Thursday

The cam is obviously giving us a great deal of trouble.  Yesterday afternoon we determined that the damage caused last week by the wind also impacted the power supply to the cam and perhaps the cam as well.  We are working closely with a top Fish and Wildlife Service Bald Eagle expert on the best time to go up in the nest at this late time to replace the cam and cables.  Right now, the window for doing this is mid next week.  More when we know it.

New thread.

magpie said...

Good Morning Jim !

No hangover here...I saved some of the dooking sherry for dooking

Capt. Gene is looking at the map and directions to Conowingo. I'm wondering who all we could pick up on the way. Diann, I forget where you are in Pa. Maybe we could meet somewhere? That goes for any of you who would like to go with us. NO CHARGE!

magpie said...

Headed out to grocery store soon with 92 year old gal pal that loves to shop, then maybe Morgan County later on for some kid fun

Wearing RED, of course !

Best wishes for a Stellar day for all.....

Talk to you later....
xo ☺ ♥

magpie said...

Hope the gas prices come down before any road trips, Wanda....
they have gone up 20-cents per gallon in two weeks ! :(

Costume Lady said...

Speaking of DOOKING, Capt. Gene has traded in the Conowingo map for a frying pan. He is making breakfast this morning. Won't let me know what it is, but, I have a very good nose. I smell pancakes and sausage...so good, but not a good diet food:(

movin said...

Hahaha. Xi Lan just fell out of bed !!

He was turned over on his back, scratching and yawning and wiggling his toes, when he took a wrong turn...

I'm headed for the grocery store, too, after breakfast. GG is letting me get her groceries while she is fearful of driving. THANK YOU, LORD!

Costume Lady said...

JIM, do you ever go to the SD ZOO? We were there once, many years ago and loved it!

Costume Lady said...

Yep, Margy, $2.75 a gal is getting pretty scary!

movin said...

Speaking of c...dooking sherry..

Unlike many people, including myself when I was a lot younger, I have learned to like a good fruit cake at the Holidays.

Well, I've been getting a great one from Figi's for years, which is like made in Heaven. Into the best of F. Cakes is soaked brandy, bourbon and rum! Ummmmmmmummmmmuummmmmm! Then take a goodly sip of the egg nog or hot toddy, and you'll think you are in Heaven too.

Good Late Morning - Got caught up on morning comments and the emails. Checked out the cams - well all except one! Lady Blackwater seems to like her egg well. Won't be long!

All you momsters got Iris's email - Prayers for her dil Doretta for healing
We helped Maggie get up/running now we need to do it for Doretta.

I read my newspaper and drank my coffee before signing on.

Wanda, we used to go at least a couple of times a year when we lived in the North San Diego area; plus we would take the Midwestern relatives whenever they visited.

I haven't been down to the zoo or Wild Animal Park in years, but I have been thinking about making the trip again.

I think they have been upgrading and updating things, and it's becoming a world leader in zooing again.

Did you know all those enclosures you see without the iron bars, etc., of a cage were originated in San Diego??

movin said...

I am having a little trouble gripping my limb, Hedgie. That's the truth... No fruitcake yet this A.M. though????

Costume Lady said...

No, Jim...didn't know that.
What I liked most about the Zoo was the train that took us all around the whole Zoo, and we didn't have to walk anywhere except to the parking lot:)
It is a Beautiful place.

Costume Lady said...

LMBO, Lynn...You must be feeling better this morning or you meds are laced with alcohol;)

movin said...

The S.D. Zoo was more relaxed in some ways ... and cheaper.

That whole area outside the main gate was part of Balboa Park ... a BIG lawn with trees, picnickers ... lovers ... sunshine. Now it's a huge parking lot.

We used to parallel park on the side streets around there.

The fees are pretty hefty now, but kids were free, and I think adults were under a buck for all the 40's and part of the 50's.

You could also make a day or a weekend out of it and visit all the museums and the Olde Globe Theatre around Balboa Park ... all for a small donation at the door or gate.

San Diego zoo prices

Adults 12 and up $37.00
Children 3 to 11 $27.00

NATIONAL ZOO IN WASHINGTON D.C....FREE:)

Costume Lady said...

Really miss those GOOD OLD DAYS, Jim!

Costume Lady said...

Holy Cow! That is really steep...I know it wasn't even near that price when we went...might have even been free, except for the train fare.
HELEN, good point about the NATIONAL ZOO. I couldn't remember.

Mema Jo said...

I hope as long as there are Friends of FONZ they can keep it free. Great for families with youngsters.

movin said...

Yep, Mits. I think the Federal support of the N.Z. might be a small factor.

But the prices really have soared. I think the zoo might be one of the cheapest amusement parks out here. Try Sea World or Disney Land.

My sister and b-i-l got lifetime memberships in the Zoological Society years ago, and they get REALLY BIG discounts when visiting either the zoo or the animal park. I'll have to check that out; might be the way to go.

When you say Alfalfa, all I think of is the Little Rascals.

Costume Lady said...

We got our grandaughter a Panda Bear which was bigger than she and she took it to school for show and tell. Bus driver carried the panda and put it in it's own seat and Jill right beside it. She was staying with us during her kindergarten year and she had the best bus driver in the world!:)

Mits said...

yes Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) are big contributers

Mema Jo said...

Megan I think that Alfalfa has a 'cowlick' and that is why Pook named him as she did.

Prices for entertainment are high everywhere, for sure. Those "lifetime membership" things help---but apparently not useful for guests. My BFF in CA has them for herself, son and gd's for Disneyland---but when they took my Christie last summer, it cost her ^60+ to get in! so SD Zoo is still a bargain.
Jim and Wanda, over the next 10 yrs., the renovations planned for National Zoo include an overhead tram.

Morning all in the bitter cold land of Eagleworld.

I must read back to find out about our littlest Eaglet Maggie?

Then I have to find out about Bob's wifes toes?

I must have needed it left till 11:30 after going to bed last night at 9pm.

I might be good luck coming on.

Just read my Yahoo mail, and am feeling so bad for Iris' DIL. How very painful that must be. Sure that our prayers will aid in Doretta's speedy recovery. Amen.

Slept in late this morning, and it felt really good! Dana, you and I are on the same page there!

Prayers, indeed, for Doretta! Hoping for no complications, and a speedy recovery! God bless!

Jim, I googled Figi's, and the fruitcakes sure look wonderful! Pass the dooking sherry! (hic!)

Lynn, hope you improve rapidly today! Lay low, stay warm, and keep spooning in the hot soup! Love you!

Well, I gotta run a couple of errands. Will BBIALW... :o]
