The roof of the Super Walmart in Spearfish collapsed today-too much snow on top. Dumb thing is, this is the second time it has happened. After the first time, wouldn't you check the roof after a heavy snow. Luckily, since it happened before, they recognized the sounds and evacuated the building, so no one was hurt.
Deb, terrible, but yes, stupid, too!!! At our newer GM building here, there was a certain amount of "play" built into the roof....they ran a chain across the width, and if the sag reached the chain they were to evacuate. In the meantime, guys were up on the roof w/ snowblowers. Duh!!!Seems to be flat roofs should not be allowed anyplace where there's snow, and probably not in high-rain areas, either!
Thursday November 14, 2008 Midnight and Rocket have spent this week flapping their wings, hanging out on the perch and venturing out as far as they dare. Midnight took his adventure further this afternoon and sat on the railing of the water tower for a couple of hours leaving Rocket home alone in the nest box. Midnight returned safely at 16:30 EDST.
Cloudy here tonite- too bad cause it's a full moon nite. Not sure I like this one..Full Beaver Moon - November This was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. Another interpretation suggests that the name Full Beaver Moon comes from the fact that the beavers are now actively preparing for winter. It is sometimes also referred to as the Frosty Moon.
Hedgie, I had that yakkity yak once, but usually I shut the cam site down once a day anyway and haven't been bothered with it since...Once they were "testing" the midrophone, you know, "Hello Hello, is this thing working?"
The Memorial Service for the friend of my family's, (which is where I have been this afternoon plus dinner at one of the relatives) was superbly done. Soulful, touching, but encouraging, comforting, and hopeful. The young man was an avid outdoorsman, and lived in Hardy County (next one west from Norma's county) in an area which sometimes has Eagles flying in on one of the ridges. Psalms 89, 121, 139 and 23, plus remembrances by family and friends, a few songs, (Including "The West Virginia Hill" and Go Rest High on that Mountain") and a very encouraging and comforting presentation by the lady pastor. Also lots of photos and photo albums, and a set of hunting clothing with a Bow, set out. It was the way the young man would have wanted to be remembered.
Thanks again for your prayers on this one for us, friends.
NatureNut Loretta is busy getting ready for Grand-Daughter's wedding this week-end. Her daughter and son-in-law are flying in Friday....Loretta is NOT working Friday.
Hi, Margy... Gene was at the funeral home this evening, too. Did you know Donnie Krause? There was an Elks ritual service, which Gene was a part of, and he said it was very impressive.
I sure hope they didn't send her home, I know she wasn't ready to be released. When you are in so much pain, you want to be in the hospital where they can take care of you if something goes wrong.
JIM..the report on ZZ was interesting. I have't had the time to follow her progress for a long time. I do remember the joy that she brought us last year, and now we have little Luney to keep us entertained until our Flying Mountaineer start a new family. Oh, we are soooo lucky to have this blog and these wonderful cams.
Well, I'm bushed! Family all day can make a tired gal - it's such a great feeling. Don't think Sharon went home - She was walking about 3 times down the hall throughout the day. I had talked with her around 4:00 - sounded great and her appetite was picking up for some real food. Thelma was with her. Sissy made it home - Doug's viewing was this evening with services tomorrow. Beverly and Sharon are both very strong willed women. Very proud to know them & I bet Mattie grows up to be just like them!
JO - It sure looks like a piece of camera equipment to me....or the housing for same. The view DOES look a little better tonight, like it has been adjusted from early this morning...but maybe just because it's dark out now.
Glad you had such a good day...that's a good kind of exhaustion, family fun...lots of hugs and loving I bet...
At first I thought someone threw down an empty pack of cigarettes - decided it was too large for that. I think Margy mentioned it could be a piece off of the cam when it was aiming sky high up into the trees earlier today.
Jo, go to your PROFILE page and click on HELP at the bottom of the page. That should tell you everything you need to know to get started. It is fun having your own blog. Just let me know if I can help you with anything.
Wanted to jump on tonight and say hello. We just got hope. I wish there was a way to describe Doug's wake tonight. It was really something. There were people in line for over 3 hours to pay their respects. The man that owns the funeral home said he had never in all his years seen such a sight. Mattie said she hopes hers is like that and I told it can be. If we live our lives the way Doug lived his, it would be. He gave of himself in ways we didn't even know. It was so beautiful. We are wore out and have to hit it running again in the morning.
Thanks for the love and prayers ya'll have been sending our way. We are certainly feeling them.
Sharon is hurting a bit tonight, trying to step down on her meds. Seems a bit soon to me but I am not the doctors. Told her to make them help her if she couldn't stand it.
I did have to reboot to get rid of that irritation!! Hey, Margy, sounds like it was a meaningful gathering. Who hosted the dinner? I knew Donnie Krause (from ex working w/ him on base). He was a nice man. It has been quite a week. Sadness, but also praises to God for good news, too. My friend has had her brain biopsy postponed...some of the drs. are still leaning toward a stroke and want to hold off on invasive procedure another month. Believe me, if it should happen to turn out to be malignancy whenever they decide to do it...I will tell her hubby what he needs to do about it! Prayers for a successful surgery and rapid healing for Wanda's girl!
Thanks Lynn, doctors decided not to remove the whole cyst, they just cleaned out the infection and packed it. She must keep it scrupulously clean for it to heal properly. Don't know why they didn't go on and remove the whole thing and get it over with.
SISSY...you know the Lord will hold you up when you feel you can no longer do it yourself IN MY DISTRESS I CRIED UNTO THE LORD, AND HE HEARD ME. PSALM 120:1
Been watching Grey's and ER and reworking old videos ... taking out any text I added and will send them back to Sandy so she can do a teaching video with them...
So I can't watch anything else online while they are processing....
So, I'll catch ya'll tomorrow...maybe! Got a couple more videos to finish...
Sissy, know that we will all be with you and Tom and the rest of his family tomorrow. Look to the skies....maybe an eagle will soar overhead, carrying Doug's spirit to the Father in the great beyond. I hope Mrs. Riffe holds up...I know how much more difficult her situation is going to be for you. Love and hugs.♥♥
Heading to the tub. Gotta set alarm for 6...Mr. Bill coming to put the finishing touches on the leaf removal...am going to fix him a bacon&cheese omelet and some cinnamon rolls! Aren't I sweet?? LOL. Peaceful rest for all. May God bless us every one.
GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE... We have a severe fog alert here in Martinsburg/Shepherdstown with temps of 48°. Hope Lib and Belle can find their nest through the fog.
Pix PA looks a little better this morning, better cam angle...can't wait to see when/how that black box disappears....almost looks now like a charger for something, camera maybe? Squirrels on the plains... xo
Margy on the deer cam early yesterday morning. There was a flat black box. Turkey's were eating I think corn out of it. It was funny though it looked like someone dropped a billfold open.

What is really hard to believe is they have had a whole week to get the snow off, and it doesn't sound like anyone even thought to check it.

Yes, I am going with the neo pagan name- tree moon- it seems to fit here ..

Doesn't work, Mits!!! They won't hush up!!!
Dave, great shots. I love the eagle in flight that looks like he is looking right at you.

Hi, Margy...
Gene was at the funeral home this evening, too. Did you know Donnie Krause? There was an Elks ritual service, which Gene was a part of, and he said it was very impressive.
We haven't heard from Sharon since this morning...or maybe I missed her.
I sure hope they didn't send her home, I know she wasn't ready to be released. When you are in so much pain, you want to be in the hospital where they can take care of you if something goes wrong.
Hi Wanda - I think Sharon was on for awhile this early afternoon...we were all trying to put her back to bed! Guess she took our advice.
I did not know Donnie Krause, but read the obituary and saw that he was a prominent man....I left Brown's around 5:45.
xo
Sharon had a message at 1:53 PM Wanda.
I'm off to bed now.
JIM..the report on ZZ was interesting. I have't had the time to follow her progress for a long time. Prayerful thoughts for the Riffe Family tonight, Tom's brother's services are Friday.
Heaven has increased its population with some fine people this past week.....and we must know they are watching over us...
Thanks, Red, sleep well.
Tom's brother's Obituary
What a very large family he was a part of....
Margy I am anxious to see when the item on the ground in the PA woods disappears.
Can anyone guess what it is??????
Jo, Mattie has two excellent role models in her life. She WILL grow up to be a fine young lady.
Luney is really stretching out!
A chocolate fudgecicle??
A molasses block (like a salt lick)?
It was good to see IN DAVE on a good bit today.. Has his DSL I think.
Wanda - was it difficult to set up your Wanda's Wishes blog site?
I really do need to start one.
Thanks for the update on Sharon
At first I thought someone threw down an empty pack of cigarettes - decided it was too large for that.
I think Margy mentioned it could be a piece off of the cam when it was
aiming sky high up into the trees earlier today.
Not at all, Jo. I have Picasa to help me along. Don't know how to do it without Picasa.
The deet is back on the snowman cam
So pretty! It's like you want to reach out and scratch the deet's back
Ok the herd is moving in.........
I have to get dressed for bed...

No, Thelma didn't stay tonight. She has to work in the morning. She is planning on going up there after work tomorrow.
Was just about to hit the "x" and saw Sissy had been on.
Thanks for giving us an update!!!

SISSY, blessing for you and you family today. God loves you and so do we.

someone dropped a billfold open.
Helen...sorry ;(
