news on the Norolk eaglet-UPDATE: May 31 2008, 6pm by Dr. Mark Ruder at the Wildlife Center of Virginia The Bald Eaglet was originally eating well off of a chopped plate and took bits of mice from the forceps. On Thursday and Friday, however, the bird began to occasionally refuse to eat. Today, the bird refused to eat anything off of a chopped plate OR from the forceps and was force-fed at each meal. These force-feedings are not going to help in our attempt to minimize stress for the eaglet. The bird also dropped a small amount of weight, from 2.26 kg to 2.15 kg. Our goal is to increase the bird's body mass to help it withstand anesthesia.
No big change in the lesion, although it is difficult to objectively evaluate its growth. If anything, it is slightly larger than yesterday, especially on the underside of the beak (within the oral cavity). Today was the first full day of interferon therapy, which we hope will stop the growth of the lesion.
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE... Megan, thanks for the report on BUDDY. It doesn't sound very hopeful. At this point, one would think they would go on and take a chance on surgery. If he is losing weight, it is not likely he will ever be big enough to withstand the anesthesia. Without the surgery, he will surely die. TAKE THAT CHANCE.
Hi Dave, Vicky, Wanda and Sharon:) hoping for the live feed also. Don't want to miss the first fledge. I sent Steve an email letting him know we had sound but no pic. Gotta go cut flowers... wow, I am sooo tired, this schedule is rough. Later, have a great day, should be a nice one here.
Good Morning. Yes still 3 eaglets. I have sent an email to Steve just in case he isn't aware of the cam status for us.
Buddy well he is no longer vigorous and healthy and i am very sad. We may not have hurt him too much yet by taking him and hoping for treatment but it sure isn't sounding like anything thats been done so far has helped. I agree with Wanda he could have withstood at least initial surgery much better earlier on in this treatment. He is isolated and suffering. I say take a chance now or put him down. He will either rally from the anesthesia now or not at all but he won't linger like this. Too sad. I am sure we can learn how to help others BUT there are lots of other birds to learn with if that is part of the goal. Make a more active decision for Buddy today!!!!!
GOOD MORNING EAGLE BUDDIES!!!---CONGRATS! WANDA---In our Sun. paper---there was an article about how we over use the word--AWESOME--So I thought I shouldn't continue to use the "A" word-----ho!
GOOD MONDAY A.M. EVERYONE Megan thanks for the update on Buddy....glad they have not cut him open yet, hope they don't, and just put him down as fast as possible, especially now that he has stopped eating....there is probably more to be learned from a necropsy, then putting him through the stress of surgery, but that is JMHO and I am glad they are taking such good care of him and doing the best they can under the experts supervision and God watching over them
I'm so thankful for the wedding couple, actually the storm during the Mass was pretty funny, just as the ring part was starting a huge clap of thunder shoke the church and the lights flickered...kinda of made you wonder what God was saying:)
Waiting for the men to pick up my car for another day---This car stuff drives me NUTS-O!!----Never get it returned on time---they don't pick it up on time!!----SORRY---We are not supposed to 'sweat the small stuff'!!!
Well cool live feed is back, although the pic keeps going haywire, now you inside people keep an eye on the nest for the rest of us. Beautiful day out there, sun is shining. What I thought was a thrush nest is actually a brown thrasher nest, we are learning to tolerate each other, they have built in a very busy place in the garden. Also saw the possum again yesterday morning, my neighbor says it is a female with babies clinging to its back. I read sometines they are out in the early morning hours when it is warm to hunt for food. Back outside, gotta water gh before it gets too hot in there.
I have been blocked from getting in her by GOOGLE for over an hour. I just wanted to give the forecast for saturday in Shepherdstown. It is going to be partly sunny and mid 80's. 30% chance of showers. We will have the Eagle Express to be sheltered from the heat or rain if necessary. NO PROBLEM!
Whoo Hoo! I finally got in to say Good Morning Everyone. We have been emailing back & forth so I best put out a message so that everyone comes back in here!
Last I saw it was at the launch pad with wings spread...then LF was freezing,...tried to go back and look and daggone thing decided to reset w/o my permission!!

I finally got in and see that lots of people are having trouble. Live feed is up, but static and picture is goofy. Rain again today here.
Happy Birthday to Charlie! Hope you have a great day and can get on the blog!
Yea, I keep wondering during one of those "static-outs" how many eaglet will be on the nest when the pic comes back.
No trashcan Mits? I have one for ya :)
I have been blocked from getting in her by GOOGLE for over an hour. I just wanted to give the forecast for saturday in Shepherdstown.

I wonder what is in the Delta nest with the two chicks??

Would someone go give that cam or something a whack! Geesh!
WHOA JO!!---You didn't need to stay so long!
I wasn't at the Corn Palace, Norma, I was waving from the campus of the University of SD! I don't think any TV stations were there though.
I don't think I have ever seen one of them sitting that far out!
I think the eaglets are gone from the OK nest this morning, I haven't seen anything moving.
Good Morning Dave #1 Dad today, Vicky, Megan, Wanda, Glo, Norma, Mits, Sharon, Jim, Paula and Deb.

LOL...poor parent is gonna get hurt one of these times...
I hope he does well, Norma, it will be a long surgery.
The cam picture is so clear and then it goes bonkers.
I normally spaz out, so I'm ok:)
They haven't been flapping their wings much this morning!!---Or at least during the time I have been able to see them----
THAT CALLED FRUSTRATION!!---POOR STEVE & JOHN!!!---We are just in a fussy mood this am!!----Just pay us "NO MIND"!!!
Norma, if we don't fuss, they don't know what is going on, usually their closed-circuit TV is working perfectly, while the cam we watch does not.
They are LOOKING GOOD now!!

Looks like silly string on the trees at the Delta Cam.

Yes, I see others have been having blogger issues too!
A Teddy bear, gotta check that again.
Mits, Delta nest is at Hancock website
http://www.eagletmomsters.com/links.html
Turned Delta off earlier, thought it was messing with my RP...hmmm it may be, RP reloading again...
think I will shut the blog down for awhile, already shut the cam off
yes, Paula, have the site, was wondering where geographically it was?
Can't get Delta up now and my RP is down, down, down.
Time for lunch...
Are we having fun yet? goodness. Ran errrands and thought it would be better when I got back. I don't even know if blogger is going to post.
White storks nice and frisky right now.

WOW---I can't believe I am back on the blog!!----I was stuck on the EAGLET PAGE!!---Really thought the middle one was going for sure---But he settle back in the nest!! ---really flapping wings!
the thing in Delta reminds me of a penguin or Shamu the whale
Delta, British Columbia.
If you go to the site, and click on the info on the right of the cam, there is more info there.
JO---It was the GOOGLE STUFF again!!!
thanks, Paula....
WONDER if CHRISSY is still sick?---Haven't seen her on for a week or so----HELEN'S PANDA reminded me!!
John is trying to fix the live feed...
GOOGLE COP got me again. Can't get Live Feed either. Might as well mow grass.
thanks, Steve, we know you are trying to get us back on-line:)
Hey, Ladies, prayers for John to fix cam. If he doesn't, he may need heavenly help! LOL We know that you do your very best, Steve and John.
THANKS STEVE & JOHN!----KNEW YOU FOLKS WERE WORKING HARD TO GET THINGS GOING!!----
NO RP SOUND OR PIC! HELP, HELP, HELP!
I made it back on again. I keep getting kicked off, so I go do stuff and try again. What a pain!
One of the female falcons at SJ has fledged.
Good afternoon everyone. I have just gotten on. Had to laugh. So many messages repeated. It we don't we will go crazy. This will probably post many times.
OMG, Google got fixed finally.
BEAUTIFUL sunbeams thru trees on Black Stork nest-Kurepesa.
Hey, live feed is back on...
No sound
Thanks for the info Steve...live feed still a little crazy...2 eaglets standing at this end, the other laying down at the back
yippee!!!
Eaglet @ BWE w/ fish
Hancock forum thinks it's a teddy bear too...I still can"t get on...
I'm still going to call it Shamu....adult eagle cracks me up when it looks at it.....did I read where someone thought it was a bear cub.?
Yes, Deb, kinda looks like a penguin or a whale..not sure if the white is stuffing or coloring...
yoo-hoo, Paula, that was me that thought it looked like a penguin or SHAMU:):)
So nice to see the juvie at BWE
I think you are right about it being a whale. I thought it was a teddy bear earlier, but it was in a different position than now.
Sorry Mits... :):) Will ya ever forgive me?? :):)
BWE eaglet looks really pretty, nice sleek feathers
Live feed still having glitches...but not quite as bad as it was this morning...
ABSOFREAKINLUTEY, PAULA:):)
Lots of hopping and flapping by one eaglet...
the little black thing sticking out from the body reminds me of a fin....man that site is noisy
I am so happy to see the BWE juvies so healthy....I was really concerned for them for a long time..
Did you see parent drop right in at Delta, followed by that pesky black bird? It landed briefly on the nest
Mom moving the stuffy now.
Those look like the fish crows that were at the BC nest
nice that our eagles have a little shade canopy above them...
Thanks, Mits!
Parent in Delta, along with the pesky birds. This one better be careful. They had bird earlier today for breakfast!
Anne hasn't seen the skunk again. She has closed off the doggy door so it can't get into the garage again. Hope it stays that way!
I must be behind on my Delta cam, will have to move it forward.
Well, in my opinion, the sound is what causes most of our problems with RP. What do you all think?
motorcycle went by at DELTA, and adult took off....
well, could be, but it was a shaky a little while ago, with no sound
There wasn't near this much shade at the sycamore tree 2 years ago. Remember, Belle would stand with her wings spread out to shade them!
I know....but I hope adult is close by, just in case, they need shade
That Delta Mom is as bad as an osprey!
Okay, Mits, I get your point. RP going nuts now!
yeah, she just takes off and leaves them!
my real player is going crazy right now
now it is fine
still is not as bad as when sound was on, but still think it has a bad glitch somewhere...
Pics from PH rescue
CHIL forum
LOL Mits, I meant collecting stuff like an Osprey!
ops////sorry....my train of thought must have crashed somewhere....
maybe I should eat something:)
wing flaps:)
Eaglet babes looking hot...wings spread.
I got half of the backyard mowed and had to take a break. The humidity is awful today. Too much rain!
I thought for sure that eaglet was going that time. I assume it was Pearl.
Latest Buddy Update
we have seen a slight reduction of the growth on the eagle’s beak. The little bird is now able to breathe out of both nostrils. That is a small victory, but suggests that the drugs are working. We have now also reached all three of the eagle experts we needed to reach about the case. Surgery is definitely in the plan now, and we have two surgeons identified who can perform the procedure. We are in touch with both to see who is willing and at what cost.
We are still dealing with a really sick little bird, but this is the first day when we have not had to report a worsening of his condition. That is no small accomplishment. We believe the Interferon may be starting to work.
Yeah for Buddy, thanks for the update, Glo!
Gosh they are making me nervous!!
All huddled together flapping
Now I think it's a stuffed puppy dog in the delta nest...with it's butt and tail sticking up in the air like the Pokey little puppy
Glo, Thank you so much!! I have been all over the VA sites today & couldn't find anything posted after the 31st.That's when they started full Interferon dosage. Did Dr. Ruder write this?
At least one tiny talon step forward!
Gonna light another candle!
My sympathies to people, too, who are ailing & Sen. Kennedy.
When I first saw it this morning, I was worried that it was a real puppy or kitty. It definitely looks like a puppy now. I am glad it is stuffed!!
