Thursday

The cam is obviously giving us a great deal of trouble.  Yesterday afternoon we determined that the damage caused last week by the wind also impacted the power supply to the cam and perhaps the cam as well.  We are working closely with a top Fish and Wildlife Service Bald Eagle expert on the best time to go up in the nest at this late time to replace the cam and cables.  Right now, the window for doing this is mid next week.  More when we know it.

New thread.

Students are taking a practice SOL test this morning, so it is very peaceful here.

I see that most of West Virginia is expected to get snow tonight and tomorrow. We are expecting to get some as well. As cold as the ground is, it will stick for sure. We still have spots of snow and plenty of piles from the storm before Christmas.

I'm telling my students to take their research paper materials home tonight because there's a chance we won't be here tomomorrow.

I do hope little Maggie is better today. It is so hard to have a little one in the hospital.

I am hoping all goes well with the camera repairs. We do want to see our eagles. Thanks to those at NCTC who are working on the problem.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Good morning everybody. I had a beautiful sunrise here this morning but was too lazy to get up and get the camera! My cough is getting better but tummy still hurts pretty bad. Really grateful that the cough is getting better though.

Been thinking about Maggie this morning. I pray that nasty crap is leaving her little lungs!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE...
Big thanks to STEVE for letting us know what has been going on at the SYCAMORE PALACE. The situation sounds very ominus and iffy:(
How awful for us if we do not get to see the finishing touches to the nest, the bonding HPs and the laying of the first egg and the hatching of it!:(:(:(

grannyblt said...

Morning all...freezing drizzle here and the storm to come this afternoon..what fun ;(.

Hope they can get the cam fixed without upsetting Lib and Belle.

Costume Lady said...

Me too, Lynne. We have waited a whole year for the happenings of this month...it would be awful to miss it!

NatureNut said...

Steve, crossing our fingers that work can be done. Thx to all the NCTC crew!
Morning Everyone! Sunny, but wind picking up a little here. Hope there isn't much bad weather this evening.
Went out w/coffee & little squirrel buddy, Shorty, came for peanuts! Fubby said she brought a friend earlier this morning & he wasn't too frightened. Maybe he's in training! ☺
Gotta look at pics from Park & see if any are decent enough to put on blog.
Prayers for little Maggie~~~

glo said...

Good morning everyone. Add my prayers for our little Maggie and her family as well. I have never met her but I love her.

I have been to coffee and back. Shoveed snow and fed the birds over and above once again. Its been rough here for days on end now and new snow cover, so shoveled around and under feeders to put some feed on ground and nuts for squirrels too. Its a wildlife winter wonderland.

With all the times we have watched folks go to eagles nests for all kinds of reasons I don't think working at the nest is much of a threat right now IF they get up there very soon. Not after the first egg. Although we certainly have seen folks go to a nest and remove and replace eggs as well. I do hope we can get a working cam and this pair to watch. Its not easy I am sure. Thanks NCTC and staff for all you do.

Costume Lady said...

Love your SHORTY, Loretta. Capt. Gene thinks you are COOL for naming your animal friends:) He does love animals...should have been a Park Ranger or a Vet. He did consider becoming a Vet, but couldn't afford the schooling:(

paula eagleholic said...

Morning, all.

Sad to hear about our cam, but I am thinking they can replace it without disturbing our eagles. They seem rather tolerant, and I don't think a quick trip up into the nest would scare them off.

Seems like middle of the day is the best time...

paula eagleholic said...

Sure going to be a lot of withdrawal symptons until it's fixed though....nothing like watching "your" nest.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Paula, you are exactly right. No nest anywhere does it for me like ours! I know there are some really good cams out there and all of that but . . . I'm just sayin!

paula eagleholic said...

I saw where Margy mentioned she had the Chesapeake Bay Foundation calendar up that has Bob's pics in it. Funny she should mention that...I've had mine up for a month waiting to turn to January...finally did last night...

So I was going to ask every if they had their calendar up yet!

Oh, and had my first oysters of the season last night...some fresh Chincoteagues....yummy!

paula eagleholic said...

And I would guess a limb fell of during the night...it was working into the night and then Andy commented that the cam was blue.

Mema Jo said...

Good Morning Eagle Buddies! Hope we get a report on Maggie today. Prayers for her.

I don't think Lib and Belle will mind the bucket truck paying them a visit.
I agree with Paula and Sharon that there No Nest like Our Nest.

hedgie said...

Morning eagle buds. Waiting to get through to dr. Not feeling well---it's in my chest....argh!

Mema Jo said...

I moved my hair appointment up to this afternoon from tomorrow. Not going out of here if we get 3-4" of the white stuff. I got a card this morning from my personal secretary, Lynne 2, reminding me of the hair cut tomorrow!
She is on the ball! Remember Deb? ♥

Mema Jo said...

Hope you succeed in getting an appointment today, Lynn.

NatureNut said...

Hi Paula, My CBP calendar is up & running! Saw Margy mentioned the cardinal~~~I was almost going to scan it!
Wanda & Gene, since there are several squirrels around, but only this one is almost domestic, we tell most of them apart by their tails! Shorty looks like she had a bad encounter in the past. Tail was too short & squared off at tip. Now she's growing a tuft of fur at the end. A couple that look alike are just RT---Regular Tail, one is Long Tail, & another is Figure 8! It has very sparse fur in center on long, thin tail~~~similar to an 8 laying down!
Now the only disturbing thing is that Shorty had what looked like injury on belly, near nipple. It's a round, pink lump next to nipple. What??? Perhaps growth from scar tissue? Do squirrels get mastitis????
Now I'm considering getting a St. Francis staute for the deck if I keep seeing critters w/problems!

Lynne2 said...

Good morning all!

Sharon, glad you seem to be on the mend finally!

Lynn, I hope whatever was trying to develop last night is GONE this morning.

Continued prayers for Maggie, too.

Thanks to everyone working on our cam...I hope you're right Paula that a middle of the day visit to the nest SOON will not disturb the "love fest" for our tolerant eagles!

Geez Loretta, sounds like a heck of a car ordeal! Hope all goes smoothly...especially given the weather.

Lynn, my friends Joan and Ron live in Etha, SD, very close to Vermillion. They are in their 70's!!! They are having a helluva time with the weather too. She sent me an email last night describing the mess and how they are praying the electric stays on. Then she said she is wondering why she let her husband move them there for 3 months worth of pheasant hunting that he LOVES!!

My mother in law and her husband in Terra Alta have 6 foot drifts in front of the house and garage. They, too, are having a rough time of it. We ALL...family and friends...want them to sell and move somewhere closer and milder. But Jan is balking at putting the house on the market until they get some things fixed up. We are all hoping that THIS will be the winter that forces the decision to move sooner than later on getting it sold.

We are supposed to get more snow overnight tonight and they are warning of a very messy morning rush hour tomorrow...yee haw.

Norma, you are definitely NOT blue! You are a bright yellow ray of sunshine for us on even the cloudiest of days!

Lynne2 said...

awww, Lynn, I'm sorry you are not feeling better. Just read your post that you did while I was typing my novel. Hope you can get to the Dr right away before the weather hits...

good morning everyone, thanks for all the prayers, still waiting to hear if Maggie can come home today. MTBR...Lynn hope you get the meds and rest you need.

hedgie said...

Got my bean soup on the stove....smelling good already! Saw in a newspaper cooking supplement yesterday that the way we make bean soup is called Senatorial Soup. Over a hundred years ago two mid-west senators had it put on the daily menu at the US Capitol---where it remains today! (Maybe why there's so much hot air in DX??!!) Since my grandma came from Iowa, guess that all makes sense! Called mom and she DOES remember it being called that.

Mema Jo said...

That is too wise of a statement Lynn
"Hot Air" Amen

Thanks for well-wishes. Time for another nebulizer treatment. Jo can sympathize!! BBIALW.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Mema Jo said...

Glad you got the appointment Lynn.
Good to hear from you Lynne.

Helen I sure hope you get good news concerning Maggie and that her lung is clear and she can go home

glo said...

Well there is no pair of eagles like the first pair you come to know and watch . I am way overly attached to this pair for sure.
The cam well we surley try hard and enjoy every minute of it that we can.

It is certainly hard to know there is a major problem at the nest level camera wise right now. The cam even had a nice clean lens back a couple of months. I definitely do not want to traumatize Lib and Belle in any way at all. It will however not be the same if we can't enjoy them this year.

Brrrrrrrrrrr!! Good morning! It is 25 here and the temp is dropping although we do have sunshine. Laurel called all happy...school was closed. They had some rain up there just before the cold hit. Also, the wind is so strong it was blowing cars off the road...ice skating cars!

Jack is in the study on a conference call. I do expect him to leave after lunch. He is going to build me a fire before he leaves. Isn't he sweet?!

Lynn, so glad you are quickly getting to the doctor. Please take care!!! Just hate that you are feeling bad.

Lolly said...

Paula, appreciate your thoughts on the cam repair this time of the season. The thought of doing without Belle and Lib is devastating! No nest like our nest!

Thanks to Steve and NCTC for trying to get us back up.

Good late morning, all.

Sharon glad the cough has improved -- the muscles will get better, too. Lynn I hope you get something for relief at the doctor today.both Speical thoughts for little Maggie.

Well, tried to clean up the mess from yesterday's washer repair and to finish the laundry. Well, the tub stopped draining. Darth had dr. checkup this a.m. so will have to tell him when he gets home. Grrrr!

Shirley, I hope points are not deducted from the SOL test because the test-makers know mor than students.

Going back to school work for awhile. Sounds like most everyone is doing okay for now. I'll have to check Deigo's debut.

Costume Lady said...

Lynn, so glad you get to see the doctor today...Dr. B is pretty good at fitting you in if it is important to him. Are you still with him? Prayers that it is an EASY FIX!

Saw a BRIGHT, SHINY object flying in the wind from Big Rig Steve's truck as he flew down I81 yesterday and just now saw a Bright, Shiny flash from Lolly's house. Could it have been Ceil's Christmas decoration or was it Lolly going too fast on her treadmill?

Judie said...

I apologize for my poor manners. Steve, thanks to you and all at NCTC for the hard work. We know you all are trying to get us our live feed panda fix.

Jo, thanks so much fo the video of Diego's debut. Hard to believe how far he's come along.

speaking of pandas....update from NZ.....

Save the Date
Friends of the National Zoo will be hosting a Farewell to Tai Shan event on Saturday, January 30, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Details will be posted here soon.

January 6

Winter is the season for pandas. They arise early and eager for the great outdoors. The keepers cannot place their bamboo fast enough. Appetites are up to speed and everyone is shredding the bamboo culm, or stalk. It is the time of year when you arrive and the indoor enclosures are completely destroyed by shredded bamboo culm, and there is poop everywhere! Just to make it especially messy, the pandas have also jumped in and out of their pools a few times, so everything is very wet. Pandas are poor processors of bamboo, having the typical short intestinal tract of a carnivore. Seventy-five percent of what they eat passes right on through! Hence their energy-conserving lifestyle of sleeping and eating. And passing out fibrous poop.

After watching the pandas go wild over the years in our usual six-inch snowfalls, it was interesting to see their reaction to 17 inches, which we got just before Christmas. Apparently, it was over the threshold for play, and the trio chose to mostly hang out by the buildings and fence lines where the keepers had previously shoveled. When they did venture out, with great effort, their low-hung bodies made perfect ploughs through snowy drifts, leaving a trail of deep troughs behind! As the snow melted, playful pandas complied and treated us to their frosted and furry flurry of fun.

We are enjoying every moment we have with our pandas. The new year brings with it significant change with Tai Shan moving to China to join the main breeding population. As Tai fulfills his destiny, we nostalgically look back at all the wonderful times we have shared. We also look forward with renewed hope for a successful 2010 breeding season right here in D.C.!

this from the Memphis Zoo.....

Memphis Zoo officials are hoping for a new addition to the panda exhibit sometime around March. Ya Ya was inseminated around Thanksgiving; gestation takes 120 days.

Pandas become sexually mature at about age 5 or 6, putting Ya Ya at the "perfect stage" for conceiving a baby, Dr. Andy Kouba, the zoo's director of conservation and research said.

"What we've seen is a much stronger hormone profile that looks more like a reproductively mature animal," he said. "She's now at the peak of her reproductive age."

Ya Ya and Le Le came to the Memphis Zoo in 2003 as part of the species conservation plan, on loan for 10 years from the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens at a cost of $1.3 million a year. Ya Ya will remain on display and will be monitored as the zoo staff looks forward to the possibility of a new baby.
"It would be a wonder for the zoo," Kouba said

Good Luck to Memphis:)

Wahoo! Jack is not going. He will be going next week instead.

Wanda...wasn't my treadmill was just me! lol I "walk" without a treadmill, in front of the TV on the carpet. I do not like the treadmill.

Time to attack the lights on the tree. Jack has gone to check on the trailer. Brrrr! The wind chill is down in the single digits.

Mema Jo said...

Wanda - that would kill two birds with one view..... Eagles' nest & pandas.

Lynne2 said...

Judie-are you suffering from CAMERA OVERLOAD??

LOL!!! Not long ago I made a remark about BEAGLES in the nest...ooops!

Well, I can see where you would get confused since both are black and white!!

Jo thanks for posting that video link...what a cutie pie!

Lynne2 said...

forgot to mention...Steve thought it would be cute to get me a Happy Birthday balloon so he did. And he tried to put it in the trunk of the car with the rest of my goodies so he could surprise me. Well, the balloon got whipped away by the wind so he had to go catch it (it had a clip on the bottom of the string so it had a little weight on it)and the wind took it again. So he had to try to get it again only this time it went far so he followed in the car!!! He was going to give up but it got caught on something so he was able to get it back! Aww, the things he does for love!
He also mentioned that while scooting down the parking lot, the balloon briefly encountered some sort of silvery shiny thing and the two danced in the wind before it took off again....said he thinks the silver thing was heading north....

hedgie said...

LOL, Judie!!! Would love to see a panda in our nest!!! Wouldn't that be something special??

hedgie said...

Looked for Big Rig Steve yesterday when I was on 81----no sighting....but then found out he went thru' much later than I was there!
That garland is surely getting around!!!

Costume Lady said...

Lynne, what a beautiful picture, the balloon and the tinsil "dancing in the wind". Hope that decoration gets back to CEIL before next Christmas. It's kinda like a note in a bottle, bouncing from shore to shore:)

Update, Darth was on his way from his dr. checkup to get groceries and his car engine light came on and there were "stange" noises. Well, 2010 is off to a challenging start.

glo said...

Well hmmm it was balck and white could it be a panda sighting?

glo said...

Nah no such luck not Ceils Christmas decorations or a panda sighting. It was one of my cute little black squirrels who found himself a leftover peanut and scurried up the tree and "flew" over to the evergreen to enjoy it in peace. It had been buried in the snow I guess. Saw him out there digging down. He knew what he was going after. Yep I have flying squirrels. Now they aren't the real flying kind but they DO FLY everyday for sure.

good news, Maggie is home from the hospital, and resting, will take several more weeks for the congestion in chest to leave, she is on strong anit-biotics....thanks for all the prayers, they are very much appreciated.

Lynne2 said...

Judie....don't panic just YET about the engine light. It's happened to me in the truck and the car. Check the gas cap and make sure it's on tight. That was the first thing the mechanic told me when I called. Both times it was loose. Usually when the light comes on and does NOT blink, it has something to do with the emissions system. However when the light BLINKS....well, that's usually more serious.
Darth should definitely check to make sure that no flying silver objects got sucked into the engine fan.....

Costume Lady said...

Yes, Helen...I thought he was giving up and retiring!:( How could we do witout our BOB photos:)

Lynne2 said...

GREAT NEWS MITS!!!! I'm so glad, and she's probably SO much less stressed back at home which will certainly help her to heal!

Shirley that must have been like music to your ears to hear what your student's mother said!! I have no children of my own, but I have to say, it has been quite annoying for me to hear, over the years, some of my friends, coworkers and even family blame EVERYTHING on the education system the kids having problems. From too much homework is given to the child not sitting in the best place in the classroom, to curriculum is too challenging, to the teacher doesn't understand my child.... blah blah blah. It's been hard to keep my mouth shut sometimes!

stronghunter said...

Glo, we had flying squirrels in our yard in a previous house. They are nocturnal. We could walk out on our deck and watch them.

paula eagleholic said...

Ya'll want to hear some good news!!!

Bob Quinn said...

Lynne is right, it so much less stressful at home. Sarah fractured her toe last weekend and will have surgery Monday and a pin put in. It's outpatient so she'll be at home and I'll be at her beck and call.

stronghunter said...

It was nice to hear, Lynne, and it was nice to hear it from the student. She was in my class when she was a freshman, and failed because she was either sleeping or making sarcastic remarks. Now, she has a B- in English as a senior, so in spite of the silly thing she said, she has grown tremendously.

That is one nice thing about working with different levels. You get to observe the growth. I have taught some students as freshmen in high school and then taught them as freshmen in college. That is always interesting.

stronghunter said...

Yea, Paula!

paula eagleholic said...

Ouch, sounds like a nasty toe job there Bob!

hedgie said...

Bob, how did Sarah break her toe THAT bad??? Toe bones are, of course, the smallest in the body except for in the ear, but they withstand alot of assaults---to need a pin means she really did something bad!! Prayers for her rapid recovery----and you just be prepared to be at her beck and call!

Judie, NOT another problem??? Hopefully, just an idiot light----but if Darth heard strange noises......at least mechanics believe MEN when they hear something!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Well, I knew that was what you were thinking SOL was! :)

Lynne2 said...

so i've been gone a while but let me see if I've got this straight...Bob's feather fell off his head when he ducked to avoid a flying silver object, causing him to spill his Rum Runner all over his clothes. So poor Sarah tripped on that laundry, broke her toe, and now Bob has to sell his camera to buy a nurse's uniform to properly take care of Sarah......hmmmmm.

Lynne2 said...

Let's hope Sarah is a better patient than I was when my poor husband tried to take care of me after surgery!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

That was good Lynne2!

Who is the loud table? Wasn't ours I am sure!

Costume Lady said...

ROFLMBO, Lynne!

Lynne2 said...

well thanks Sharon....I was just working with the information I had!

Costume Lady said...

Hey Bob, make sure you turn those cams off when you get home. Don't want any scandles on here!

Lynne2 said...

this is sort of like an exercise I clearly remember doing in Sunday school when I was a wee lass....we all stood in a line and the teacher told the first kid a short story in a whisper. That kid then did the same to the next, and so one down the line. The last kid had to repeat the story out loud to the teacher. By then, it didn't really resemble the original story...it was interesting, a lesson on rumors, I think.

Costume Lady said...

SHARON, if you will recall, you were at BOTH of those tables:)

Lynne2 said...

Now Wanda....let's don't be hasty...after all we can't watch our eagles...this could be interesting!

Lynne2 said...

LOL!!!! way to throw her under the bus Wanda!!!

Costume Lady said...

I have a really cute photo of you sitting at BOB'S table with a look of dismay because when you moved, the table that you moved from had a winner of one of the door prizes:)

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

I hate pictures! :)

Bob Quinn said...

And who would be the more outrageous, the person with the feather or the one who stuck it behind his glasses (I was going to say stuck it in his hair but we know that is physically not possible).

ceil said...

evening all. First I am sure that Maggie is home so soon because of everyone's prayers. Thank you.
Bob you take good care of Sarah. Sorry to hear about her accident. That must have hurt.
Lynn hope you feel better soon.
Paula so glad John has found a job.
I have been putting the decorations away most of the day and am really tired.
I think they should rename that test so that the initials are not SOL. LOL Going to take a hot bath and get into my jammies.

Bob Quinn said...

TTFN! Headed home. You can all pick on me mercilessly now.

Judie said...

Oh my, so much going on.

Relived Maggie is home and know she will recover more quickly than in a hospital.

Paula, congratulatios on John's new job. I know you both are really excited. Maybe Bob can use his new camera to get a picture of you doing the "happy dance." That would make everyone happy.

Now I'm confused. Why does Shirely have to cover her posters for the Shopping-on-Line test?

And thank goodness it was the laundry that "tripped" up Bob's wife. I thought maybe it was some hanky panky problem caught on camera and he had to sell the evidence.

Lynne, you win comedienne of the week!

Lynn, glad you've got meds. Stay in and stay warm, please.

Darth made it home with groceries. Thinks it might just be response to unusual cold weather. He's a terrific mechanic so he'll figure it out. Was NOT happy about washer but gave him a little short highball and some dinner and he's napping in his recliner.

Jo, glad you got your "do" did before the snow flies.

Okay, I must leave for awhile to begin reading material on serial killers. So exciting! Really gets the blood flowing.

Later.

hedgie said...

Snow has started here.....Do You Know: I HATE SNOW!!!!

hedgie said...

Dinner is over---soup was delicious!! Kitchen cleaned up, and I think these meds are making me drowsy. TiVo is set for Jeopardy, so if I fall asleep I can catch it later. Sofa, here I come.

T-Bird said...

Hello my fine eagle momsters and dadsters.

floralgirl said...

Well, crap, it's starting to snow here too.
Hello T-Bird:)

Lolly said...

ROFLMBO!!!!! You guys are the greatest!!! I had to read outloud the blog to Jack.

Sitting here enjoying a wonderful fire. It is 29 but with a wind chill at 14.

Lynn, for my birthday I got a scanner to transfer my slides to digital. Going to take me a while. Will have to work at it slowly. Have spent the afternoon trying to figure it out.

Yea, so glad Maggie is home. She will get better fast being at home.

Bob....did not fall for that! Just knew you were not giving up photography. Poor Sarah, she really must have done a "job" on her toe! Yes, good thing she did not trip on YOUR laundry. lol

Lynn, so glad you got to the doctor and on meds. Prayers going up that you get to feeling better fast.

Judie..you are so funny. Love your blogs. You summed it all up so well. lol......."as the blog turns!"

Lolly said...

Ok, TCU is not playing tonight.
GA Tech is not playing tonight.
BUT, have to say "Go HORNS!"

Mema Jo said...

Hi T-Bird! Any snow down your way yet?

I just came back - I won't tell you that Hubby took me to Outback - but he did.

SOL I thought had something to do with LUCK.

Moose are in the 'Drive Thru' eating dinner.

Hearing that everyone is on the mend - I hope we can keep it that way.

Lolly said...

Time to go prepare dinner.

BBL

Have I said how happy I am to have my jubby home?

ceil said...

Bob I know you left but if you see this. Are you sure it was laundry and not garland with some silver stuff on it. If it was I need it back.

T-Bird said...

No snow this way Mema Jo. I'm so jealous. I really do miss the stuff.

NatureNut said...

Evening Everyone! ☺
Read with relish the afternoon comments!
Hooray, Maggie is coming home & Paula's John got a job!
Sorry about Bob's poor wife, & glad he's getting a new camera! If I had known it was on Ebay, I could have bid!LOL
Glad Lynn made it to the Dr. & Sharon's feeling better. You have to get your lung power back to sit at Oct.'s Loud Table!
Someone took the words rright out of my feeble mind~~~~Judie's Frank's car may have encounter a silvery object under the hood!!!!
I guess a lot of great minds think alike!! LOL
Will soon have bird pics on blog.

Mema Jo said...

Ceil - don't close that last box of Christmas decorations - Your garland with silver balls may be headed back to you!

ceil said...

Where's Margy?

Lynne2 said...

help, I put eggs on the stove 3 hours ago to hard boil. Took off hot burner and FORGOT about them. Water is still warm. Are the eggs rotten????

Judie said...

Hey, starting to snow here! OOOOPS! Wrong! It's just some silvery stuff floating around outside Darth's car. Well, shopping on line or murder? Hmmm! I think murder. Later.

Wonder how Daisy is doing?

ceil said...

Where is Anne Marie when we have an egg question? Lynne she is the expert on hard boiled eggs. IMHO I would give them to the birds.

ceil said...

Going to watch some TV and fall asleep

Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, Gang,
Haven't had time to read and catch up on the blog--have to leave and go to school. Will be back later tonight! Have a great evening.
Later, alligators! :o}

T-Bird said...

No Lynne the eggs are not rotten. They are just too darn dry to eat. Heck they may even be rocks. : )

Lolly said...

No, the eggs are not rotton. Eat them! Or refrigerate them now.,

Costume Lady said...

Lynne, did you cook the EGGS for 3 hours, or just the WATER? If it was the eggs...throw them out to the birds! Yuk.

Costume Lady said...

I forgot to tell Bob that I'm really sorry about Sara. We made so much fun of him, forgot the pain she must be in.
SORRY, MRS. BOB!

Costume Lady said...

I HAVE A QUESTION FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO GO TO CONOWINGO...
Would January 16 (next Saturday) suit you all? Let me know, either on here or email me, please:)

stronghunter said...

Hello again! I knew when I mentioned SOL tests, I would get a reaction. Some people just don't know how to name things. Yep, Standards of Learning, though some have called them the S*** Out of Luck tests.

We never know when an auditor might show up to make sure we have no discrepancies. I can't allow my students to see any posters that might help them answer any questions. You remember all the posters I put up. I have to hide them all.

I can't even give the test. I will be monitoring a history test and a history teacher will monitor my test. We also have to go through training every time we give the test and sign a security agreement swearing that we won't do anything improper. Test materials are counted out and signed for. Since the test is online, technical people are on call to solve problems. It is quite a production.

stronghunter said...

I would peel the eggs and see what they look like. If they just sat in hot water for 3 hours, they should be okay.

stronghunter said...

Susan is working with a group that is trying to place chinchillas and hedgehogs. It seems there are more than 700 hedgehogs that need homes. Does anyone want a hedgehog?

floralgirl said...

That is sad, cause I never understood why people were allowed to have hedgehogs as pets.

stronghunter said...

I do not know much about them nor what kinds of pets they would be.

floralgirl said...

I know that wild hedgehogs love to run and climb trees and even swim. I know people raise domesticated ones, but I just don't think every animal should become man's pet. Obviously there are just too many abandoned ones. 700 is a lot of hedgehogs. How will they ever place all of them in homes?

PA Nana said...

Hi everyone. Having trouble getting on again. Grrrrr

stronghunter said...

That is an excellent question. I do not know how they will place them. I just thought this group might have ideas. Obviously, there would need to be more information.

floralgirl said...

Maybe Lynn wants some hedgehogs:)

stronghunter said...

I thought about that, Megan. But I doubt she could handle 700.

NatureNut said...

Awwww, only Lynn Hedgie should be allowed to have a hedgehog. But the rest shouldn't be pets.
Lolly, see that you know TX is playing tonight. Fubby had it on~~it's for the championship! Winner gets to wear silvery garlands!!!
Put eagle & birds pics on blog. Some are not real great, but I know we're starved to see eagles! LOL Speaking of that, I need to eat. Had Dunch at 4:30---smoked sausage on roll...Later

PA Nana said...

This time it worked! Geez, now I forgot what I wanted to say.

Blessings for all who are sick and have a broken appendage.

My day has been anything BUT good.
First I broke my glasses in half, literally; then I fell in the kitchen. That's my being graceful.

I expect to be quite stiff and sore tomorrow, but with the expected snow I'm not going anywhere. Fortunately,I didn't break anything!

Take care, but gotta move before I can't.

... maybe later

Mema Jo said...

NN that sounds like a good tasty dunch

The snow has arrived in the Valley!

Judie said...

Fool-proof hard-cooked eggs: cold water to cover, bring to just starting to simmer w/bubbles, remove from heat, cover, let sit 10minutes. I usually let my sit for 15. Works every time with no green ring.

Lynne, peel and look then eat or pitch.

Wish I could but can't do Conowingo. Maybe another time.

Shirley, I do not envy having to give those tests. Way too much work for me.

Don't understand chincillas or hedgehogs for pets. I'm sad for those critters Susan is rescuing --way too many to expect adoption.

Get well wishes for Mrs. Bob.

Turning my light out now. Leaving the night light on for others coming in. Andy, please set the alarm when you get home from school. Thanks!

Pleasant eagle dreams for all.

stronghunter said...

Will and Susan turned 30 today! We are celebrating on Sunday evening. I hope no snowstorm prevents this get-together.

floralgirl said...

4:30 is kinda late for dunch...

magpie said...

You folks are Hilarious !!!

magpie said...

So Happy that Miss Maggie is in her own Roost tonight ! ♥

stronghunter said...

Judie, giving the test isn't too much work. Preparing for it is a heck of a lot of work, though. I would not want to be the person who had to figure out the schedule. I have trouble wrapping my brain around setting up things like that.

magpie said...

Diann.....I am sorry about your fall from grace....hope for sure that you will be okay!

magpie said...

Ceil's Christmas garland is coming down in smithereens here in Berkeley County WV
I was wondering when I would see it

magpie said...

Golly Loretta, more pictures? I just finished catching up !
Off to see the Nook, back in a minute

Lynne2 said...

take it from one who has seen it all first hand....like Megan says, not every animal should be a pet. Hedgehogs, sugar gliders, chinchilla and IMHO, birds, except in RARE circumstances where people who actually know what they are doing should never be pets. I could write a book.

Judie are you sure about Conowingo??? It's very NOT physical at all.....

We are having some issues with Daisy. She is becoming destructive. More later....

Gotta go make new eggs....UGH!

Mema Jo said...

I wonder what Loretta will find for
dupper?

I LOVE all your pics that you have posted Loretta.

Lolly said...

Are those chinchillas and hedgehogs from my area? Did you read in the news where this company was raided. They had thousands of imported animals. Many were dead and many needed food and water. Really sad!

magpie said...

Happy Birthday to your Susan, Shirley, and I have totally enjoyed all your teacher tales.

And to all the rest of you, including that Cagey Bob Quinn:
I got a much needed dose of LOL's !

magpie said...

Hope that everyone's medicines target the germs, pronto!
Pow! Jab! Biff! Socko!

Lynne2 said...

Lynne 1, good grief I hope you are OK...sorry to hear about your mishap. Prayers that you don't hurt too much.
