The beautiful Moose is on moose cam. The beautiful Eagle is on BWE cam. SD Zoo - 2 pandas up in the same tree. DC Zoo - 1 panda eating and 1 panda roaming.......
Got a call from Germany - every thing is ok. Eight inches of fresh snow! Izzie said Mema very clearly. She has learned to jump and thinks it is funny. Sammy was getting her to jump and so I could hear lots of laughter.
Daisy is doing VERY well! She had FINALLY started leaving the cats alone...I think she knows now that no amount of prancing around them is going to get them to play with her! It's a huge relief because if it had continued, I don't think this would be the best home for her...a home without cats would have been better. But, it's worked itself out (with a little help from Mr. Spray bottle and lots of praise when she is calm around them, no to mention a few well directed swats from the cats!)
Wed ? Is it repairing our cam or putting up a NEW cam. I can't remember what Steve indicated. Anyone remember? Of course I wish it was turning on the Live Feed !
Thursday The cam is obviously giving us a great deal of trouble. Yesterday afternoon we determined that the damage caused last week by the wind also impacted the power supply to the cam and perhaps the cam as well. We are working closely with a top Fish and Wildlife Service Bald Eagle expert on the best time to go up in the nest at this late time to replace the cam and cables. Right now, the window for doing this is mid next week. More when we know it.
I am really running behind today. I really slept late and I usually do not do that. Guess I needed the sleep. This cold weather though keeps me under the covers longer. lol
Can hardly wait for Wed and the new cam. Think I am having withdrawal symptoms. And, today the NBG comes on. Let's get this season rolling.
Have discovered Sudoku on facebook. That is not good. Like I needed something else to do this computer.
Morning again everyone!!! Gotta go to the doctor today to get the results of the EGD I had before Christmas. Hope I get back home before yet another snow storm comes!!
As usual, I am very jealous of your trip on Saturday. Okay, lets have a contest. Let's see which one of you can come up with the best picture. lol Get out those cameras and go to it. If I can not be there....I want a good picture of an eagle!! Or make that eagles.
Hi Everyone. A NU camera????? Hope they can show something online. Where I work WED., can get online. Maybe Wanda will have to do another field trip to NCTC! ☺
Thanks for bringing that message over, Wanda....had forgotten exactly what was said. Of course, no guarantees that we will be able to view anything that day---there may well be more techie stuff to do once the cam is in place.
Lynne, so glad taht things have improved so much with Daisy!!
Time for some lunch...and then I think another nap. BBL.
I hate to leave this fine company...but I have not even eaten breakfast. lol Coffee has been sustaining me until now. LOL Here you are talking about lunch and panda naps.

Good afternoon, Everybody! Gosh, I seem to be getting in here later and later! Got Hubby off to work, and promptly fell back asleep. Woke up kinda late, and got a bit of work done before coming here to see how you are.
Lolly, I know what you mean about feeling cold and not being able to warm up! I'm like that a lot too, but I think it's one (or two) of my blood pressure meds that cause it. Drives me crazy! Feel like an ice cube sometimes.
We went and saw 'Avatar' in 3-D yesterday, and if you're going to go see it, it's definitely worth seeing in 3-D! Visually spectacular! I think it may be my favorite movie ever! Took a whole new technology to make the movie. It's not animation, but computer-enhanced images. Loved it!

The National Zoo's giant panda mating season began earlier than expected again this year. Mei Xiang and Tian Tian attempted to mate on Saturday. Over the course of a few hours, Zoo staff carefully observed the pandas' activities and, because competent mating did not occur, Zoo scientists and veterinarians performed a nonsurgical artificial insemination later that evening and again Sunday morning.

Got my students' SOL scores. They all passed. (I have only one class testing right now, and it is the dual enrollment kids.)
On the other hand, I gave back my senior research papers. here is the rest of the article on the giant pandas that Lynn started above.....
Both pandas were anesthetized, allowing the scientists to collect semen from Tian Tian and insert it directly into Mei Xiang’s uterus.
It appears a new January ovulation pattern is emerging for Mei Xiang; until last year, typical ovulation for her has historically occurred in March or April. Giant pandas have one very brief breeding season each year, with only a day or two of actual mating. The early start of these past two seasons is unusual, but the expertise of the Zoo’s staff enabled them to immediately identify signs of this early reproductive activity and prepare for an artificial insemination.
Early last week, the Zoo’s animal care team noticed Mei Xiang exhibiting signs of an early estrus, including distinctive vocalizations that are associated with mating season. Staff immediately began monitoring the hormone levels in her urine, which allowed them to predict the exact moment she had ovulated. Timing is crucial—female giant pandas only have about one day a year in which conception can occur.
There is no conclusive study that indicates what causes panda ovulation. Although scientists know that giant pandas mostly breed in late winter to early spring, it is not known if the onset of reproductive activity is triggered by increasing day length, temperature, or some other environmental factor.
Zoo staff separated Mei Xiang and Tian Tian before performing the artificial insemination. They will remain separated for the next few months, until Mei Xiang either delivers a cub or Zoo scientists determine that she is not pregnant. Keeping the pandas separated will reduce the risk of increased stress-hormone levels in Mei Xiang, which could jeopardize a developing embryo. Panda gestation typically lasts from 90 to 185 days. Veterinarians and scientists will monitor Mei Xiang’s hormone levels and perform ultrasounds to determine if she is pregnant.

Here is a FB message from Debs' sister, Dianne: (it is a back and forth between she, Pam and Janie at Birds of Prey NW. Have found out that their website is temporarily down.)
Dianne Cooper January 7 at 11:14pm Report Lynn: Pam got this from Janie yesterday. Do you know her website address I am having a hard time finding it. Info that Janie shared with Pam yesterday. I have tried numerous combinations and it is not working
From: Janie Fink To: sfsdpkp@aol.com Sent: Wed, Jan 6, 2010 10:05 pm Subject: RE: Memorial for Deb
Hello,
I hope you enjoyed the best of the holiday season.
I see you are making weather news this week!
I wanted to let you know that I have compiled the donations for your beloved sister’s memorial fund. I have sent them to your mailing address. It was touching, but not surprising to me, how she impacted people with her dynamic personality in such a short time. I remember when we first met, I felt an ease with Deb and her love of eagles that I won’t forget.
We created the Deb Palmer Memorial Fund through our nonprofit Birds of Prey NW. I have compiled a few of my favorite images of Deb and wish to post these along with any of your own favorites you might wish to include, onto our website, this month. It is a small way of honoring her giant heart…
I think the time to plan Deb’s summer memorial might be while the young osprey are still held captive in the reintroduction tower, and when most of the volunteers would be present. I am scheduled to arrive with all the baby osprey on the 26th of July. I will hold the youngsters for just about ten days. I will be in South Dakota until the 1st of September. Let me know what you decide so that I might be helpful.
Hugs across the miles,
Janie
Hi Janie,
Yes we have had quite a bit of snow so far this winter - we had 31" in 2009 plus the wind so the drifts were pretty high. Then we had a night in December that was 30 below so we broke records with that. Now tonight we are having another blizzard, not that much snow but it is dry and fluffy with 30 mile per hour winds so it is really drifting. I live outside of the city, so am staying in town tonight - the hospital is putting so up at the Holiday Inn (they did that at Christmas also - I stayed there for 4 nights before I could get home). Could you send me your mailing address - I did a calendar with Deb's pictures as a memorial and have one to send off to you. I am gradually getting them all sent off.
Amanda picked that last weekend in July because she has to be back for start of school the 1st week in August, so this will work out just right. See you this summer.
Tonight Clear. Lows 5 below to 10 below zero. South winds around 5 mph early in the evening becoming light...then becoming south 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Lowest wind chill readings 10 below to 20 below zero after midnight. Tuesday Increasing clouds. Highs 28 to 33. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Lowest wind chill readings 10 below to 20 below zero in the morning.
Some of you were watching eagles on USee. com & when I typed it in got all kinds of flack about domain Error & security has not been approve----close this site---yada, yada, yada. Maybe that's the wrong address???? (I really don't need any more sites! My Faves is ten miles long! LOL)
GOOD EVENING... Even though I have a NEW KNEE and a NEW HIP, I cann't open the Lilly Bear Cam:) I guess a new BRAIN might have helped. Maybe a new 'puter...working on that purchase. Thought the TLC I gave Capt. Gene last night after the fire alarm and the CPR and MOUTH to MOUTH to get the smoke out of his system, would get me a new 'puter, but it hasn't come yet. It may be the fact that MOUTH TO MOUTH is no longer necessary:(
Lynn, thank you so much for working on the calendars. We need to compensate you in some way! Maybe a Cruise or your own Snow Plow;) Thank you so much for your work on this...We love you much! Take your time, do it when you are much better:)
Max & mommy are recuperating nicely, He's back to normal except for little cough. He'll be 2 next Monday and his brother Jared will be 20 the following Monday. Max was a miracle baby and we're glad he's here.
Wanda, sounds to me like you didn't do enuf TLC if that new puter hasn't come yet!!! ROFL! Have Adobe Flash....maybe need to delete and download it again!!
Glad that Max is doing better, Diann. Mits, have you gotten any word on Ben and Maggie yet today??? Calendars WILL be delayed a few days, I'm afraid, gang. Ran out of envelopes, and sure don't feel like going out. Maybe in a day or two!
I left a message on Annie's phone this a.m. Lynn, have not heard back, but know she is really busy, might try to call later after the kids are in bed....I don't want to be a pest, her parents live 5 minutes away, so I know they can help out, if needed.
Mark McGwire admitted he took steroids. You think! Makes my blood boil. Will he give back all the money he made or the awards for the baseball record. He is sorry.
We were really short handed today. I came home and took a panda nap. We pack them in groups and we get finished the first group and we have a sandwich and a pastry left over. Had to reopen all the bags. We were late leaving and some of the people were patiently waiting. The lady that gives us candy forgot we were coming. Rats.
Well, I missed the bear action this afternoon. However....are you ready for this?...it got up to 55 today, bright sunshine and I worked in the yard. Wahooooo!!!! Got myself a little vit. D!!!!
The water hoses thawed out so Jack burned leaves. We raked and cleaned a few flower beds. Daffodils are coming up.
went out yesterday and got a primrose plant, a cyclamen and a dozen multi-colored roses, just to spruce up the kitchen now that the decorations are all put away.
just a law in our county, no burning ever, think it has something to do with polluting the air....we rake and put to the curb and the county picks them up.
About NBG cam today- WVEC page administor has been called out of town today and Monday so we will continue to work on some issues remotely, but slowly. Right now we are TENTATIVELY thinking that we can launch the regular cam next Wednesday, depending on resolution of last few problems. My fingers are crossed as I say that.
Lolly, your 55 sounds delightful! Daffodils already???? Yeah, McGwire---everybody knew but him, right??? What a scumbag. Sure hope they don't let him into Hall of Fame---and hope they stick to their guns and keep Pete Rose out, too! Wonder if the feds will charge McGwire with perjury for lying to the Senate committee????
Okay, I had been staying away from the bear cam but can't stay away any longer. I had to use your descriptions to know what I was seeing and am still not quite sure but I do know it is a bear!
It has been a dog-kind of evening here. Hairy escaped and I chased him everywhere cause I just didn't want him to kill another cat. To my knowledge, he didn't and came back home. Then Buddy had to roll in a little doggy do and make me gag quite nicely. All is clean and secure now, thank God!
Just got off the phone with a friend. She knows I watch a lot of cams. Her grandson is 10 (I think) and got a labtop. She wanted some cam sites. She asked the right person. Kid will never get off the computer.
Hi, Gang, I'll soon be getting ready to leave for school. Got some errands done. Find that my printer is out of ink! Rats--gotta go get some more. Hope I have enough of my homework printed up! Had to research cost of reference books for medical transcription (dictionary, medical dictionary, Stedman's book of Abbreviations & Acronyms, Quick Look Drug Book, PDR, specialty Word Books--at least 2, AHDI Book of Style or AAMT Book of Style-- 3rd edition). The idea is to search Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Borders, or even e-Bay to find the best prices. Need software version price if available. Fun, huh?! Turns out that lots of what I'm looking for isn't available for the Sony Book Reader I have. Guess it's kinda new or something. They have more for Kindle. Trouble is, lots of these sites I'm supposed to print to show pricing, print about 12 pages! Oh, well, guess I need to go get new ink. I'm going to go eat some quick dinner, and head to school. Maybe I can print more there if I get there early enough. Talk to you all later tonight! :o]
Nope, hibernation is kind of a myth. From what I understand, their metabolism slows way-y-y down making it unnecessary to for them to consume much food, and makes them drowsy....but they aren't in a coma or anything deep like that! They get out and roam around some when they want to!
Thanks, gang---I feel a smidgen better, but not a whole lot!!! Going to re-download Adobe flash on PC and then watch Jeopardy and House! BBL. Andy, bet those books are all pretty steep!
Thanks for all the good information, Lynn, and your dedicated work with Deb's tributes and calendars and keeping us all updated by sharing emails. And, hope you will continue to recover from the yuckies.
Lolly thanks for the Lily link....will watch but can't right now. Sorry your card was late! But happy you got it today.
Bob Ryan lied. I just looked out & there is snow on cars, etc!!!!He showed might be some in mtns., like around Wincester. True Zoo Story~~"Binky Takes a Stroll" This PM, I was going to store. Fubby opened door to tell me something & the ever clever Binky zoomed out & jumped off deck to driveway. Immediately, Shorty, the squirrel, jumped up on the deck & ran fast behind house. Binky, startled, got on tiptoes & jumped back to deck & went behind house also. Meanwhile, F was getting his shoes. I came back up to door & held it open while calling Binky, hoping for a miracle. She came around side of house & ran indoors!! I was told she then licked her feet. She may have gotten into the snow!Snow can be good!
Margy, if you find those Roman numeral keys, let me know. I need to help someone with that.
I heard that they stopped telling people to call 9-11 and started telling them to call 9-1-1 because some people couldn't find the 11 button on their phones.
I have returned from Pizza at Uno's and about 4 other stops looking for the burgandy drapes for the living room. No luck with the drapes being found yet!
I was just thinking about Lily and if we are concerned about our eagle couple being disturbed when we replace our cam, why don't we think Lily was disturbed? I am so glad she has settled down and is resting/sleeping again. I sure hope she does have some little cubs.

Thanks Paula - I see my answer about 'replacing' the cam.
Watching USee, Mits. They really do like to attack each other over the
food. They are acting just like a
vulture......
As usual, I am very jealous of your trip on Saturday. Okay, lets have a contest. Let's see which one of you can come up with the best picture. lol Get out those cameras and go to it. If I can not be there....I want a good picture of an eagle!! Or make that eagles.

She would have a good future in a situation like this.......
yeah and it is funny, Jo, the juvies have no fear of the adults, they just tear into the food after they have chased them away
Hi Everyone. A NU camera????? Hope they can show something online. Where I work WED., can get online. Maybe Wanda will have to do another field trip to NCTC! ☺
I am with Lolly on that one, jealous and all!!!

13 eagles on the cam now at USee
I am curious about all those eagles on usee. Did they catch their dinner or did someone throw out fish? So many of them are eating.
Those swans are really honking away on USee. Lolly I have no idea - when I start watching it is always there when they turn the eagles on.
from what I know it is a private sanctuary, and they feed the birds and the deer
Great pic of all the swans and ducks at USee
Lily the bear is laying with her head by cam, really cute:)
I see the white swans - are the others the Tundra Swans?
The white swans poke at them...
I hate to leave this fine company...but I have not even eaten breakfast. lol Coffee has been sustaining me until now. LOL
Here you are talking about lunch and panda naps.
Have a great day....I'll BBL!
I think they are tundra swans....
awwww, there is Lily, kept seeing her back all a.m.
Thanks for the heads up Megan
I even got on the cam with the first try - only 2633 viewers..
Good shot of her head......... Just maybe we will be able to see newborn cubs..........
Watching 2 juvies sharing their prey..
They must have been in a clutch of 2 or more and not an only eaglet.....
food looks like some kind of bird carcass, like a turkey or chicken
Well I am watching Bear Hair but I don't know where.......
Just saw Lily scratching under her chin
I wish I could read like how soon the cubs could be born..........
This is very interesting watching Lily the Black Bear. Sound is very good as I can hear her breaking off roots in her den.

Subject: RE: Memorial for Deb
Hello,
I hope you enjoyed the best of the holiday season.
Pam
So here we all sit waiting for a bear....
I do need to leave
Comment when Lily gets back in that den
Thanks.
she's probably eating dr. rogers;)
THANKS LYNN

Some of you were watching eagles on USee. com & when I typed it in got all kinds of flack about domain Error & security has not been approve----close this site---yada, yada, yada. Maybe that's the wrong address???? (I really don't need any more sites! My Faves is ten miles long! LOL)
It's Da Bear!!!
Loretta, have never had that problem, sent you the page I use, they are showing the deer now.
Lynn, thanks for listing Janie's info about the Deb Mem. Fund. How great that they will all be able to get together this summer.
That's nice, Lynn. Thanks
I can't get Lily's cam to open on either computer.........boo!
just look at that bear!!
BTW, Shirley, love the "can't find Roman keys"!!! Looks just like Jay Leno's street quiz!
guess NBG did not come on today:(
She is all curled up...
Bear is snoozing. Cam is so close you can only see 1/2 of her.
TY, Helen. Will check in awhile~~~ cooking & then shampoo time.
I just checked too Mits...oh well, maybe something went wrong.
thanks for the info, Lynn
GOOD EVENING...
Even though I have a NEW KNEE and a NEW HIP, I cann't open the Lilly Bear Cam:) I guess a new BRAIN might have helped. Maybe a new 'puter...working on that purchase. Thought the TLC I gave Capt. Gene last night after the fire alarm and the CPR and MOUTH to MOUTH to get the smoke out of his system, would get me a new 'puter, but it hasn't come yet.
It may be the fact that MOUTH TO MOUTH is no longer necessary:(
You do have to have the Adobe flash player to watch the bear cam.
Wanda, you so funny.
Hello eagle momsters and dadsters.
hi ya, Thelma:)
Wanda, sounds to me like you didn't do enuf TLC if that new puter hasn't come yet!!! ROFL!
Have Adobe Flash....maybe need to delete and download it again!!
Good to see ya MITS. How 'bout them Ravens!!
Glad that Max is doing better, Diann.
Mits, have you gotten any word on Ben and Maggie yet today???
Calendars WILL be delayed a few days, I'm afraid, gang. Ran out of envelopes, and sure don't feel like going out. Maybe in a day or two!
yeah, Thelma, how about them there Ravens, surprised me, might not be so lucky next week, but at least they got to the playoffs:)
I left a message on Annie's phone this a.m. Lynn, have not heard back, but know she is really busy, might try to call later after the kids are in bed....I don't want to be a pest, her parents live 5 minutes away, so I know they can help out, if needed.
Wanda I really thought the mouth to mouth would get you a new computer.
how was soup and sandwich day, Ceil, any thing interesting happen?
Lynn don'w worry about the calendars, worry about getting better......!
Rats.
yeah like the whole world did not know that:( what a duffus.
I love the bear cam.
yep, gonna be a bear:)
I love daffodils, we are not allowed to burn leaves here, Lolly
went out yesterday and got a primrose plant, a cyclamen and a dozen multi-colored roses, just to spruce up the kitchen now that the decorations are all put away.
Trying to figure out what I can see on the Lily cam. Anyone have an idea?
Lily's head is on the right, just behind that stick that's poking out into the pic. SHe is facing the cam.
she is laying on her back, it looks like, can see her nose and eyes that are closed
now a close up of her face
We can burn when a burn ban is not in affect. We get burn bans when it is too dry.
That is her face? Can not figure it out.
just a law in our county, no burning ever, think it has something to do with polluting the air....we rake and put to the curb and the county picks them up.
Her head is right behind that stick, her paw is covering her face, she is curled up in a ball facing the cam.
sometimes she puts her nose right up to the cam
I love it when she looks right into the cam.
I know, she is very pretty.
her eyes are open
good TV tonight, House is back on and new season of Dr. G medical examiner:)
Whoops, that was from Friday, so they are hoping for this Weds. now
Wednesday is going to be a busy day
Lolly, your 55 sounds delightful!
Yes, Lynn, the daffodils are up a couple of inches, some just peeking up.
How are you feeling this evening, Lynn? Any improvement?
well that sounds like fun , Sharon
Margy.....! You doll!! I received a delightful card in the mail today. It made my day! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
(((hugs!)))
Oh, Sharon! Pets are such fun.
snowing at Pix cam
you can also access the bear cam from the Pix site
Bear moved! Saw her face.
bear can't get comfortable
Wonder what she is doing. Looks like she moved a little out of her den.
left the den
she's back
Just got off the phone with a friend. She knows I watch a lot of cams. Her grandson is 10 (I think) and got a labtop. She wanted some cam sites. She asked the right person. Kid will never get off the computer.
your in trouble now, Ceil:)
I thought when they hibernated they stayed in a deep sleep. Not this bear.
me too, but from what I have been reading, must have been an old wives tale
Lily is only 3yrs old
Maybe it will keep him out of trouble. He does do sports. He is a great kid.
Hi, Gang,
I'll soon be getting ready to leave for school. Got some errands done. Find that my printer is out of ink! Rats--gotta go get some more. Hope I have enough of my homework printed up! Had to research cost of reference books for medical transcription (dictionary, medical dictionary, Stedman's book of Abbreviations & Acronyms, Quick Look Drug Book, PDR, specialty Word Books--at least 2, AHDI Book of Style or AAMT Book of Style--
3rd edition).
well off to find some dinner for myself...ttyl
Aww. Has she had cubs before?
wow this bear cam is amazing!! did you see those claws!!
I don't know, but there are other bears they have watched before, just not on live cams
No Ceil and they are not 100% sure she is pregnant, only that this would be the first year that she COULD be pregnant.
I hope she isn't going to move all that debris in front of the camera! Wonder if she is "nesting" in prep for birth!!
this is her first set of cubs
Nope, hibernation is kind of a myth. From what I understand, their metabolism slows way-y-y down making it unnecessary to for them to consume much food, and makes them drowsy....but they aren't in a coma or anything deep like that! They get out and roam around some when they want to!
Lynne isn't it amazing. I can hear her sniffing.
I know!! What fun to watch....dinner is gonna burn.....
from bear website...
The bear in the den is named Lily and she is 3 years old. She is pregnant and expected to have cubs sometime in mid January
She really is restless!
looks like she's gotten herself all tucked in and snug...I'm jealous!
thanks Lynn I always thought it was safe to go in the woods in the winter.
Lolly she is restless. Poor thing. Maybe she is in labor.
Thanks, gang---I feel a smidgen better, but not a whole lot!!!
Going to re-download Adobe flash on PC and then watch Jeopardy and House! BBL.
Andy, bet those books are all pretty steep!
Just aced the HORSE category on Jeopardy! Not so much elsewhere!
Looks like our bear is resting comfortably for now....
bbl Think I will rest awhile.
OK, better go save dinner before my poor husband gets home and has to eat shoe leather....BBL
Good Evening Happy Bear-Watching Eagle Pals...

Your kid laughs from Germany sounds great ☺
and Lynne things sounding great for Daisy too...☺
ok bath is ready and so am I
Lynn, we used to get mail addressed to Mr. and Mrs. IV because my ex is C____ P ____, IV. I always thought a computer did it, but maybe not.
Dinner is done, fire is roaring and I am bathed an in my pjs. Going to be a comfy warm evening.
Watching The Bachelor.
Bob Ryan lied. I just looked out & there is snow on cars, etc!!!!He showed might be some in mtns., like around Wincester.
True Zoo Story~~"Binky Takes a Stroll"
This PM, I was going to store.
Pook's pup Sidekick is out in the drive way with the moose! Really a cute dog.......
