Update and plans as we go forward, and there are two scenarios:
Scenario One-- we are working on the fix for the current still cam issues. The problem is a battery in the system that may need to be replaced. If we can do the fix easily without buying a replacement, the cam should be back up soon.
The cam would be then shut down on August 1 for maintenance and off season adjustments. Steve thinks the fledged eaglets will be off on their own around that date, so it's a good time to take a break. As you all have noticed, the cam has been down a bunch in the last month or two, indicating the need that we do some real work on it. Also, our contract for the live cam ended last week, thus the live cam is now down as well until next season.
Scenario Two: We can't easily fix the cam without ordering replacements parts, and this results in us shutting things down this week.
Regardless of which scenario plays out, the plan would be to keep the cam down until sometime in November when the adults begin working at the nest again.
We are intrigued by ideas to add audio, and we would like to pursue that and other ideas.
I want to thank our technical team for really doing all of the work and having the inspiration to get this project going--John, Jonathan, Mike, Brad, and Keith should all be saluted for what they accomplished--this was their baby. Our biological staff also had a big part--thanks Karen and Steve. Thanks to Randy Robinson for researching a live cam solution and making it happen, also thanks to our Production folks who helped.
Finally, thanks for your your continued enthusiasm and support of this project, it went beyond our wildest expectations. We do look forward to working with you as we continue this project into the future.
I didn't want to just see the cam shut down with little notice, so I wanted to get with you in advance to tell you all what's up. I hope we can get it back up for the next week. We'll keep you posted on progress.

I can't believe Hugo is gone. My heart is so sad.
Shufflin in with head hangin down and tears on cheeks after reading that Hugo passed away, after such a glorious time yesterday at "OUR" nest seeing the kids up close as we got, then coming on and reading that just devestates me. I had such a hard time getting in here so this might be along one to read. I admitt yes i did kinda.. sorta flirted, not mention he was acutie to..lol Waaalllaaa he gave us the permission to drive right in and stay as long as we wanted..Admit i did caress his arm a touch..lol Well any ways everyone else has just about said everything we saw , but friends when they started giving us that show OMG i wish you could have been there!!! Oh and Jo forgot to mention i did get her in the jeep and off we went around the back of the barn to see if we could get abetter view.. All of a sudden we saw and heard alot of vocals and a parent came flying in really fast,wings were in the nest flying and thats when i said hang on Jo!!!! Around we went (Jo hangin onto roll bar) There set Spunky in full view even without binoculars we could see her. Vocals sound like a chick peeping only louder.. She did that for 3/4 hour or more Oh and there was another kid near by in the nest .. Finally she called out with peeping 5 times then down to 4 and finally 2 peeps and we saw the lil stinker had been setting on food!!! She had a feast alone, Before i forget Paula did take some pictures of me holding bones of turtles in my hand ..lol Let see so hating to leave but very hungry ourselves we manualy torn Jo away from the trunk of the tree and with tears said HiiiidddeeeeOOoOse to the nest.. What a spectacular day of sharing. laughter excitment and the slendors of Mother Nature provided us with Sunday as if "OUR" Kids knew.. truely amazing!!!! Thank you Jo for the birthday dinner.. Meeting everyone was Marrrrvelllous Just Marrrvelousss, now time to plan for a get together of everyone!!! I do want to mention that Paula living where my step- brother lives knows him and his wife Sharon and it is a small world huh..lol Ohhh i know i am rattlin on but When Todd pulled up and stopped he says to me I think are you girls lost or something to that affect..lol then says he is Todd once again i sorta kinda touched his arm..lol out the car window.. YADA YADA im a touchy feely kind of person what can i say.. Oh and Glo whats this about something you made with a jeep about me??? Jo called you husband said he tell you ok call..
Just thinkin maybe my next adventure could be driving down and spending alittle time with Mits during the week when her hubby is gone and we can go for crabs!! YUM YUM

Nilla, I was thinking the same thing about the food for Hugo. They intervened by placing him up there, and if they knew he wasn't getting enough food, why not intervene again. Just don't understand but I guess I am not supposed to.

I am very saddened at Hugo's death-especially the reason for it. He was my midnight viewing-I would always check on him. I just strongly feel that his death was very unnecssary with all the record keeping that site did - especially with the other 2 that passed - Maybe birds don't have feelings but I just know Mom & Dad have lost 3 young ones - and that has got to be hard to take.
Oh yes ,birds have feelings,take a look at the pics of the Hornby bald eagles after their eggs didn't hatch.You can look in their eyes and see the pain and grief.Makes no sense to me why they wouldn't do everything they could to ensure Hugo was fed well,after all the trouble they went to to place him in that nest.

Well, it's bad news about the camera, but it's not entirely unexpected... Everybody is thankful to Steven and Steve C. and the team...
In addition to the "sounds" next year, you guys might consider a camera that can be redirected as the action changes... I notice some of the animal cams have the capability of change of direction (and even change of lens focus), but I have no idea of how much more expensive or technically difficult that is.
At least we know from the ladies, who trekked to the site Sunday, that the eaglets are still wheeling overhead at the nest site and are alive and healthy.
And now we have this "momsters" group of friends to carry on until next year.

Right Louise the Navy is looking for an Irish Settler with big puppies....LOL...You Ding-Bat, making me laugh when I feel so sad about HUGO. JO I'm going to miss my nightly visits with him also, its funny I looked in on him last night and it would have been 2:00a.m. their time and I saw him lying at the bottom of his Mom's legs. I wonder when he passed.

So sorry to hear about Hugo... I never went to the site, but enjoyed hearing everyone's reports on his progress. I truly hope the cause of his death was not starvation - that is such an awful,needless way to go. If they've lost so many to the fungal infection, then intervening to feed this one that would've died without their initial intervention wouldn't have been risking overpopulation. In for a pint, in for a pound. I just hope it was a death that didn't have him suffering. Best wishes and luck to the parents for a happy brood next year.
Makes me thankful for the millionth time at how fortunate our eagle family has been so far.

Vicki IL Glad to see you are home safe and sound and that your trip was definitely More than worthwhile. How cool for you. Did you bring your camera along too I hope I hope. Already saw some pictures from the event. What a day you all shared together. Looking like it could be pretty much the last sighting of this years fine feathered "younger eagle" friends. I'm counting on seeing Liberty and Belle in November, and who knows if Jo can find her way to Batteries Plus and she and Nilla ride on over in that jeep with the local Fireman...Jo could climb up there, replace the battery, get those turtle shells for a reward, and we have a picture again!!!
So as I see it, Nilla is responsible for getting the Fireman's co-operation, and
Jo is responsible for replacing the battery and getting the turtle shells she wants as her reward
So I would say Go for it!!!!

My film has dutifully been dropped off at Wal-Mart, with instructions to return it with a digital cd. They are supposed to be back on Wednesday, so hopefully some pics will be decent enough to post on the site! It's hard to hold that darn camera still when you're leaning back like that!

THE trip was great, BUT THERE SURE IS A LOT OF CONSTRUCTION GOING ON ON I70 in Ohio mostly! Goodness, had to keep the speed way down to 55 and that's hard to do!

For those of you that missed it last night, the whole evening could not have been anymore perfect and seeing Todd just completed it all!! Our "kids" put on one heck of a show! ALL 3!

Hi Janet, Yes from what i heard and read in the blogs over there in english he passed away evidently from starvation.. dam shame if you have read the comments from above it is very upsetting to many. Janet the show was unbelievable.. Almost for 5pm til we left around alittle after 8 pm non stop.. Meeting Todd was just aperk.. Now Janet you have met me and you know i am innocent of all charges. Naaaa i am not...lol

VickY I'm so glad you made it home safely. Hope the hotel was a nice treat to top off the evening eagle watching. Always nice to stay in a hotel knowing you don't have to wash the towels and make the bed, clean the sink etc. Of course you could've stayed with any of the rest of us and not had to do any chores, too. But I understand wanting a little 'luxury' once in awhile :)
Ladies - goodness - Todd's cute, indeed, but c'mon! I sure am glad I'm married to a cutie so I don't just have to 'dream' :) Poor Todd is going to be afeared of us all!
