Shepherdstown 4/19

Been a great spring day here.

Tomorrow we do a broadcast to middle school students across the nation on eagles and our NCTC eagles. Click here for more info on it. Should note it may not be easy for folks to view this outside of schools. I will give you more details if I get them in time.

Ohhhhhh aren't those faces only a mother can love.. The school's are in for abig treat seeing our babies live.My 16 year old grandson saw them this evening and i was watching live, so i scrolled the time line back so he could see both parents and them flying away.

I grabbed the eaglet shot from the NCTC website, they're not the NCTC eaglets, but a cool pic nonetheless.

I certainly hope the schools will take advantage of your broadcast - Most children are fasinated with nature.
4/20/06 12:26pm LUNCH is sure late today and the eaglets seem to be very anxious for it to arrive - all three are hanging out over the age! I have noticed the adult eagles lowering the base of the nest as the eaglets grow. Is this a safety measure on their part? Are the adults not feeding the oldest eaglet in order for him to learn to feed himself? When can you tell if an eaglet is male or female? Any chance we can have another informative update from the Land Manager? Last one was great!

*** Typo: hanging out over the EDGE. I know you all knew what I meant!
Well, lunch is there and seems that all three are being fed. Makes me feel better!

I am with you Jo. I would love to know info on some of what we are seeing. Seems like the mommy and daddy are gone from the nest for longer periods now. I get worried something has happened to them and here they come. I am not as knowledgeable about this part of nature as I want to be but surely more than I used to be. This has been the most fascinating thing I have ever watched. I really want to thank everybody concerned for this site. The children seem to fistacuff a lot sometimes. And, yesterday for the first time, I got to see them do their business over the edge of the nest. I thought that was pretty funny. Thanks again.

I am still amazed that the eaglets can back it up to the edge of the nest and do their "poop shoot"! What a clean nest-almost like a kitten having a natural instinct for the litter box. I have been on the Beakspeak.com site under the BlackwaterRefuge-Cambrige,MD location. This connection: http://www.baldeagleinfo.com/eagle/eagle4.html gives so much info- some of it you may not want to know, but should know. It all in the name of nature!
