when you come back on, the Fort St Vrain (XCel) is the nest in Colorado at which the three chicks failed to survive, the one where they stated one of the adults might have gotten injured and the other adult could not manage the roosting and food-gathering :(
I think I might find some energy outdoors and in the sun while it lasts...

Norfolk does an awesome job showing off their eagles in all their beauty. They are a thrill to watch for sure.

I have gotten a mailing address for Iris's daughter-in-law Doretta, recovering from fall with serious rib/chest injury about two weeks ago. Some of us on the Conowingo trip signed a get well card, and I have signed it "From the Eaglet Momsters" with a brief note of Who We Are ! (per Iris's suggestion; Iris said Doretta knows Iris loves Eagles! )
So I will mail that off this afternoon....

Just looked in on yun zi and he is still up on the platform. Read the update and it tells about the keepers day with the bears. It tells how in the morning Yun Zi is in the den but most of the day likes the platform

Finally managed to get back on this computer. It goes offline and online. It took about 30 minutes to log on.
There are plenty of reasons I stopped using it. In addition to the problems with logging on, there is no sound.

Hopefully just looking for nestovers and not going to become a problem for our pair. Although it didn't eat. Just sat ont he edge long enough for 3 photos. When i saw it it was facing me but took a minute to get up photo capture program. By then had turned its head but does stay for 3 captures and you can see its size and shape. Perhaps eyes again in one of the photos.
it was only a minute fly-by, Margy, same for tomorrow night only a little later...I think on Friday night it is supposed to be 5 minutes

there are a lot of other "fish in the sea" for owls....
In all the time I have watched, don't think I ever remember an owl there, but who knows this cam has been down alot too.
Yes I do think its the Great Horned one. The frontal view made me think right away oh no its an owl. I don't at all like seeing it there. Wish I oculd have gotten he first photo as it was clearly and OMG its an owl at the nest moment. And yes I remember nBG and the owl too.
Well, it is the breeding season for Great Horneds...hopefully he or she will be well-distracted by other delights than leftover fish....
so guess someone needs to volunteer to go to the nest and chase it away, I never knew the damage they could do till I saw it at Norfolk
think I will sneak a peek at a few cams west of here, see how back I can get my computer to freeze up

yes hopefully. Wish I could say I think it might have been an owl and perhaps a GHO but thats not at all what I think. I know what I saw and how long it stayed. It was looking right at the cam when it caught my eye.

Someone talking on Lily's page the other day mentioned watching eagle cams and said she saw a baby eagle carried off...was that it?
Owls are pretty much the only threat to eagles during their nesting and young time. I was tryiing to find some info on line but haven't seen what I am looking for yet. I need to go out tonight. lib and Belle will have their hands full if it wasn't just s brief visit maybe checking for nestovers etc. But Lib and Belle are young and healthy . They haul whales to the nest :-) I think they will hopefully convince mr/mrs owl to go else where.
part of the problem about the owl, at NBG, is that after a fuss with the owl, one of the adults might have landed back down on their eggs too hard.....damaging them.
Others can say more about it I think.
I think the first attack was at the egg the eagle had laid, so we waited and she laid another egg, might have been 07, not sure what year....will look around and see if I can find the info.
Maybe Nu better climb the tree and hang a rubber snake! That's supposed to chase away owls, I think!
No I don't think any owl carried off baby eagle. IWS had their Pelican Harbor attacked by rogue eagles I think year before last and knocked both young out of the nest. Nestcam watchers allerted Dr Sharpe and his team and they headed out to get the injured eagles who were taken to the mainland and treated by a vet there.
I don't remember any owls hauling babies off but I do remember them harrassing NBG to the point that they eventually moved back to their old nest. They also had another adult female causing problems at that nest that year too. NOT to worry just yet. Just to watch and be aware.

2nd egg laid on February 4.
Intruder female eagle disrupted incubation on February 14
Resident female eagle disappeared February 16 – eggs not viable.
Eggs removed from nest February 19
Intruder female departed – NBG female returned unharmed February 22
1st egg of second clutch laid on March 16.
2nd egg of second clutch laid on March 19
Something agitates female on the night of March 20 - she jumped up and broke both eggs.
3rd egg of second clutch laid on March 22 . Hatched April 27. Male.
Growth noticed on eaglet’s beak on May 17

November Adult eagles at NBG began to rebuild old nest. Camera moved back to original location.

this is 2007.....
1st egg laid on January 31. Hatched March 10. Female
2nd egg laid on February 3. Hatched March 13. Male
3rd egg laid on February 7. Hatched March 15. Male
Eaglets are banded by Center for Conservation Biology at William & Mary on April 17. (sex of eagle determined at this time)
2 older eaglets fledged June 1. Younger male eaglet fledged June 2.
Adult eagles begin new nest in a tree 400 feet to the north of the original nest in September
Camera moved and infrared light added to new nest tree on Dec. 13, 2007
