DEB Regarding the Snowy Owls. In the early 50's, my brother remembers Snowy Owls perching on the roof tops and poles when we lived at the VA Center in Martinsburg. My naturalist friend at Roger Tory Peterson Institute in New York had this to day about Snowy Owls: "When I see them around here they are either sitting on a building, fence post, telephone pole or airport runway. Usually I see or hear of a few around here each winter. This is not their normal range but when lemmings are scarce on the tundra they will move south until they find suitable prey. Like many birds of the far north they can be seen far south of their range when food is scarce. The first or second year we lived here there were Snowy Owls everywhere. I have not seen a year like that since."
He moved up there in 1968...so he's been waiting a long time to see them again. He also remembers the shrikes impaling some chow on a fence post...on an old farm he had near our Swinging Bridge here in WV.
Ha! Maybe Steve had double-posting events like the rest of us do sometimes! Or else it is just Hallowe-en in the circuits ! This has the feeling of strange day !

Looks like we have two TUESDAY THREADS...or am I in the Twilight Zone again?
Nope, Wanda...Mits mentioned it...not sure what that is all about, I saw the new thread and started posting, didn't even notice the second one til you all did.
Maine sounds like a horror movie in the making, and whatever they are doing up there is kicking up some dust ! I'm turning it off RIGHT NOW !! Woof !
sounds like they are taking down trees or brush, up in Maine...hear the buzz saw, then the wood chipper
Margy don't know if that is dust or just the a.m. mist off the ocean
Bluefield looks like a Christmas Card. Is Sharon and Sissy on here yet...I'll have to look back over the morning comments.
Oh, yes, they are both up...Good Morning girls!
Margy, get your boots ready, we will have some of that any day now.
I wonder if all that noise and commotion in Maine will cause the eagles to settle in elsewhere?
Yes Wanda, we are here and watching it snow! *(#&$@!A#)(#*!!!!
Was thinking the same thing, Wanda.
lots of action going on at BWO....think another eagle was trying to land on the nest, and the eagles chased it away
Yep, here Wanda!! Supposed to end up with a couple of inches they say. Already have an inch on the daggone ground!!! I am with Sharon @#$@@%#^%^#!!!!

Looks like heavy fog at Maine cam. and sounds line something from outer space is near. lol
Are those large fish in the platform at BWO ???

Well, I see our 30 second cam didn't last long today. It is stuck again.
