Carol, the videos we have saved have been with Fraps (free version). Before next season, I plan on purchasing Fraps or perhaps a different recording program so that it may be clearer. I do have a program that may sharpen images but don't know about the videos. I am grateful we have gotten what we have though, as I am very inexperienced in this process. Learning more and more everyday!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Well, my friends of fine feathers, I am going out for a while. Keep good notes. Hope Glo gets on soon so she can frap if anything needs frapping! Be back around 9 p.m. Hope the live feed stays up for morning. That is when I need it!

wvgal_dana said...

Hi Nilla,
Went outside on porch to enjoy the shade and breeze for awhile.
I know you are right about when you go to the sycamore tree that the eaglets know it was you all. Just like when I went like you said; I truly believe they connect with us and can feel our love and encouragement for them.

NillaWafer said...

Hi Vicky, Your so right "OUR"Kids seem to sense us.. Or just plain show off's..lol That day Jo, Ang, Janet and i saw them they were soaring so high but with our binoculars could watch them,, was breath taking!!!!! Speaking of Ang (Angie) has anyone seen or heard from her?? Well i am going to upstate NY (Plattsburg) leaving early in am.. Havent seen my brother since our sisters funeral, so will be glad to see him.

wvgal_dana said...

I went back and looked through Todd's wonderful pics and also the nice pics of the visit the gal made to NCTC. What I was looking for was a pic of the tree that would show you where the eaglets were sitting above the nest. The day 4th of July that we were down there but sorry no pics shows those limbs.

wvgal_dana said...

Nilla when I was going over the pics of you all at the sycamore tree. I was trying to remember names to connect with on the blog here. And I was thinking the very same thing; "where is Angie"???
No comments have I read...did you all exchange email addys? Has anyone heard from her that way??

NillaWafer said...

Mema Jo said...

HI NILLA, WVGAL VICKY, JANET, CAROL, GLO
I have been entertained by one of my grandsons this afternoon until a little while ago when he headed home. He cleaned up my computer....
I have a pic of the nest tree from early spring...anyone want it(Carol) email me at jo_lennox@hotmail.com.
Have not heard anything out of ANGIE Usually she logs in when she comes home from work - she really could be on a vacation but it seems like forever since we've heard from her. I will email her..
I was watching the panda this early afternoon & TaiShan would not let his mother take her nap He was all over her-pestering & picking at her-she finally gave it up for a lost cause. Hugo is getting large & BirdGirl said the noises he makes are normal.I also have a concern about how he will be healthwise as he gets older. Birdgirl was funny when she said that he'll scare the fish away if he coughs!!!
NILLA enjoy your Jeep ride..Hold on to the roll bar for heavens sake!!
GLO I have a feeling that by the time I post this, NILLA will have sent you the connections to Hugo & Pandas - if not, I will. WVAGal: I have relatives on my husband's side in MtSavage(Near Cumberland) LOL

NillaWafer said...

Glo you can see the pandas any time last i looked they were sleeping but the cam is on. I think they take them inside around 5 pm.. I saw Tai nursing the other night. He will be 1 year old on Sunday July 9th.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I guess there isn't anyone in the nest right now, huh? Can't tell from the Spirits of the Eagles and Spidey's handiwork! Goodnight all. See you in the morning light.

I am going out of town Saturday morning and won't be back until Sunday evening. There has to be lots of blogging going on so I won't miss anything. No access to a computer while I am gone but I have tried to figure out some way. Haven't done that yet!

wvgal_dana said...

vicky from oakwood il
I'm not sure spidey takes it down during the day. I was thinking with all the flying in and out that the eaglets/eagles wings take it down and spidey rebuilds it back. Just a thought??

In response to an earlier question about eaglets leaving the nest after fledging:

From Baldeagleinfo.com -
Once the young eagles have fledged (to acquire the feathers necessary for flight) they remain around the nest for four or five weeks, taking short flights while their primary feathers grow and strengthen. Their parents still provide all of their food.
The young birds, with the exception of their color, resemble their parents, but are nothing like them in behavior. They have to learn how to hunt, and they only have the remainder of the summer to learn. After that, they're on their own. The first winter is the most dangerous and difficult part of an eagle's life.
Higher predators are born with instincts that urge them to fly, to bite or to pounce, but precisely how to do these things is another matter. Through months of trial and error, eagles acquire basic skills such as lighting on perches or stooping on prey through practice. Eagles practice with almost fully developed bodies, and so sharpen their skills quickly.

The young eagle stays near the nest, practicing its abilities to fly and to hunt. The parents cannot tell juveniles how to hunt, they have to learn by watching the parents and by practicing. During this time they seem to spend more time looking at prey than they do actually attacking it.
Over the next month, they meet with their parents to be fed, but have little other contact with them. They learn to soar and to spot prey.

Until the first winter after their fledging, young eagles near the nest are often still fed by their parents. Although a young eagle has the instincts to hunt, it lacks the skills. If food is scarce during the winter, it may die.

Six to nine weeks after fledging, juvenile eagles leave the nesting area.

Well now hugo is pretty cute. When I heard the noise from the highway I think I did go there way back when ...sometime when we didn't have cams and we were all bored. Gosh it sounds like they are so close to lots of traffic trucks etc. hmmm. All 3 woke up, Then I think in their stork way cause baby was crying ...she sadi go fetch breakfast. He left and they are kind of napping. Pretty birds.

Mema Jo said...

Paula Tomorrow will mark one month since BigBoy's first flight. Then within the next 8 days, the others took their first flight 6/9 & 6/14. So we are nearing the final stages of our eaglets being around. I guess it all depends as to when the cameras stop rolling as to when we will be seeing the last of our Eagle family.

Just Vicky said...

wvagal-Vicky
You're probably right! He doesn't stand a chance with that kind of force blowing around!

movin said...

Re: The time at the nest after fledging. I got this from the "Eagle Facts" next to the still camera's images...

"The young will stay at or near the nest for the next 6 weeks while the adults continue to feed them and teach them to hunt and fish on their own. Young eagles are believed to return to within 100 miles or so of their own nest site when they reach maturity and are ready to mate."

I would imagine the time limit is variable, and the parents probably won't abandon them or force them out until they feel the eaglets can hunt (fish?) for themselves... especially in a year when the fish and turtles seem so plentiful.

I bet Big Gal has been getting some pretty good lessons from her momma in the art of plucking a fish from the surface of a river without getting her tail feathers wet during all her time off camera.

As expert as this couple of parents has been so far, it's a good bet they will do as well at teaching the youngsters to hunt. I don't think we have to worry much about that.

6:41am Friday there is no action in nest but a small bird flying around landing in the tree.
Good morning everyone in eagleland.

wvgal_dana said...

Those blackbirds I believe there are two are on limbs below the nest. They keep fooling me when I first see movement. Thinking at first it's our eaglets flying in outer area. Then I see it's that darn blackbird again.

wvgal_dana said...

6:54am It is so still out there makes you first think "live feed" froze up. The large leaves that normally blow so you can tell the pic is working are as still as can be.
Good morning Suzanne and Janet M.

wvgal_dana said...

Doesn't seem like the eaglets are bothered about them for lunch. They enjoy too much their turtles and fish. Only probably scare them away if eaglets wanted to.
Now if they were starving good be a very different picture for those blackbirds.
Yes and tiny they do look. Your right there.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Good morning, my friends of fine feathers! I hope this finds everyone doing well this morning. I am starting work, have Fraps handy so I can save whatever we do get to see today! Make a good day!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Suzanne, the leaf to the left of the nest is moving every so slightly. Just think there is not much of a breeze this morning. That is always my test spot for seeing if it is frozen.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

It is Saturday and Sunday that I will be gone!

wvgal_dana said...

Suzanne I already lol closed mine out and brought it back up. The leaves are very still. Maybe we need the blackbird to come back so we see movement lol. I rather it be the eaglets though.

wvgal_dana said...

Well Nilla left early this morning.
Safe journey to you Nilla and son.
7:14 empty nest leave moves just slightly.

wvgal_dana said...

7:18 Blackbird in nest. What a poor example for an imitator! lol
Son let me tell you "you'll never grow up to be an eagle".

wvgal_dana said...

mema jo this comment is for you. In the nest twice this morning has been a blackbird. Jo hae you ever heard that blackbirds like to steal things and hide them in their special spots?
Well you know the turtle shells that are suppose to be at bottom of tree. Looks like we are going to have to go on a blackbird scavenger hunt after the eaglets leave. To find those turtle shells.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

The eaglets must not be near teh tree this morning with all the little stupid bird activity around. These little birds wouldn't even be much of a snack for our little darlings!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

7:35 a.m. MT nest.

Geula said...

good morning, eaglet people! I just saw a little bird in the nest...well, maybe it wasn't a VERY little bird-just looked that way because the nest is so big when it's empty. How funny that is! When 2 or three are in the nest, it's SOOOOOO small! I looked up blackbird in 1-Click Answers and we've got them here too!

Geula said...

The only way I know that there's live feed is because the sun in lighting up the nest....not a breeze in Sheperdtown. Amazing.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Just saw a bird flying at about 12 o'clock. Couldn't tell if it was a little bird near the nest or a bigger bird out from the nest. Otherwise, MT nest at 8:01 a.m.

wvgal_dana said...

Any guesses on who it is in nest?
I am only guessing Bigboy and MsInBetween?? Help me out here 8:50am

wvgal_dana said...

No I think at 12 o'clock position is Spunky he still has those feathers at his feet. hummm

wvgal_dana said...

8:54 the one eaglet came across from the 6 o'clock position and started beaking the beak of the other eaglet. Showing some sibling rivalry here maybe. Now side-by-side at 12 o'clock position. Now one eaglet moves the one that came across nest stays at 12 o'clock position. Now it(lighter eaglet) moves towards other eaglet again. Now they remain one back at 12 o'clock and over moves towards launch pad looking down and around. Think that is either Spunky or MsInBetween at 12 o'clock (darker eaglet). 8:59 darker eaglet at 12 o'clock position took off. One eaglet still a 3 o'clock launch pad position. Lookng all around even behind itself like looking for food drop off. Beak moving like calling; can't hear the sound on that's right is no sound. Now it moved to 12 o'clock position and layed down. I'll end this at 9:04am so this one doesn't get too long. Maybe already is.

Mema Jo said...

9:14am Sure in a hurry to get out of the nest - I thought the eaglet was going to fall head over heels getting out of there- you would have thought another one was going to land on her.

Good "not so late" Morning to all of you early birds

They really did make off with all turtle shells as far as I can see, wvagal Vicky

My nonexistent short term memory only allows me to go back to seeing a fantastic live cam coverage of a pair of nesting eagles in Shepherdstown ('bout 90 minutes from where I am)
How I stumbled on the NCTC website I dont remember, suffice to say I was "here" in time to see 3 eggs nestled together and it just blew me away.
"We" have a pair of nesting eagles about 10 miles upstream on the South Branch of the Potomac River, which runs just west of town, in an almost inaccesible section of the river known as "The Trough. This pair has been there been there as far back as I can remember....
(ref: http://www.potomaceagle.info/ )...
Im not much of a chatter but do so enjoy reading the other blog entries........
Again thank you ALL for the warm welcome....I am thrilled to be an "eagle grandpa" .........and KUDOS to whomever is responsible for the LIVE cam coverage as I have watched all 3 babies fledge with great pleasure..........

The Hornsby Eagles actually were an infertile pair for whatever reason, and many up there were heartbroken over when the eggs didn't hatch and the mournful sounds of the parents will almost tear at your heart if you listen. I stilll can't listen to any of their tributes to these eagles without crying.

When that nest failed they quickly moved the cam to where you see them now which is Vancouver Island British Columbia. They have no shots of the eggs before they hatched, but they were aware of a second nest to watch. I know the link at birdspeak says Hornsby and it was for quite a while but it is NOT the Hornsby Pair.

Lots of them however are pretty close to each other over the sorrow of one pair and now the joy of this second pair who will hopefully continue to fledge and maybe even return to let them know they are fine.

I know it is confusing, and it could be one in the same group of people BUT when they talk Hornsby they are pretty much very sad for the eagles and themselves in what happened with that pair this year. I hope that makes sense.
They also as many have mentioned before have some fairly mean spirited posters who have made some of the viewing of even the new pair not near as fun and exciting as ours. AND

Like us they have a few viewers who are wonderful people and I'm sure will stay bonded by feathers as time passes too. I made a tribute to the Hornsby Eagles on one of my Blogs back on Mothers Day.

It actually told a human drama my own family had experienced in a profoundly eagle kind of way.

here is the link:

http://onthegowithglo.blogspot.com/2006/05/even-eagles-have-to-wait-on-lord.html

be sure it ends in lord.html

It sort of tells the story of what eagles you are watching and why, without sifting through thousands of posts on that sight.
