My hawk has been back out here. I posted a pic of him on Sissy's pics. He was chasing a sparrow all around my pussy willow tree but the sparrow got away!!!
Snow in the nest box and two parents at Valmont.... mentioned last night, three eggs there ! Also snow at Ft. St. Vrain...eagle has shaken off the snow...
I need to get out in the WILD and see some grackles and robins, then I will KNOW that SPRING is coming..I see where many of you have seen this. Wonder what the roads are like to Swinging Bridge !
I got this bush from my Daddy!!! That is where all of my cardinals stay all the time. Really all of the birds use it as a resting place. It is right across from my feeders.
Guess you are right, Sissy---my pussy willow didn't have a real trunk. THere was just a humongous base with many branches sprouting up from ground level---but they were 20 feet high! Sure hurt my heart when it died.
Speaking of TV's---cartton in todays' paper: One TV is proposing to another, with a big ring being offered. The other TV says "I'm sorry, Adam, but you're ugly....I mean we ALL are, but especially you." Guess that was a NO!
Even tho' there is obviously lots of meltimng going on, it seems tobe ,ostly underneath from ground warmth. Top of the snow shows little evidence of melt. My pyracantha looks okay, but rhododendron and holly don't look good at all..:(
Hi, Magpie. I did see that Paula had posted the info on TH, but I haven't checked it out yet.
It's looking like WE must have selected a new nesting spot, rather than rebuilding their old one, which fell apart at the end of last season... nothing but rock visible on that one now.
Norma I sent you an email right away wanting a copy of the magazine but I see it got returned :-(. Yes I want one an dYes I had mentioned in there if you order several I bet it will be cheaper. I will be happy to pay for my copy. Hedgie Hope you see this too. Just let me know if it gets ordered and who I need to send the money too. :-) Thanks
Jim - if you read the latest IWS update, the WE pair has been seen at their nest, and it has been noted that they have brought in new sticks. Info was just posted this week.
I WANT ONE TOO. HOW CAN WE DO THIS AND GET A DISCOUNT...WE NEED TO GET A SYSTEM OR PLAN. ONE OF US WILL DO THE ORDERING AND THOSE WHO WANT ONE CAN EMAIL THE PERSON INCHARGE AND LET THEM KNOW.
MARGY, don't even think about going to Swinging Bridge! At least make sure you have your cell with you and charged up!
You're welcome Paula.... YOU would have been an excellent author for the article, but I think the lady did a nice job...mentions last year's lone hatchling, and the previous year's... is very readable for general audiences though...and the picture of the nest tree and eagle very good. Photographer for that was Ron Hagerty. xo going to try to be on time for grocery shopping trip xoxo Love to all ♥
sunshine here today and already almost 40....break out the tank top and shorts!!!
Margy, saw robins yesterday!! And one lone grackle, strangely enough not long after Sharon posted she had one....hmmm...how long does it take a grackle to fly here from there...
Today, he brought a few friends!
My crocus are poking up, too! Sprung had begun to spring!! Going to head out later to see if I can uncover some of my little shrubs out front. Maybe take out the lawn chair and a glass of iced tea and soak up some rays!
OK so yes I gatthered Norma's email doesn't work. Hmmm the cute geeks I know well they live kind of far from her. Maybe though they have relatives in the area. OK well whoever let me know when something gets organized and add me to the list of folks wanitng a copy of the March issue. OK Thanks
Lynne, don't carry it too far! LOL---definitely not sunbathing weather.
Wanda, Norma said she would order and send out....I will cost-share with her this time!
BTW---Wanda, re: Survivor----before the new season started, they had done an episode with some of the previous winners and favorites---that was when Richard Hatch was on! It was a bit misleading---at the time, I thought those folks were the ones coming back for this Heroes and Villains season---but not so.
The snowpack around my house is a lot more dense with the melting yesterday....Boo was actually standing on top of the snow this morning. Can't believe you have crocus poking thru, Lynne. I don't have anything out there but snow!
Paula, I moved the snow off of the back patio flower bed during both storms in and effort to save my little baby butterfly bush and I had planted crocus bulbs in there as well. The snow pack IS really dense now but much shorter so I have room to move the snow off of the front beds now too. That's on the very warm and sunny southern side of the house so I just bet they'll be coming up there in no time too!
Okay, gang....I will send out a Momster mail about the magazine....please reply to me if you want one and then I'll give Norma the total and she will order.
Hello all:) Crocus, huh? nice...just a note, if your butterfly bushes have gotten broken from the snow, just chop the broken branches off, and they should sprout from the remaining stalks in the Spring. They benefit from a pruning anyway, so hopefully can be saved. Luckily hubby had cut all ours back here, so I think mine will be ok. The only one that may have an issue is the weeping buddleia which grows very differently than the others, and I'm not sure how much damage mine will have.
There is nothing but snow in my yard! There could be a giraffe out there and we wouldn't be able to see if for the snow. I sure would love to see a flower poke up through there, but it would have to be pretty tall!!!
MORNIN' MOVIN'JIM!---'OUR EAGLES' are featured in the WEST VIRGINIA magazine---It is published monthly by the WVDNR---(WV DEPT NATURAL RESOURCES)----will send you one--
Good Morning, Everyone! Am up a lot earlier today. Have to drive up to the house in the high desert to check on it, and to pick up the mail in the P.O. box there.
Still mighty windy at the nest! Hope our eagles have rocks in their pockets.
Cloudy here in SoCal, and rain expected tonight into tomorrow. Thought it wise to go to the desert early today, before rain starts. Supposed to rain all weekend.
Better get going~~will be back later when I get home. Take care, everyone! :o]
Had OK up. Not sure where they have the left side cam pointed, maybe in the direction of the new nest. An eagle flew across the screen. It was really strange, in that the cam slowed it down.
I need to run for now. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the day. My blog has been updated and now I need to get to work and finish some stuff before this evening.
Yes, I shouldn't neglect to mention the equally amazing Liberty, who brought the big meal in today and just moved right onto the eggs.
(My husband wore the eagle on his shoulder when he was in the military: 101st Airborne. Such a wonderful symbol of strength, dedication, power, and THIS is who you turn to when you want to get the job done.)
Kicking bird, my hubby served in the 82nd in the late 80s!! AIRBORNE!!
Judie, picture this crime scene....Wife leaves dog alone in home. Husband comes home and finds wife's slipper all chewed up and strewn across the floor. Calls wife to tell her. Dog mysteriously disappears the next day. Husband tells dog police that wife has been heard to say "I'm going to kill that dog". Husband now missing as well. No evidence of foul play.
Phyrfly Dana---click on my profile and then on contact/email me and send me your mailing address, please, so I can give to Norma for magazine! I clicked on your webpage and contact link, but puter froze up!
♥♥♥Norma♥♥♥ You guys are just too kind!! (((HUGS)))
When I was a young girl, just a few years ago, I had a pen pal. Think we became pen pals through Highlights magazine. Her name was Carol and she lived in WV. How about that sports fans?!!!!
Meant to comment about the pink armadillo. Jack will not shoot it UNLESS it starts to plow through MY yard!!!☺ Jack is not a hunter, does not like to shoot animals. Heck he doesn't like killing the moles that tear up the lawn either.
Oh Lolly, I remember pen pals. I had two, one from Bethlehem, PA (Can't remember her name at the moment, might have been Margaret), and Queenie (I can remember the name but not where she lived). And yes, that was just a few years ago...tee hee.
I am off. Things to do. Places to go. Cooking today. Sunday is Joey's 40th birthday. Laurel is having a BIG party tomorrow evening. I am helping by preparing some food. Then we will be up there tomorrow.
I've returned! Took long enough didn't I! I did get my phone call from Christine (Germany) - They have been in Germany for 26 months but may need to stay longer. Won't know anything for certain until after Patrick has another meeting this upcoming week as to chances of getting back into the states. I'll keep you informed BUT please pray a 'Reassignment to States' prayer for them. Thanks!
They don't think it's a new pair, BTW. They think last year that something kept one of them from returning to the nest during that snowstorm...could have been self preservation.
Heck, this winter has been all about self-preservation!!! And I don't think it is over for us. They are talking trash about another storm next week. Wonder if domestic homicide has gone up? I can see how it could happen!! ROFL!!
Now after making these brilliant remarks...I am off to "walk". Did not walk yesterday, worked in the yard instead. Cloudy today. More rain a comin! YUK!
Uh, oh... I must have been on other topics for more than an hour. Sorry, Norma, I'll check out the magazine thing and get back to you.
I hurried over to CNN to watch Tiger's speech and a bunch of other related stuff; then I got into the Figure Skating Gold Medal, which seems controversial to some at least...couldn't find a video of the performance anywhere on the INet, but there are plenty of clips for and against the winner's performance; then I got intrigued with the medal presentation to the Dalai Lama......
I just want to say that I thought Tiger's speech sounded like he (and his family) are pursuing the right course to get his life back on track and heading in the right direction.
Murder did someone say Murder I am about to kill someone if they don't pick up the trash on the corner. Our day is Wednesday. I called yesterday and the lady said mamn it is still early. I said trash day was yesterday Oh she says. Well still there Called today. Lady says we asked that you all put trash in one place. I said it is in one place. One hundred bags and growing. Now the mayor is saying don't save the spots that you cleaned for days. Murder did some one say murder. Oh hi everyone. Hope you are having a nice day. Kick loved the food interpretation fur phoey
Whew---spent an hour trying to fix problems with my all-in-one printer. Had to uninstall, FIND the disc, and then re-install, in order to fix a stupid printer head. Now everything is fine again, except for the ink on my fingers that won't wash off! :(
Crocus mine will be late this year. July maybe. Jim threw a lot of the snow in the garden so we could feed the birds. Saw the cardinal pair that I thought was gone. They are not coming to my yard and that is unusual.
knew it was going to happen, but just not when....the gutter in the back of the house just came crashing down, just could not hold the snow and ice any longer, and hubby tried to get some of it off last night when we saw it sagging, oh well, it is what it is:(
The girl down the street said to me wasn't it a beautiful snow. I asked her where the h she had been the last couple of weeks. She laughed. Luckily my downspout is in the sun and I kept hitting it to get the ice to move. It is open now. BBL things to do.
Oh, Ceil....sounds dreadful. Have you seen any rats?? Yuck! Bill took my 1st weeks worth to dumpster at the shop; hoping that they make it this coming Monday. Wonder if they'll give us credit for 2 weeks missed?? In my dreams, right?
No, need to keep any bodies in the house still spring. They will keep nicely in the snow.
I have finished my walking. That is one good way to warm up! Jack did not walk. Something is wrong with his foot. The ball of his foot is painful and he did not do anything to it. At least anything that he can remember. He is now resting his foot and putting ice on it. It is gradually getting better. So, I walked alone.
I am worried about Daisy. She we put out a canine alert? ☺

Norma, Norma.....if you order a bunch of issues of the WV mag, I will share the costs with YOU this time!!
Speaking of TV's---cartton in todays' paper: One TV is proposing to another, with a big ring being offered. The other TV says "I'm sorry, Adam, but you're ugly....I mean we ALL are, but especially you."
Guess that was a NO!
Thanks for the link, Margy!
Morning, all! TGIF!!!

Even tho' there is obviously lots of meltimng going on, it seems tobe ,ostly underneath from ground warmth. Top of the snow shows little evidence of melt.

I've been very busy. Have to go write a test now.

goodbye, Margy!!!!!
Thanks, Paula. I looked at WE earlier in the week, or tried to, but the cam was down at the time.
I did read a recent answer by Dr. Sharpe to a question on that nest, and he thought they had changed locations.
WELL! All the better if they stay, since all the camera equipment is pointed that way, and it's been upgraded in the off season.
C(°ٿ°)D
Jim
Lynne, don't carry it too far! LOL---definitely not sunbathing weather.
Wanda, Norma said she would order and send out....I will cost-share with her this time!

JIm - info and video in IWS update thread...
The snowpack around my house is a lot more dense with the melting yesterday....Boo was actually standing on top of the snow this morning. Can't believe you have crocus poking thru, Lynne. I don't have anything out there but snow!
ME, Norma, I want one!!!!
K-81, the male, just took over duties at TH, and as I was checking the PH nest, K26, the female, flew in and began work on the nest.

Norma, I would definatly be interested in a copy. Each year I say to Ed that we should get a subscription. Maybe now I will.
Good morning, while it is still morning.
Working day today. Need to get creative and think up crime scenes for an exam.
Watched T.Woods. Seemed sincere. Wish him a full personal recovery for the sake of wife and kids.
Sunshine this morning and melting snow. At least the gutters have thawed.
Enjoy the morning!
I'm thinking that must be Belle chowing down, and how much energy she's expended laying 4 eggs, incubating through 2 major snowstorms. Amazing.
ON THE VIEW---They are having a dog show---with dogs that folks have picked up at the 'pound'!--so cool--
I WANT A COPY OF THE MAGAZINE!
Lynn, I will email you. I want to pay for mine, you should not pay for it. I will email you.

Very vocal on the nest. Time to switch?
Kicking and Lynne, (((hugs))) to your hubbies for their service to our country:)
Anyone hear anything about Caltrans? Time for a second egg. I watched for a while, saw two at the nest, hoped there would be a switch, but no luck.

Lunch time here in my sunny but windy valley....
Just saw 2 eggs at Caltrans!!!!

Lynne's story is interesting, wonder if walmart trip is an alibi...
92° and sunny in the gh!
Be right there, Megan, will bring lunch:)
OK:) please bring your own chair, and don't mind the mess.
Eagle just flew in!
Sending PRAYERS for a RESIGNMENT TO STATES for MEMA JO'S family! --GOD BLESS!--
Don't forget me, Norma.
Looks like Belle is back
My gh is so tiny, we should have built a larger one. I do love to go in there, love the smell and the warmth. lol
LOlly - thought you were gone, was going to let you know that I had posted 2 eggs for Caltrans...
Just got another view of the Caltran's two eggs.
Megan, I will bring my own chair and some drinks to share!
Well, I was gone but have been keeping a close eye on Caltrans as I was eating my breakfast. lol Saw the 2 eggs about 15 min ago.
Eagle chatter from Lib...
Wonder if they will have 3 again this year as well.
And CO, too. Wonder if they will have 3.
They don't think it's a new pair, BTW. They think last year that something kept one of them from returning to the nest during that snowstorm...could have been self preservation.
BTW, they were eating possum at CRC earlier...wonder if it was donated, LOL.
self preservation during a snowstorm..hell, I can relate to that.
Yeah, me too:) eagle flew out, switch
Heck, this winter has been all about self-preservation!!! And I don't think it is over for us. They are talking trash about another storm next week. Wonder if domestic homicide has gone up? I can see how it could happen!! ROFL!!
actually in DC, there were no homicides for over a week:)
Wonderful WV Magazine...

Maybe not homicide, but a little maiming has crossed my mind!!!
Hmmmmmmm?????? Wonder if a lot of babies will born 9 months after being snowed in???????
We won't worry about you Lynn! We know you were snowed in alone!☺
Not at Magpie's Roost !!
lol ☺
bye
Whoa- no violence or babies here!
Now after making these brilliant remarks...I am off to "walk". Did not walk yesterday, worked in the yard instead. Cloudy today. More rain a comin! YUK!
BBL
Hey, but you had your parking lot plowed! lol
LOL, Lolly.........even if not alone and if young, NO chance of it here since '76!!!
And if they kill somebody, they will be stuck with the body in the house until the snow clears.
Oooh, true! Thanks for reminding me of that. That may be the deterrent I need, Sher!!
hubby was not here during most of the storms, so I'm clear;)
What's that old saying...Make love, not war...

Phew, I know you are grateful Mits! :)
for sure, Sharon:)
Did you see they switched the Pandas and enclosures at SD??
Diego and Mom are in one with better climbing structures and better cameras now. You can actually see some good detail up close now.

Egg roll!
yeah well, they better trim the plant that is in front of the cam...., blocks the view of the panda...
Kick loved the food interpretation

Whew---spent an hour trying to fix problems with my all-in-one printer. Had to uninstall, FIND the disc, and then re-install, in order to fix a stupid printer head. Now everything is fine again, except for the ink on my fingers that won't wash off! :(
yeah and your taxes are being paid for what....that is terrible
NEW THREAD IS UP!
Lynn that is funny. No rats yet. I feel bad for the guy whose house has all the trash in front of it.
They picked up the recycle today.
Lolly if you are still here.
