I MISS THE ISS TONIGHT...THREE NIGHTS IN A ROW SPOILED ME. I WILL GO OUT AND WATCH FOR "LACROSSE 3" AGAIN IN THE EARLY MORNING...SAW IT THIS MORNING, IT IS ABOUT 1/3 AS BRIGHT AS THE ISS...COOL, REGARDLESS, THOUGH.
Yes, T-bird, was a water main break about a half mile from home...I was pretty sure I had made sure I had all the spigots off when I left for work, but there was this nagging feeling I was gonna have a flood when I came home..all was dry. I'll remember to put up a couple of jugs of water just in case for the next time.
Hedgie-It is hot and humid. Got up to 94 at one bank I saw. Ya know how the readings can be so different. All I know is this change in weather-from home in WV-is taking some getting used to. How 'bout your weather?
I have been so distracted with my Dustin's illness that I may have missed some FACIALS. Forgive me if I have missed you. There are about four of you who have FACIALS coming up. Stay tuned. Some a cute and some are goofy...depends on how you applied your FACIAL. LOL
Good evening all. I've been guilty of lurking all evening. This is the first time I have seen the chimney swifts. What strange little birds. Mother nature is surely a trip. Hope all have good dreams, see ya in the morning light!
So, I hear that Red is coming here in October and bringing us a cheesecake and Jim is also coming and bringing us a Fly Cemetary. Can't wait! LOL That is a challenge to you guys.
I have been counting swifts over and over again trying to figure out if I was seeing things or what. Here is what was posted on the site:
Family of swifts are finally allowing more outside swifts into the Tower.. Right now we have 4 adults and 4 babys in the Tower. I do expect more to enter as time passes... we have at least 30 or so if not more flying over the house on a regular basis..
Party is over - and clean up is done! Successful to say the least.
In October when Paula and Red bring their cheesecakes - I will be more then happy to judge which is best.. But you know me - sometimes it takes a while to make up my mind - a Libra you know! May need more then one piece of each!!! lol
Hey everyone... Just found out that our Glo out there in Quad Cities area is still without power!
They had 100 mile an hour winds two nights ago knocking out everything...had to drive 15 miles to find a gas station with power to get some gas.
Please keep her and all the folks out there in your prayers. I will try to find a URL to find out more. She needs to conserve the battery on her phone for now.
Ok, here is a connection to the newspaper in Glo's area. She is OK, and did not lose any trees, but just being without a/c or fans in this heat is bad enough!
Gosh, have not been able to get on blog 'til now. Am finally caught up! Anne-Marie, so sorry about your job! Hope you get everything straightened out & can retire if you want. If not, you certainly sound like a bright and talented person & should have no trouble finding something! Best Wishes & I love your kids' sense of humor!! Deb, your little cuties are coots!!They are adorable. I will print out some of those recipes tomorrow (some people are in bed--SHH)! How sad about the VA injured eagle---I'm glad I didn't read the story--I'd be up all night depressed. Paula, we always have trouble at work w/'puters---I found a foam cylindrical toy that was supposed to be a rocket. Took off the little fins & it wears a tag saying, "Puter Whacker--use to save sanity"!! It stays in the safe! Some have threatened to throw 'puter in the river!!
Hi again, I've been reading a little on "fly cemeteries" or "graveyards" or ......
Apparently, they weren't as limited to the nice old lady next door as I was led to believe. But they're known in a similar form in Scotland, Ireland, England and New Zealand ... at least. They're not exactly the same though, as they're often made of mince meat and the crust resembles cake or cookies more than pie.
She always used stewed raisins with a lot of cinnamon, and she had a special recipe for the flakiest pie crust you've ever had. You had to eat the finished goods with a safety net or you'd lose half of it when you bit into it.
All the kids in the area called her Grandma, and she was one of the worlds best cooks.
Thanks to all for the well wishes and prayers for Dustin.I know the prayers have helped in the positive outcome of his test results. My mother (Wanda) finally let him come home last night and trust me - he is fine. He only went outside long enough today to feed the cat and briefly pet the dog. His medicine does not taste as good here with me as with Grandma - but he is doing fine with it. Yes - Mother - he wants to come back to your house. Now that he has scooped up on "Get well" gifts from his other family at the "Moose"!!! LOL!!! I'm so happy to have him home. The quiet is terrible when he is not here!! Thank you so much to my wonderful parents for ALWAYS being there when needed!!!
I'm thinking of Blueberry Cheesecake and French Vanilla ice cream. OOOOh my! I do have frozen blueberries that Margy brought me. Don't know about the other ingredients. Hope I forget about it by morning....don't need all those calories. Had my caloric limit on goodies at granddaughter's birthday party last night!
GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE SLEEP TIGHT PRAYERS (ONE FOR GLO TO GET POWER BACK ON)
hope all have a good hump day-magpie-had a buck in the back yard this morning. Buddy spent the longest time out there just hoping it would come play with him. I guess that is what it was-I wondered why he lingered. Usually he goes to the bathroom and comes right back in.
Morning- wicked storms came thru here at around 1:30 am- rain and gusting winds-around 28 mph-took out power, just got it back on. More thunderstorms expected this afternoon.
Glad to read good news about Dustin. Happy Birthday to Diane:)
DIANE IS UP - - !! GET UP EARLY, TAKE PLENTY OF NAPS! TREAT YOURSELF LIKE ROYALTY TODAY, DIANE! ------ Good Safe 'Go to Work or Stay at Home' Day to all.
Good Morning! Nasty storms last night here in Linden. Power went out a few times.... actually dimming a bit now. Dustin is sleeping peacefully. Hummingbirds are fighting over the feeders. Gold Finch and Indigo bunting are on the other feeders. Have a wonderful day!!
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE... We had storms here last night too. I haven't been out to see if we had any damage, but I don't think so; it didn't sound very fierce. Butterfly Mama...it was good to see you on here this morning (and so late last night).
DIANE...sorry I didn't get to meet you. Wish you had come into the Eagle Express and had lunch with us. If I had known who you were, I would have dragged you inside to cool off and chat. Hope your hand has healed and is feeling better. I hear that this is YOUR DAY...enjoy! HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

Check out the chimney swifts, no one on the nest, they are all clinging to the wall.
Chimney swift

That must be Anne's new sugar daddy, she did good!
Someone asked that question on the blog. The guy bought very high tech infrared cameras to use for the swifts.
Good evening all. I've been guilty of lurking all evening. This is the first time I have seen the chimney swifts. What strange little birds. Mother nature is surely a trip. Hope all have good dreams, see ya in the morning light!
Anne shouldn't have gotten rid of that first sugar daddy!
So, I hear that Red is coming here in October and bringing us a cheesecake and Jim is also coming and bringing us a Fly Cemetary. Can't wait! LOL That is a challenge to you guys.
Deb - I just checked out the link about the eagle transport from the NBG forum - they had to euthanize the eagle.
Oh, Paula...so sad.
Oh, Paula, that is so sad. The poor eagle. The transporters must feel so bad, too, they were so excited earlier today.
Osprey at Finny on the water.
oh ok, glad it isn't shining in their little faces.....didn't get a chance to read about the eagle, at least he is not suffering now

So many problems are created due to no power.

Another thing I googled was Coots or Mud Hens.
I had always been told that their name, Mud Hen, came from their muddy taste, and they were no good to eat.
Apparently, they are considered good eating by many and there are some recipes published on the Net.
Probably can't find it at the local market to give it a try though.

LOL Nature...you have the river, we have the window!
I'd say the big problem this time of year, being without electric is the food going bad in the fridge/freezer!
Gnite, all!
Hope to blog tomorrow!
