THANKS SISSY----GUESS there will be no 'free lemonade' today in BLUEFIELD!!!---ho!---That's one of the first things I asked SHARON when I met her on here!!----It is COOL that you all do that!!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Good morning Sis and Normabyrd. I see we have an MT nest this morning. Still in Bedford this morning but heading back to Bluefield this evening.

Norma, the one big downfall about the lemonade thing is they measure the temperature at the top of a mountain where the airport is and way out of Bluefield city limits. Temperature does not always match.

normabyrd said...

MORNIN' SHARON!----SISSY misses you!!---Are you vacationing in Bedford?----(VA)?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Not vacationing, just spending a few days. Going home this evening after work. My sister-in-law, daughter and grandkids came here this weekend so it was a good visit with her. She is still having a hard time with losing my brother.

ceil said...

SISSY--SISSY!---I forgot!!---Yesterday--on the 'ANIMAL PLANET'--There was the COOLEST show!!!!---"GROWING UP PANDA" (i think)---It takes place in CHINA (TRUE STORY) & you see a 'BABY PANDA' born--watch her progress (she looks just like TAI)--does all the same things he did----climbing up the first tree she saw & couldn't get down, etc.---SHE IS GOING TO REPRESENT CHINA at the OLYMPICS!!!! They named her 'JING JING'-----She is a RIOT!!----'LITTLE BLACK & WHITE BALL' that gets into to every thing!!---Very intelligent too!!---The show details every little thing that is done to make sure she grows up PANDA---- a very GOOD PANDA!!---ho!--SHE WILL STEAL YOUR HEART!---Well I am sure she will steal the WORLD'S HEARTS when they show her at the OLYMPICS!!! You must see it!!----Your will just die!!!

normabyrd said...

SHARON---I have envied you from DAY 1----You all have such a close loving family!!!---That's almost rare any more!!----

MAKE SURE SISSY READS MY LAST COMMENT!!----Maybe she has already seen the 'GROWING UP PANDA'!!

normabyrd said...

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

No Norma, I haven't see it but I will look for it and record it. That is the only way I ever watch anything on TV.

normabyrd said...

MORNIN' RED EAGLE!!---WOW!--How long does it take you to mow your lawn?---We have had so much rain here in WV that mine has to be mowed more often!!---At least I can see more than the 'EARS' on the little rabbits in the lawn!!!

Mema Jo said...

Lake Washington's adult and the eaglet are in the nest.
Remember This up coming Friday is when Tom Otto is to climb that tree to reposition the camera and to retrieve any of the dead eaglet's remains to try to determine the cause of death.

Mema Jo said...

The 2 small osprey chicks are in the center of the nest on the Wild Watch Cam.

I counted at least 6 burrowing owls, Norma.
It is hard to pick out the flamingo chicks in that flock- You just have to keep watching all of their long legs and then all of a sudden a chick will dart through them.

Mema Jo said...

Good Morning

I am going over to read early morning comments. I received some emails from Suzanne - sure do miss hearing from her in the morning!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

No Sissy. I did not know that. That will be great.

ceil said...

Two juvies in nest.

ceil said...

You can really see the flamingoes chicks right now. Mei sure is sticking close to the birthing room. Hope it is for real and not a false pregnancy.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Oh Ceil, me too. Sharon and I were just saying she sure acts miserable enough to be pregnant. Bless her heart. Just acts plumb unnecessary.

ceil said...

Pardon my manners. Was excited to see juvies and flamingoe chicks. Good morning Jo, Dave and Red.

ceil said...

I have not heard from Helen since Friday. Think her company leaves today. Need her to reasure us that Mei is fine. BBL

Mema Jo said...

Seems as though when I leave - the babies come to the nest! I guess you all wish I would leave more often lol

Happy to see them.........

I didn't even try live feed yet this morning-

normabyrd said...

SISSY---I am so glad you are watching the ATLANTA 'BEAUTY'!!---This ZOO is working with the CHINA group some how!---A lady from ATLANTA was on the 'GROWING UP PANDA' yesterday!!---I wish you could have seen the way she would tease her MOM---LUN LUN!!---bite her on her butt, etc. & LUN LUN would chase her & hold her down!!-----Hard to see her sometimes--But I understand little MEI will do anything for cookies!!!

normabyrd said...

normabyrd said...

MEGAN---I didn't want to either---but it happened----now!! (when i grow up) means---my SECOND LIFE!!!-----I want to be "TALL" too!!!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Norma, I told Sharon, her being covered in bamboo is equal to me being covered in chocolate. Pure paradise!!

floralgirl said...

What Sharon.. no frozen fruitsicles..fresh bamboo, not a moment of privacy for panda Sissy..careful what you wish for Sissy, the cam operator has all the power. Norma, I'm only growing up once..and I do that under protest. Remember Peter Pan- "I won't grow up".... Off to get some work done, I just ate 4 chocolate chip cookies..shh..don't tell...

NatureNut said...

Megan, saw your new flower pics last night---they are gorgeous. If we didn't have a rascal cat, I'd buy them all!!!!

BTW, we got rain twice last night. About 6 it was light, but later on, about 9ish very heavy. BUT, that means I don't have to water!!!

Gotta run--Drs. appt--what else on day off?

Mema Jo said...

Megan - I think Jenny was using that as an excuse to go shopping and to the boardwalk. lol

I saw all those little owls, Norma.
I love them.
I have been watching the ferret mom & baby son on the DC small mammals cam. I think Mattie has been watching also.

July 14

Mei Xiang has been spending most of her time in den three. Typical for this stage of her pregnancy or pseudopregnancy, she prefers to keep to herself and sleep. On Thursday and Friday morning, we coaxed her out to the training cage for an ultrasound. It took a lot of effort from the panda, and her keepers. Just as we settled into position, Mei jumped up and then declined to return to complete the procedure.

She is generally comfortable and calm, and seems very introspective now. We can ask her persistently and nicely, offering all her favorite treats, and she will just sit and wait patiently for us to get the message. She will eat the treats and scent anoint with the ultrasound gel, but she cannot remain in the position we need because it is just not part of her plan for the day. Lethargy rules!

It is always amazing to see the effects of the now elevated hormone progesterone, which is responsible for the changes to a female’s body to support pregnancy. Mei is beginning to show maternal behaviors, such as cradling her Kong toy, licking and grooming her paws and nipples, and shredding bamboo. The keepers have added hay to her den for extra comfort.

The 24-hour FONZ volunteer behavior watch began this morning. Of course, we don't know whether Mei is pregnant or not, but we have finalized our plans for all possibilities relating to the birth of a single cub or twins. We are lucky to have so much information from our colleagues in the U.S. and China to help us prepare for the birth. This time around, we can also plan with additional confidence based on the knowledge gained from Mei Xiang’s own maternal behavior and experience.

Thanks again to hundreds of donors who are helping the Wolong Giant Panda Breeding Center recover from earthquake damage. We have received more than $56,000 and are grateful for your generosity. This fundraising initiative will end July 15, so if you have not yet made a contribution, please donate today
TIME WILL TELL
