Have a great day.

thanks Queen of the New Threads:)

Mits said...

just called Suzanne to let her know about the BWE chick, hoping when she gets to a computer she will see it, sent her some good pictures, also sent some to Lisa:)

hedgie said...

Shirley, good capture of BWE! Send it to Lisa! Maybe you and Mits caught the same one, but Lisa can select.

Have a good day,Paula. Don't overdo!

Ceil, don't run off!!

Sorry about more snow your way, Dana2, but better than the "up to 16" they predicted for you yesterday!!

Mema Jo said...

Good Morning - So thankful we got just the dusting - snow on car has melted already. Of course I really don't need to go anywhere today.
Thanks for the call over Ceil
Thanks for setting the automated thread while you're away Steve (As per Margy's remarks yesterday) Might be a good thing to have that as a feature all the time.

Mema Jo said...

Welcome Laura - Thanks Mits for posting all the info concerning Snowflake and Dan (Valmont owls)
Hopefully they'll have another clutch.

Mema Jo said...

I had sent a Congratulation's email to Lisa. Don't know how she does it but
she took the time to send a reply of 'Thank you' .

Mema Jo said...

In about 3 weeks all this celebration will be for our nest!

chick in view again

Judie said...

Good morning, everyone.

Jo, I was babbling last night. Needed one of Lolly's Mojitos.

Lynn, exams next week, 100 online assignments to read this weekend, no help with anything.

As for the honor -- yes, it is special. Of course, I'm destitute from paying all the students to nominate me.

Dusting of snow here but now have lovely sunshine.

Shirley, I am so sorry about the laundry room mess but glad George is feeling better.

Speaking of laundry rooms, can you believe that the new washer has a leak? Not a serious leak but still...

Paula, hope all the snow has melted at your Mom's and the day will be much easier for you.

Not sure I understand what happened at Valmont -- territorial dispute with an injured owl and take it eggs were left unattended too long? Wish it weren't so.

Hi to all others here this morning.

Off to begin grading. BBL

kickngbird said...

Egg check - couldn't tell if it was rolled - looked mostly like fluff was being pecked at - but I was able to see the egg. Seemed to be mainly a stand up and stretch break

Mema Jo said...

Good morning Judie and Kickngbird!
Keep focused Judie - lots of reading
and grading! I agree with Ceil about you have some very smart students who selected you for the honor! I don't believe you had to pay them... lol
I'm sure you just fluttered your eye lashes and that did the trick!

Mema Jo said...

Off for 2nd cup of coffee and some
street clothes!

Oh my, Judie. I am sure you have called the washer people.

02/27/10:
Chick Alert!

Our first chick hatched around 5:30 Friday night. So far it appears to be doing very well and getting its first meals.

We expect the second to hatch in the next couple days.

Thanks to all those sending in photos of our family.

Mema Jo said...

The pic of BWE feeding is what I want
to see in our own nest in a few weeks!
Love those little gray fluff balls!

T-Bird said...

Good morning everyone. Good to hear there is a chick at BWE.

Mema Jo said...

I got 2nd cup of coffee and was surfing the cams (penguin pool was being cleaned and clouded leopard cubs were sleeping in the incubator) BUT I didn't get my street clothes yet!
So here I go again.......

Hedgie, I read the tsunami can strike the coasts of most countries around the Pacific rim.

Especially islands and island continents like Australia. They travel very quickly and hit almost without warning. But many countries have pooled resources to build an early warning and measuring network.

Would you believe I typed all that and I haven't even had a sip of coffee yet?? MHC...WTTYL. ):~D)

Good morning! Watching CNN...terrible damage.

Enjoyed a great evening of reading. Need to do that more often. Sorry I missed TJ last night. He adds such good information.

Judie, congratulations! I read your first post about this, but just wasn't sure what you were telling us. How much did you pay them? ☺ No, seriously, that is a great honor. Proud of you!!!!

Lolly said...

Up to 55 and we have bright sunshine. Hurts the eyes! Have grown used to dark, dreary days!

Lolly said...

Got a good glimpse of the new little chick, but did not get a picture.

Lolly said...

Fluff rearranging, egg rolling at our nest.

movin said...

It has been raining on Catalina ... here too ... and whether she has laid an egg or not, WE female is tenting the nest. So, it looks like they are going to be satisfied with a half-size nest this year. I was wondering if they would wait until the whole top of the rock was covered with sticks and fluff or not.

Lolly said...

Mits, did you get a good look at the BWE egg? It has a good crack in it. Got a pic.

Mits said...

yes, been watching it all morning, told Lisa it looks like the hatch could happen sooner rather than later, I think she laid these 2 closer together, but just can't remember how close

Lolly said...

Posted a feeding pic of BWE on Eagle pic blog

Mits said...

it is such a nice view at BWE, wish it could refesh sooner, or be live, but a good view none the less:)

Costume Lady said...

I tuned in on BWE and to my surprise, the chick was having lunch! I had forgotten how small they are when first hatched. Oh, to see such a big, awesome bird be so gentle, just stirs the senses! Nature at it's finest! We have seen Nature at it's worst many times, but now we see it at it's finest!

Judie said...

Quick visit.

Hi Thelma. Hope you get to feeling better soon as in NOW!

Thing about Hawaii and a tsunami is there just isn't much of anywhere to escape to -- I suppose people head up into the higher elevations of mountains and high volcanic rock formations. Prayers that no one is hurt or killed and animals are protected. Hang on tight Andy and Jim -- advisory warnings for U.S. west coast.

Jim, can't wait to read how chatty you will be after your coffee -- good morning!

Jo, I truly wish fluttering my 65 year old eye lashes would work -- those days are memories. Only fluttering these days is trying to keep my eyes open.

Used the washer this a.m. with no leak. Strange.

Back to reading/grading - painful experience.

Need to check critter cams sometime soon. Missing all the action.

BBL

Mits said...

for sure Wanda, and I have a part in my heart for BWE, since I have visited there, and Lisa is so generous in her sharing info with us...

Mits said...

Judie, maybe the washer went potty:(

Costume Lady said...

Helen, I was just thinking about the clarity of BWE cam, thinking it must have cost a great deal of money. Wonder why they couldn't have sound and live feed?
Our cam seems to be low quality, but that is better seeing as how we have live feed and sound. I prefer to have a lesser picture with live feed. That 30 sec. thingy drives me crazy! Duh, duh, duh........

Lolly said...

Mit!!!!! lol

Have mailed a pic to Lisa.

Lolly said...

Up now to 60!!!! Need to head outside.

BBL

Costume Lady said...

Judie, your 65 yr. old eyelashes are very pretty...I have a photo to prove it, BUT, it is on my old computer:(:(:(
When I retrieve it, I will post it!
You ARE a SUPER person and that is why you were honored as such!:)

Costume Lady said...

LOLLY...60°? Don't want to hear it!

Costume Lady said...

I'm working on putting things away in my newly re-arranged office. I just hung up DEB'S calendar and it truly brought tears...can't believe that such a fine person has been taken from us???
On a happier note...I have placed that BEAUTIFUL paper weight that Margy gave me with the image of an eagle etched inside, on my desk:)
Love it Margy:)

Mits said...

got some things to do, ttual....yes I like our live feed, does still have some bugs in it I thought would have be taken care of by now, but you know, it is what it is...

PA Nana said...

Hi everyone. Been lurking since this morning. Also looking at BWE and it sure looks like the second chick is looking for a way out.

I had 3 eagle cams open at once and checking back to the blog has left me dizzy. Call me dizzy di.

Judie, you so funny! I love your posts. Congrats on the good seats.

Thelma sure hope all is well with you.

Shirley I hope by now your day is going better.

Oh, Judie, the new washer I believe you said it was a front loader. I have one too and it spits and spurts sometimes when I open the door and before I can wipe the rubber gasket. Maybe? Hope it's nothing serious.

So sorry to hear about the owls. I did see one sitting on the perch outside the nest. Hope for the best.

Terrible about the earthquake. Our former son-in-law's family was from Chile. I just sent him a message on fb and hope their family if okay. Jim & Andy watch out for high water.

... later

Costume Lady said...

I am hoping that the bugs our live feed has, have not been fixed yet because of all the snow and bad weather we have been having.
It really is aggravating to have it stop every few seconds and BUZZZZZ so much. But at least it moves:)

hedgie said...

It's nice to have Lily cam without the hum, too!

Yesterday I got a call from Christine and played the guessing game because Patrick had just called her from work.... I knew that the sights for reassignment that were turned down were in MD and VA. So I named NY
no .... GA ... no.. then I said North Carolina YES !!!

Ft Bragg! Here is her comment on FB:
The cat's out of the bag, we got Fort Bragg!!!! We are so happy now we are just keeping our fingers crossed that we will get out of here before another deployment!
The next news will be their date for leaving Germany and you know what - it could be as early as Nov 2010.....
It is only a 6 1/2 hr drive to see her and the family.
Love you all and thanks for the reassignment prayers!

Mema Jo said...

Closer to our family than I realized:
My niece's son is in the Coast guard stationed in HI - Here's the lastest
Garrett has moved to "high ground" in Maui, awaiting the tsunami....he has EMT status, so he stayed on shore to help in case of injuries. He said if it's what they expect, some of the swanky hotels will have the first couple floors under water. We'll have to wait and see. Val(my niece) talked with him and shared the news. I(grandmother) texted him first thing this morning when I heard, but did not hear back from him. She said he has his phone off (saving the battery) and in a safe, waterproof place, hoping to be able to use later.
We are watching Fox News, which will be broadcasting live from Hawaii. Should happen in about 4 minutes.

Mema Jo said...

Prayers for him and all affected by this severe weather.

Off to Mass is a few minutes.

Lolly said...

Have the atlas out. Have been to the Big Island. Stayed on the west coast but drove all around the island. Drove to Hilo. Watching to see what happens.

Lolly said...

High today was 64. Starting to cool off a little. Worked and got a little done, but Jack's back would not allow us to do a whole lot.

Dana Gray said...

Mema Jo...NC is great news!
watching hawaii on CNN..prayers to everyone there

hedgie said...

THis stuff is so interesting to me. When I was a kid, I only wanted to be a meteorologist....was told I didn't have the needed math/science smarts! Boo....
Jo, hope your family member will be safe.
Wonderful news about Patrick and family!!

hedgie said...

Well, poop.....it is snowing again...

Costume Lady said...

I don't know about the other Hawaiian Islands, but we were on Oahu, and it is very small. I think something like 2 miles wide and not very long. I would think it wouldn't take much to wipe that Island off the map! It's just a WAIT AND SEE SITUATION...prayers for all, that they come safely through this emergency. Prayers for the families of Chile.

Good Evening Everyone in Eagleland. Haven't read a word yet.
Nothing real exciting naturewise at Park today, but they had a big show yesterday! Greg, our naturalist said a female eagle was eating a fish on the osprey platform & a juvie kept harassing her. She chased him away. Later she left & 2 other juvies came to fuss over the fish, so they saw total of 4 eagles!
Also learned that thrush I posted as a Wood is really a Hermit Thrush. Lynne2, you were right~~~they do migrate.

NatureNut said...

Margie,

Not a mockingbird. I know them. They try to take over our yard in the summer. Don't know about the towhee, but all I saw was black and white. I will have to keep looking.

Lolly said...

Hi Margy! Yes, gas prices have been going up here as well. Up and down, up and down! $2.56 is what I saw, I think.

Have really been lazy. After working in the yard I read and then took a short nap. Dinner cooking now. Jack is grilling pork chops and I have thrown a potato in the oven. An easy meal!

Did send the picture to Lisa. First time I have done that.

Yea, Jo. Know how excited you are to have your family come home. Did you say it will be November? Still have a wait!

magpie said...

Well, maybe it WAS Me Shirley...

or some other kind of strange variant

Upside down computer screen. . . . This was the first time it had been upside down. It had been sideways a couple of times.

I had put the laptop in a chair today. Maybe George walked across the keyboard, or maybe I just hit the keys when I moved the computer. The first time it happened was at school and a helpful(?) young man came and fixed it.

I remembered that he said something about the arrow keys, which was helpful the second time it went sideways (George does like to walk on the keyboard) because I called for Will, but he wasn't sure how to fix it. I didn't see exactly what he did, but I told him about the arrow keys.

It is hard to use the mouse when the screen is upside down.

Lolly said...

Never had that happen to me, Shirley. Have had the task bar move and not know why.

Annie has never walked across the keyboard. I have it on my lap and she carefully walks across my chest as I sit her in my lazyboy.lol

paula eagleholic said...

Evening, all!

Jo, glad the Germany gang will be fairly close...there could be worse places!

Sounds like our nest was fairly quiet today.

Glad to hear the BW chick had a couple of meals! And the second on the way!

Heard about the earthquake and Tsunami warnings this morning before I left...haven't heard any news all day.

paula eagleholic said...

Just read that most places have dodged the tsunami bullet...still warnings for Japan, Russia and pacific islands

Everything fine down at Mom's, deck was down to just a foot of snow...brothers took care of that. Got all the floors and bathrooms cleaned.

Had a surprise phone call on the way home this afternoon. DIL is in the hospital with kidney stones. The went in around 2am this morning. The pain was so bad, she was having contractions, which stopped when they got the pain under control. She is still there and will be there until she passes it. They have her on an IV, drinking fluids, walking. Pain meds go in thru IV, she was happy the last dose lasted over 6 hours.

They don't want to send her home cause they can't give her anything strong enough (and safe for baby) to manage the pain at home. So she will stay there until she passes the stone(s). No ultrasound until tomorrow to check the stones progress.

So I stopped and stayed at hospital with her this afternoon into the evening.

She will be OK, just not fun being in hospital.

If she stays past Monday, I'll take Tuesday off to watch the kids.

Lolly said...

Paula, did you accomplish all that you set out to do today?

Watched the tsunami coverage today. It was very interesting.

Lolly said...

lol You answered while I was asking!

paula eagleholic said...

Glad we got the deck cleared of snow, a realtor came by today while we were there to show the house...wet floors and all...so had to redo some, but that was OK. Nice young couple with cute kid. My brother said that's the kind of family I would love to see buy the house...I agreed.

Lolly said...

Oh, so sorry about your DIL. I have forgotten, how far along is she? When is the baby due?

Lolly said...

I am sure it helped to have the couple see that the house is being cared for.

magpie said...

Oh Paula, sorry about your daughter-in-law's ailment, sounds painful and uncomfortable....
hope everything will be back to normal very soon...

sounds like a good day at the house...

Why not take Tuesday off anyway and have fun with the kids ☺

Judie said...

Shirley, when the computer screen is upside down it helps to turn the mouse upside down -- works better that way.

Mits, if the washer went potty, it had best get itself potty trained and soon! I don't pampers.

Margy, the night bandit is a notorious thief and strikes often and without warning. It also has the ability to change its M.O. without notice -- may strike day or night. I have issued a BOLO and anyone who spots this bandit is authorized to shoot to kill. Will also issued an APB effective throughout Wild and Wonderful WV.

Prayers for all affected by the tsunami.

BBL to say goodnight.

Hey Margy and Judie and sister.
Going to call it a night. Restful sleep to all

hedgie said...

Oh, PAula, so sorry for your DIL. What a miserable thing to have to deal with. Is her due date in April?

Shirley, I keep laughing about your upside down screen....have had lots of weird things 0on my puters over the years, but never that!
One of the things that bugs me like crazy is when I end up with a magnifier on my PC---don't know how it happens, and can never figure out how to get rid of it short of rebooting!

Costume Lady said...

Paula, how awful for your D-I-L to have kidney stones along with the discomfort she must be having now, being so great with child! Maybe she will pass the little girl, along with the stone. What part of April is she due?
Prayers that her stone passes right away!

paula eagleholic said...

Ajay is 32 weeks...8 more to go...due April 23. I didn't realize this is the second time she has had kidney stones...first time was right after she and John started dating.

hedgie said...

Judie, think I heard that BOLO! LOL!!
Hope your washer has stopped leaking for good. And remember to wipe gasket dry after use and leave door open to eliminate the mold and odors that are making the headlines.

Mits, so glad you got to spend time with the little ones. Is Maggie completely recovered from the pneumonia?

paula eagleholic said...

No, Wanda, we can wait to see her!

Costume Lady said...

Shirley, did I tell you that my new computer has ROMAN NUMERALS?
I paid extra for that:)

paula eagleholic said...

Helen, glad you got to see your grandkids! How big is Ben now?

paula eagleholic said...

I mean size wise...I know he's 4 months...

Costume Lady said...

That makes her nearly 2 months away from due date...too soon now.
I had Karla a month early, no problems with her, except she was a little bit of a sour baby. Had to stand on your head to make her laugh! She laughs very easily and often now:)

Margy - train roundhouse sounds great. Boys love trains. I passed today the area that the trolley museuem down near Mom's was. darn have never been to the trolley place, love to see train gardens....Ben is around 14lbs, Maggie was only 14lbs when she was a year old, Lynn she seems really fine, I didn't feel any of the congestion in her back, but she is still so tiny and fragile, forgot to ask about pictures...I mean when you visit it is like a wild house there...Maggie and Molly play really nice together, Kevin and Jay and Annie watched most of the Mount Saint Mary's game, and they pulled out a win.....

headed for night-night, take care everyone:)

Paula, I remember the trolley museum. Also remember riding the "streetcars" as we called them when I was little!

hedgie said...

Oh my, what a big boy Ben is! Christie was only 14# at a year, too.
rest well, dear Mits.

Paula, prayers for your daughter in law.

Judie, I will remember to try the upside down mouse if I need it. Problem is, I sometimes get the mouse turned upside down when the screen is fine. Senior moment, perhaps.

Wanda, you are really on the lookout for that garland. It keeps showing up on your blog.

I hope you didn't pay too much extra for the Roman numeral keys. Um, perhaps I can sell you a bridge . . .

Will got a FaceBook message from one of his high school friends who spent today hiding on a mountain in Hawaii.

Glad to hear the Mount won...was thinking about going to it...but other things happened.

That's pretty good size, Mits. He'll be a handfull soon!

Forgot you know some of that area, Lynne...cool.

All of the tsunami talk reminds me of a man we met in California when we went there for a conference years ago. We stayed on the ocean side of the hotel where the waves sounded really loud. He wouldn't stay on the ocean side because he was afraid of a tsunami. He was Japanese, and I thought about his fear when I listened to those waves.

Going to say good night. My brain is getting scrambled again.

stronghunter said...

Good night, Mits. It sounds like there is a lot of fun going on in that active house.

Judie said...

Oh Wow. That BOLO worked really fast. The shiny garland has been photographed with the angel's head. Now to find the angel's body of evidence!

Lynn, glad the tooth isn't agonizing.

Shirley, if the upside down mouse doesn't work try turning the computer upside down. Hope Will's friend is okay. Sounds as if HI escaped.

Margy, glad James is improving and know you two will enjoy the train museum.

Speaking of trains, surprised Sharon hasn't jumped on the TRAIN tonight.

Okay, brain tired from grading wannabe adults assignments. So far, one paper that strongly suggests plagiarism. Do wish I didn't have to deal with these things.

Will be back tomorrow. Turning my light off but leaving the night light on for others. Andy, if you come in, will you set the alarm for us, please? Goodnight, everyone.

Looked at all the pics on BWE Cam Gallery - I always marvel at the smallness of the newborn eaglets!

Caught up with you all... Well not all of you because some have already gone back the hallway.
Paula - Wishing the young couple will be the ones to bring life back into your mom's home. And oh how I pray that Ajay's stone(s) passes quickly and soon! Maybe it is already gone!
Mits - so happy to hear you went visiting today! Ben is going to protect those sisters when he grows up!

Lynn - I feel like I have been
Down Under! Steak, potato and salad

No dessert!

Hi, Everyone,
Have been trying to read some of today's blog and catch up. Not an easy task!

Judie, congratulations! Professor of the year! Proud of you--and glad the young-uns appreciate you so!

Shirley, sorry about the laundry room mess! Glad that all got worked out, and hope George is still feeling OK.

Mema Jo, YAY!!!!!! Fort Bragg!!! So happy for you! That's wonderful!

Paula, sorry to hear about your DIL's kidney stone. Prayers for her swift recovery.

Prayers, too, for the earthquake victims. That was QUITE a shaker, at 8.8! I remember hearing that on the Richter Scale, an 8.0 quake is TEN times worse than a 7.0. That one was nearly a 9, for heaven's sake! Sounds like HI dodged the bullet, so to speak, thank GOD!
Our coast is in pretty good shape, too, and am grateful for that, too.
Hear that Long Beach harbor had a weird thing happen that's a symptom of a tsunami, but it wasn't extreme.
The water pulled way back from the shore, so much so that some moored boats were left nearly sitting on the bottom, and then the tide came back in, higher than usual. One boat dock became unattached, but no other damage mentioned. It rained cats & dogs here today, a real gully washer at times, but has stopped for now.

Oh--almost forgot! Checked the hummer cam, and Phoebe layed a 2nd egg at 6:27 am PST this morning!

Well, getting tired, so am going to say adios for tonight. Prayers being said for everyone. The night light is burning brightly, the porch light is on, and the eye scanner is enabled. Sleep tight, stay warm, and I'll talk to you tomorrow. Good night! Love you guys! :o]

Hi Megan
and other Sunday People ☺

I was in Washington DC enough as a youngster that I actually rode on the trolleys a few times, and will never forget the way it was when my Dad was driving the car over those trolley tracks, and then the mess when they had to pull them all up over the years...

glo said...

Good morning everyone. Has the wind stopped at the nest yet so I can watch and listen to the cam/ Heading that way to turn it on and enjoy without snow or howling wind. Life is Good. Coffee and dog treats are good. Well it certainly appears that the dog treats are good. Speaking of which Dex and i went strolling yesterday. He was so happy to be in that stroller again. W doged the ice and snow a little but mostly at least on the sunny side of the street it was pretty clear. We looked funny for sure but my dog was smiling. Yes He Was :-)

Shirley

was looking in bird book for another bird that would resemble a Magpie...can only come up with Northern Shrike or Loggerhead Shrike, not real likely it would been that, so it must have been Me there..
I am still looking and hope someone else will come up with some suggestions

TTFN now xo ☺ ♥

Good Sunday morning everyone...I told Lisa I thought that egg was going to hatch sooner rather than later, the color variations in it yesterday, just looked like it was ready...they did an excellent job of incubating, and now they are relatively close in size, which is a good thing
