Thursday

We are all watching to see if a nesting season materializes in the nest this year.  In past years we have seen eggs in the next week, with a good deal of presence in the nest during the second half of January.

We suspect that the lack of time spent on the nest could indicate that our pair has another nest, a normal occurrence after using a single nest for this many years.  The cold weather could also be an impact, slowing things down a bit.

Time will tell, and I will keep you posted.

New thread.

Angie just called me she just leaving the dr she does not have the FLU yeah just a upper respiratory thingy Said she may want to go to RL with Jordyn and me

JudyEddy said...

YEAH YEAH IT WAS NOT DAD NORFOLK THAT GOT HIT YEAH BUT STILL SAD IT WAS ANOTHER EAGLE

JudyEddy said...

"The various body measurements taken indicate that the bird was likely a female. We did compare the left eye to known images of the Norfolk male (which has a distinctive spot on its iris) and verified that it was not that bird. Although there was significant staining of the head and tail feathers, plumage characteristics indicate that it was a fully-adult bird, with no obvious brown spotting on the head or tail. No other obvious contributing factors to the cause of death were noted."

We do not know if it was the Missus, however but this is at least some good news for today!!!

Good afternoon everyone.

Quiet day here. Got a few neglected chores taken care of.

JudyE, happy Jordyn is feeling better and hope Angie and Carl will soon. Thank you for the Norfolk eagle update.

The Snowy Owl is being well cared for - hoping for release to continue migration.

Shirley mentioned much activity yesterday at the nest. An intruder? Please let there be no drama this year.

Grilled cheese/tomato soup tonight before heading to the Kennedy Center - Peter and the Starcatcher. Got a good review.

Have a great remainder of the afternoon and a safe, warm evening.

Waiting for a visit. Can't wait to see who comes tonight! ;)

Today was the last day of Catholic Schools Week. It is a wonderful celebration of all we are, but I am sure glad the chaos is over!!!
I hope that next week we can have a normal week and the students can get some work accomplished.
I received a beautiful gift today. I don't know if I posted on here, or only on FB, but a couple of weeks ago we have a very devastating week at school.First we lost a young father of one of our 4th grade students who was also a Hagerstown City Policeman. He was a wonderful man who I knew personally since the time his son was born. He leaves behind a wife, son and younger daughter. That same week one of our retired teachers died suddenly of a heart attack. She was literally IN school the morning she died, picking up work to help her grandson. She was the kindest, most loving, understanding person I ever knew. She was a mentor to me when I was working on my Masters and I was an aide in her classroom for one year. She taught all 4 of my children, and I have her youngest grandson in my class. It was a very difficult blow for our entire school family. Today, for Teacher Appreciation Day, her daughter gave me one of her mother's pins. Jean (who died) wore a pin everyday on her outfit. I posted on FB that I will think of Jean whenever I wear it, and I hope that I am as kind and loving a person as she was.

I guess I should read back before I ramble anymore.

Quick visit

NatureNut said...

Good Afternoon, Eaglebuds. I didn't think there was a nesting problem, as most of our eggs have been laid in Feb. In 2009, I believe, the first came on 1-31.
Our nest at the Park in MD is not showing any incubating, yet, however a nest way across the Patuxent River shows the female sitting much of the day for a while now. I thought BWE was early on eggs this year compared to our area. Oh well, guess we'll just have to watch. Since Shep is a newbe, it must be Belle who would decide if nest is too old.

BTW, Nature/science friend in Utah has a daughter who just moved to NE, MD and was asking about eagle/birding spots. I immediately thought of Conowingo Dam & will send them some links I found. I wanted to know if Feb. is a good time to visit? I know Momsters (but not me) got to visit a couple years ago. Does anyone remember if that was at end of year? or Feb? I know I've seen pictures that were taken, but couldn't find any albums in Yahoo Momsters. Thx for any info.
(You can email if you wish.)

Mema Jo said...

Loretta - all the photos from that visit are dated 1/16/2010
I think that's right BUT none of us had on heavy outer wear and we ate at the picnic table - it was a road trip with Capt Gene and Wanda in the Eagle Express..

DANA so sorry for all the sadness in your school Life sucks at times

we went to RL I was to meet Angie there at 5 got there and ended up locking my keys in the truck then when we were in RL waiting for Angie I went to use my phone and found the back had falling off it and couldn't find there in the parking lot or the restaurant So after I got home I am going backwards in my head thing where I was when Angie called and then I remember I was in the parking lot at Playworld when she called phone was in pocket so I went up there and guess what it was laying in the puddle next to where I parked LUCKY ME I say

I saw those Two Eagles at the Royal Sycamore at Dusk tonight....I can barely get on the nest cam nor the blog at work...but I did delight in seeing them

And then, after work around 6:30 saw the most elegant, Baby-est of the Moon...thin, delicate little crescent....

and Jordyn Chicken fingers

I could have just kept duck tape on the phone but I had to give it a shot that it was there since I looked everywhere else So what I did I put a piece of tape on the end that way it can't come off again

Good late evening.

Thanks JudyE for posting Deb's video. Enjoyed watching the eagles.

Dana, very sorry the past week was such a sad one.

Margy, did you get an anti-flu shot?

Play was very good after intermission. Weird but the first half didn't really make much sense to me. Second half took shape and was absolutely hilarious.

Sandperson is running late and just slammed out the door with a satchel. Night light is on.

Restful sleep for all.

LOLLY, I've looked everywhere on FB and I can't find your portraits...where are they? I'd love to see them. Sounds like they're just beautiful.

Judie, glad you enjoyed Starcatcher and could sit through the first half. Haven't heard of that play before.

Jo, prayers for Christine and family. I hope they get the best home for the family.

I finished up Level 1 of nursing school yesterday. It's divided into 3 levels. Level 2 starts Monday, and the halfway mark is February 15!

Hoda, what wonderful charitable causes will you be helping this weekend?

JudyE, thanks so much for keeping us updated on eagle visits. I'm truly grateful for all you do.

So hoping for an eagle visit this morning.

Too much to do this weekend. I'll finally get some work done of those, now 6 reports. It's still too much, but certainly better than 8 reports.

Goodorming Lori, Judy and all my eagle friends. Opened the cam and saw the eagle before I did my reading back from last night.

Lori, good luck on the reports this weekend.

Judy, glad you found the back to your phone!

Talked with Brian yesterday - he was telling us some of the posts he is applying for for his next tour - Bangkok, Thailand is high on the list as is Mexico City, Mexico. He likes the idea of Amaan, Jordan but Lynnis doesn't. Kathmandu, Nepal is also on the list, as is Bogota, Columbia. We shall see where he, Lynnis, and Little Miss end up.

More about Little Miss's name ... Brian did not divulge Lynnis's choice but said, if she doesn't relent, he will NEVER call the baby by her real name and will encourage his daughter to change her name as soon as she can legally do so b/c it is so awful. I can't imagine what Lynnis must be thinking but also can't imagine her naming their child something that Brian despises.

Also talked with Mom - she had a good night Thursday night taking the Tramadol rather than the oxycodone and had taken no pain meds yesterday at all and had very little pain. She is feeling a little hungrier as well.

Our eagle is still in the nest, I see. Sure hope we start seeing more and more of them. Our first egg last year was laid on Superbowl Sunday - not gonna happen that early this year, as infrequent as their visits are so far.

And POOF, for our eagle and for me. Have a great day!

Glad to hear your Mom continues to improve.

Dana, how is your Mom doing?

JudyE & Margy, have a great day at work today.

Kay, do you get Seth time again this weekend?

LORI, Seth stayed on campus last night, but will come home today for French tutoring with Julie. Don't know if he'll want to come over tonight with just one night off campus. We'll see.... S'wonderful, s'marvelous that you've finished Level 1 ! You've mastered the art of switching gears and I predict Level 2 will go smoothly. Oh, Peter and the Starcatcher is based on Peter Pan - how he came to be Peter Pan, etc. The underlying theme is how we all have dreams and how we get there. Full of puns. Won 5 Tony awards on Broadway.

Sandi, maybe Lynnis is being influenced by the unfortunate name choices of celebrities for their children.

Shirley, sorry Kathryn has to work so much. I know she must truly appreciate your help.

JudyEddy said...

I wonder if the chirping means egg HMMMM makes you wonder was last year this time

NatureNut said...

JudyE, hope you and everyone else with URIs gets better ASAP. We sure can sympathize this year. My ears must be a little better if I could hear chirps! I go back to ear specialist on Mon., finally. He'll probably think I'm all better. DUH My endocrinologist I saw for checkup on TH recommended a decongestant for stuffed 400 lb. head! I was able to smell something yesterday! Enough of that~~~~
Daughter and SIL may visit in March. She has a business trip in Baltimore & he would like to dismantle our pool table to ship to TX. He may have been kidding, but said they could really use the stray kittens who are hanging around here for their rodent problem!

JudyEddy said...

chirping again

I just wonder if I should go get the nose swab at Walgreens just to be safe ???????

JudyE, hope you begin feeling better. Remember they won't give you anything for a virus, but maybe they will being as you sound like you have a junky cough. I've heard a lot of nursing students this year swearing by putting Vicks on your feet before bed and covering it up with socks. Guess they put it on their chest, too, but I'm not sure.

Loretta, I grew up with ear problems and my last one was vertigo from congested ears. Specialist ENT said to take Claritin "D"...because it has the decongestant in it. It worked beautifully - in 2 days it was gone.

Still working on reports tonight - and will be tomorrow, too.

Lori O. said...

Sandi, thanks for all your play by play. I can tell you had fun! Only names I can think of that would be so horrible for the Little Miss would be Bertha and Hortence (sp?). I know there are still a lot of older people named Bertha, but it never did sound pretty to me.

Thanks, Margy! I wasn't sure of the spelling of Hortense. It is certainly a name from the past. Although I do know a puppy named Mable. :)

Oh well, Spring IS Next Month!!

Long day, short night....

Hi Lori!
There was also a Mae, Daisy, and my mother's name was Florence!

Excuse my horrible writing skills tonight. I'm using everything I have on these darned reports. At least I'm doing the longest one first and should be finished with that relatively soon.

Mom made the best broccoli cheese soup and a new cornbread recipe tonight. Lolly, I thought of you when I read the cornbread recipe. It had bacon on the botton, cheese on the top and jalapenos mixed in the middle. Yummy!

Food! Yes, always love the food talk on here, we have some super cooks on HERE too!'

Time to start getting these rattly old bones to the bedstead.

Hi Margy!

Let's see...some of the older, not-so-common-now-names in my family would include my Grandmother, Ora, Grandpa Laird. I had an Aunt Ruby, have an Aunt Betsy and Uncle Huck! Oh, Aunt Hazel, there was a Wanda, Billie (her husband was Durwood). The Amish around here still use very traditional and simple names...Mary, Clara, Irene, Leroy, Melvin, John, Joseph,
etc.

magpie said...

Wow Lori...that is an impressive selection of names...would not mind seeing some of these surface once again!

And, horrible writing skills ??
Huh? Are you kidding? You are Spot On !!

Thanks for sharing your precious time with us xoxox

G'Night, now

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GLO!
JUDYE: if you aren’t feeling well, achey, fever, chills, a nose swab might not hurt to check for the flu. I hope you feel better quickly! Pretty ugly of walmart not to let you go home.

Its been a busy day. Groceries, Sylvan…Petsmart. Made a trip to the goodwill as today is their ½ price day. We scored a wrought iron table and 3 chairs for $30! I was wanting one for outside and there it was. It needs paint, but I can paint!
Sounds like our eagles have been busy … hoping they will be laying eggs soon!
It was lovely today. 62. Breezy, so still kind of cool, but I could get outside and do some yard stuff. Yeah! We have rain moving in tomorrow supposed to change over to snow. We shall see.
Everyone have a lovely evening! Light, love, hugs and smiles to all!

JUDYE, glad you broke the fever. Maybe you won't need the Vicks tonight, after all.

Want to say good night to everyone. Feeling pretty sleepy.

Didn't get to bowl. I reminded myself that I really had to get my car serviced first--a headlight issue and an oil change. By the time I got to the bowling alley all of the lanes were taken.

Did errands and went out to dinner with Kathryn and a couple of her friends.

I see we had a nice long nest visit today. Yay!

Going to get between the sheets now. SED, everyone.

I missed the eagle action again today

oh my...is there a Tallulah Bitsy Roberts in the making...?? Well, nothing could be as bad a MOON UNIT!! My name at work is WeatherLynne Forsythia. True story.

Evening all.

Very encouraging nest activities reports! But this really is ramping up to be a potentially rotten weather week....GROAN

My Dad's family all had "normal" names. But they had these odd nicknames...Aunt Alice was "Murph", Her hubby Walter was "Sanny" and their son Walter Jr was "Wicky". My dad was "Yunk" and his other brother in law was "Pecky". They called my brother "Johnny Jackson".

Lynne2 said...

Beautiful day here...wish I had had more time to enjoy it. This whole AFib/warfarin/no NSAIDS is really kicking my a$$. It just takes me SO LONG to get anything done.

Meanwhile, I have bird feed on the deck...the birds are going crazy and Puddles and Joker love watching them so up close! ONe of the Carolina Wrens even climbed up the screen!

Good almost Super Bowl Sunday.

Interesting day. Purchased a new mattress/boxspring that is to be delivered tomorrow, yes, tomorrow. Large pot of chili finished. All just in time for the call from Darth's uncle saying they are headed to FL and plan to stop for a day or two.

JudyE, glad your fever broke and hope you continue to improve quickly.

Shirley, practice is good and is paying off for you. Better, you had a nice dinner with daughter and friends.

Jo, I see you might also be headed to FL. Well, come on in and join the party at my house.

Sandperson is on the way out the door with a bulging satchel. Something about hurrying to visit Nelson, B.C. I think sandperson is a bit sweet on Hoda.

Night light is on. Restful sleep for all.

Hoda said...

Oh no MISS JUDIE!
He has not been here for three nights now!!!
Not at all sweet on me I would not say!!!

Judie said...

Hoda, have you checked for snow shoe tracks outside your flat?

Hoda said...

Ha ha ha!
So we have a shy sweet on me snowman who does not bother to come in???
Just hangs out side gazing at the clear skies???
Maybe he goes to where I am going to house sit in Mid March? My friend spoke of sleeping soundly and gets to bed early for her!!!
Confused sandman

Judie said...

Just checked Sanperson's closet. Veeeerrrry intereeeesting! Peaked inside a spare satchel and found pictures of a flat, a dragon boat, a brownie, and lots of pictures of a very lovely lady. I do believe Sandperson is smitten.

Good morning! It's Superbowl Sunday which I didn't even realize until Kate told me yesterday. Amazing how disconnected I am now.

I have lots of work today. Still finishing up 10 pages of 4 assignments and need to put those papers together in my nursing portfolio which is due Tuesday. So frustrating because the papers aren't even graded!!!

Gotta run, was supposed to start working at 6 - I promised myself. I don't want to be up late tonight.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Lori O. said...

HODA, last I saw him he was headed west on I-70. Maybe he's running very late after stopping to get you some presents!

Hope you get some sleep. No caffeine and maybe you can go back to bed. ♥
