HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ONCE AGAIN TO MR. ED. We all (in the Eagle Express) sang Happy B'Day to him last Saturday. Was so happy to meet him and be able to sing to him in person. ANY FRIEND OR LOVER OF JO'S IS A FRIEND OF OURS!;)
DANA...if you don't get on my WILD AND WONDERFUL and see your STARRING ROLE, I'm gonna come down there with my eagle cane!:) XCUSE ME IF YOU HAVE ALREADY!
The long wait is over. When labor started at 1:59 PM CST yesterday, we thought it would be short. Cubs average only ¾ pound and 9 inches long. How long could that take? Along with thousands of you, we spent a sleepless night as bouts of labor continued for 21 hours and 39 minutes. Finally, at 11:38 AM CST, Lily made some contortions, looked under her, and began the intense sweet motherly grunts that bears only make to cubs. Could it be? A loud squawk from the cub made it definite. Lily tucked her head under her chest to care for the cub and breathe on it.
A few minutes later there were more contortions. This time it was only the afterbirth. As Lily rose up to eat the afterbirth, she let cold air under her, making the cub squawk and making people wonder if it was a second cub. First litters are typically 1 or 2. We listened long and hard today but never heard two cub voices.
Now at 8:23 PM, we think Lily is done. She had a single cub. She is now breathing a relaxed three breaths per minute instead of the four per minute prior to birth. We don't see her muscles contracting like in the past couple days. Her restlessness is gone. However, just after 5 PM, Lily made a few motions reminiscent of last night. If another cub is coming, which we doubt, we’ll need the help of your eyes and ears to determine when it arrives. We can’t stay up another night.
isn't that nice, a site and cam that actually would like your help and input....:), like Dunedin osprey cam, they look forward to people helping them with info you see.
Thanks for all the b-day wishes for hubby. I'll be sure to tell him! Family should be here around noon hour. Happy 2nd birthday to Brensin - he should really love parties at this age.
Good Saturday to all. Sunny, but still chilly. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ED LENNOX! and a belated wish for Breslin!!!
Watched Wanda's video during the night---in retrospect, I think the sounds that we thought might have been a second cub were CAP'T. GENE fooling her!!! Ha,ha---kidding, of course!!
Mits, what winter feeding nest are you referring to? Don't think I'm familiar with that one!
news item this AM about an orphaned baby antelope in England---10" tall---taken in and now in zoo being hand-raised. Snow over there apparently a big problem with the wildlife. But get this: full grown, the Antelope will only be 16". Gotta do some research on this. OUR antelopes sure aren't that small!
MORNIN'--LOLLY --SHARON--WANDA--MITS--MEMA JO--& PAULA---I was checking to see if there had been a #2 CUB born!!---All this birthin' babies has been too exciting for me!!---Would LOVE to see the little one!!!
Wanda I thought there were just pictures. Which I did go in and see and left comment. Just watched the video twice.....that is such great shots of eagles, the 6 second Paula dash is in there too, plus the juvie Gene took from all the way across the dam. Yesterday in talking to Margy on phone. I didn't get what she mean't about "the end". Now I do LMBO (oh how I which I could laugh that off lol)..I left a page for a comment tee hee
Okay, Mits, that's the one I had so much trouble opening a few weeks ago when Suz told me about it. But it just opened fine in media player....getting dark there and no action happening! Thanks!
MORNIN' JUDIE!!---WHOA!!---The SUN is shining & the BIRDS are singing & a friend just called & told me she had a ROBIN in her lawn this morning!!---aah!! LIFE IS GOOD!!!
There was a nice piece about Lily on the news, too. Doug Hajicek said they still don't know FOR SURE if more than one cub or not. Love the part about them needing some sleep, and for viewers to keep track of stuff!!
Happy Belated birthday to Norma's Lisa, too! And good wishes for for grandson, Dana. Sorry it is the way it is....their loss but know it hurts you. :( Vacuum cleaner is ready to go, so guess it's time for me to get busy. BBL!

Have the same problem here, sometimes the cam causes my computer to freeze up, can't open any other sites sometimes unless I pause it. Heading outisde for a while.
Wanda, there's nothing colorful to see anyway!!! It may look better when there's something green out there! Wish our tree was a pine, like NBG---that is so beautiful! I'm so partial to pines!
Just noticed that my good neighbor has mounted bird houses (or maybe roost boxes) ON TOP of their glider swing. Hope they don't plan on sitting out there come spring/summer!! Duh! Bad neighbor has taken down MORE trees---don't know why they bothered to build in the woods just to take down all the trees. Another DUH! Back to chores. TTFN.
Hi! Back home. It was so good to see my boys. One week is all I can take, then need a fix. And, they looked so cute!! Both wanted their hair spiked. Joseph's wont last long, his hair is too curly. Jacob's hair spikes okay, but it was left too long so mommy can comb it. But, it is still cute. Got a good pic of both on my phone.
Got my eagle fix. One was in the nest when I go on.
Also, listening ( OMG....just saw the cub!) to the cub. Can not believe how much like a new born baby it sounds. Anyway, it was squawking really loud while I was typing, opened the cam, and there it was up near her head, completely in sight! She quickly used her head to tuck him back under.
They have the t-shirts for sale now. I ordered mine. It will be fun to wear, especially when we are camping.
Yea, Judie. You saw him same time I did! Wahoo! We are going to have to come up with a name until he is officially named. I am so totally enthralled with Lily and her baby!
22 January 2010: We have staff members out checking the situation on the ground and will post another update when we have more information. From the cameras we can see that the eagles continue to visit the pole nest with some regularity to feed or perch, but they have not started refurbishing the nest yet.
The nest is nothing to lay eggs in. Bet they have built a nest else where.
Good afternoon all. Thelma, my friend Tara and I are heading to Roanoke to do a little shopping and then to a meeting. See you all later. Love hearing that little baby's voice!
I logged on several hours ago and was reading over the blog and checking out our cam and the Lily cam when I got that security warning thing that Lynn (I think it was Lynn) was talking about. It said that I might have gotten a virus and did I want Microsoft to scan for it.
I don't remember for sure what I did next, but I did not want it to scan. But it started scanning anyway, so I shut down the computer for several hours.
I logged back on and downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy. It found some problems, so I deleted them. Now I see a warning that sometimes Spybot will detect McAfee as a threat. That is the security system on here. I hope I did not eliminate any of it.
Judie, no covenants or restrictions about trees! BOO! A big ritzy development at the other end of the county does have a restriction that NO trees can be taken down unless they are determined to be dead or diseased (by an expert!). Wish we had something like that in mine, for sure. Of course, the friend I have who lives there doesn't like it---she doesn't have the woods to blow leaves in to---she has to bag and haul!!
When you get one of those fake virus warnings, the best way to stop it is to open the task manager and close it that way. That way you don't have to click any part of that pop-up window because it doesn't matter what you click, yes or no, ok/cancel the malware will be installed.
Welcome back, Shirley---and with new eyes, too!! And Judie has her glasses fixed! Y'all should see everything "real good" now.
I got that MS warning a month or more ago, Shirley, but think that Margy had it most recently. So did my daughter---GD was on computer, and carolyn doesn't know what she clicked, so she unplugged router and power! LOL. Told her to scan and she had a lot of things that were quarantined/vaulted. Someone had suggested installing Malware Bytes---we both have done that now.

I do not know if it would do any good to contact the bear cam people. Do you know anything about CamWatch?
Looks like sites where a link is posted to the Lily cam, there are several when I google that sentence. Was it an article about it or could you watch the cam? The virus warning probably comes up when you open the site. The best way to watch Lily is on the offical sites. I always use the bear.org site.
I have had no luck trying to get my t-shirt ordered from Bear....built my account, but it won't let me in until I get the email verification, and it's been a couple of hours and still no email. Guess they are just still swamped. Might take a year for them to fulfill the orders!!!! Hope not.
I think someone said that they would like to be a bear and hibernate all winter. (I know one of my students made that comment.) Looks to me like Lily has her paws full. She is all alone in a den with a squally baby.

Best wishes for a good day everyone...
gotta shake a leg and get some undone things done today

Ok thanks for the new thread and read one comment back found where everyone went.
Boy I don't think that cub would sound that loud outside the den. Cause it would bring in pretators. I think it is only because of the microphone.
Happy Birthday Mema's hubby ED
Thelma on the other thread was so happy she got to see our eagles this AM. DARN that scared me!!
Sounds like maybe a bluejay around our nest.

Oh, and what have I learned? "Feisty" is another break in the rule "i before e, except after c. Live and learn and always use spell check.

Thanks, Megan. I didn't go to the site to catch up last night. I think one is plenty for a first time Mom.
One cub would be enough for a 1st time
momma!
has our eagle been there very long?
Thanks Megan for that good info on Lily and cub.
I did have to chuckle at "we can't stay up another night". Oh doesn't that bring back memories to most of us.
Them birth'n them babies sure can cause you to drift off now and again lol

Off to get eyeglass frames repaired, I hope. Later.
Listening to the sound of the cub
He sounds starved! But he sure is getting his fill!
Well that is 5 times in the last 4 days that we have seen for HP...eggs won't be far behind!
And thanks for noting that on here...I am updating the calendar on the EM group site with the info.
Hope BWE has their second egg today!
There should be plenty there for just one cubbie!

See ya'll later tonight!

EAGLES
brought food...Belle mantled it
Lib just sneezed.
Lib just flew to an upper branch
can't tell what see is eating
See her chucking pieces over the side of nest...
yeah, saw that too...was wondering if it was squirrel or some bird,
Think it's a squirrel.
they way its eating looks like it has not eaten in days...
YEah, ravenous...actually not sure it is a squirrel now...
I think you are right, Megan.
egg in view...BWE
she's gonna need a Rolaid...
may never know what it is the way she is eating it so fast....sounds like a lawn mower in the background.
looks like it has bones or something hard, turtle????
Yeah, she's not wasting any time... I don't see a long squirrel tail, and it looked too big when she was moving it.
maybe a bird???
guess we can call it the mystery meal.
I thought that, like a duck even, but I didn't see a lot of feathers being plucked.
UMMM...tastes like chicken:)
what ever it is, its big, her left talon is holding it down, and you can see some spillover under her talon
yummy, made it to the guts...looks like spaghetti...
well that is nasty, stringy stuff, hanging out of her mouth
SHe needs a napkin
Would you like a glass of wine with that, Belle?
I was just going to say that....hey Wanda maybe it is chicken, but would have seen more feathers.
Yes, which wine goes with entrails...red or white...
RED:)
With entrails, probably a BEER;)
lol....:)
It did look like a few pieces of fur was pulled out...Maybe a rabbit?
Yeah, maybe a small rabbit or muskrat? I just never saw the telltale long squirrel tail flapping around.
Happy Birthday ED!!
Happy Birthday Bresin!
Happy Birthday Cayden!
Hello everyone, just popping in to say hello....of to take Crazy for a nice long walk.
AWWWW...more cub sounds!
See you later...hope everyone has fun today!
Whatever it is, Lib is just gonna get scraps.
I just realized we have no color. Not that we had much before...but I see none now.
She's gonna need a bath when she gets done...even Lib won't touch her:)
ha, he is a male, won't matter to him....had to shut cam down was causing me not to get to emails or blog...
going to reboot, thought I wanted lunch, but now, not so sure:(
Have the same problem here, sometimes the cam causes my computer to freeze up, can't open any other sites sometimes unless I pause it.
Heading outisde for a while.
Sounds crunchy! Not much left. Cam keeps pausing for about 12 seconds at a time.
Lynne, are you feeling better??
Wanda, there's nothing colorful to see anyway!!! It may look better when there's something green out there!
Wish our tree was a pine, like NBG---that is so beautiful! I'm so partial to pines!

Back to chores. TTFN.
I CAN SEE! I CAN SEE!
I could actually see a quick peek at cubby because it starting squealing and Lily raised up for a second. Quiet now. Eating, I guess.
Missed luncheon at the nest. Didn't sound too appetizing.
Got my spectacles repaired and stopped for a few extra food items. Nothing exciting except for jumbo shrimp.
Glad I went today. Nice out with bright sunshine. Heavy rain for tomorrow. Will be a good day to stay in a watch critters.
Hi! Back home. It was so good to see my boys. One week is all I can take, then need a fix. And, they looked so cute!! Both wanted their hair spiked. Joseph's wont last long, his hair is too curly. Lynn, are there any ordinances about tree removal? Old growth trees? I agree, DUH!
Yea, Judie. You saw him same time I did! Wahoo! We are going to have to come up with a name until he is officially named. I am so totally enthralled with Lily and her baby!
Lolly, so glad you had a good time.
Could you PLEASE keep the rain out your way?
Oh, heard there was a nasty tanker spill, gulf nearer Houston.
I vote for Cubby -- works male or female and easy to type.
Oh, and I forgot to thank Mits, Wanda, and Megan for the delightful descriptions of Belle's lunch. You did yourself proud! Yucko!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, we will stick with Cubby unless someone else comes up with a better idea. They will probably wait to offically name Cubby, when they know the sex.
Party is over - all have gone - wonderful time and very good food - putting my feet up before it is time for Mass.......
Ed said the say Thank You for all the well wishes and cards!
Well, I have been gone today. So, let me now wish Ed a Happy Birthday! I am sure the party with family was very special.

Hi Jo, glad you also had a good day. You mentioned good food -- was there a birthday sheetz cake?
Good afternoon all. Thelma, my friend Tara and I are heading to Roanoke to do a little shopping and then to a meeting. See you all later. Love hearing that little baby's voice!
Hi! I think I am back.
I logged on several hours ago and was reading over the blog and checking out our cam and the Lily cam when I got that security warning thing that Lynn (I think it was Lynn) was talking about. It said that I might have gotten a virus and did I want Microsoft to scan for it.

Saw my eye doctor today, too, Judie. I got contact lenses. I have had them for years, but haven't worn them. I thought I would try again. We will see.
Had to get new contacts to go with my new prescription.
When you get one of those fake virus warnings, the best way to stop it is to open the task manager and close it that way. That way you don't have to

I am thinking I clicked the "X" in the corner. I'm sure that doesn't make it go away.
Good idea, Megan.
Okay folks, I just got the same fake virus warning again. Thanks again for the advice, Megan.
The important thing is that it is coming from one of the Lily links that I found by Googling.
Be careful what Lily link you go to.
Which site?
Welcome back, Shirley---and with new eyes, too!! And Judie has her glasses fixed! Y'all should see everything "real good" now.
I got that MS warning a month or more ago, Shirley, but think that Margy had it most recently. So did my daughter---GD was on computer, and carolyn doesn't know what she clicked, so she unplugged router and power! LOL. Told her to scan and she had a lot of things that were quarantined/vaulted. Someone had suggested installing Malware Bytes---we both have done that now.
Give me a minute. I will try to find it.
Firing up the grill----steak tonight! Clouds have rolled in---so will be dark a bit earlier, I think. BBL.

I do not know if it would do any good to contact the bear cam people. Do you know anything about CamWatch?
Tried to contact the CamWatch people, but they want a phone number and e-mail address from me. I don't want to give those things.
Looks like sites where a link is posted to the Lily cam, there are several when I google that sentence. Was it an article about it or could you watch the cam? The virus warning probably comes up when you open the site. The best way to watch Lily is on the offical sites. I always use the bear.org site.
Going to go scan for viruses again.
I Googled because I have lost all of the links on my favorites list.
EAGLE!!!
Eagle!
TWO eggs at BWE!!!
Yea!!!!!!!!!!
I put up a picture on Whatever blog of two eggs at BWE.
Great pic of the two eggs!
Two eagles!

Great pic at BWE of the 2 eggs. That nest cup sure is deep in our nest.
The geese are flying by...
One flew out... night light just kicked in, there goes the other eagle.
Hi!
Found a couple of more problems, and I shut down that thing right away.
Shirley, sorry you are having so many problems. It is so frustrating.
Have added a pic from tonight's visit.
Saw our eagles. BWE went black on me. Missed seeing Lily's cub. Heard the geese.
BWE is down for me. Anyone else?
Looks like BWE has a problem. Out for me too, Dana. It was up just a short while ago.
Leaving now to work on slides.
BBL
Shut down what, Shirley....the scan??
Lovely shot of the BWE eggs!!!
Ours didn't stay long, did they?
I have had no luck trying to get my t-shirt ordered from Bear....built my account, but it won't let me in until I get the email verification, and it's been a couple of hours and still no email. Guess they are just still swamped. Might take a year for them to fulfill the orders!!!! Hope not.
Check out Diego playing on his platform.

I don't know if you are watching Two Harbors on Catalina, but there is an eagle on that nest now.

My computer is hanging up and stalling now too; so I'm going to shut some things ... maybe all ... down for a while.

Nope, no BWE cam for me, either.
Hi folks! Late b-day wishes to Ed, Bresnin, Caitlin, etc.
That eagle restaurant menu reading was yucky but it sure was funny. Thanks to everyone for the laughs. You'll never know how much I needed that.
I missed the cub too.
Youngest cleaned my oven today and the range tops. Looks like a new stove. Now I should mess it up -- heehee. Wish I could though ...
Oldest is buying take-out supper tonight - subs & fries. No dirtying the stove tonight.
I love my boys, but I don't much like living with them again. Calgon, take me away!!!!!
... later
Yes, Lynn, the so-called scan. I did what Megan suggested.
Happy birthday to Ed, Caitlin, and Bresnin.
BWE is back up if you were having problems.I just got in so did not know it was down. Congrats. Another egg. They sure are a couple of quick eagles.
that is so wonderful for BWE, such a great site, and beautiful eagles:)
All kinds of baby sounds at the Lily cam.
I think someone said that they would like to be a bear and hibernate all winter. (I know one of my students made that comment.) Looks to me like Lily has her paws full. She is all alone in a den with a squally baby.
Checking in! About time for a split! (Mits....not a spit!☺)
Shirley I don't want to be a bear.
