Good morning all! Just getting on for a sec to say hi. Time to get ready for church.
Laurel and the boys are coming this afternoon. In the morning we are all heading for the Houston area. Jack has some "consulting" work to do, I am going to visit with my sister, and Laurel is visiting a college friend. And the work pays for our gas on this trip!! Will be gone until late Thursday!
On the banding trip, Wendy was the lady w/ the 2 kids...and that is Celeste in the pink shirt. She came w/ her husband, Frank.
Greg said the nest failure rate for ospreys at Jug Bay this year was 50% - quite high. Normally the failure rate is around 15%. They have had problems down there with a great horned owl attacking some of the osprey nests. That is likely the reason for some of the nest failures.
SORRY---I have been on a telethon this am!!----ho!---Talked with daughter & little ones!!---Only 2 more to go!!---they all check in on weekend----cool!!
Yeah, Dana, I don't know how to enlarge the Quicktime player ... it used to be smaller if that's any consolation.
Maybe a Mac user would know....
Or you try transferring it to Real Player. My newest Real Player always exhibits a banner which offers to transfer whatever I'm watching, but I haven't tried it yet.
It looks like an interesting nest (w/sound too), and I just saw Dad deliver a small fish.

Jo, yes, my sister has a computer but do not know how much time I would have to get on. You know, we have a LOT of talking to do!! LOL (her name is Sharon, BYW)
Loretta, just saw the rest of your pictures. Fantastic!! What a day!
Hi Gang I didn't smell anything fishy w/the ospreys yesterday! The dead bird in boat was stinky. After we took pics of Greg holding it up, he threw it in the river, thank God. I wasn't sitting up front! Got on the CT osprey cam--that is wild!! 4 chicks! Gotta check TX wood ducks. Lolly, glad you liked pics. Have a great visit. We'll miss you.
Good afternoon dear ones, So glad to be back home after a week at 4-H CAmp with 250 little rug rats. Sure am glad I was only responsible for 50 of the little angels. Need sleep badly, but had to read up on what has happened in the nest and in the lives of my eagle family. God Bless You all and I will be able to catch up this week. donna
Why, I wonder, does San Diego zoo remove the flamingo eggs? Did they say why. Fort Worth zoo has a wonderful flamingo exhibit and many flamingos. Never have seen nests, but I usually do not go this time of year.
Lolly, came in on tail-end of report and didn't hear why! Norma saw it...maybe she heard. Somehow I missed some of Paula and Jo's game posts! Too busy computing, and flipping between ball game and race! Sorry!
Hi---Hubby (jubby) just came in and saw baby birds. They were in the grass, too small to be fledglings. I hate it when that happens!! They were very LOUD--hope parents come soon. Put their pics and video on Blogspot.
Thank you Paula,....spicules! I was trying to remember. The nest is pretty high and I don't know if they'd stay in---very windy. That may be why they're out.Chirping away in their bush (can't see them which is good-way in there) & have not seen a parent. Hope I don't have to call/take them to wildlife rehab. BTW, I never smelled anything fishy w/ospreys, but I have allergies.
Good Evening everyone, hubby went home around 3, and I have been doing some odds and ends around the condo, including some panda napping. Heard from Ceil at 4:30p.m. east coast time, they had stopped in Boise, Idaho, she said her throat felt better, but she says she has a terrible cough now, and I gently reminded her that the damn infection was probably in her lungs now...tried not to yell at her. she saw 2 juvies sitting in a tree, said did not look like they had a fledged yet, and saw 1 juvie flying, not sure where she saw them. It is hot in Boise, 102
Good evening everyone!! Been a busy, busy weekend. Our nephew married his girlfriend of 10 years Friday night (finally!!), had a family reunion yesterday, and a big picnic today!
Been trying to glance over the blog to see what I missed this weekend. I did see the pics from the banding, what a great opportunity.
Norma, I am so glad you survived the storm. We kind of skirted around them all weekend, lucked out for sure. My baby sister is home and I am so grateful.
Anyway, hey everyone!! Be talking to ya this week!
Well, we're in it now! When outside about 7PM, heard the baby robins chirping. One had come back out in the grass from under the neighbor's bush. As I walked along our fence next to bush, a grey cat came flying out and ran in next door backyard! That is where I heard the other chirping!Peppy had gone under another shrub way back there! We never saw parent in 3-4 hours. They got rescued again and put in large plastic recycling bin. Hubby couldn't find any worms, so he sliced tiny chunks of hot dog which they ate.(Not ideal, but something-all pet stores closed where I could have gotten mealworms)I dug up 2 worms and Peppy ate a couple tiny pieces, but other wouldn't open mouth. I'm saving the worms in fridge for AM.Wrapped towel around inside of bin for a makeshift nest & they are on back of p/up bed cover in carport.Hope bad cat won't find them. Now I have to eat dinner!!!!
Welcome back, Sissy. We've missed you all! Big to-do's, huh? Hope you had a great time! Well, Loretta....wonder what you'll find in the morning?! Peaceful "wave" dreams, Helen!
I took my sister to see the heron and pelicans today. We saw more of both and also saw some great egrets, a red headed woodpecker and a bobolink. Things we saw but didn't get pictures of were 2 red-tailed hawks, quite a few turkeys and about a hundred turkey vultures, along with all the ordinary every day birds and a bunch of deer. I have never seen so many turkey vultures at once. I will have to go back and see if they are there all the time.
Really got sidetracked...finished the lawn, took a shower, went to grocery store...got home and spent time catching up on the phone, etc. Turn around and it's almost 10:30!!
DEB - Sounds like a GREAT field trip with your sister. I really like the coloring on the red-headed woodpecker, and was surprised to see a family in this area two years in a row..have checked the nesting spot this year with no success.. The bold strong color patches, not unlike Towhee and Scarlet Tanager...a friend tells me that other woodpeckers, like the red-bellieds, tend to bully them out of their nesting spots, so maybe, that is what happened this year. Did you get a picture? I missed all the nest action at NCTC once again, except for some very early morning glimpses, which were nice. I think those Woodies are about ready to pop out soon..
DEB: Prize-winning Video of Lib and Belle..you can see a little flit of another bird, probably the eaglet, circling around before landing. The Pelican and Heron picture, and the lone heron picture, fantastic!
HEDGIE - I like your new moniker! You probably saw my posting the other day about one of Kathy's favorite stuffies: Hedgehog named Hedgie! Sweet connection...
To borrow an expression earlier from Sissy: I'm "wore slam out" from the week-end activity at 911.....ENOUGH! Besides the storms, people have to fight and be difficult...
Sounds like everyone had some fun today. COSTUME LADY: Hope you get back to your normal routine soon!
LOLLY - Have a good trip. I have a brother who lived in Houston for years, now is in Connecticut. He likes the weather much better in New England!
I did get a couple good pictures of the woodpecker and the bobolink. The heron and egret were so far away, I am going to try again to get closer. I hadn't ever seen a bobolink before, so had to look it up.
DEB - THAT IS SPECTACULAR! the Red-Head! I spend a LOT of time looking at all your pictures! Friend of mine in New York says bobolinks sometimes make nests in farm fields and then sometimes get overtaken by the farm machinery when farmers are harvesting or cutting hay...I've never seen one "for real".
I guess this is Good Night, it is time for me to sack out.
Thanks everyone for all the education today on the BLOG.

By the way, Vicky, a second test showed me to be a true Hammerhead Shark!

With all these coming and goings, too bad we don't have live feed.
down to 1 in our nest
I see where Margy said a bear was sighted in Marlowe. There was one sighted in the area a year or two ago also.
I'll just be watching doggie alittle more carefully while he is outside.
God made bears too.....like deer...areas get built in..sometimes bears come down from mt. for food or water.
Anybody know what time it is in Finland?? It looks darker than I think it should be now.

Check out Loretta's, too, Norma. She has quite a few up, already.
The only reason I know it is there, Jim, is we talked about it another day. I don't remember who it was that pointed out the time is on the page.
Wow at Natures comment about the boy seeing a bird in the water. The Mom Osprey....so sad :(
Sounds good though that the chicks should be ok...( :

The Delaware Osprey nest...Can anyone make it larger if so how?
I just had a look at NatureNut's great pics.
Where do I find Loretta's, Deb? What's her blog name?
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
Boy, I hope they reported the dead female Osprey to the local Conservation group.
The rest of the birds might be at danger from whatever killed the mother.
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
Loretta is Nature Nut!
I didn't see it delivered, but it looks like Finny is feeding her chicks something now ... it's almost dark already.
Guess I don't understand the changing light conditions in the far north too well. Not long ago it seemed to be light most of the night there.
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
Good morning again...the anks, Vicky for headsup and Steve for new thread and pics of the 3 juvies
I think it might just be cloudy there, Jim. Finland over the water is brighter.

DANA I've never been able to enlarge the DE osprey cam pic. Let us know if you find a way to do it. Sure has a good clear pic.

Did you know at Finney's nest if you click on the picture it takes you to the picture gallery?
You can make the Delaware osprey site larger by opening up the page in your Quicktime player.
Open Quicktime...go to file, open url, and put in the websites address.
http://webcast.delaware.gov:8080/
Cape/Cape-Osprey
Then go to movie and click on double size

Lolly, glad you liked pics. Have a great visit. We'll miss you.
Oh Hedgie I think it sounds "famous" now ( : I like it ....goes well with pic ( :
Lynn, What a Great Name!
Have Paula to thank! She was the one who coined the term, and sent me the pic! Hedgie not as big a mouthful...or as many keys to hit!
Good afternoon dear ones, So glad to be back home after a week at 4-H CAmp with 250 little rug rats. Sure am glad I was only responsible for 50 of the little angels. Need sleep badly, but had to read up on what has happened in the nest and in the lives of my eagle family. God Bless You all and I will be able to catch up this week. donna
Baby flamingo knows how to get cooled off. He's fascinated by the water pipe!
Eaglet our nest!!
Think it has a fish
Howdy Mauley - sounds like you need a vacation!!
do or die for the nats....O's up 2-1 in the 12th
Love the new handle Hedgie!
Looks like Tiny in the nest!
No fish...guess that's bones or something else white in the middle of the nest.
Nature - you didn't think they smelled fishy?
Tiny at noon in the nest...must be ready for supper
Aww Man that sucks! Homerun by Nats with one on...they just won...guy should have been struck out on previous pitch!
Eaglet still in our nest....and check out the piece of bark on horsie...gotta go out and finish mowing....
Hey Jo- no Tom or Sandra today, mkt. was very quiet.
Wood duck eggsa are uncovered! Funny how she covers one time, next time not! Guess they will hatch while I am gone. Will try to check it out!
Yes, sisters are great! Have a brother as well, he too is in Texas, 500 miles away! He on the other hand....is something else. LOL
Why, I wonder, does San Diego zoo remove the flamingo eggs? Did they say why. Fort Worth zoo has a wonderful flamingo exhibit and many flamingos. Never have seen nests, but I usually do not go this time of year.
Paula...do or die...DONE!!!!! 3-2, Nats!
Always something!!!!!
Awww, Tiny laying in the nest...facing noon
Gotta get some water!!
Nature - those are spicules the osprey have on the bottom of their feet in able to hold onto the fish better.
Nature - is the nest out of reach to be able to put the baby robins back?
Tiny is really flaked out in the nest...foot sticking out :)
Loretta...poor babies! Like Paula, I think you should try to put them back in nest if it's within reach...use gloves!
Mauley-welcome home! Bet you are exhausted! Get settled and rested and then check out old blogs and and photos!
Tiny is gone
Good Evening everyone, hubby went home around 3, and I have been doing some odds and ends around the condo, including some panda napping. Heard from Ceil at 4:30p.m. east coast time, they had stopped in Boise, Idaho, she said her throat felt better, but she says she has a terrible cough now, and I gently reminded her that the damn infection was probably in her lungs now...tried not to yell at her.
she saw 2 juvies sitting in a tree, said did not look like they had a fledged yet, and saw 1 juvie flying, not sure where she saw them. It is hot in Boise, 102
off to fix some dinner....bbl
Here is a link for osprey album made by one of the ladies, Celeste, on the trip yesterday.

A beautiful visitor in OUR NEST
and poof................
Well, at least I got to see our visitor for a few minutes.
POOF
Loretta, I love your pics and the sounds.....what a wonderful day yesterday
Celeste's osprey album
Good evening everyone!! Been a busy, busy weekend. Our nephew married his girlfriend of 10 years Friday night (finally!!), had a family reunion yesterday, and a big picnic today!
Been trying to glance over the blog to see what I missed this weekend. I did see the pics from the banding, what a great opportunity.
Norma, I am so glad you survived the storm. We kind of skirted around them all weekend, lucked out for sure. My baby sister is home and I am so grateful.
Anyway, hey everyone!! Be talking to ya this week!
Bed time now! Wore slam out!
Well, GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE
Welcome back, Sissy. We've missed you all! Big to-do's, huh? Hope you had a great time!
Well, Loretta....wonder what you'll find in the morning?!
Peaceful "wave" dreams, Helen!
The wood duck forum says the mom didn't leave the nest for a break tonight, the eggs should be hatching soon.
Eagle at Kent 1, at the top of the branch hiding. You can just see the back of the eagle.
Evening, all!
Really got sidetracked...finished the lawn, took a shower, went to grocery store...got home and spent time catching up on the phone, etc. Turn around and it's almost 10:30!!
Nature- hope your little robins will be OK!
Good to hear from you Sissy...sounds like a nice weekend!
Good Evening To All...
Just saw a Ferry Boat go tooling past at Over the Water Finland.
I will put them up tonight and go back for the egret.
Magpie...you should be in bed by now!!! What a weekend you've had!
Good night all!
Doesn't look like rain at the nest
but it is raining big time here in the valley. Severe storms are predicted.
So off to bed I go...........
Good Night Everyone
Peaceful sleep & pleasant dreams
Prayers being said for all our needs
DEB - THAT IS SPECTACULAR! the Red-Head! I spend a LOT of time looking at all your pictures!
Friend of mine in New York says bobolinks sometimes make nests in farm fields and then sometimes get overtaken by the farm machinery when farmers are harvesting or cutting hay...I've never seen one "for real".
I guess this is Good Night, it is time for me to sack out.
Thanks everyone for all the education today on the BLOG.

THE BLOG JUST ATE MY COMMENT!
Thanks for all the banding photos and for the info on your backyard animals and birds, everyone. Really wonderful. [:~D]
GOOD NIGHT, EVERYBODY...
Have a great week. Learn, learn. Enjoy, enjoy.

Good Monday Morning, Everyone.
Nest looks empty right now, kind of rainbowy, might have missed some early morning action, just getting on board.
Chicks at Finney's must be eating like horses...they are getting big.
Nice deer at PixController (in and out, saw nice 6-point buck in velvet there Sunday morning..)
Safe travels and stay-at-homes for all.
Work day for me....
