Hi from Hedgesville, too, where it is also quite cold and windy and cloudy. Nice story about the pelican...hope it CAN re-adapt to the wild. Seems to me it would be better to take it to a sanctuary or zoo. Sharon, how are you feeling? Can you feel anything from the "vac" set-up? Did Andrew get home from his girlfriends? Not to worry about school calendar, SIssy....until they change the law--hopefully soon if Manchin has his way--they can't go beyond june 7th!
Howdy Howdy Norma, I know you have been "back" for a few days, but I have been MIA during the daytime and could only catch up with you "after hours..."
Well, the florist just called. Somebody sent me flowers and the hill is too bad to get them to me. I told them maybe in a little while! YEAH - FLOWERS!!!
Megan Yes, did see this, on your email....Thanks! Unfortunately, I am going to be in Annandale VA, with NO Horizon...but will keep all the other info tagged and might catch a sighting somewhere, somehow... ☺
Well, ok, Sharon- you tell that florist to get on her boots or snowshoes and hike those flowers up the hill.... Darn, Margy, I am gonna try to check out the skies.
Well, folks, I have to start getting things ready here, am going to Annandale Va, to visit an older sister, then we will head over to Ruxton, Md (not far from Baltimore)Tuesday to visit our oldest sister...will be passing through Washington and Frederick County so I will holler at ya' Megan and Jo! Hope I don't get a white out on the interstate passing through. Mits - thanks for the weather forecast... Will check in one time before I leave around noon, then will not be back until sometime last Tuesday night.... How are we looking for Thursday Lunch Bunch ?? ☺
Jo, I haven't been up in PA on the interstates in a long time, but remember when the days when their rest stops were nothing more than pull-off areas w/out even a port-a-pot---the turnpike was the only place that had amenities!
Sharon, how nice to get flowers...IF you get the flowers!! I agree...tell her to hike! Remember one time after a three foot blizzard when we waited a week for the big equipment to come in from Romney to open our road, and it was only what we called a pig-path...not big enough for more than a single vehicle...the UPS man walked in 1 1/2 mi. to deliver a model airplane to a neighbor! That's above and beyond. Would never happen in this day and age!
HEY HEDGIE!!--I remember those restroom days!!-----WAY BACK---preg. & had to stop every other mile!!---I still remember a park near ELKINS---had an outside JOHN-----Would make BILL stand out side door!----AFRAID OF SNAKES!!---ho!
Hedgie - when I traveled thru PA on Rt 81 they had very nice rest stop facilities for travelers. The rest rooms were very clean and the snack/drink machines were always filled. PA is such a long state to go thru that I appreciated those things.
I just thought!!-----MARGY won't get to visit with anyone!!----She will have her head out the window---WAVING---WAVING to everyone!!--ho!! She is so CUTE!!-----ho!
Jo, it was back in '84 that we went up 81 as far as it goes....and in PA there were no facilities! And many small towns w/ no fast-food places...just grimy gas stations!
Good morning eagle friends!!! Guess what...I am back up at Laurel's. I was due back up here but later in the day, but I was up at 5:30 this morning (Ohhhh!!!) to drive up here. Laurel is in Arizona til Thursday at a reading workshop. She called at 10:30 last night(scaring me to death). She had driven one car to a friends house and left it there and she had both set of keys for the minivan in her purse. Joey could not get the kids to school or make a 10:30 meeting this morning. Grandmommy to the rescue! Boy, does she owe me!
I still had company at the house, but they were leaving this morning. We had a great visit.
So, NORMA, I followed your directions and hugged a child this morning...even kissed a couple. :)
Monday, February 23 As I’m sure some of you have heard or noticed, Yang is entering breeding season and Xi Lan has become more active in the dayroom. This created an interesting situation this morning. In breeding season, males go on long walking bouts, which we describe as “locomoting.” During this time, Yang wanders all over his exhibit, from corner to corner, occasionally passing by the glass between the habitat and the dayroom. While I was watching Xi Lan play on top of his structure, I noticed right at the moment that Yang passed by the glass, Xi Lan stopped and stared. His facial expression was literally, “Who is that?”
In the wild, male adult pandas generally wouldn't come across their offspring. Mothers are very protective and will keep their cubs away from any other adult giant panda. Xi Lan didn’t get down from the structure, but instead stayed and watched Yang walk for a bit more. After a minute or two, Xi Lan became bored with Yang’s locomoting behaviors and continued to play on the wooden structure like a kid on a jungle gym. Caroline Jones Carnivore Seasonal Keeper

Well, have found out from the computer whiz at daughters' bank, that I am not doing anything wrong with this wireless router. He says that PC is not configured for wireless w/o getting an adaptor. However, I can hook up laptop by itself and just not be able to get online with PC until I get the adaptor! So, after I clean out the woodstove and get the fire going again, I am going to shut down PC, hook up the router and try the laptop! Wish me luck, friends!!!
Sounds about right, Hedgie. I don't have the wireless myself, but a couple of days ago I was configuring a new desktop on-line to see how much it would cost. And one the major configuration sections was on wireless boards (or cards).
I don't think the board costs too much if you have an electronics supply place near you.
If you are going to use the puter for your TV (as in entertainment center), it's got to be configured for that too.
P.S. Even with discount, the total was enough to make me think about it for awhile.
My computer is getting to the age where you might think "it's time," but I replaced a cooling fan about a year and a half ago, and the puter just keeps on truckin'.
"Should I get a newer, faster one now.............??" That's the question I'm asking myself.
Thanks, Jim. Megan, my PC is a 2007 model HP...I got it in Feb. of 2008. (Notice in config stuff that it was loaded in spring of '07. This guy was the one who came and moved everything over from my old one, so GUESS he remembers what it has/hasn't. Well, here goes.........bye for now!
That's right, Megan. It all depends on the level of machine you got. Some are configured for about everything at the factory, but some are less fully enabled to cut costs and the retail price of the basic computer.
And of course, older ones like mine were lucky to have heard of the TV card when they were made.
If anybody is getting a new one, make sure it has more than enough RAM (more than you think you will need). Everything is using a lot of resources now. Even your basic Windows will use twice as much as the one before. AND we are all using a lot of graphics on these nestcams, which uses a lot more RAM. It's cheaper to have it added when you buy it, and although it's easy to install if you're the type to get inside the machine at all, many don't want to do anything of that kind.
I'm back...but no laptop connection. Argh. Must just be that I'm too dumb! Any suggestions, Megan? Maybe a lobotomy? Sissy, I bet Mattie is having loads of fun! LOL. Bathing one is enough for me! Does your little Buddy like bathtime?
Hedgie - I will let you know if Aaron is coming with me on Thursday & if he is I am sure he would be able to give you a solution to your laptop problem
Yes he did, Sharon! I am tired of checking the back door on cold winter nights at 2am or 4am! He is really a lovey dovey! He is only a yr old so the vet said & he weighs 10 lbs.
Well, they came to deliver my flowers and I had went to Sissy's. Then they said they couldn't get back up the hill and would deliver them tomorrow. I am going over there when Andrew gets home from school and get my flowers! Don't want to wait another day!
Sure have been missing Ceil! Wonder why she didn't keep her old computer hooked up until the new one was up/running. I am anxious to see if she likes the new one once she uses it a while.
Sharon, my heart's darling, I was thinking about you, too. I hear our Andrew has a girl friend. I am so excited. Does she meet our approval, because Andrew is such a fine young man. love donna
doesn't want to hook up the new one til she sees what is wrong with the old one..it was working for her son out in Oregon...she said it is a touch screen????
she went to the office Sat and Sun to see if she could at least clear out her emails, but the office computer was down...they have comcast, she can't win.
Yes, Megan...disc takes it to Wizard setup, which Hughesnet guy says I don't need, because Wizard is built into Windows. The Instructions part is about 60 pages long, and most is Greek to me.....will look through it again...but not holding my breath.
I can tell that my poor typing ability will be even worse with the laptop....it is SO small--it's a mini! It's like learning how to type all over again.
Sissy, you will be getting cute doxie email! How 'bout a pic of Buddy in his sweater!
Way to go, Sharon!!! Should have left a note on your door!
Yes, Jo...will get some words of wisdom from Aaron! Daughter's co-worker will come, but he wants me to get that other part first. So will go back to Office Max after our Thursday fun!
I just got an update on my uncle. His weekend home visit went well. The widened doors and ramps worked well. The only problem is my aunt getting the wheelchair in and out of the car. I suggested putting the creative minds of my cousins to work and design a way so she doesn't have to lift the chair.
Alas, this might be the first day of total separation of ZZ from Bai.
A few minutes ago they had camera C11 (not listed yet) indoors on ZZ eating fresh bamboo. And I recalled the blog had said that last week was the last step (75% separation).
I say "alas" because they are still so happy and playful when they are together. But obviously their lives must move on, and Bai may bear another little bear this year.
Anyway, I think ZZ is starting her life as a solitary Panda today..
A pair of bald eagles is loving life near the runways of Martin State Airport in Essex. But it's not the safest scenario, for pilots or the birds. So the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is evicting them.
Biologists plan to remove the nest and the tree limbs that support it on Tuesday. Craig Koppie of the Fish and Wildlife Service's Chesapeake Bay Field Office says because it's early in the nesting season, the eagles will have time to build a new nest or move to one they've used before.
A Fish and Wildlife Service spokeswoman says if the eagles have laid eggs already, the eggs will have to be destroyed. The agency has the authority to remove the nest and any eggs.
Bald eagles are protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act of 1940 but are no longer listed as a threatened species.
for some reason, this does not seem right to me, can't they wait, that is not the busiest airport around.
I'm not sure why SD is making such a big deal about this, must be they want the publicity, pandas are solitary animals, in the wild this would have happened long agao.
They should have adressed that issue as soon as they saw the eagles at the nest, so there would be no chance of eggs already there. Hope they have not laid any in the nest yet.
Aw, Jim, that seems sad, even tho' a necessary part of life.
Sissy, what a cute sweater...with a cute weiner in it!!!
Mits.....what's the difference? I don't see anything that specifically says one or the other, but the book says "Inspiron Ultra Mobile Device".....duh!!!
Good afternoon. I am watching eagle cams almost to my hearts content. Maybe I already have one too many up. Couldn't get our live feed so settled or still but lost it too. Anyone else having cam problems?
can't remember the name of the guy I had a fight with about this, someone in MD, who was not concerned about a dead eagle or two....sure he has his grubby little hands in this.
I just can't wrap my head around it, first you save them, then you destroy them....going to check and see if there is anything online at Baltimore TV stations....and another thing, they don't have time to rebuild a nest and lay eggs this year!grrrrrrr:(
you know if we know this stuff, they know it, there is an article in USA Today about it....as I surf the web, other states have done this too, including destroying chicks...

Hey Margy- did you see this?
COSMIC COINCIDENCE: What are the odds? On Tuesday, Feb. 24th, Saturn and Comet Lulin will converge in the constellation Leo only 2 degrees apart. Both our nest.
I am so jealous of ya'll getting to go to the nest this week!!
HELEN---I am glad you mentioned the FREEZE----I have had that too many times this am!!!!
Switch and an egg roll...
Just discovered BLACKWATER is "blue"!------
Belle back on duty :)
YO Norma, my BW was a pretty shade of red earlier!
MORNIN' HANDSOME JIM!!----How's your weather???---I am still in the 20s!---Hasn't warmed up much?---ho!
PAULA!----I noticed earlier---The MD WOMEN beat DUKE yesterday!!
77--59!
HEDGIE----I WISH YOU LOTS OF LUCK!!!!----YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!---I couldn't do that if my life depended on it!!
Mornin, Norma...it's about 60° with some light rain this morning in So Cal.
Not too bad... And I "think" it's going to get better this afternoon.

Jim
That temp sounds good to me!!---ENJOY YOUR "WARM" DAY!! ho!

Jim
SISSY!!----I AGREE!!---Maybe we can go next time & we can take SHARON too!!!
IS it an older computer? I bought a wireless router for mine and hooked it right up, I didn't need anything extra.
My computer is getting to the age where you might think "it's time," but I replaced a cooling fan about a year and a half ago, and the puter just keeps on truckin'.
"Should I get a newer, faster one now.............??" That's the question I'm asking myself.

Nice glimpse of the eggs...
lol...missed them again:)

That Norfolk cam is making me seasick!

Good afternoon dear ones, I pray everyone is well and happy to eagle watch. mauley donna
Hello Big Sis!! I was just thinking about you today. How are you?
Both eagles, our nest!!
What a regal couple they are!!
Mattie is bathing dogs, wet weenie dogs everywhere!!
Wowsie Wowsie Wowsie
Just return from Vet - Picked up Marvin
Both in nest for me to see
You know, I was just thinking about last week when we were blogging from the ER. That was just really too cool!
Oh Yeah! That was too cool and I pray
it never happens again! Great for an ER show though, wouldn't it be! lol
yeah, we want to do that again....NOT!
hello, Donna:)
One eagle in our nest
I'm back...but no laptop connection. Argh. Must just be that I'm too dumb! Any suggestions, Megan? Maybe a lobotomy?
Sissy, I bet Mattie is having loads of fun! LOL. Bathing one is enough for me! Does your little Buddy like bathtime?
MAINE #1 cam back up, snowing.
can hear the eagles calling at MAINE.
Doesn't it have installation book or disc that takes you through step by step, Lynn?
Hedgie - I will let you know if Aaron is coming with me on Thursday & if he is I
am sure he would be able to give you a solution to your laptop problem
Poor Marvin. Had his masculinity removed! :)
LOL.. had to go back to see who Marvin was, and if he needed a get well card:)
poor Ceil is still having computer issues:(
Yes he did, Sharon! I am tired of checking the back door on cold winter nights at 2am or 4am! He is really a lovey dovey!
He is only a yr old so the vet said & he weighs 10 lbs.
That is funny.
I am anxious to see if she
likes the new one once she uses it a while.
Sharon, my heart's darling, I was thinking about you, too. I hear our Andrew has a girl friend. I am so excited. Does she meet our approval, because Andrew is such a fine young man. love donna
IS it still a Verizon issue with Ceil?
old computer is still up, Verizon does not know what is wrong with it, they have not been any help...said they would call her back today.
doesn't want to hook up the new one til she sees what is wrong with the old one..it was working for her son out in Oregon...she said it is a touch screen????
yes, Megan she thinks so, I told her to hook up the new one, it could just be her old puter...
I guess the "touch screen" is going to be something once you get use to it!
I am waiting to get the "voice control"
I just can't imagine all these
advances... Advances that I'll never
be able to adapt to!
Me and Mattie really want a touch screen!!
Buddy is the funniest little dog. He still doesn't have much hair, so we bought him a sweater. He loves it, wears it all the time!!
I'm darn lucky I know where the on button is:)
Maine 1 cam is back on.
she went to the office Sat and Sun to see if she could at least clear out her emails, but the office computer was down...they have comcast, she can't win.
I am taking a break
Have to dream up some dinner
Also I am paying a few "early in the month of March' bills....
BBL
Red-tailed Hawk nest in Tulsa, OK, home of Jay and Kay. They were both there earlier today.
Oops, guess the link would help!
Jay and Kay
Lynn, is it a laptop, or notebook?
thanks for the red-tail link, Deb.
Tai Shan looks plumb tuckered out:)
Buddy is now posted!!
awww, isn't that cute:)
I just got an update on my uncle. His weekend home visit went well. The widened doors and ramps worked well. The only problem is my aunt getting the wheelchair in and out of the car. I suggested putting the creative minds of my cousins to work and design a way so she doesn't have to lift the chair.
glad the visit went well:)
Cute pic, Sissy. I am still LOL at the thought of all those wet weenie dogs running around!
She even bathed the cat!!
She is bucking for some money!
That sweater is sooo cute on Buddy:)

Oh Jim, that is so sad!! I hate that process!!
Lynn- you have mail.
ESSEX, Md. (AP) -
A pair of bald eagles is loving life near the runways of Martin State Airport in Essex.
That is wrong Mits!!! I don't understand why, if there are eggs, they can't wait until they fledge!!
I thought notebooks where the smaller ones, my lap-top is pretty big.
Good afternoon. I am watching eagle cams almost to my hearts content. Maybe I already have one too many up. Couldn't get our live feed so settled or still but lost it too. Anyone else having cam problems?
can't remember the name of the guy I had a fight with about this, someone in MD, who was not concerned about a dead eagle or two....sure he has his grubby little hands in this.
no problems here.
Can we start a protest, if there are eggs???? That's just not right. You're right, Mits, it's not like it's BWI or Reagan or Dulles!
ok thanks Mits guess that means its time to reboot. And the eagle situation at Essex is a stinkin crime!!!!
and it is not like they have just found out about it either,,,jmho, some people are just plain stupid.
This is 9x7...has a lid....whatever it is, it's portable, and charges/recharges w/ a plug and cord!!! LOL!
I just can't wrap my head around it, first you save them, then you destroy them....going to check and see if there is anything online at Baltimore TV stations....and another thing, they don't have time to rebuild a nest and lay eggs this year!grrrrrrr:(
just finding the same story on some TV stations, no videos, but I guess like the article says....this is Fish and Wildlife's call:(....
Wonder what NCTC's feeling on this is? Steve...???? Care to comment?
They should have done that last fall...there isn't any time to build a nest for this season...
you know if we know this stuff, they know it, there is an article in USA Today about it....as I surf the web, other states have done this too, including destroying chicks...
eagle landing our nest
BOTH -our nest!
night shift coming on
And a switch- eagle on eggs flew out.
Hedgie - you have a 'notebook' computer. They are smaller than the laptops.
Eagle in Maine 1 nest.
I think it is stuck at Maine 1, no movement and lots of wind noise. Stuck with a pretty eagle sitting there.
that 's what I thought it sounded like, a notebook, I see people use them on the planes alot, take up much less space.
my Maine is moving.
still snowing and eagle is calling
beautiful site:)
My picture is unstuck now, snow coming down.
poof in Maine
Darn, just gets to working and off goes the eagle.
It is snowing in OR, too.
