Fastnacht (Kinkling) Day is on Shrove (Fat) Tuesday, that is, the day before Ash Wednesday when lent starts. Kinklings are raised doughnuts, and are made practically as many different ways as there are different cooks. Everyone has their own way of "preparing" them, too. Usually confectioner sugar covers them - and King syrup is great on them!
Off to get ready for yoga. It is chilly here this morning, some snow over night.

Was reading back some and saw that WVsUSAn had seen a hawk w/white belly. Although there are a few I've never seen, lately I've noticed that the red-tailed seems to have a real pale chest. I posted a pic of one in the sun down at the bottom of Dec.'11--called Park Birds from 12-3.

LOL, some folks are obviously well aware of the camera. Others are oblivious, just a-scratcin' and a-pickin' as if there was no one else around. Loved watching a guy try and try to tie his jacket sleeves around his girth. Finally gave up and looped it over his arm. This candid camera could be addictive !

Just finished my walk. It went by faster watching Maid Gras. Did you see the lady that stopped and waved and waved while she called everyone she ever knew? Then she pulled down her blouse to expose more cleavage. Takes all kinds!!

Used to get to ride on the float of the Krewe of Ponchartrain with my Dad when I was young. It was fun.
That parade is typically one of the early parades in Mardi Gras, some 10 days before Fat Tuesday!!
Too bad we can't find a Cam on Lake Charles Ave. or Canal Street. That is usually where the main parade route is!!
I don't know how safe it is there anymore, but years ago it was kid friendly!!

Observation: Post office and Library no longer have tax forms and booklets. But you can DOWNLOAD the forms and booklets, or do your taxes online. DUH. To do this, you NEED A COMPUTER!!!!!! Very grateful to have use of the one at work!

Guess what? I took the walk at Liberty last Saturday for a bird count for the Great Backyard Bird Count weekend. Thought it would be great given all the bird we saw the Saturday before. Well, mother nature is goofy. I saw ONE cardinal....couldn't even find TWO!!! ONE bluebird, ONE Junco, but hey, I got TWO Turkey Vultures! It was a joke!!
BUT....as the third TV started soaring towards me, I put the binos to my eyes........EAGLE!!!!!!!
gotta run for now....I'll try to check in again before I leave for the day!

When I got dressed for my appt My pants were so baggie and then all at once I remembered in the bottom of the closet all the pants that I never got rid of and now I have good fitting pants on and to wear so glad I didn't get rid of them I have pink jeans on now with my OMA tshirt which has pink and purple writing I have always wore different colored jeans Odd I am I guess My son made fun of my sandals last nite the ones with the zipper in back He just doesn't know fashion LOL

DMO, I am sending you a list of books recommended by the 8th grade kids in our honors English class. I have never heard of most of them, but the kids were very happy to write down titles they would recommend when I explained what I needed and passed out index cards.
Oh yeah, and Jake Hudson asked if he could include his phone number for me to pass along to Annamarie! He's a character - his mom is the principal at another middle school in our district! =) Give me 10 - 15 minutes to compile the list and then check your email!

They delivered my wooden stand can't believe how good it goes with my end table and my coffee table. Plus all the other wooden things. WOW this 55" tv is so beautiful Sony, 3D...wow what will I be watching!!! Best Buy did so great I had to call in and tell them about the 2 guys they sent out A+. They hooked up everthing even the guy went online and found the number to work my comcast remote before comcast could give it to me lol

Nest cam starting to get its blue tint.
Comcast blew up my other tv. I really did not need this expense at this time. I had a 50" and they don't have that so I did the 55". Comcast. said they are going to pay for some of this tv. I will wait and see if they truly do????

OK, back to my lesson planning! Must stay focused on introducing statistics to kids who can't multiply 6 X 7 w/out their calculator!!

Annemarie just asked if she could come and meet everyone in the spring. It's okay right?
JUDY, times tables are done in elementary school but, IMO, there is far too little emphasis on mastery!! By 8th grade, I can't be focused on teaching my kids their times tables; I just hand 'em a calculator! But it's sad! Some kids have a real math disability and just can't retain their facts but, for most, it's just that their teachers in elem. school were pressured to move on and their parents didn't do their job and drill facts at home.
Tell Annamarie I'd LOVE to meet her ... and ask her if she'd like me to bring Jake with me! I'm sure he'd love to meet her!! OK, I AM getting back to work right now!!
