BWE Update

03/23/10:
We've updated our Eagle Cam Web Log with four new videos of our amazing eaglets. And we also have a video of our unusual white pelicans.

In other news, the Ft St. Vrain Eagle Cam is expecting hatching with a nest full of snow.

CO cam is on, eagle incubating in the snow...doesn't look quite as bad as I thought it would.

Mema Jo said...

Good Mid Week Morning All!
Just signing in and need to read previous thread.
Our nest looks & sounds great in this sunshine.

paula eagleholic said...

And they have 2 bonding pics from the Osprey cam...

hedgie said...

Glare is really bad on nest. Hard to see our little bobblehead.

floralgirl said...

Thanks, those pelicans at BW are so cool.

WV sUSAn said...

Good Morning all you dedicated eaglet momsters. (I don't think we have any dadsters on here right now :-) I see we are in store for another windy day on the nest. Bobblehead Palmer is looking frisky and well fed. For a newbie, he/she is getting around that big egg hole pretty darn well.

Mits said...

still 2 eggs at PA Falcon cam, she has been antsy this a.m.

Lolly said...

Good morning! Have been reading the paper while keeping an eye on our nest and Hornby.

Hornby has 2 eggs!!!!

Now back to the paper. ☺

Good morning everyone. Got a rainy day here. Will make the flowers grow and its not snow so its all good. Isn't there something about Rainy Days in Paris. Hmmm I guess I have Paris on my mind but I don't have any pictures of it to see on my computer "yet". Going to the hairdresser this morning. Maybe I still have some blonde roots going on. ooops OK I am NOT picking on blondes. Really!!!

glo said...

INCOMING Its the Loveliness of Paris and Rainy Nights in Georgia. Geeesh I hope my hairdresser can do something about this It could be a long day :-)

Mema Jo said...

Prayers from all over got FtStVrain through the night's storm. A video is on their site. Hatching is expected there.
Great for Hornby! Thanks Lolly for letting us know.
Come on Harrisburg falcons - get those 5 eggs in the nest box.

I have the great breathing test this afternoon... I'm gonna try not to flub it!

Mema Jo said...

Glo - didn't the Paris pics even come through in your personal messages?

WV sUSAn said...

Hey Mits -- Is that common for the peregrine falcon to lay and hatch five eggs? I think I read the PA nest had five last year. WOW, that's impressive.

Thanks NCTC, Outdoor Channel and Paula for getting our sound and cam working again.

Mits said...

yes that gal up in PA has had a clutch of 5 several times....once they hatch and get a little older, they broadcast when they band them...

wvgal_dana said...

Good Morning in Eagleland EVERYONE. Have not read comments yet. Probably won't be able to until come back from running an errand in awhile.

WV sUSAn said...

Good Luck with your breathing test this afternoon, Jo. Just get in there and blow like the wind at the nest and pretend you're trying to blow Belle's head feathers backward. lol

Mema Jo said...

That just might help me if I think that way, Susan. lol

Judie said...

Good morning,

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Can't seem to get the nest at the times Palmer is visible and being fed. Sigh!

Jo, hope the test today is a huge success.

Mema Jo said...

I was just checking the FB settings to see if I had something marked that prohibited the pics to come through to my friends...... but now I am more confused than ever as far as all those privacy settings. I mainly have every item marked Friends Only.

they were born on Feb 14th...getting big, looks like they have to put something on top of the incubator, so they don't jump out

Mits said...

yes those osprey at Dunedin are looking good...

WV sUSAn said...

That's amazing, Paula, that the entire nest, as big as it is, would be picked so clean.

Mits said...

yes, Suzanne and I think he is nuts, he comes every night, but guess the boars like him.

Lolly said...

It is so funny! I was watching the boars when they scattered. A car drove up. Saw two men and a dog. One man proceeded to scatter all kinds of food. I thought he was going to leave. I said, dont forget your bucket. Then he got a handful of hay, put it on the bucket and sat down. lol He needed a little cushioning. Now the boars are very close to him.

Mits said...

thanks, Lynn be trying to keep an eye out for an egg there.

hedgie said...

Leopards really are growing, Mits!! Wonder if they are ever open to the public for tours?

Mits said...

so many cams, so little time, but it is so much fun going around the world watching the different cams

just once a year, Lynn, think it is in October.

Mema Jo said...

Can't believe I am sitting here enjoying the wild boar cam.. very interesting.

Incidentally the penguins of Baltimore Zoo are getting fed.......

Lolly said...

The boars really scattered, didn't they, when he left! I can not believe I am sitting here watching that as well. lol Have things to do! Whoops! Here they come back. Little pigs!

Mema Jo said...

Just reading the newspaper with the obituary of the little 4 year old.
I cannot believe that this statement was there: He loved riding his four wheeler......... I mean - well I think you know my feelings and I'll leave it at that.

Mits said...

yeah kinda like a no comment on that one, Jo:(

Ms Bookworm said...

Good Morning, Helen, Lynn, Lolly, Dana, et al.!

Was trying to catch up on the blog and take care of some Earthlink e-mails, when I heard a couple of chirps from Palmer~~lo and behold, I got to see him getting fed! He seems much stronger, and more able to keep that little bobble head up better! No wonder, with the excellent care he's getting! It's sure windy at the nest, so hope he has some rocks in his pockets today!

Judy, Fantastic idea to share pictures of the little fellow. One question, if you don't mind--did you get a cat? I didn't think you had one.

Wow, thanks to everyone responsible for fixing the sound on our cam--sure is nice to be able to hear what's going on!

Well, need some coffee, for sure, and need to go study the school book for a while--until my contrary brain rebels at so much info. Keep an eye on little Palmer for me, and I'll be back later. :o]

Did You Know.....what we call Finland water nest is actually called NAUVO....

Remember the questions/controversey last year of posting pics from Finney?? Here is update info---it is good!
Finney Pics

Here is a site showing Koo's skeletal remains from necropsy. It is out there, so your choice of whether you want to look at it or not. Don't shoot the messenger. Sure, it's sad, but it's educational, as well. Looks like poor think would never have had a chance.

hedgie said...

Well, I have one more comment to make about the 4 y.o. He went out after dark on his own unknown to family and went for a ride.........no charges being filed........DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR 4 Y.O. IS AT NIGHT????????? Unbelievable.

Judy said...

Ms Bookworm.....There is another person on this blog whose name is Judie....that is who you probably think I am. I have only been on her about twice. Right now...looking for a picture of the Baby eagle.

Lolly said...

Really must get busy.

Have been cam surfing.

Have you ever considered....who brings babies to storks?☺

I also want to say thanks for all the laughs. Last night I checked email. I am very bad about letting it go. Anyway, there I sat laughing at all the comments about BWO.

Okay, now to check fb and I am off to excercise and clean house. Have lots to do tomorrow so better clean today. Cloudy and rain expected so will not be going out today.

paula eagleholic said...

Judy, do you need one emailed to you?

Mits said...

yes Lynn, I am, it is for all the cam people...still not sure if I want to do it again this year, but we wil see. In any event, I will still have to be part of it when I do my regular cam shifts, so really do have to go.

Hi, Gang,
Back for just a bit--I have FANTASTIC news!!!!! A really, really good friend of mine who I used to work with just called. She just found out from her oncologist that she's now cancer free!!!!!! (She had some kind of lymphoma.) She went through a year of chemo about 3 years ago, and went into remission. Then about a year and a half ago, her husband got really sick, and she had to quit work to be his caregiver. About 6 months ago she found out the cancer had come back, and went through 4 months of some really nasty chemo. Now she's fine! Her oncologist wants her to take one more round of chemo just to be really sure they got it all, but she is fine, and she sounds GREAT! She's got her appetite back and is gaining back some of the weight she lost, too! THANK GOD!!! And thank YOU for your prayers for her! Boy, that phone call really made my day!
:o] :o] :o]

So sorry for the mixup! You're right--I mistook you for Judie! DUH! Sorry about that! Guess it was due to a lack of morning coffee!

Well, I'm back to studying the school book for my exam tonight. Will try to be back before I leave for school. Have a great afternoon! :o]

BTW, found out that a few of the upgraded files in my computer security program were corrupted. The program found the problem and got rid of them, so hopefully everything is OK now. Later, alligators!

WV sUSAn said...

Hedgie -- Koo's entire life was educational in many ways. Seeing her structure laid out there on that site was an eye opener. The way her leg had healed... wow That's the first bird I ever cried over and she still brings a tear to my eye from time to time.

WV sUSAn said...

Ms Bookworm -- glad to hear your friend is again cancer-free. yipppeeeee My husband was diagnosed last year and had surgery a week after we were married. Yes, a big wow.... He had his one year checkup this month and, yes, he has been declared cancer-free also. Very exciting news! Now, we don't have to think about it for another four months.

hedgie said...

Susan, poor Koo's life and passing were so traumatic to many of us.....just pray that we never have to witness such tragedy again. Hope that the Finnish "powers that be" heard the worldwide outcry enough that they will take action in the future if there is ever another maiming of that sort.

Hmmmm!! I updated FireFox last evening, and everything seemed OK, until I was commenting about the TH thing and reading the IWS blog (they weren't sure one has hatched yet), when the whole browser suddenly crashed.

hedgie said...

BEagle said...

What was all the fussing about? It almost seemed as if there was a threat in the trees or air above.
Lib was actually grunting, something I had not seen before!

Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, Everyone!

Back for just a few minutes--eyes need a rest from reading.
WV sUSAn, That's fantastic news about your husband! Thank God! Wishing your hubby all the best!

Think my 'puter fixed itself, all right--not 'crash dump' prone any more, and MUCH faster! Phew!

Have a whole bunch of singing White-crowned sparrows out back, and the 2 Band-tailed pigeons are here for a late lunch. Heard raccoons on the roof in the middle of the night, and I think at least one pair of Black-crowned Night Herons is back in our trees. Must be Spring!

Well, better study some more. My eyes can rest when I get home from school tonight!

Will be back after school. Have a good afternoon/evening! :o]

paula eagleholic said...

Looks like there was a switch at our nest, Belle now on duty

BEagle said...

Belle and Lib certainly raised a ruckus both on the nest, grunting and screeching. They were looking up so there must have been a baby bird threat above. That's my guess.

Does anyone know what happened to the other egg at the TH nest?

paula eagleholic said...

What is that nestover in the nest around 6ish...

BEagle said...

Must be what Belle brought back from the supermarket.

BEagle said...

It looks like a big bird.

Lynne2 said...

Hi all!

Wow, wonder what upset the eagles so badly???

Jim, my firefox was crashing regularly for a while but it hasn't lately. I always sent the crash report but no one ever emailed me with info.

Cocker rescue called the shelter today and they are able to pick her up but not til tomorrow so the shelter will hold her!!! They have me as the backup person on the chance they don't show, but I'm sure they will. They seem like a really good group.

Daisy had to go to the vet today for exam and bloodwork. She has been having bouts of what can only be described as "hysteria" and they are coming more frequently. She just suddenly gets so wound up and starts running, jumping and nipping at us..and I mean REALLY wound up. She grabbed my whole elbow yesterday while I was playing fetch with her and she jumped in my face. I have a bruise on my elbow and thankfully I was wearing my heavy jacket or she'd have drawn blood. This is NOT acceptable. The trainer wanted us to rule out any underlying health concerns before proceeding. She was supposed to come tomorrow but I won't have test results back yet so I am waiting to see if she wants to put it off until then.

Went to dentist for checkup and cleaning...no cavities!! That's on the 3rd time in my adult life that has ever happened!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

What in the world was that all about??

paula eagleholic said...

Something must be flying around out there...hawk perhaps? More calling out!!

Steve Chase said...

We're watching. Besides some nearby crows a few minutes ago, seems like she's calling for the mate. Nothing else going on...

BEagle said...

Belle and Lib were both on the nest a few minutes ago carrying on like that. I think there is something threatening in the air.

BEagle said...

This might be a stupid question (which I am very good at) but I kept thinking about their eaglet from last year. She wouldn't be a threat, would she?

paula eagleholic said...

Beagle \ there are still 2 eggs at TH.

Osprey - the female osprey has coloring on her chest, the male normally does not. They call it a necklace...I think of it as the female "wears the jewelry" to remember.

Lynne2 said...

still reading back....

Andy, great news about your friend!!

Susan, great news about your hubby too!

Jo, hope your breathing test went well today!

Let's have all GOOD news today!

Anyone heard from Norma????

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Good to know there was not a threat. She was definitely squalling!

paula eagleholic said...

OH, and I think that nestover looks like fowl as well....duck maybe?

BEagle said...

If there are people close by to keep a check on potential threats, I'll relax. Whew!

Lynne2 said...

thanks Steve.....I hope it isn't the crows. I know hungry crows can pretty bold and merciless.

BEagle, I don't think Hidey would be a threat to the nest (anyone else know?). She is probably sailing the skies and won't even be getting a mate of her own for another few years yet. And I think she'd be in big trouble if she wanted to "move back home"!

BEagle said...

It's gotta be a duck. Maybe that's why the birds were carrying on. Duck just may be their favorite!

magpie said...

Steve just posted, they are watching also !
Best place to watch from, no doubt!

Thanks Steve

magpie said...

And the Parent is eating, guess that is a good sign!
I can't eat when I am all riled up ~

BEagle said...

Thanks Lynne. Being a new observer makes me feel like a ding bat at times.
Thanks Steve.

I think Lib took out earlier to shoo that crow away (if it was a crow.)

paula eagleholic said...

Last year's or any previous years eagle would be treated as an intruder!

magpie said...

I'm going to return to this set of blog posts when I can check out all the links everyone has posted and talked about....when there is a little more time, so Thanks in advance, Everyone!

I actually accidentally hit on the Stork Nest the other day when looking for another favorite, saw some birds in the nest at dusk

BEagle, don't feel like a ding bat...most came on here I'm sure with not a whole lot of knowledge about eagles! It's been a good learning experience! (and when I started last year, I had to make a "cheat sheet" so I could keep everyone straight!)

paula eagleholic said...

I can hear Mr Crow nearby, guess Belle just wants him gone! More nasty calls for Mr Crow!

Thanks Lynne and what a good idea. I will get a notebook and write things down.

Has anyone out there been watching the Two Harbors nest? I can only see one egg now and wonder what happened.

How could you tell there was a crow around? Paula, do you have eagle ears?

Lynne2 said...

There is a reason the call a flock of crows a "murder".

And they harass the crap out of raptors, too. Don't know why but have seen it many times...one morning here in the yard. About 20 of them just ganged up on 2 redshouldered hawks...you never heard so much noise.

I guess, on the other hand, I'll play Devil's Advocate and say the I'm quite sure a crow's nest with yummy babies in it would not be off the menu for any raptor.

Beagle - I could hear the crow calling! Didn't hear it earlier when they were calling out, but I did this last time.

Steve - thanks for the info! We can hear him up there at night as well!

See Ya Beagle.

Ravens love to harass eagles as well!

OH Beagle, don't feel like a ding bat. We have all learned so much over the years, when we didn't know anything when we started watching.

Please ask questions! It's the only way to learn...the only stupid question is the one not asked!

I think I can speak for most of us that were here in the beginning, this has definitely been a learn-as-you-go process. I didn't know squat about eagles in March 2006.
