Thanks so much for the live feed, Steve. I think Spunky just fledged about 20 minutes ago. Pretty sure it was him. I have it saved (I hope).

Anonymous said...

Steve live feed is up but the picture is bad.

Anonymous said...

I think that is Spunky sitting on the launch pad still.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

No I think that is BigBoy. I reviewed the video again and kept a track of Spunky and that was him that launched. I am pretty sure of that.

Anonymous said...

I knew I should not have gone for that cup of coffee!!!!

LIVE FEED LOOKS A LITTLE BETTER, STEVE MUST HAVE TURNED ON "THE MAGIC BUTTON" SORRY I MISSED THE SPUNK-MAN. SHARON LET ME KNOW WHERE I CAN SEE THE TAKE-OFF, PLEASE! SOME OF THE LANGUAGE YOU ALL USE IS GREEK TO ME, I'M STILL AN AMATUER AT THIS HERE COMPUTER STUFF.

Anonymous said...

Is that MS-Inbetween tripping over her food?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Now for the biggest bummer of the day -- it didn't save on Fraps and it has already dropped from real player. I am bumming really big on that one!!

Anonymous said...

Awesome description, West Virgina Girl. I felt like I had a front row seat, now I can't wait to see it in action.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Okay Steve, begging now. Can you get the clips of InBetween and Spunky's fledges. This really sucks!!

movin said...

Morning...
I missed it all too, being 3 hrs. behind, but that is "Spunky" sitting on the launching bar now....

I do not believe he has fledged yet. No way he could have made it back already.

We all have his first flight to look forward to yet.

Happy viewing...while I'm missing it at work.

9:28am Good reading on the blogs this morning! Confirmation of 3 first flights will be when the nest is completely empty & then filled again for a visit. Sure looks like MsInbetween at 4:00 and Big Boy (?) at 12noon resting. Just guessing. I'll get geared in here as I just had my first cup of coffee.

movin said...

Looks to me like "Spunky" on the launch area, looking around, thinking about his first flight, and it looks like Mr-In-Between flaked out in the shadows at 12 o'clock.

Even the smaller ones have filled out so much it is hard to tell ID from the size sometimes.

Sharon,
We can put a link to the video on Yahoo

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

My video didn't save so I hope it wasn't Spunky.

Mema Jo said...

9:47am When prsenting your guesses as to which is which - remember the white feathering that Spunky still has. I am just grateful that we know they are all safe & I hope someone gets the clip of the 3rd first flight for Spunky - whether or not it has happened yet. I have promised myself not to get too frustrated today.... HaHa!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

With the mention of the white feathers, that looks like Spunky at 12 o'clock right now. I will take it. Picture is much clearer now. Thanks Steve. I am with you Jo. Work is aggravating enough, don't need any more!!

paula eagleholic said...

Wow, who is who? Was that spunky that just came back?

floralgirl said...

Oh, how frustrating it is to read about the live feed when all I have is this slow dial up connection! On the other hand, it is so great to be able to witness these wonderful birds thriving so close to where I live. Thanks to Steven and all the others who have given us this great experience.

paula eagleholic said...

I believe it was, he is the smalled one in the nest,

Mema Jo said...

10:15am I was so hoping that mom/dad would come in and supervise!!!For alittle while, anyway.

paula eagleholic said...

Jo, looks like that was a food drop or a quick check

paula eagleholic said...

Parent back, feeding Big boy

Anonymous said...

I did see a parent in there at 10:14 eagle time, and then leave. Now at 10:19, other parental visit! This time no food in the beak and the parent is eating what is in the nest. So like teenagers -- the first to leave were stubborn and stayed out all night, and now they are all back for dinner and laundry!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

She is feeding them. How cool is that. My real player shut down and I had to restart my computer to get it back up. Skeered me!! Now, who is who. I am sooo confused this morning!!

Anonymous said...

I agree with Jo----I don't think Spunky has fledged----remember all those white feathers she has----

We should call them "The 3 Musketeers"!!!!!!!---they seem to get along so well-----

Mema Jo said...

10:22am It seems like old times!! Isn't this soooooo special! What a parent!!

Anonymous said...

What did spunky take off to eat over there?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I am going to say Spunky is to the right of Mom getting fed, BigBoy at the top of the nest and InBetween right beside Mom. Anybody else agree with that? Don't think Spunky fledged either.

Geula said...

WOW! quite a crowd...3 eaglets and a parent! good to see that...

Tell me......when can I get a life again?

Mema Jo said...

10:24am GUESS - Big Boy at noon, Spunky at 2:00 and Inbetween beside the parent ----Now they just moved all around - BigBoy still does his 'hop' moving... I give up - no more guesses for me.............

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

10:27 a.m. Oh come on, Jo, keeps it exciting. BigBoy is definitely the blackest. InBetween the biggest and still eating to get even bigger and Spunky just flapping his wings.

Mema Jo said...

Sharon - I think we guessed the same! Aren't they something else - all in that nest! Oh, so much flapping. Love it that the live feed is up! That might be Spunky exercising his wings...

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Spunky (I think) looks to be the same size as BigBoy now. Okay, I give up.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Okay, now who was it that just flew off?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Of course, the live feed went back to the beginning so I could not review it.

Mema Jo said...

Melissa - I can't be certain. Afraid to even take a guess.

Anonymous said...

I think Big Boy just returned and Inbetween is under the camera and Sppunky is up top laying down resting for the big event. Does that sound right to you others? Not sure they are all getting to be just about the sames size.

paula eagleholic said...

I think Inbetween left, Big boy at top, Spunky at bottom.

But I think it was Spunky that left this morning.

When he came back, he has same colors as Inbetween, but is smaller. Big Boy is the darkest.

That's my opinion...

My real player has shut down twice this morning and wouldn't come back up until I restarted the computer. I am sure with all the videos and pictures I have saved on here, the memory is getting mighty low. Might be the problem.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

WV Gal, how did you save the video?

Mema Jo said...

11:18am It really looks like Spunky on the nest at 4:00. If Spunky fledged or when he fledges, he won't be back for awhile to the nest. Right?

Just Vicky said...

I know Little Guy "Spunky"at least went branching because I saw him take off, but I'm not smart enough to know how to get a video of it! I even lost my connection in my excitement of trying to do the Frap and couldn't even rewind to watch it again! Boy was I mad at myself! Hope someone comes up with it because it happened this morning!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Is that Spunky on the launch pad and now flapping all over the nest?

paula eagleholic said...

Looks like Big Boy laying down and Spunky by the trunky

paula eagleholic said...

Did someone just drop off a huge fish?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

That has to be BigBoy eating now. Did you see him cover that fish with his wings?

Also, I can not do the review on my real player anymore. Is anybody else having that problem?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Something out there sure does have BigBoy's attention. Not even thinking about the food at the moment.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you Sharon. I really thought it was Spunky that fledged this AM but it also seems strange to be that he would be able to come back so quick. I don't know what is more scary...watching the eagles or getting ready for "another" hurricane here in Florida. Gee who put the bulleye back on Florida again this year.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

No doubt, anonymous. I hate that they have another one coming in Florida. They need to move to WV and away from there. Of course, we had hurricane Hugo come right through Bluefield several years back so I guess no where is safe from mother nature!

paula eagleholic said...

Maybe Big Boy and Ms Inbetween told Spunky when they were visiting yesterday that if he left, he better show back up for Mealtimes - that it was hard to hunt all on your own!

He was gone for over an hour, right?

paula eagleholic said...

Guess they needed some encouragement from Mom - "you know, boys, there are starving eagle over in Africa - clean your plate" LOL

Anonymous said...

Paula - did you get my e-mail yesterday? I want to be a momster!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

All three in the nest again. Took that food right away from Momma. That looks like InBetween!!

paula eagleholic said...

I'm not sure if I got an email from you yesterday or not. Did you get an invite back from the group?

If you didn't get an invite back, email me again at pccompton@yahoo.com.

Or we are also in yahoo groups - Go to Science/biology/animals/birds/raptors/eagles and we do show up in there now.

paula eagleholic said...

Wow, Family lunch! Cool!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Did the live feed just go out for anybody else?

Anonymous said...

live feed is out for me..

Sharon
Do you live in Bluefield? I have family that lives there.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Anonymous, I do live in Bluefield and have all my life!

Anonymous said...

Has someone contacted NCTC to let them know that the live feed is down?

Anonymous said...

Sharon
Do you know the Bartels? My uncle runs Bluefield dental lab.

Anonymous said...

NO LIVE FEED FOR ME....

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Live feed is back up. Thanks so much.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I graduated from high school wiht Kurt so yes I sure do!! His dental lab is about 3 blocks from my house. Small world we live in. Where are you?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

WV gal, I sent you an email back!

Anonymous said...

Sharon
That is too funny! It really is a small world. I live in Hagerstown Maryland. If you would happen to see Kurt and Oswald, tell them hello for me. I haven't been to visit in a while, since my father's funeral. His name was Terry Shaw.

Anonymous said...

Hi Serena in Hagerstown! I'm in Hagerstown, too!

Anonymous said...

MOM/DAD, JUST BROUGHT SOMETHING BACK TO EAT.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I don't know what I was thinking, but I thought once they fledged, there were only few visits to the nest, only few feedings and they were to be taught how to do this stuff for themselves. Today, it is like they have never fledged. What wonderful parents we have here. I was thinking we were about to have empty nest syndrome but how can we miss then when they won't leave! LOL.

Anonymous said...

Man, that is a nest FULL of birds!

Anonymous said...

Oh My, in my previous post there were 4 birds, now all 5!!!!

Anonymous said...

Hi Sunny in Hagerstown!

Anonymous said...

GUESS THEY ARE NOT HUNGRY, BUT MOM/DAD IS...

Anonymous said...

Spunnnnnnnnnnky pllllllllllllleaaaaaaaaaaaaaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eat!

Anonymous said...

OK ALL YOU EAGLE EXSPERTS OUT THERE, QUICK, WHO IS WHO?????

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

OK Mits InBetween is eating again, spunky is lying down and BigBoy is perching above Spunky (or maybe vice versa) BigBoy is lying down and Spunky is perching.

Mema Jo said...

2:10pm I have been out for about 3 hours, but thanks to all your comments I feel I've been here all along! I hear you all saying it's still questionable about Spunky's first flight.....Guess I'll be glued to the monitor again..........

paula eagleholic said...

Sunny,
I just found your email. Yahoo put it in my bulk folder (junk). I'll send out your invite right away. Welcome!

Anonymous said...

THANK YOU SHARON!!! ANOTHER QUESTION BECAUSE THEY PARENT LOOKS KIND OF SMALL, DO YOU THINK THAT IS DAD????

Anonymous said...

Thanks Paula, I'll take care of it after work tonight!

Bird Girl said...

Steve, will these eaglets be banded for future data collection, etc.?

Bird Girl

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Bird girl, we asked Steve that question before and he said because the population of eagles is growing, they don't feel it is necessary to band these eagles. I wish they would put cameras on their heads and let us travel with them. That has happened before. Really cool contraption.

Mema Jo said...

2:23pm Inbetween is surely getting comfortable - really spread out relaxing up there at 12noon. I think Spunky is really getting ready... to do it!

Bird Girl said...

hey everyone, I finally got the live feed! yeah!!!!!! it's up and running as of 11:25 am Pacific time...

Bird Girl

p.s. The osprey chick is soooo adorable!

Anonymous said...

Bird Girl/Sharon: Steve C and Steve W also told us last week that it's too late to band the eaglets now. I think they said that after about 8 weeks, it's too risky for the human because of all those talons!

Mema Jo said...

2:26pm Did you see that hop! skip! jump! and almost away we go..........

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Jo I did see that. InBetween is so funny, just spreading out all over the place. Is that Spunky at the launch pad?

paula eagleholic said...

Bird Girl,
Are you watching the osprey chicks at Blackwater? In case anyone hasn't checked on them lately, they are really getting big, really pretty coloration coming in. And I believe there is still 4 chicks in the nest....in all the excitement here lately, I haven't checked in on them very much, usually have them and our eaglets up at the same time....

paula eagleholic said...

Looks like a lazy, dazy day of summer!

Anonymous said...

Can someone tell me who is who. Which one is on the launch pad and who is at 12?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

To me in my uneducated opinion, it looks like BigBoy at 12 o'clock and Spunky at the launch pad but it is so hard to say because they have gotten really close in size. Other opinions?

Bird Girl said...

Actually, I'm watching the Connecticut Audubon Osprey Camera... she has 1 chick and 2 eggs. She just fed the chick and has settled in for a rest. She took a few minutes to tidy up the nest. What's that blue thing in the foreground of the nest???

http://67.86.143.68:81/view/index.shtml

I can understand about the talons. I rescued a baby barn owl the other day, and already his beak and talons were SHARP!!!

Bird Girl

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

WV Gal, I said totally different from you. That is too funny. I thought it was Ms. InBetween flaked out all over the place taking a nap. But who knows?

Bird Girl said...

did the live feed just go down?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

My live feed is still up.

Anonymous said...

Sharon---I know from experience, when "kids" leave the "nest" they always return with laundry----looking for home cooked meals-----I have heard that "some" never leave----but we have learned how to get handle that---WITHHOLD FOOD!!!!!-----Eagles are the best parents in the world---

paula eagleholic said...

Bird Girl,
I think that is the osprey with the blue teddy bear

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

There is a lot of white on the eaglet at the launch pad, so I am going to say that is Spunky.

Anonymous said...

OK, SO I AM DATING MYSELF, BUT THIS REMINDS ME OF ABBOTT AND COSTELLOS' "WHOSE ON FIRST BIT". ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE OLD ENOUGH TO REMEMBER THAT BIT???

Bird Girl said...

it's amazing what birds will drag into their nest! surely the osprey didn't think it was food?

one nest I found had easter grass woven through it, all different colors -- it was quite pretty!

paula eagleholic said...

I agree w/ WV Gal Spunky at noon, Big boy laying down, Inbetween at the launch, although, now Spunky is laying down in the middle of the nest

paula eagleholic said...

Bird Girl,
If you go to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, and check out their osprey cam web log, one of the posts talks about the quirkiness of osprey housekeeping. There is also a bunch of different links to view osprey nests with weird stuff in it from that web log.

Bird Girl said...

Paula, do you have the URL? I had it somewhere and now I can't find it....

Thanks for the info!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

When Spunky spread out in the middle of the nest, I knew it was him. I think now that it is BigBoy at the launch pad and InBetween lying down at 12 o'clock.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Okay, now who is who. And, the picture is getting yucky again.

Mema Jo said...

2:55pm NEW BLOG UP.......MIDDAY

Okay, I just went to the Osprey site. That teddy bear is so cute. All babies need a teddy bear to cuddle up to.
