Good Morning - I think there must be more to come over. I just signed in and WOW Our Nest looks soooooo GOOD! Thanks John and Thanks Steve for the new thread.
Going back to previous thread! Then going to finish emails! Then I'll Be Back!
Wayne--The last to leave Yankton has made it to the Platte River in Columbus, NE. Not far at all yet.
Avista: The first to leave is in Phoenix City, GA.
Deb: Second to leave, Grand Isle, LA (yes, this is my bird)
Drag Queen: third to leave is near Laguna Morales, first to leave the US!
We always worried about Drag, she started off so slow with her leg dragging in flight. Whatever was wrong, she overcame it and appears to be doing great!
The 5th bird with long distance tracking has a bad transmitter and can't be tracked. We tried to catch her and take it off, but that was not successful.
No updates until after the 10th of October, Wayne seems to think he needs a vacation.
Silly man, doesn't he know we want to know where our birds are!!
Ok Megan - Bob can follow one of us but I suggest 2 other cars right behind him - just to be sure there are no wrong turns or as you said about missing the right turn up to the Clarion......
I just remember that when I pass the Grave Yard to get ready for that 2nd right hand turn!
Jo, osprey stay south until they are two years old, then they migrate yearly after that. At 2 years old they start a nest, but usually aren't successful the first year in egg laying or hatching. Mostly, it seems to be a year to establish a nest.
They are very welcome news. When we didn't hear anything for so long, I was imagining the worst. One day we might get news like the wayward osprey, that will be a sad day for us. As of now, we can all pretend that all 18 birds are still flying high, but deep down know that would be very unusual. My theory is that until someone tells me different, they are all still alive!
Deb - I can tell that this past year's experience for you has brought you a great amount of satisfaction. You have been so very fortunate and possibly this will make a difference as to what lies ahead in your future. I am happy you found us.
You're not even close! Mits says we are getting you a police escort! We are going to have fun at this dinner cause you are going to be there for sure - one way or another. lol
I hope you get in the Eagle Express, Deb. I think Margy's work schedule is coming around that she will be free Saturday. Deb as long as you don't forget the name of 'Clarion' or 'Rumsey' you won't get lost. Bob just can't remember the names!

2008 Season Diary Updates
Thursday September 18, 2008 The picture you see if you click here will be a familiar one for the next few weeks as the eggs are rarely left uncovered, rain, hail or shine. For Peregrines, the incubation period is 33 to 35 days from the date the last egg was laid. A quick calendar check and it looks like an expected hatching day will be around October 5 - 7.
ZZ is quite the cub! I hope LL will be doing the same. We have a lot of pandas to be watching. Thanks, Jim for the link. I love their new post card page.
I need some late lunch.....
Keep working on it Bob - This is only the 1st of Oct - you'll get it in time not to miss dinner. You almost had it with the Rum......
Just popped in here and you all have made me smile. You are such a great bunch of people. BOB...I like your name of the restaurant better than it's real name (Rumrunner is great!) Love photo of Thomas lighthouse. I'm not familiar with that...must find out more about it. SMILE MEGAN, WE LOVE YOU. Come see the Capt. and maybe he will give you and Eagle Talon. LOL
Cold weather slows down the stink bugs- that's why they are trying to get inside to escape the cold. I ain't smiling yet, Wanda- I know you can relate to computer issues- I don't know what is in kid's computer, but it has got a hold on it. I may need a geek...
It is getting very hot here in So Cal this morning; so I did an emergency water run to try to save my Geraniums and Bougainvillea. :~D
I think I might have brought them back from the brink, but while I was out there, checking the Hummingbird feeder and finding it low but not empty, I happened to remember I wanted to see how the birds would do with plain water...
I poured maybe a cup into the second feeder and took it out there and set it in the shade on top of the a/c, and it didn't take more than a minute after I got back inside for the young male to notice it and give it a try. Then he flew to the regular one and tried about 3 of the flowers to learn if they still had nectar; and then right back to the water, where he took a nice long drink....
Thanks John & Steve - I see the cam ticking away. Later this month you won't need to change it to Eastern Standard Time because it is already there! You fixed 2 birds with 1 stone so to speak! lol
That is great about the time change! Now the children going out to Trick or Treat will have more daylight. It used to be pitch dark before they even started around 6pm.
I just have to tell you I would be so fired from my job if I worked at the Atlanta Zoo. I would not be able to keep my hands off of that precious Little Luney!
Loraine and Gary's cam is up and working at Wildwatch and Loraine posted a few pictures of Star and Spirit. Not the best pictures, but until they get the new servers hooked up, it is better than nothing!! Loraine takes pictures of the monitors, then posts the pictures.
Margy even though he is still a baby. He is getting older and mom can stay away for longer periods. Oh my did I say that "he is getting older"....cry cry Don't you sometimes just wish he could stay a baby. Then we would miss his tumbling and climbing episodes if he stayed a baby.
I love the way that little bottom part of his body fills out when he breathes, kind of like a balloon! He seems pretty content but I wish we could cover him up with a sweet little blanket
DEB - I don't mean to be ignorant, but what bird is that on your Avatar?...I'm embarassed not to know...but I guess the only stupid question is the one I don't ask...
I looked at your slide show late last night - Such a variety you had to take in in one afternoon! Get your Kayak - S'town is famous for the Potomac kayaking.
I think that is the Lord Blackwater of the nest we watch. I hope this weekend they visit this platform because then all those at Open House will look right out and see them!
Update on Atlanta cub. I'm pretty sure Mits did not put it on today yet. Want to stay out of the corner.I am on an ice cream kick. Going to get some. BBL
I checked our NCTC/FWS site today but advanced notice of events at Open House have not yet been posted. Steve said that the programs are not yet ready - thought I could get an early one so we would know what we had to look forward to and didn't miss anything. They always have the program at the Admin Bldg when you pull in. They also have shuttle buses that go between the bldgs where the events are held.
Well, I saw Venus, Jupiter, the handle of the Big Dipper, Antares in Scorpius, a bunch of airplanes and, One Great Blue Heron flew over the neighborhood. Honest! Gonna go prowl the streets to see if Luna will peer through the clouds..it might just be too NEWBORN to see...regardless of the clouds...
Well if you are prowling - take a flashlight and give us a call if we need to come over there and bail you out for just being suspicious looking! I bet you are wearing your bibs! They are going to come get you
Been sitting working on the calendar for staying with Tom's mother. That is a full time job, I tell ya!! But, we have just about got the month of October covered. That is a miracle all by itself. Not alot of cooperation but we got it.
SISSY - I actually decided to drive around on my second search. I did have my pajama bottoms on! I know the little rascal is out there, but too many clouds, and now, it has set for sure. But I saw a lot of campaign signs, one gaudy church marquee, and a few pretty nice Hallowe'en decorations.
Wish I lived close to you folks...I would take a few tours with Eppie for sure! Hope it works out and that all come into the fold...Many hands make light the work!
HELLO, EVERYONE quiet day at the zoo during my interpretation shift....and it rained cats and dogs.....all the Asian Trail Animals are fine....came in and did the cams from 4 til 7, got home made a quick dinner and am now going thru posts and e-mails:)
Good evening, gang! Long day, and so much mail and so many blos to catch up on. Happy Birthday, Molly! Tears for Deshar...may he ever soar in the hearts of all who love him. Prayers for good test results for Donna. Hoping the Bob will get leashed to someone on the 18th! Great pics, Bob!! Still have to look at Debs' trip!
October 1 Last week was an eventful one for Tai Shan. Tai was given a complete physical under anesthesia. Recently, he had been reluctant to eat leaf-eater biscuits. This is the time of year when pandas can be picky about their bamboo, but they usually continue to consume their biscuits. They never lose interest in the sweet and juicy produce (apples, pear, carrot, and sweet potato)! We decided to give Tai a physical so we could get a thorough body assessment. This exam also gave us an opportunity to evaluate a panda during its seasonal period of low energy and appetite loss.
Tai is in excellent health. His body condition, from his nose to his tail, with special attention to his teeth, checked out just fine. Of course, we already knew that he is just perfect! One interesting finding was some inflammation of his esophagus, similar to the condition called acid-reflux in humans. This was discovered by using an endoscope to look at his digestive tract. Similar medications are used with zoo animals to soothe the irritated esophagus. Although a lot is known about this condition, especially in people and some domestic animals, we are providing new information to our medical database on pandas. And I'm happy to report that Tai Shan is chomping on his biscuits like a champ again!
Zoo animals get physical exams as part of a comprehensive preventative health-care program. Scheduling is dependent on many factors related to the need to monitor health, based on knowledge of the natural history and health of particular species, experiences in zoos, and individual medical history. Every time a procedure is done, we build upon a comprehensive and ever-growing body of information on exotic species.
Hi Lynn, Nope! Paula will be asking for some help at the table. We visit any and all exhibits and just mingle. Lunch is a fun time when we all get together. And then we round up Bob and head over to the dinner.
AND FROM ATLANTA...... Wednesday, October 1 All four pandas are doing just great. Yang Yang and Mei Lan still show no signs of interest in the newest little addition. I am sure that occasionally they are able to hear some of his vocalizations, but they have not shown any response. They continue on with their normal daily lives of eating bamboo, sleeping and the occasional play bout. Lun Lun continues to eat more bamboo each day and has even started to eat bamboo without receiving a reminder from her keepers that she has more than just leafeater biscuits and fruit as a dietary option. The cub continues with his daily routine of nursing and sleeping -- things that all babies do best! His weight at yesterday afternoon's checkup was 1088 grams. Kate Roca Carnivore Keeper II
MITS: if I had to eat bamboo and more bamboo I bet i would have inflammation of my esophagus! lol As the article said TAI IS PERFECT FROM HIS HEAD DOWN TO HIS TAIL/TOES
Some pictures of Star & Spirit are up on the Kent Gallery - Deb had the link. The cams are still not hooked to the server so we can't see them but they are still there.
Good updates on the panda, Mits! Okay, Jo...can I ride on your cart w/ you?? I know, YOU are the driver! LOL! How was your day, Margie? Didn't get to lsiten to much! Please be careful on your little evening excursions....I worry about you.
Negative, Hedgie, and I am getting thoroughly disgusted, so I am quitting the search for tonight... have come across a number of intersting things though....
Good Warm Evening to all... Time to get cleaned up...
Happy here!! The young opera singer, Neal E. Boyd, WON AGT!!!! Second year in a row that my fav has won. Now Chrissy's countryman Paul Potts has a new contemporary!
Hi All!!! Got home Sunday but have not been on the computer. Jack has had teleconferences both days, so I have let him have our study and puter.. Have spent two glorious days outside. Apparently not having as cool weather as you, but it is beautiful and oh so pleasant out.
Deb, so glad you are going on the train ride. We are really looking forward to it.
Now, I am getting a little concerned about Bob, or should I be concerned about finding the Rumrunner Inn. LOL Hey! We do not even know how to find NCTC!! We are in big trouble!
LYNN, I, too, am a happy camper...I thought Neal would win the first time I heard him. Absolutely beautiful voice! When he sang MAMA..it gave me goosebumps.
We will have to work something out for you, Lolly, to guide you to NCTC. I live only 3 or 4 miles from there and probably 8 miles from Falling Waters campground.
Whoops! I was typing a letter to Chrissy! Forgot about the blog. Sorry! Yeah, I am the navigator and we get around pretty well!
We did not get reservations. We plan to stay at Falling Waters RV park, but when we called they said they do not take reservations. We plan to call them again a week before we leave.
Ok, I'll pack my long-johns!! LOL I am getting excited!
Tell me....what do we do about lunch at Open House?
Ok I am being a smartie. The cafe seating area will take your breath away if you like the woodsy look. The food will be anything you could possibly want. The prices are usually reduced for the event and they are low to begin with.
Okay! Just tell me what, when, and where! We plan to arrive Thursday to rest and get a feel of where we are on Friday. We figure three days of driving to get there.
give me a few days, and I will see what we can do at the Comfort Inn Friday night, I was thinking if they had a room we could all get together and we could have pizzas or subs brought in.....I'm going to be up that way in a few days
She is doing OK, Lolly...trying to get used to her new surroundings...they have started some PT...and she likes the food...going down to see her tomorrow.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MOLLY!!
I have some information on our osprey finally!
Wayne--The last to leave Yankton has made it to the Platte River in Columbus, NE. Not far at all yet.
Avista: The first to leave is in Phoenix City, GA.
Deb: Second to leave, Grand Isle, LA (yes, this is my bird)

No updates until after the 10th of October, Wayne seems to think he needs a vacation.
Silly man, doesn't he know we want to know where our birds are!!
Ok Megan - Bob can follow one of us but I suggest 2 other cars right behind him - just to be sure there
are no wrong turns or as you said about missing the right turn up to the Clarion......
I just remember that when I pass the Grave Yard to get ready for that 2nd
right hand turn!
TO THE #2 M OF THE FAMOUS M&M GIRLS,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR MOLLY!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!
AND MANY, MANY, MANY, MANY MORE!
thanks for the update, Deb......Jo, maybe we can get him a police escort:)
Deb - I bet the reports you get are welcomed news. I hope they all make it and perhaps next year a few would return.
I signed up for the train today. I can't come to WV and not meet Norma! I am looking forward to the beautiful scenery and eagle spotting!

Deb - I can tell that this past year's experience for you has brought you a great amount of satisfaction. You have been so very fortunate and possibly this will make a difference as to what lies ahead in your future. I am happy you found us.
You're not even close!
Mits says we are getting you a police escort! We are going to have fun at this dinner cause you are going to be there for sure - one way or another. lol
I'm sure one of us can grab Bob and toss him in someone's car :):)
Now you are all worrying me, Will I miss the turn, too??
Some of us will be at the Comfort Inn so you can come there and then we will go to the Clarion.
Sounds good, I think Margie and I may drive over together, also, save gas and visit on the way. We are waiting on her work schedule.
Deb & Bob...we will make sure you get to dinner!!
no deb, you will not, but if you are with Bob....hmmmm, might be anoter story.....we love you Bob.
... Raymond's, Randy's...
I hope you get in the Eagle Express, Deb. I think Margy's work schedule is coming around that she will be free Saturday. Deb as long as you don't forget the name of 'Clarion' or 'Rumsey' you won't get lost.

Last week was an eventful one for Tai Shan.
UPDATE ON TAI'S CHECKUP
Hi Lynn, Nope! Paula will be asking for some help at the table.
We visit any and all exhibits and just mingle. Lunch is a fun time when we all get together.
And then we round up Bob and head over to the dinner.
NO, HEDGIE ! You are never alone!
I am digging through piles of things looking for one little article! I guess I keep too many things....
Glad you had a good day!
xoxo
Rounding up Bob.....are we going to take shifts, watching him????
AND FROM ATLANTA......
Wednesday, October 1
All four pandas are doing just great.

Hi Lolly. Where did you get your camping reservation for??
Lolly Can you get to Harpers Ferry?
We can send you the best local directions like to the NCTC, Clarion and up the road to Romney.
I know you are experienced travelers!
You're the navigator aren't you???
Most important is that we get some
telephone (cell's) to you upon your arrival. Deb too.
Lolly Megan & Lynn are turning on the heat this evening!
BRING YOUR INSULATED UNDERWEAR GAL!
Magpie thank you but that cute waving little is a terror, and to think he was smaller then a beenie when we found him.

Having a bad time w/ blogger cop or internet...giving up for tonight. Peace, prayers and blessings for all. See you fowl folk tomorrow!
LOL
I am getting excited!
Tell me....what do we do about lunch at Open House?
Robyn Watch out for the Indian Summer in Mid October.. I love the cool weather but I closed the whole house up for this evening..
COLD OUT THERE
I'm not sure where the little stray cat goes at night.. I can't track him/her.
It could be very warm or very cold Oct. 18...some years, at that time of October, we have the heat on in the shop and other years, have the A/C on.
LOLLY, you can bring Pizza for all of us! LOL
Lunch at Open House - You Just Eat!
Ok I am being a smartie.
The cafe seating area will take your breath away if you like the woodsy look. The food will be anything you could possibly want. The prices are
usually reduced for the event and they are low to begin with.
And, what time is dinner?
Oh, yes! You guys are getting cute this evening. I do make a good pizza, but sorry, no deal!!!!
We go over around 5:00. Only 10 minutes away from NCTC - don't tell Bob how close it is... We want to surprise him......
Lollie - we plan to get you up to S'town Friday evening. Others will
be arriving.....
But Lollie you do remember your prize winning dessert - right?
We'll have a special place on the dessert table for TX.
Okay! Just tell me what, when, and where! We plan to arrive Thursday to rest and get a feel of where we are on Friday. We figure three days of driving to get there.
Now I could bring that million doller cheese cake.....but are you sure the Rumrunner Inn will let me bring it in? :)
Lolly I live near Falling Waters Campground, you cn meet up with me and follow me to NCTC
No problem, Lolly!
Thanks Robyn! I really do think we can find it, but will holler if we need you.
give me a few days, and I will see what we can do at the Comfort Inn Friday night, I was thinking if they had a room we could all get together and we could have pizzas or subs brought in.....I'm going to be up that way in a few days
Paula, how is your Mom doing?
Capt. Gene said that he would watch the shop if I wanted to join in on the Friday activities. I don't want to miss anything!
Is that the comfort inn, in martinsburg?
Comfort Inn, Sheperdstown WVA
