MITS - I am watching Panda cam 1 at NZ - There are very interesting sounds coming from Mei Xiang this a.m. especially since her actions yesterday. Hope you get a zoo update as to what may be going on!
Snow is much deeper and covering things at snowman cam... Birds enjoying the grain on the ground in PA woods... Moose are hiding out this am... Looks like current date on the WildWatch Lake WA cam this am... MT nest at Caltrans..Cam did open for me MT snowy nest in ME MT nest in OR BUT BWE has both in the nest........
Mema - I think it will generate more or less from where we see Venus in the sky, probably lower...tonight anyway, but it always catches me by surprise when it starts to cross the sky...
That was beyond beautiful! Yep, Mema, I could see it coming too, I think that was a Baby-maker, and how kind of Liberty to help with the nest afterwards... Really a nice event to see.
Hi gang. Power holding! Thank goodness. I don't rely on it for heat, but an electric fan does help disseminate the woodstove warmth more thoroughly thru'out the house! Jim...question....Buddy update is dated 1/13..same one you pointed us to earlier this week...is something wrong with my link that it's not showing more recent??
Glad you are back on Hedgie! I am going for a nap, thought I was going to get out and be alive but it isn't going to happen yet, alarm set to watch the sky tonight. I saw the Northern Cross last night and if it is out tonight I'll try to describe where it is...that toolbag will be hard to see it! about as hard to see as the Magpie Star. TTFN all xo
I think that Atlanta must not be too swift in the fundraising arena....if they were, they would not only keep the cam up, but they would also arrange some kind of volunteer bamboo transport!!! JMHO.
Hedgie there is food laying in the nest. See the small branch part we get to see on cam on the right up from buttom of nest. Go out from that just about to middle and a little down. That is food.
Friday, January 16 In recent days Xi Lan has been spending quite a bit of time manipulating and mouthing bamboo. He won’t actually start to eat bamboo until he is about 13-14 months old when he has a full set of teeth. He will still be nursing at that age too. He will gradually eat more bamboo and nurse less over a period of a few months and by 18 months of age will be ready to be weaned from his mother. Although bamboo won’t become part of his diet for several months, Xi Lan is already interested in his mother’s primary food and is practicing skills he will need later to feed efficiently on bamboo, which is a tough, woody grass. All giant panda cubs spend time manipulating bamboo before they are old enough to ingest it. The behavior begins at around four months of age which is also the same age they begin to walk. This coincides with when they would begin to leave the den in the wild and follow their mothers to feeding sites. Rebecca Snyder, PhD Curator of Carnivores
Wow, I didn't miss it by much! Got a wild hair and went out to Swinging Bridge, was 14 went out and 10 coming back in, degrees that is, took my own advice and looked ridiculous, but hands still get cold. I don't know how Deb and Glo do what they do in the cold ! Hi Thelma! Glad you got to see the Eagles !
Saw one red-shouldered hawk, barely, he flew off just as I discovered him. Creek frozen over in spots, the sound of the ice cracking was awesome, at first I thought it was a big bird stuck trying to un-loose itself, then realized it was the ice heaving. Whoo, it is cold out there.
Yikes - Electric Company sent a termination notice to neighbor lady, think we chased the wolf away from the door just in time... feel for this elderly lady on a very fixed limited income. :(
If anyone can see Venus, that is about as bright as ISS is going to be tonight, and it should come from THAT direction SSW - I've still got most of my cold weather clothes on... Happy Viewing! Going out now to see if Northern Cross is out... back in a cold minute...☺
Northern Cross is straight out to the West and slightly north, looks like three stars in a rather crooked line up in a rather wide expanse along the "bottom" and one brighter star smack in the middle of those three, up above. Somewhere in there is little Magpie. A good star chart would do you better than this quick lesson ☺
Sorry for the delay in posting the squirrel photos.
I had just changed the message on the BWE cam page when I got the squirrel photos, and I like to leave the message up for at least a couple days, since some folks don't check in every day.
Well, I can't exactly say the ISS was bright as Venus, sorry for the wrong curve on that. Through field glasses it did, though! Came through nice, once I filtered out all the bright blinking things (airplanes) - when it got overhead it turned a fiery red then Poof! out like a light bulb! I am a happy sky-watcher ☺
That is hard to figure, Ceil...maybe all the wood stoves and heating things and steam?
I have city lights to deal with but am relatively lucky I can usually see most of my favorite things...
Nice goin' Hedgie... sometimes the little rascal looks a little DWI - I have noticed that with the iridium satellites (for cell phones I think) - verrry strange...
Well, time to lumber out to the grocery store. :( I have put it off as long as I can.
Take Care everyone, have a nice evening...hope it means you are going to be indoors for it. ☺ xo ♥
The pics from Mits & Dana of our visit were great! Thanks for keeping me up to date.
I sure hope Wanda, Gene & GeeGee are toasting in the sunshine. However some parts of FL the temps aren't too impressive. Who do we know in Vero Beach? It's only 55° there.
Jo, Our cousin lives in Florida 6 months out of the year and said it was going to be in the 30's tonight. I was just talking to a friend and her parents live on the Gulf side and she is going down next week to visit.
The LW nest has a lot of branches for perching... Their cam is really in the right position to view it all. One eagle still there out on one of the branches..
Good Evening Everyone! Couldn't get on at work today. Puter people had been there & networked all the machines in the building & now you need a password to get on anything! Been lining up all my "ski type" clothes for the AM at the Park. Hope I see a big bird. Will let you know. ☺ ☺ ☺
Broke the cardinal rule of grocery shopping, went in hungry! But I sure got some food! Time to eat.... If I miss some of you before I get back, Sleep Well, Stay Warm, and remember,
Tomorrrow, is the first day of the rest of our lives! Hope it contains lots of magic and wonder ☺ xo
Paula: I'm not too far from the part in Firefight, where Woodsboro's Ladder truck is called in. I was flipping through some upcoming chapters and it caught my eye ('cause Good Old Hedgie had made a few little marks..☺ )
I can believe that! It was all I could do not to go too far into it, but will probably get there tonight! I know it is going to be wonderful, I remember your talking about that a few months ago. xo God Bless....♥
Ceil, can't believe that you walked 6 blocks to the store!! Not only because of the weather, but the safety factor. You be careful, girlfriend!! Margy, so glad you're enjoying the book as much as I did. And hope you do, too, Paula, when you get to read the whole thing! Has your son said anything about his impressions yet?
My sister would love your avatar, Paula. Even tho' her heart is still heavy, as is her hubby's, wolves are still their universe. Very sad (to them) that they won't be able to have another one. I, frankly, am relieved. It wasn't so bad when they lived here in WV, but the rules in Missouri are so strict that it just plain wasn't fair to the animal at all.
I was watching some hr long shows on tv tonight and then the news.... Time to call it a day.. Thanks for the video, Paula. Hope the cam soon gets hooked up to server.
Thanks Paula for the video. That is the 2nd nest they were talking about that is 100 miles from the other Kent nest. He sure was right on the phone when he said, "the view is spectular". WOW !
Night to all Prayers for all needs Praises for answered prayers
LIbe flew in! Got right to some early morning mating- working on the nest cup now. And nopw Belle is sitting down in the fluff. Lib shakes off, and flies out.
Good morning Megan. I see an empty nest :(. BUT and here is the good news its 16 degrees where I live that is over 40 degrees warmer than yesterday. Dex and I are both very happy and off to coffee and dog treats :).
Good morning the rest of you sleepy heads and have a Great day.
Magpie Thanks for letting me know you stop by and enjoy Glo's Glimses. I froze yesterday but I was far from alone. I just knew the eagle buffs would be out given all the clouds coming in this weekend. Next time I best reserve a camera spot. They were hungry and fishing.
Hi Megan - and Glo - though I might have missed you both - oooh, missed a short but s♥weet visit, huh, was getting my serenity set for the day before climbing out of bed
I see that Eagle at BWE - looks some fresh breakfast in there!
Day Wishes to Everyone... It is a glorious morning....♦ ♦ ☺
I am interesting in knowing if you do anything in particular to keep hands and feet warm when you are out? Those are the first to go on me when I am out. Yesterday when I made a foray out to my favorite creek bird-watching spot, I could hear the ice groaning, and I thought of you, and what you hear out there. Yes, I truly enjoyed your new pictures and all the "old" ones too. ☺
Helo Margy and Glo:) Isn't that flying squirrel neat, haven't seen one in years, when I lived in NH, we had them in our yard. looks more like a flying chipmunk...
I got my nest mixed up the video Paula put up clearly said "Kent". The guy that called me was my call about the Maine nest. That is where a 2nd nest will be going up for SURE. They will be going to the Maine nest we watch now. To replace the infra red night bulb. Plus check out the area for the construction we are hearing. They do have to wait awhile due to the "cold" in Maine. Sorry my goof NOT KENT BUT MAINE I should have said at comment 11:45pm. He did say the view is spectular.
Just saved that site to favorites, Megan...I do like those little warming packs, but will search the other products....Thanks! Well, now to pull the plug, really.
Morning all from western PA. Still below 0 here this am. I caught a glimpse of the BWE a while ago but otherwise all are MIA I'm in hour 13 of a 14 hr. fast before some routine blood work is done and believe me I want some COFFEE
grannyblt: What part of Western Pa are you in? I have a friend at the NY-PA border (near Erie) who gets a pile of pine siskins and snow buntings at his feeders.

me too, Jo...been watching her all morning...know they have been tracking her urine for samples
Sounds as though Buddy's beak is doing well as far as growing normally. Wonder what his future is going to be ..
I could really get excited if the NZ would be expecting a cub!
Not quite noon & we are movin' on to the "OLDER' side!!!---

Off goes Belle
I do have sound
just got out of shower, put cam up before I left, sound still on....
HP happening at our nest!
That was beyond beautiful!
Yep, Mema, I could see it coming too, I think that was a Baby-maker, and how kind of Liberty to help with the nest afterwards...
Really a nice event to see.
In the midst of it I heard Eagles and then realized it was coming from Maine, since OUR TWO were on the nest here.
So good to have company for it, MITS, MEMA and SHARON ♥
well after I said how nice was to have sound still on, it is now coming and going again.
It was so windy when Liberty first showed up, then Belle, they were hanging on, then things got still and quiet...but I still had sound....magical
Catch ya'll latero
Just before Dad left I lost sound hit refresh and missed his take off, figures :(
Thanks for joining us! It was a beautiful visit! Just think...it won't be long!!!
Now I guess I can go get some lunch lol
Don't worry about me - I got my priorities in order... lol
BAMBOO
And just where was Paula hiding?
See you later, Paula...
Hope maybe someone, might know someone, who can help with the bamboo situation at the zoo:)
Maybe we could rent part of one of those fields at NCTC and grow our own to send to NZ!
MARGY---Thanks---need lunch too!!
Wish I could qualify for the Bamboo need, MITS...
I hear nut hatches, think they are at the Maine nest.
Time for another round of :
Happy Birthday Chrissy! ♥
Looks like another Stick Fight!!!
wish I could too...
Hi There Vicky! good to hear from you and I hope all is going well!
Where are you watching a stick fight?

Thanks so much, MEMA, for keeping up with all our birthdays!
Makes it fun to celebrate with the persons of honor ! ☺
Well, geez I can't give them quite an acre....
Okay, Vicky, now tell us how cold it is YOUR WAY !
Nice to "see" you ☺
Headed to the bus stop- half day today- want to be there when they get off the bus-I'm sure I'll have a van full...
See you when you return, Megan.
My cat is soooooooooo intelligent.
Goes to door - we open it - he turns and walks back to his sleeping quarters!!!
whew...we are up to 12°...
What is Washington county's school schedule for the 20th, Megan.
They have no school Monday or Tuesday.
I need to go put on some warm socks.. these bedroom slippers just aren't doing it.

Hi, Miss Vicki! We miss you hanging around!
Hoping the skies are clear this evening so I can see ISS. And, gee, we can even see that errant tool bag tomorrow evening..LOL! Thanks, Margy.
Megan, you have mail!
TTFN all xo
Oh, I meant to mention, the BWE nest really looks like it is getting worked on, all fluffed up.
Toolbag tomorrow night that is.
Shoulda left for the nap sooner.

Back at ya, Hedgie:)
I have bamboo Mits but its a little too far away. I contacted the Atlanta zoo and its too far for them too.
I think that Atlanta must not be too swift in the fundraising arena....if they were, they would not only keep the cam up, but they would also arrange some kind of volunteer bamboo transport!!! JMHO.
Maybe they can apply for a bailout check for their cam......
Hedgie, you have maail.
Megan, I'm sure the cam would be much more deserving of a bailout than these unaccountable banks!
Red, you have mail back!

Hi Thelma! Glad you got to see the Eagles !
My sound quit too T-Bird.
It is What It Is...
Hi Magpie-I thought you were 4 years younger after the Swinging Bridge fun. :)
Oh, that's hilarious, T, thanks, I needed a good laugh, my fingers are still cold and I can hardly type ! ☺
Yeah, that was definitely a good one. Love to laugh with you guys!
Got to run an errand for little gal next door, back in a few.

later Magpie
I hope you all have a good evening. Stay warm-talk with you all later.

Good sighting of ISS! Northern Cross, too! Lovely night...to be INDOORS!! Luckily, sunroom provides good viewing when the angles are right!
Thanks Lisa. Strange little critter.

Helo Margy and Glo:)
Isn't that flying squirrel neat, haven't seen one in years, when I lived in NH, we had them in our yard. looks more like a flying chipmunk...
Phooey, things are pokey on the computer this morning, guess I have to shut down and start fresh.
Hope I can get back on.
Here goes...
Good Morning Glo and Megan.
Sorry my goof
NOT KENT BUT MAINE I should have said at comment 11:45pm. He did say the view is spectular.
Here's what I use-heat factory site
My friend in New York (where it is now minus 7 degrees, has them at his bird feeders, in addition to everything else: including bears and turkeys.
Wonder what a Day Wish is..I think I left out the word Good
Just think, Megan, four days with no bus stop runs ! ☺
