Thanks, Steve, and thanks for the call over, Loretta!
Have been checking out the hummer nest--Mom took off for a couple minutes, and the 2 babies are just adorable! Mom's back now, to keep the little ones warm.
Lynn, no, that particular article was the obit for the man they were speaking of....it sort of described him. On the news, they EA Poe society leader was discussing why they SUSPECTED it was him. He would have picked up where the last visitor took off, but since no one visited the grave this year, they aren't sure if this is the end.
All this talk of flowers is giving me SPRING FEVER! I can't wait to expand on the few things we did around the house outside in the fall when we moved in. I've got big plans!! I'll just have to train Crazy (her new nickname) to say out of the flower beds!
Speaking of Crazy, the rescue has offered us another dog and will waive the adoption fee!!! It's a smaller terrier mix, 3 years old. One of the others we considered. Hard to decide what to do...on one hand Crazy Daisy would probably LOVE another dog to play with. I always like having more than one dog. On the other hand, having 2 makes traveling and camping somewhat more difficult. The bigger concern would be that if something ever happened and we had to move, having 2 dogs would make finding another place possibly more difficult. Unless we hit the lottery, it's not likely that we'll ever own our own place.
Does anyone know what a SORA is? I saw it in an old book I was reading last night in tub---a Civil War story---it was in reference to a special meal at the wedding reception of Gen. Pickett. Looked it up and here is info:
A second finely carved gilt wood sculpture of an American eagle about to pounce, wings outstretched. Formerly hanging in the entryway of Tavern on the Green. H46" x 74"
I'll ask Christie tonight if she remembers that eagle, Jo. She was there a few years ago. I loved the sora sounds, too---it sounds very familiar so maybe there are some around here! Have some swampy ponds nearby.
Tuesday, January 19, 2010 “Getting Ready” The eagles at the Norfolk Botanical Garden continue to mate as we grow closer to an eventual 1st egg laying date. When will the first egg arrive? Only the eagles know. Both of the adults continue to work on the nest - bringing sticks and arranging the nest materials to create a well formed nest cup.
Bald Eagles typically lay a clutch of two eggs although nests of one or even three eggs occur as well. In fact this pair has a history of three egg clutches. The eggs are typically laid over a period of 3-6 days.
Be sure to check out Nature on PBS this Sunday (Jan. 24th) for an airing of "Bald Eagle" http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/american-eagle/introduction/4201/. As with all of the Nature programs this is an exceptional program and a great look at the bald eagle.
Very bad weather situation entering my area, Hopefully will keep my power but icing is happening very quickly now. Watch for Eagles not Owls tonight :-) I would so rather have the snow than the ice.
Be thinking of you Glo and praying that the weather doesn't become too severe or last too long. Of course what you have today We will have in a day or two.
It won't be much longer before we get an overnight visitor in our nest! We'll keep watching for Belle after midnight!
Right around New Year's we did see a big 'V' formation of what looked like graylag geese flying over the house. They may have been from a park with a lake nearby, or from the Santa Ana riverbed. They were headed from northeast to southwest.
Paula, I kinda figured that from seeing a chicken once, and a bird at the vet where I worked. I was thinking maybe she was "working up" an egg to lay while she was laying there!
Funny how Pook talks about lack of snow-----ground has been covered for quite some time! LOL!! Great pic of the new guy! Glo, hang in there---hope the power stays on!
It's getting cold here again--going to go get some more coffee in my mug to warm my hands up! Considering a hot shower to warm the rest of me, too! BBIALW...
my next door neighbor, is one of the big realtors in this area....has a client who wants to buy our house.....hubby does not want to sell just yet, I'm ready to go:). We have lived here almost 26 yrs, and this is about the 3rd time someone has wanted to buy the house. I say go for it...hubby does not like change.
Glo - just got the copy online of the magazine featuring your photo of the eagle in the Summary of Threatened and Endangered Species taken at Rock Island Arsenal ! You are now a published photographer. I have bookmarked it and plan to read some of it - very educaitonal. Also will send to my sil with the Nat'l Park's Service. Thanks and I am proud to know you!
my 1st preference is Annapolis, Jo, but there is a place near Columbia, MD, that Annie wants us to move to, to be closer to them....can't remember the sub-division, but has some new condos, which is what I want....
Mits, too bad Jay isn't itching with the bug the way you are. Unsolicited offers can often be the best ones! If I were you, I'd still opt for Annapolis!!! A little distance is a good thing! Time to get ready to head out. Haircut and perm, and then to grocery store for dog food and Sandwich Spread! See you this evening!
That is remarkable selling power, Mits. Maybe when hubby hears that news he will do some serious thinking. Not sure if I were you as to where I would want to relocate - Grandkids always help me make decisions!
Leaving for a quick shower and street clothes. I do want to run some errands. I really just want to get out and get some of that fresh air with sunshine !
Good morning! I am really running late today. Took forever to read through the blog.
My Wanda purple columbine is coming up. Do not know if it will bloom this year or not, but if it does my purple and yellow columbine garden will NOT be a Viking garden!! lol
Poinsettias....love them! Mine always last...I have two still looking beautiful. Have only had one to rebloom the following year and it was not all that pretty. Where I was born and raised my mother and grandmother both had poinsettias outside and as big as the house and they were beautiful. Guess that is why I love them so!
Well Camera club is cancelled for tonight. Except for skating in and out a couple of times with Dex, we can stay home and dry and not miss somehting I really wanted to attend. Thanks MeMa Jo for your kind comments. I don't know how to put the link on Momster site. I guess I could try to get it on here. I can never follow links to anything on the Momster mail. Not sure if it is a setting or not but they never work for me. I miss a lot that way I know.

thanks, Loretta, sure was a lot clearer, wasn't it?
looks like Jo finished the cognac;)
That could be a problem, those cookies are disapearing quickly.
You know what? it is either this computer keyboard or this chair I am now using as it has arms on it that get in my way.

I heard that Mits LOL
Once again I must mention about the write up on Lily's departure from the log yesterday stating that she went to the loo!
That would be cool if Lily had her cub(s) on her own birthday! Special for sure.
Loretta, you never answered my question!!! I'll have to email you!
Shirley, sorry you are having trouble. Missed you yesterday. Are you getitng any of the mixed precip?
oops, thought you would skim right past that one JO:)
Morning, all!
Enjoying the eagle in our nest!
Wanda - you will definitely be able to see the chicks in our nest....what may be hard to see is the pip hole!
Ha, by the time I posted this on the other thread...we have a new one!
think I will go out and buy a bigger magnifying glass;)
Poof! MT nest.
Yes Jo, she went to the loo but she also came back before hours had passed! :)
Eagle poofed!
Check out the headless fish at BWE nest
Exactly, no one had to organize a search party to find her...
Does anyone know what a SORA is? I saw it in an old book I was reading last night in tub---a Civil War story---it was in reference to a special meal at the wedding reception of Gen. Pickett. Looked it up and here is info:

The Sora - what a beautiful bird call that is.
I like Lily's style, doing housework while laying down.
eagle just sitting there at BWE, not eating the fish yet.
Eagle at BWE...must be waiting on the lady (wink, wink)
Oops, poofed at BWE!
probably going out to find her:)
Over on the earlier thread trying to catch up. How about that carved eagle at auction. Wonder how large it was.
BBILW
Jo sent you a pic.....
A second finely carved gilt wood sculpture of an American eagle about to pounce, wings outstretched. Formerly hanging in the entryway of Tavern on the Green. H46" x 74"

I loved the sora sounds, too---it sounds very familiar so maybe there are some around here! Have some swampy ponds nearby.
Mits, send me the pic, too, please!??!
Just played the Sora song, Crazy Daisy jumped up from a sound sleep in the sun and almost knocked me off the chair trying to get to the computer!
I did Lynn.:)
wow, i lost picture on all 3 of the eagle cams at once, briefly
Thanks for the Sora info, Lynn! Learn something new every day!
eagle laying down in nest at NBG...could she be laying and egg?
I like that bird call too, Jo! Could be we've had some of them out here along our riverbed, but don't remember seeing any.
Guess I'll have to stick to Sissy's
George statue!
Lynne I think it is time for NBG to get an egg in the nest. I really don't keep statistics but it is usually NBG then BWE then NCTC.
I love that fish in the BWE nest.
They haven't returned to eat it yet.
got up and laid back in again
Go over to Moose cam - it is current and Pook has a new comment about
Moose #12
oh my...glad for the moment I don't have a job....so much going on!!!! Plus Lily! SO exciting!!!!

Eagle back at BWE
thanks for that info, Mits!
Glo, hope you and Dex stay safe in this next round of bad weather.
Paula, I kinda figured that from seeing a chicken once, and a bird at the vet where I worked. I was thinking maybe she was "working up" an egg to lay while she was laying there!
Glo, I'm praying that the weather isn't too bad for you and Dex, too. Certainly hope you don't lose your power!
Sidekick is a cute name! My Sis-in-law says they have a cat at their tux shop--they named him 'Mousetrap'! Very appropriate!
Funny how Pook talks about lack of snow-----ground has been covered for quite some time! LOL!! Great pic of the new guy!
Glo, hang in there---hope the power stays on!
No email yet, Mits, but thanks!
Okay---just got it! 46"x74" is a GOOD sized carving!!! Wow---wouldn't have anyplace big enough here for it anyway!
