Carole Anne--loved your winter pictures. Do you have a lot of red-breasted nuthatches? I am always happy if one comes through per year!! I really like their yank, yank, yank. And your dogs are so cute.

CarolAnne said...

GRANNYBLT - We have a small flock of the nuthatches & chickadees, especially in the winter. Even if we aren't here to refill the feeder for a week or two, it never takes them long to find it once we refill it. Very friendly & enjoyable to watch. They seem to fill every crevice in the tree bark with a seed or two.

Sandi said...

Lynn, Though I'm not a Redskins fan (not a hater either), I'll certainly be pulling for them to beat Michael Vick today! I LOVE your reference to them as the SINKS this year! =)

Judie said...

Happy New Year to you and your family Steve and to all the NCTC staff and helpers. We are grateful for all you do for us.

stronghunter said...

Hi,

Thanks Steve for the new thread.

Judie said...

Happy New Year to all the bloggers. May each day bring peace and comfort.

Will be headed to the kitchen in a few minutes. Southern fare on the menu. Pork baby back ribs slow roasted with sauerkraut, black eyed peas with smoked ham hock, onion, tobasco for seasoning, old fashioned kale greens. Folk lore suggests these foods bring good luck in the new year. Regardless, a tasty blast from my past.

Hope everyone is having a lovely day.

stronghunter said...

Thanks for the call-over grannyblt.

hedgie said...

Enjoy your southern feast, Judie!!! You may have my share of the peas and kale!!!! Happy New Year, Southern Belle!

Sandi, Jo was the one who coined the SINKS term!!! But it surely has been appropriate!

stronghunter said...

Can fully understand those who don't like the violence in the movie or book. I found it a bit hard to watch myself, but it is also a story about accusations of libel and international money dealing. Interesting, but probably not to a young teenager.

Hoda said...

Happy New Year to you all and I am so very grateful for your friendship.

Thanks Steve for the New Thread and sorry it took three hours to post it

Hoda said...

Thanks for the eagle report...

I slept for over twelve hours...thirteen hours and twenty minutes actually!!! WOW!!!. Made up for no sleep night before last.

I am having a very good cup of tea and it seems with clear skies here, no wind.

I will go get ready for yoga and will check back in when I come back.

hedgie said...

Shirley, are you cooking Southern fare, too?
I am doing steak! A bit porked out lately, so beef appeals best!

hedgie said...

Vick sacked---hurray!!!!

hedgie said...

Orakpo threw him down hard!

Hoda said...

The sistine Chapel tour...one of the MOST beautiful places in the world and with no tourists either. The Vatican put this out and I got it in an email GREAT SIMPLY GREAT.
SISTINE CHAPEL Zoom in and zoom out and move the arrow to get the virtual tour...breath taking...

hedgie said...

Howdy, Hoda! So glad you didn't lose your balance when you tried to be a pretzel yesterday!!! Good on you for a great sleep!!!

stronghunter said...

Maybe some vegetable soup, Lynn. I had not made any big menu plans. We had steaks the other night.

hedgie said...

Another hard hit to Vick!

hedgie said...

Eagles up by 3. :(

JudyEddy said...

Good afternoon all!

Back from taking the dogs to Baker Park. I took my camera so I'll have to see if there's anything worth sharing.

I was hoping the Black Heron would be there climbing the trees like they do, but they've probably headed out by now.

Judie, I'll take Lynn's share of BE Peas and greens! Sounds so good!

hedgie said...

Oh, Hoda, that is beautiful! We were there when I was 2---of course, I don't remember! A very unique perspective. Thanks.

Veg soup sounds good, Shirley!

hedgie said...

And, of course, GROSSman gets picked off a deflection.......what a joke.

hedgie said...

Eagles score.....10-0.....

hedgie said...

It's a waste, isn't it, Lowreeda???!!! SO glad this season is over......wonder about Shanahan's future? AND GROSSman's.
WhooHOO....Vick sacked and lost the ball and we recovered.......too late to do anything, tho'...only 36 seconds left in half.

hedgie said...

Well....MAYBE....down to the 4 yd. line.....

Lynne2 said...

Happy New Year everyone!! I fell asleep BEFORE the ball dropped! Last time I remember was 11:35!! WOO HOO pass the Geritol!

stronghunter said...

Well now, Lynne, you youngster. I went out, then stayed up until 1:00.

Lynne2 said...

whoa Shirley, you party animal!

hedgie said...

OMG!!!! TOUCHDOWN!!!!!

Lynne2 said...

OMG I'm not watching....are the Skins now WINNING???

Mema Jo said...

Sounds like some of you 'oldies' didn't see that ball drop! I SAW IT!
I am thinking that Paula had a great eve especially for viewing the fireworks.

I had call all 5 children around 9:00 and said my Happy New Years and reminded them that the phone need NOT ring at midnight!

I sure can't get moving today - hubby has the tree decorations box and we just need to get the decorations setting around back in the box.Mu feet are going up for a bit! ♥

Lynne2 said...

Steve just called, he has caught a very large Smallmouth bass...thinks it is bigger than the one he got a citation for years ago! My stubby is SO excited...and it looks like Smallmouth Bass for dinner!

Mema Jo said...

Mason's Happy New Year

Lynne2 said...

I just peeked in on Phoebe's babies and saw both of the sticking their tongues in and out, and on did a poop shoot!

hedgie said...

No, Lynne...not winning. Score now 13-7.

hedgie said...

LOL, Jo---my phone rang just after 3AM! I had told Carolyn to call when they got home from their trip down to Mount Jackson.....regardless of time. She remembered!

hedgie said...

Why did Steve get a citation for the previous fish, Lynne? TOO big to be legal?

Lori O. said...

Got tired of watching the Redskins, for what?!!! I got online and have since been watching them finish up the Natural Balance Rose Parade Float, and Tyson the bulldog is practicing. He'll be surfing on this year's float! It's so cute!

Lori O. said...

Congrats to Steve for catching dinner, Lynne! Sounds like a big one.

stronghunter said...

Kathryn went to bed at about 11:30 or so. She said she was just about to fall to sleep when the fireworks started going off.

Lori O. said...

Grilling chicken now for work nibbles this week...then the steaks for dinner. Smells yummy out there. :)

hedgie said...

Hmmmm....MIGHT be getting ready to score.....

Lolly said...

Have finished my book. Could not put it down. Now I have a third book on my kindle, Think though I will try to lure Jack outside and take down the yard decorations. The tree will be the last thing and will do it sometime this week.

Lynn, so jealous of your piliateds! Very very cool!!

Love CarolAnne's pictures of the snow and the doggies!

stronghunter said...

Was watching the game when Kathryn came in with The Help, so we watched that for awhile.

But then Kathryn got a call from a friend who wanted Kathryn to accompany her on an errand. I am watching the game again.

hedgie said...

Settling for another FG....13-10.

stronghunter said...

Well, shucks. Eagle TD.

hedgie said...

20-10......:(

DanaMo said...

Well I have spent the afternoon napping. Geez...how lazy especially when Monte has been doing the laundry!

paula eagleholic said...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Picked Nick up from John and Ajay's...he had fun at his sleepover ☺

Went to Wally World to get some large plastic storage containers...going to organize, throw out and sort for yard sale all my Christmas decorations!

Was sooo pretty in Baltimore, but hit rain close to home...stopped for awhile but has started again.

BBL!!

hedgie said...

SINKS intercept. Can they capitalize on it? Not likely.

paula eagleholic said...

Lynn, you can get citations for fish that are over a certain size...it is an award!

paula eagleholic said...

Lori, speaking of herons, there was a blue heron flying right over my development the other morning...nice sight on my way to work!

hedgie said...

No go.....Eagle ball.

paula eagleholic said...

I stayed at the Marriot Renaiscance at the Inner Harbor last night...really great view of the harbor. Could see almost all the fireworks from the room...the biggest were partially hidden behind the trade center.

I also got a pic of some beams from the WTC that they have in front of the trade center at the harbor.

The one set of shops is almost all restaurants now...cheescake factory, five guys, irish pub, another bar, pizza, candy place. The other set of shops was really disappointing...it used to have some really neat stores in it, now it's mostly empty with just a couple of clothing stores.

Lots of cool boats in the harbor, the Chesapeake lightship, the Constellation (i think that's what it is), a coast card cutter, and a sub.

paula eagleholic said...

OK, gotta get Nick in and get to work, and catch the last couple of minutes of the game. BBL

hedgie said...

Another Eagle score....27-10....what a joke.

hedgie said...

LOL, Paula....I think of citation in a legal sense--as being something bad!! A good thing should be called an AWARD!

DanaMo said...

Just created a Smart Notebook game for the kids for tomorrow. I hope I didn't already have on at school made from last year! Oh well, it doesn't take long to create.

I think I'll have a beer with my lesson planning.

hedgie said...

Sounds like a great evening, Paula!
The Harbor has had it's struggles with tenants.....and guess you heard that the National Harbor at Alexandria/DC lost the Disney development.

Heard that several large companies pulled out of the Rose Parade, too, including Anheuser-Busch--the Clydesdales won't be there. :( With business down and the economy, they just can't justify the expense to stockholders.

ANOTHER Eagle score. GAG!

Saw a post on FB from ABC that Powerball tickets are doubling in price. Larger jackpots, but don't think I'll play much at $2 a pop and I bet a lot of people won't. And that will surely hurt the vendors, too.

hedgie said...

Still waiting for Carolyn and Charlie to get here to move wood. ....

hedgie said...

Thank goodness the season is OVER! Better luck next year. Bleah-h-h as Charlie Brown would say!

hedgie said...

DanaWV---just saw the Hallmark commercial for the Rose Parade....11AM Eastern Time. Now DirecTV guide shows it being on at 3pm...go figure...who knows?!?!

paula eagleholic said...

Pretty sunshine on the nest!

NatureNut said...

It's getting so dark here thought I would turn on the nest cam. Looks a little lighter there.
Maybe there will be a New Year visit, unless I missed it.

Lori O. said...

The nest looks like someone did a sepia wash on it!

DanaMo said...

My Uncle came home from the hospital today. He is doing a little bit better. Not sure if they will continue the chemo or not. He did not tolerate it well. I hope I will not be making a trip to FL anytime soon. I'm very worried about him. Prayers please.

DanaMo said...

Tough season for the skins. Baltimore looks to be doing pretty well right now.

DanaMo said...

Lots of wind at the nest.

DanaMo said...

Guess that is the setting sun doing that color change. Looks kinda cool.

Lori O. said...

The wind almost sounds like ocean waves crashing it's so loud.

Mema Jo said...

Prayers for him DanaMo

Lori O. said...

Hi DanaMo - that's good news that your Uncle is out of the hospital.

Lori O. said...

It is going to take a bit longer to get the house back in order. Rake leaves or un-decorate? Will decide tomorrow. Have football tonight.

Tomorrow I will go to yoga in the evening as they have a new teacher for the noon class and I like the teacher who used to teach it and she has a class for the young people in the evening, so it will be with two sixty somethings and the young skate boarder types...MTBR LOL

My heart is so full of gratitude that I need to go light a candle and do some prayers.

After yoga I went out for a pot of tea with a yoga friend and it was a very good visit.

Hello everyone! Hi Judy....yes, I popped in again. Trying to do so. Its been a busy day around here...got all the remaining stuff down, packed, adn put in the barn loft. Went down and looked at this chicken coop (Nashville is looking at passing a backyard poultry law)...watched my birds at the feeder today. Had a beautiful little woodpecker come to visit. Love those....just was a nice day. :) Now, please, tell me, if someone will, about these blogs. I'm kind of getting the hang of the daily posting, reading, almost thiking I might be keeping up....but blogs? ??????????

Christine said...

Hello ladies and gents. I hope everyone is well and that you all had a nice Christmas!

I haven't stopped in in a while, but wanted to tell you about my trip to Washington State. My friend's son got married so I made the treck out to see Enumclaw and Mt. Rainier. I told my friends that I wanted to see some eagles while I was out there and on my last day there we went searching.

We spotted one about 200 yards off, well Tony spotted it then brought it in on the scope so I could get a good look. Then about a mile further I spotted a nest and BOTH eagles were there!!! We went down the property drive and they let us go in close to the tree. While we were there a juvie flew up with a big stick. I'm guessing it was this year's fledge wanting "mommy" :) It was cool to watch the parents telling him it was time to grow up and move on while he/she was crying for re-admittance. I'm guessing up there they probably fledge later in the year so I'm sure he/she's never really left the area. It was the coolest thing in nature I've ever watched! On our way back we saw 2 other nests, but no residents. I'll post the pics in my blog page here. It was soooo cool!!!

Anyway, hope everyone is having a good start to 2012!!

Next trip Vegas for the race in March!! Doubt I'll see any eagles, but will definitely have a great time!

“@KrisPA: My darling husband went to meet Jesus this morning. It was peaceful and beautiful. Funeral details to come soon.”

Lolly said...

Hi Christine! Wow, what an experience! Thanks for sharing!

Ok, have a funny tell about a retired engineer and a retired teacher. Santa put a hand held can opener in the teachers's stocking. The kind that does not leave a sharp edge. Well, they went to use it tonight but could not figure out how to use it. Called daughter, she was no help except she and jubby got a good laugh. Engineer got out the old can opener, teacher kept trying to figure it out...then teacher said, wait a minute....they had already cut it and it was just sitting there. Duhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Lolly said...

Sharon, so sorry. He certainly was a very special person.

Costume Lady said...

What a great adventure, Christine!
I'm guessing the Juvie was trying to do a little housekeeping and promising to do a little babysitting when the time comes:)

Some birds do that, but don't think it is in the nature of eagles. Oh, we learn and see so much in nature!

Saint Vincent de Paul
Mass services on 10:30 Sunday morning are going to suit my schedule...which includes seeing James the same day...
My parish is actually St. James in Charles Town, next county over...the Other way.......work and personal schedules have presented a challenge, that I think I have now found a solution to....

I miss Mass......

It's going to be windy again today so get ready for those beautiful sideways fly-outs/poofs! That was so cool last night!

Lori O. said...

DanaMo, is the indoor workout a New Year's Resolution?

Anyone else doing new exercise/fitness programs for the New Year?
We'll cheer you on. I haven't committed to the exercise regimen but could use some prodding! :)
