DIOPTASE
Dioptase is of Greek derivation: "dia" & "optazein" meaning "to see through" CuSiO2(OH)2 is the chemical composition of Dioptase. Dioptase has brilliant green transparent crystals. The author if this picture tells us that this stone is a far more vivid green than could be photographed. These lovely green crystals grow on the gray matrix. Dioptase, although as beautiful as an emerald, has a flaw in that it is quite soft. This precludes it from being a precious stone, not for lack of beauty, but it won't hold up to wear. Dioptase was used as a pigment by the Russians in their icons (religious paintings) since the mineral is found in Siberia.
I am happy to report that I have arrived at home. My dogs are tickled to see me. Scooby jumped up on me and left 2 pretty good scratches on the top of my leg. :(
Ceil , Jay is still here, he has a meeting in Norfolk tomorrow.....I think I have decided to stay longer, sure the zoo will not mind....I have things I need to do, that did not get done yet....
I had one glass of wine when we went to Lombardi's for pizza the other night....or as Maggie calls it Bardi's, Molly was in awe, some little toddler boy could actually scream louder than she can, she kept quiet the whole time....
I was babysitting my one and a half year old grandaughter today and we tuned in just in time to see the morning meal being delivered and eaten. What a miracle for both of us to see it.She has to be one of the youngest new admirers of Hidey. I'm sure gonna miss her when she's gone. Love, Gwen
Gwen - don't know what is the hardest - I will see for the 1st time (other then web cam & photos) my 1 yr old great granddaughter this July! Can't wait! They can sure steal your hearts very quickly.
Not much on TV tonight. DWTS is over and NOTHING to replace it:( Tomorrow (which is most of our favorite viewing night) is probably going to be reruns:( BAH HUMBUG!!
I messed up. My grandchildren live here in Lancaster, and I get to see them just about every day. I am so blessed. I meant that we'll all miss Hidey when she's gone. And that must have been a huge fish they are having for dinner. Love, Gwen
Wanda & Gene - there is nothing wrong with Belle's foot. That is a normal position. Eagles can stand on one foot and rest the other, much like we see the one legged osprey do so at BWO.
Speaking of which...eggs should be hatching there soon!
Hi all! Can't stay but wanted to wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day and a prayer of thanks to those who gave all for our great country.... and, a Happy MemorEagle Day! I never made it to the nest on Sunday because things got out of wack as they sometimes do, but it looks you you all had fun on Saturday! Have a great and blessed night and hopefully I'll get a chance to chat tomorrow!
Wanda - on our NCIS regular show tomorrow, we should have one or more to go. Zeva is being tortured by her father's command. They need to save her!!!!!
OK, Jo, good to know it is not a rerun. Love that show. We taped a few episodes, but decided to just watch the reruns. Jo, did you watch the Snake video...if so, did you hear Michael's commentary about catching snakes and selling them for a dollar when he was a child, I guess?
Wonderful shots, Deb! Tell that Oriole to go home to Baltimore where he belongs!!!! We saw one at NCTC, too....but heard him first and by the time I found him in the foliage,he took off....don't know whether anyone else got a shot or not.
Jack and I got busy today and I never got back on the blog. Went shopping for a new TV for the bedroom, also got a new fan for the patio. Got one of those tower fans with a remote. Would like a ceiling fan but it is too low. After that I worked in the yard. Another gorgeous day, warmer but still very nice.

GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE! Just checking in really quickly to see how Hidey is doing. I believe that's her on the edge of the nest between 2:00 and 3:00. Don't see Spidey yet tonight. Looks like all is well! Prayers for a good night's rest for all, and thanks for a shorter work week starting tomorrow, and for our many blessings. Good night! :o]
Thanks, Hedgie! That reminds me, I have to call the school tomorrow morning to see what my tentative class schedule will be. I think they want me to take English, Keyboarding, Medical Terminology, and Medical Instruments. There may be a schedule clash on Thursdays with 2 of the classes, so they may change that. Got to go buy books tomorrow, too! (Helps to know my schedule first for that one!)I'm sure it'll get worked out... I wish I could've heard the new sounds Hidey is making! I keep missing them. Maybe sometime tomorrow. Have a good night, and will talk to you tomorrow. :o]
Wanda, got lost on facebook. LOL My knee is doing great. That shot really worked. When I do my exercises I put on my knee support, but other than that it is doing great. Plan to hike next month in Colorado.
Well, I'm pretty sure he's on the nest, but nothing of Hidey is visible now. But every year they find a spot that's just off camera enough to get everybody excited.....
The Spirit Eagles are encircling the nest tonight again though.
I haven't had a chance to check out Pete's Pond and the Otter yet, wonder how long a small pond will support that big guy.
I hope you had a great Memorial Day. Mine was good.

Good rainy morning all! Sure hope Hidey doesn't choose today to try to fly the coop---he'll be weighted down by wet wings! Hey, Megan....you don't have to water today (except maybe in the GH!). Flood watches listed for lots of metro areas....be careful out there.

Activities will include the weighing, examination and banding of the nestlings. There is no cost to attend the banding event.
Wow, Mits, you can't possibly have that much work to do down there!!! Me thinks you are waiting for nice weather to return so you can enjoy beach R&R!!!! That's another 10 days...lucky girl!! How did you get the translation on the Finney message? My translator doesn't have Finnish!! Sure is strange that this would happen in the middle of the season....drat.
I used goggle translation...have not been here for 8 months, need to go through closets, did just a run thru last week. got people coming in from Ariona middle of June...weather does not look good all this week

Hi there Sissy! Hope your weekend was great! Missed you!
Wanda has videos on her blog! You'll love them.
Margy, I taped the PBS show last evening for you!
Welcome back to Your Roost, Sharon ! Bet all the four-leggeed wildlife was happy to see you again !

BTW Gang....don't forget to add more votes for Bob's picture!!
Margy - I think that Sharon & Mattie are still traveling home. That was our "I want to be a panda when I grow up" who is about to kick back!
The kind of calls last night sure made me realize that a lot of our local yokels did not have Memorial Day and its meaning on their minds.
Lots of hitting and fighting going on!
Hope that changes for tonight....
Oh, thank you JO
whooo boy - tend to get those two lovely gals mixed up from time to time !
Welcome Home Sissy ! and continued safe travel wishes for Mattie and Sharon ☺
Looks like Hidey wants those white downy feathers OFF of her. She is really working hard at it!
Yeah, magpie, it's me. Sher and Mattie were heading home a while ago, hoping to miss some of the holiday/race traffic!!

Just looked at your pics Wanda! Great, thanks so much for posting them. I missed being there so much!!

Eagle in nest Maine Cam 1
Hornby cam. There is a saw and both mom and chick are not happy. Sounds like someone is sawing down the tree. It is very close to the tree nest.
It is windy up at the Maine 1 nest.
The other Maine nest is frozen...
Jo,It always seems windy at the Maine and Hornby nests.
There was loud music at the Maine 1 nest today.
And to think we can't even go up to the barn door to get near our nest!
lol
Jo I am with you. Still cannot get over the night we heard the gun shots and Belle was so upset.
Hidey is chewing on that old piece of bone. I think that is what it is. Well I am off to watch some TV. Have a good night.
Like sit on the beach. LOL Only kidding.
Sharon - well now you have scratches up your legs and scratches down your legs! You match! Glad you are home safely.
Mits - That's good thinking about staying down now that you are there.
No rush to the zoo without the Panda Watch in effect! Enjoy your stay.
I think it is supposed to rain all week, I have not been on the beach yet, crazy huh???
I think it is only isolated storms. Try to take a little bit of time to enjoy. Work can wait. At least sit on the balcony.
Spotty showers for sure...haven't seen one all day...do need it! might have to go out and water!
Yea, Mits, bet you haven't had a G&T on the deck...or my glass of wine!
Paula we had rain Don't have to water. Who had my drink Saturday night? I told Suz to have a glass of wine for me or a bottle.
I had one glass of wine when we went to Lombardi's for pizza the other night....or as Maggie calls it Bardi's, Molly was in awe, some little toddler boy could actually scream louder than she can, she kept quiet the whole time....
Sounds like Molly was intimidated! lol
Most small people are amazed by other small people!
Should soon be a food drop for that late evening snack for Hidey.

Belle visiting nest - getting bed ready for Hidey ??? New food for parent while Hidey watches from her perch around 1:00 position.

Hidey is right there as soon as the bite is in the adults mouth taking it.
watching a House I have never seen before....
TUG OF WAR & GUESS WHO WON!
Not Hidey this time!
Mits - there are lots of reruns I hadn't watched - Watched a Cold Case last night for the 1st time.
I am looking forward to NCIS...didn't get to watch it because of American Idol. Didn't tape it so I could watch reruns;)
Gene was concerned about Belles foot. She seems to be alright today. Look on W & W and look at the way she has her foot hanging down.
I messed up. My grandchildren live here in Lancaster, and I get to see them just about every day. I am so blessed. I meant that we'll all miss Hidey when she's gone. And that must have been a huge fish they are having for dinner. Love, Gwen
Gotcha, Gwen. We will surely all miss Hidey when she fledges.
Wanda & Gene - there is nothing wrong with Belle's foot. That is a normal position. Eagles can stand on one foot and rest the other, much like we see the one legged osprey do so at BWO.
Speaking of which...eggs should be hatching there soon!
Was out watering, and it started sprinkling.
I agree with Paula, and I checked a few other pictures just to be sure. In most of the pictures she has both talons on the branch.
Thanks, Paula. Didn't know that.
Mits - Brensin learned early that an ear piercing scream got him attention and whatever he wanted...thank goodness he has stopped doing that!
So you learned something new today, Wanda! That was a great pic, I forgot to mention that! :)
I also saw Hidey doing it earlier this afternoon, perched at the back of the nest.
Oh, I forgot to mention I saw my first indigo bunting yesterday at the park...and I got a pic!
I turned the cam off for now, trying to work on pictures!
It IS amazing, Paula, I learn something new almost every day on here:) The older I get, the smarter I get;)
Hi all! Can't stay but wanted to wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day and a prayer of thanks to those who gave all for our great country.... and, a Happy MemorEagle Day! Deb, your most recent photos are SUPER. Wonderful shot of the Oriole!
It is amazing how much you learn on here.
Spidey is making an appearance.
Guess who?!
wow, that looked like moth antenae on the camera, but where is Hidey? I can't see her
Lynne 2, I think that was Spidey's leg. Hidey is hiding somewhere...living up to his name;)
oh yeah, thanks Wanda I can see it's Spidey now. And Hidey sure is living up to his name! he is still there, right...?
You may be right, Lynne...it doesn't look quite like Spidey.
There is Hidey at 3:00 position.
I try to spot the Feet or the Beak!
Took me awhile to find her!
Thanks, Wanda, I put pictures from today, Marindahl Lake, and Saturday, Bacon Creek Park, on Deb's Photo's.
I think Hidey is at 2:00 o'clock, I just saw some movement there.
I think Hidey is at the 4-5 o'clock position.
Mits, I had a G&T in the Eagle Express for you!
Saw a preview of a new fall show...NCIS California or Los Angeles, or something like that!
It is really SPIDEY!
Hidey is at 2 o'clock standing on the edge of the nest. Gave me a fright to see the nest empty but then I saw her eye blink!
lol At least we all agree that Hidey is on the right-hand side of the nest anywhere between 2 - 5:00 position.
I'll go for 2:30 position!
Lynn, sounds great...anything that would be a spin-off of NCIS would get my attention;)
Ok, I saw the glint of an eye at 2 o'clock! whew! Now I've got to run so goodnight everyone!
Nite, Lynne.
Awww, the loon is all stretched out on the nest! REALLY LEAVING this time...bye!
I hadn't seen BONES
BBL
We only got a few sprinkles...back out to water!
I am glad we all have the right side of the nest, too! Hidey moves every once in awhile, otherwise it is hard to find her.
well , plumb tuckered out here....so good night everyone...thanks Lynn for the g&t...:)
Nite, Helen.
G'nite, Mits! Get rested!!
Nite Mits!
Wanda - on our NCIS regular show tomorrow, we should have one or more to go. Zeva is being tortured by her father's command.
They need to save her!!!!!
I see Hidey's feet at 3:00.....
In fact she just moved them...
There are car lights beyond the nest over on the road...
OK, Jo, good to know it is not a rerun. Love that show. We taped a few episodes, but decided to just watch the reruns.
Jo, did you watch the Snake video...if so, did you hear Michael's commentary about catching snakes and selling them for a dollar when he was a child, I guess?
Posted my baby robins to my blog!
Now to work on adding Sat. pics to our album.
NCIS season finale was last week.
Tomorrow is a rerun.
Well, I got my pics uploaded to Picasa...still have to add captions...will do that tomorrow, slam wore out again!
Gnite, all.
Hugs to all ♥
Lynn, the baby robins are so cute!
I wish I knew what was making that noise on our cam - I need to close it down so then I wouldn't hear it & wouldn't wonder about it.
Thanks, Deb...a bit frumpy, aren't they? LOL! Going to look at your pics now.
I am off to bed, Night everyone!
Wonderful shots, Deb! Tell that Oriole to go home to Baltimore where he belongs!!!! We saw one at NCTC, too....but heard him first and by the time I found him in the foliage,he took off....don't know whether anyone else got a shot or not.
Lynn, you are right, that is what makes them so cute! :)
Wanda and Margy got pictures that I know of. We have lots of Baltimore and Orchard Orioles around here.
Night!
What kind of noise is Hidey making?
Nite-nite, Deb. Back to work tomorrow, I guess....boo!
Don't have cam up, Lolly....last couple of days people have talked about "puppy" noises, but I haven't been tuned in at the right time to hear it!
I can not even see him and it was a funny sound.
I heard that too, Lolly. Saw no movement and still don't see Hidey. Maybe he was having a nightmare.
Glad that you heard it Wanda. It was strange, wasn't it?
It sure was strange. I was sitting here paying bills and it really got my attention. I thought the stress of paying bills was escaping from my mouth:)
Lolly how is your NEW KNEE working for you?
What I heard earlier was like a knocking noise. I have sound turned off now. I thought it was at the mic..
Hidey had been at 3:00 most of the evening.
I best go to bed...GeeGee has an abdominal CT scan scheduled in the morning. Poor thing, she has had everything but her toes scanned this year:(

Well, I hope Hidey's perching stick is embedded good in the nest because you can see her tail through the space underneath it.

DEB---Must ask---are your arms sore from yesterday's kayaking!!---I KNOW YOU ALL HAD FUN!!!
*****BREAKING NEWS*******
The loon just got off the nest and there is a definite HOLE in the end of the egg!
AND there is definitely MOVEMENT inside that egg!
WE HAVE AT LEAST ONE CHICK THAT IS TRYING TO MAKE ITS WAY INTO THE WORLD!!
guess I'll be Loon watching today:)
Good rainy morning all! Sure hope Hidey doesn't choose today to try to fly the coop---he'll be weighted down by wet wings!
Hey, Megan....you don't have to water today (except maybe in the GH!).
Flood watches listed for lots of metro areas....be careful out there.
They were a little soar yesterday, Norma. We had to paddle into the wind all the way back to the dock.
LARRY predicted it would HATCH today!!
soar=sore, oops! The lake isn't that big, so we didn't have to go far, but it seemed like every stroke forward, the wind sent you back 1/2 stroke.
putting the loon cam on full screen, makes you feel like you are sitting right in the nest;)
WHOA! DEB!---I got your drift!!--ho!
big day for PA eyasses tomorrow....
On Wednesday, May 27th, the Dept. of Environmental Protection and the Pennsylvania Game Commission will host the annual Peregrine Falcon Banding Event at the Rachel Carson State Office Building in Harrisburg, PA from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. Teachers and their students, non-formal educators and youth organizations are invited to attend this event. Activities will include the weighing, examination and banding of the nestlings. There is no cost to attend the banding event.
Good Morning All!

Oh My Goodness - Sharon I see what you mean about the perch Hidey has chosen!
Good one, Norma!
Helen, full screen is great with the loon, you can watch the feathers move with each breath. I hadn't ever gone to full screen there.
I was wondering if she is looking for her mate----Haven't seen him for a while---

Mits, you are a mind reader! I was just getting ready to ask for the link!
SISSY---You will love this site!!---When little one is born---he starts riding on Dad's back---so COOL!
That is exactly the bird we keep seeing at the lake, can swim forever under water! We were just in awe of it!
Hidey starting to exercise those wings!
SISSY----It is the COMMON LOON!---I thought you knew that----because I remembered you had mentioned you had this same loon at your lake!!
COOL!!!
If she would fly out while flapping those wings crazy-like, I am pretty sure that would be an unintentional flight.
I agree with that, Sharon.
Did Hidey just find the 'leftovers' or was it new food. I was watching the loon.
yes, isn't it to early to fledge at 10 weeks, doesn't even look ready to me.
loon is going to drive us looney today, evey time I look it is just sitting there.
Right Norma, but I didn't realize that is the same kind ya'll have been watching! Very cool!!
