there was an eyewitness, we wil never know. Like Dana said, Time will tell.
I'm going to visit my Mother and will be gone most of the afternoon. If someone catches photos of another visit, please send some to me.
HAVE A GOOD DAY.
Looking at Dana's pics, that doesn't look like Lib.
Thanks Dana for posting the pictures.
I am really thinking that this eagle is not our Lib.... scary.. hope we get another visit from whoever is there. Keep good notes -- I have appointment that will take me away for a couple of hours....
MTBR (as Eagle Eyed Sharon would say)
I just read Steve's comment about the Juvenile. Would the parent chase away their offspring?
Yes Wanda their offspring must find their own nesting terrority. The parents would after a time chase the offspring off.
This really has been an interesting season. Not to say the least.
We continue to learn.
Saying bye now Suzanne. I am out of here till later....will look to see if anyone snapped pictures of any eagle in our nest when I get back.
I don't see any pics with 2 birds. Was I wrong in reading back that there were two in the nest at one time this morning?
Only 1 was in the nest while I was watching this morning, Paula, not 2. You guys will have to take pics if any eagles show up this afternoon or evening. Then we can at least compare them. But I also thought the eagle in the nest this morning was a tad larger than Lib, but that's JMHO!
Thanks Steve for the comment on the juvie - With all those whitish spots on its back I sure agree with you. I just hope that our eagle couple returns to claim their nest and that they don't look like they've been in a territorial fight! Thanks for keeping an eye out and reporting to us Momsters what you and Steve W think is going on at the nest.
After looking at Suz's pics, I would agree it was another eagle. Looks like he was cleaning his beak, too.
Eagle still at BW
Wanda Lisa has placed 3 more FOX photos on the osprey Home Page for you!
Cool, Wanda - The Capt saw an EAGLE!!
LOST ANOTHER COMMENT!!
Those are some awesome fox photos.
Jim - Imagine That!! :):)
I know, I'm being a smart a** !! :):)
GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE!!
Have a safe trip home, Suz.
Some excitement with the 'intruder' this morning.
Jim
Wanda, so cool that Capt Eagle saw an eagle! How cool is that!
And thanks for the heads up about the fox pics, Jo, they are beautiful! I see a lot of them in the mornings, but it's so dark, you can't see them that well.
Morning again, Jim. Hope you slept well. I sent you pics of the visitor this morning too.
Time for me to hit the road. All have a great eagle/panda day. Take pics if we get any visitors to our nest!
Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!
I believe it's been losing comments this time around when I use the "preview" button.
How about the rest of you?
Jim
They must be having some insect hatches at Pete's Pond...look at the gazillion bats there!
Jim
Eagle gone and blackbirds present at BW.
Jim
Little birdies at BW
I don't use the PREVIEW unless I am putting in a tinyURL link. After losing my very first comment this morning - all other comments have gone through quickly.
LIttle birdies out, Big Eewwiiee In.
I am hoping that Steve gets his binoculars out on his lunch break & takes a look to the sky and the trees around the sycamore to sight our eagle couple....
Acting better for me too, Jo. Must have to pay the blogger cop with a post, and then you are allowed in :)
EEuuuwieee at BWl
Big turnover of visitors this morning at BW...now it's Fish Crows.
Now those look like fish crows at BW - or ravens
Almost ate my comment....
Bet that eagle was checking out our nest this morning for nestovers!!
Lunch time here - then off to an appointment - I'll peek in before I leave for any info on the Intruder!!!
I just viewed Suzanne's pics from this morning...
It was definitely another eagle...looks like a first-year-nester, which thinks it has found an ideal new nest site...just needs a little sprucing up.
It really moved some lumber in a short time, didn't it?
Almost looks like Liberty-Belle hired a laborer to clean up the site.
Now, we've got to watch extra hard for Liberty-Belle in the nest (or in the area if you are in the area) to see that they haven't been displaced by a younger pair.
It's possible, but Liberty and Belle are both large, strong eagles in their prime, so I doubt it. More likely the intruder came upon the nest when the residents were at the river getting breakfast.
Jim
I like your scenario, Jim! You're right about keeping our eyes open to sight Lib & Belle.
HELLO....as soon as I saw Suzanne's' pics from this morning, didn't think it was Lib, unless he knocked over a paint can on his back feathers and got splattered. True Lib and Belle will probably defend their territory, but I'm also reminded of long term partners George and Martha that lived on the Anacostia River in D.C., and how their story unfolded, I'm thinking for sure Paula has their story on the Momsters site.
Yes, Mits the link for George and Martha is on Momsters site....
This eagle could be looking to settle in the area, or could be migrating...
ok, so who is going to volunteer to go talk to the eagle:)
Cam 2A at NZ is on the sloths Hanna and her cub Balavat...cute
Here we go again-1st comment eaten by blogger cop!
I am hoping that Steve will give us one more update before he leaves work this evening. I feel like we need to set up a vigil - lol Kidding NOT!
so my guess is anytime now, sun goes down in about 20 minutes.
I'm sure we don't have anything to worry about...we have had passers-by before.
Wow - just read Steve's comment and all the blog entries on the possible nest visitor. Nature is certainly unpredictible - and never dull. It'll be interesting to follow this event.
Sorry - time to leave for home, so can't chat anymore.
Eagle at BW
With Belle as big as she is, I'm not worried, think she would scare anyone away.

BEAUTIFUL SHOW
JUST FOR US MOMSTERS
TO HAVE PEACE OF MIND &
BE ABLE TO ENJOY OUR DINNER
Love you 2 eagles!!!!
what a nice visit.
Yup Yup our eagles... i didnt think that eagle in the pictures was our 2... MT nest Hmmm i wonder if thst ther eagle is looking to build a nest for the season close by? How close would eagles build together a quik question for Steven??? How far apart???
I wonder if Steve was over at the barn calling them into the nest for us! We best sent him a picture in case he gets on his laptop this evening.
Laying on the couch - waiting and hoping to see them - and poof there they were. Checking in with us all and making sure we knew they were okay and in charge.
Nilla - our eagles took one whole season to construct their nest, then used it the second season. Eagles defend a 1-2 mile territory during nesting season, and a larger territory outside of nesting season.
Sorry forgot my manners Howdy Folks... have not been on for awhile just very busy and was not feeling well... Good to see the eagles... Jasmin got her ears pierced and has lil Rubies in her ears for her birthstone... Guess i should go back and read blogs and see what i missed important if anything.. BBL
Thanks Paula i kind of figured that... Wouldnt that be great to find this is one of there kids from another year.. But of course we will never know...
Glad you are feeling better, Nilla.
(((Hugs))) to the grandbabies
Got home just in time to see OUR eagles. Butterfly Mama called and alerted me. Like Jo said, glad they came and calmed our nerves so we can enjoy our supper.
NILLA--Jasmin was just beautiful in her little wedding dress.
Just saw on the Hagerstown news that the Clearing House Prize Patrol gave a woman there a check for 10 grand...
both eagles at Cape Coral
Could you please put that link to Cape here... Thanks i checked beakspeak and did not find it there..
Cape Coral

lol Nilla - wait until tomorrow to try that cam... It's dark now! Sorry I didn't read sooner......
You didn't get 10 grand - only
100 lbs of wax!!!
Nice night for a walk....
Interesting development at the nest this morning huh? I hope we don't have another intruder problem like the BW Osprey Cam nest. I'm guessing we won't since it may be a juvie that can easily be chased off. FYI - Monday was a complete bust. Didn't see a thing. Should have gone to BW. This weekend will be torture figuring out where to go. Still working on the Dock Dogs photos. Didn't get home from work till after 8:00.
Evenin...
Anybody who saw the pair tonight, did they appear to be aware that some other critter had been moving the building materials around? Did they spend more time straightening up or about the same?
Curious thing that happened this morning.
Jim
Hello Bob & Jim
We were all hoping that you would see and capture the Golden Eagle again. Sounds like you're busy at work..IT problems?
The couple when they visited seemed to be in the same daily routine. I would not be surprised that tomorrow we see the juvie intruder again - at least I hope he/she keeps the 'dirty' feathered head so that we know who it is. Pictures of their visit are in the Momster album.
Link to Momster Photo Album
still a balmy 67° here tonight. GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE
Thanks, Mema Jo,
I'll take a peek shortly.
Anything else exciting happen today?
Jim
Early morning at Pete's and the baboons are there.
Good night, Mits.
Jim
Calling it a night....wondering what surprises await us at the nest in the morning.
GOOD NIGHT TO YOU ALL
SLEEP WELL
Good Night Everyone
Peace to You & Yours
Prayers being said for all
your needs
Good Morning Early Birds....
I just scoped todays nest pics on momster's...tonight's pair were unharmed and unchanged, so I don't know where the intruder came from or how it got on the nest without being caught.
It doesn't appear to be a threat to Liberty-Belle.
One positive thing about the episode: it could have been evidence that some of Lib-Belle's chicks from years ago survived.
Jim
GOOD NIGHT, EAGLE LOVERS/GOOD MORNING, SUZANNE AND ALL EARLY BIRDS...
HAVE A GREAT DAY. GOD BLESS YOU.
JIM
Good morning, world. Very rainy out, but about 10 miles from Falls Church rain stopped and streets are dry. But it was pouring all the way down here! Not cold though, kinda warm. 58° at my house, 61° here. Boss just told me the high today is only going to be 63° though, then it's gonna cool off. Well, it's that time of year here.
Saw Jim's last couple comments, and I'm glad to hear Lib and Belle are fine. I'll have to go check out the pics. So now I wonder if that guy that was there yesterday is one of their older chicks. How cool would that be!!! Maybe we'll see Spunky in 3 or 4 years, that would be too cool!
All have a great eagle/panda day.
Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!
Steve, saw your update from yesterday, thanks for that info. Now I really do wonder if it is one of Liberty and Belle's earlier kids. That would be cool if he/she nested in this area...but not TOO close to Liberty and Belle.
GOOD MORNING SUZ--
It is raining so hard here that I wonder if Lib & Belle will even think of visiting us. They are probably sitting it out in the barn.
We had so much excitement yesterday and probably won't see anything today.
Oh my, I am sounding so negative this morning....I need to get some coffee. BBILW
GOOD WEDNESDAY MORNING EVERYONE Wanda I was just going to say, what a wonderful thing that it is raining. Guess I really did miss the rain, because it has been so dry.
GOOD MORNING MITS--
I guess we must have had more rain than in your area. Our garden is so wet that we can't get in to clean it up for the Winter. Of course, we can use all the rain we can get to make up for the draught.
Hi Wanda! Wasn't paying attention, didn't see you come in. Yes we did have some excitement. That eagle was very busy rearranging those sticks! He was there for a long time. OR she. I really am wondering now if it is one of Lib and Belle's older kids. I've read that eagles return to the area from where they fledged, so could be! Be nice if they stayed around, but not TOO close to Lib and Belle. But any nesting pairs of eagles is a good thing!
Uh oh, Morning, Mits! Didn't see you come in either! Good grief, obviously not paying attention! Did you get the pics the 2nd time?
Jo, know you'll read this eventually. Owl hotel had 2 owls again this morning! Two days in a row that I know of, so who knows... babies???? May be on the horizon, ya never know.
No, Suzanne, that was was completely blank...no worries.
Good morning, Mits, Wanda and Suzanne. Hope you all have a wonderful day. Watching the nest this a.m. to see if we have anymore excitement. Just hope no fights occur if this is a visiting eagle.
Good rainy morning Suzanne, Wanda, Mits, and watchers.
Suzanne where you said something about if that was one of their chicks. Maybe in 4 or 5 years we might see Spunky. I had said something like that yesterday. We be NEAT huh!!
Yes if it is one of their offspring they will chance it away. It will in around a 100 miles or so range find it's own nesting area. That would be cool!
GOOD MORNING SHARON & DANA
It will take a lot to top yesterday. Did you see the photos of the evening visit. Thank goodnes they came back; I think we were all worried for a little while.
went to make coffee, nothing yet.
Morning Sharon and Dana. Someone came in a while ago and said it is now raining sideways here! Maybe they won't show up, just have to wait and see.
I made a slideshow of the visit yesterday, and that eagle was constantly moving sticks. Didn't realize that so much with the still pics, but he sure was industrious!
Oh yeah, saw the pics of the evening visit. Sure was glad to see our kids back, that's for sure!
Our little Squiggles is sleeping all alone. She's so cute!
Well yeah, Bai just made a liar outta me! She just came back and snuggled up to Squiggles. When does she get her real name, next week sometime I think.
just checked radar at the nest, and it looks like rain is moving out of the area.
Nice to see you in this morning early Sharon.
Yes Wanda did see pics. So that does erase where Steven said one may have been eating and not being cleaned up. Strike one; we can forget that one for sure.
It is great just knowing OUR EAGLES are ok.
BW nest looks totally dry. May get some visitors there.
Deer in PA! Cool
November 26th is the naming ceremony, Suzanne
Thanks, Mits! Couldn't remember the date.
The rain has nearly stopped and our birds have started singing and are at the feeders. Soooo, maybe....
Mits, you watching Tai? He's pushing on what looks like a hole in the wall where he would get treats. Too funny!
Suz, did you have a bad cough with your cold? I spoke with Karla on the phone yesterday and she coughed quite a bit.
OH, good sign, Wanda! Let's hope...
2 deer in PA now. Love this cam. Saw a Racoon yesterday, how cool.
Oh, tai got a treat! Oh my, he's laying down on his back and hitting himself on the head with it. No, now we're gonna eat it... and hit outselves on the head with it, too funny!
I sure did, Wanda! To the point that I quit smoking for about a week!
Suz, I just saw the keeper give Mei her treat wand, to keep her quiet., so glad there is a voulunteer to man the cams, I think they are losing some of them
Mits, what kind of treat is that Tai has? He seems to be shaking it. Well, when they get him back on cam...
Norma's Prince is a trip isn't he lol
Oh no!!!! I sure hope not. So then that must be Mai and not Tai. Did they change the cams? He used to be on cam2.
Mei is the one with the biscuit wand, she lays on her back and shakes the biscuits out
GOOD MORNING EAGLELAND TO SUZANNE, MITS, WANDA, AND DANA. Got into work late today and was sooo tired out last night I never got on the blog. I hope you all have a nice day today and Friday is tomorrow.
SUZANNE, I HOPE YOU HAD GOOD RESULTS AT YOUR DENTISIT AND NOW THAT IS OVER.
Interesting story about the new eagle in the nest. I'll have to read the blog tonight. Until then, good day to all. I'm still here and watching and readi
She seems to have it down pat. Doesn't she Mits?
Mits, never mind! Guess Tai is still on cam 2! I had my cams in the wrong locations, dumb butt me!!
Mei cam 1, Tai cam 2, but not always, depends on which yard and what den they are in.
She is an expert at it Dana.....Tian rolls his around til the biscuits come out and Tai does the same thing
GOOD MORNING CANDY--
Maybe you can chat this evening. Have a good day.
Ok, thanks Mits. One of these days I will learn to read back and then comment and post! One of these days...
Morning, Candy! We're all waiting to see who, if anybody, comes to the nest this morning.
ok, early a.m. appts, Later!!!!
Ok, Tai now has a rag he's playing with.
Candy Hope You Have A Nice Day. Good you got in for awhile this morning.
