And check out this wonderful news!!!

Sandi posted this on NBG this morning
Received from WCV at 6:55 am
Norfolk Botanical Garden Eagle Update
8:00 p.m. July 26, 2008

This report was filed by Dr. Natalie Hall:

This evening the eagle is still stable, and he is eating on his own without assistance now – for the first time since he was admitted! We are still giving him a "chop" plate, but he ate eagerly this morning without having to be hand-fed. He is also very energetic today and has been strolling around his enclosure a lot. So, at this time, he appears to be improving!

magpie said...

That's Wonderful News about Buddy...those folks down there must be encouraged, finally!

Thanks for posting it, PAULA.

deb said...

Good Morning, everyone. I am all caught up and was thrilled to read about Buddy. What wonderful news!!

magpie said...

DEB: Good Morning! What time did you have to get up this morning to get "all caught up?" It takes awhile doesn't it? But it sure is fun!

Back to what I am supposed to be doing....

magpie said...

Wish I had seen that food delivery to Delta Dawn! I guess I was cam-hopping when it happened....

deb said...

I got up at 8, but didn't get on here until about 9:30. A lazy Sunday morning here.

Mema Jo said...

Good Late Morning Good to wake up and see those beautiful flowers. Had I not gone back to sleep at 7am - I would have been to market and home! I guess it is the thought that counts.
GO BUDDY GO I think being in an outside environment with other eagles around will help him!
It rained here around 6pm but it could have rained later throughout the night - it was only for a half hour or so.
I need to read previous thread -
Thanks Steve for the new thread.
Now all we need are some eagles in our nest

Mema Jo said...

I think I may have missed all the sailboats - it is sorta late in the day at Finny on the water.

I did see the 2 youngun's yesterday standing right there with the adults.
They are getting large

BROKAW!!!

Mema Jo said...

Newscaster, Deb

At first I thought Norma was looking at turkeys in PA woods You know Tom's & hen's lol

deb said...

Ok, now I get it. I forget he is hosting the talk show now. I usually watch Sunday Morning show and then turn off the TV, but I didn't even turn it on today.

Mema Jo said...

Norma - Naturenut found your comment about HATCHING on June 22 thread.
It was when you were giving us news about the BIRTH of the 2 red pandas at another zoo and that their dad was from the DC Zoo!

NO MORE TALK ABOUT PANDAS HATCHING

lol Wanda remembered more then what she remembered she did.

paula eagleholic said...

LOL, I was thinking of Tom Turkey also! Forgot Brokaw was from SD!!

deb said...

That's where I went to Jo. I couldn't figure out how a turkey was my cousin!!

Mema Jo said...

Well a noon time storm is brewing.
Thunder all around...came up quickly.

hedgie said...

Good afternoon!! Sounds like everyone's day is off to a good start. Good Buddy and Delta Dan news. Wish we could see our eagles!!

NatureNut said...

Good grief, Jo...more rain for you? We never got a drop last night from any of the other storms..guess they didn't get this far, but we got slammed the other night.
We have relatives near Gatlinburg & good friend wants to move there after his Govt. retirement. I sent all of them the Dollywood Eagle story.

Mema Jo said...

The sky has opened and the rain is pouring down!

movin said...

I never knew Tom Brokaw came from the Dakotas, but I do remember him as a shiny-faced youngster doing the weather or something on KNBC-TV, Channel 4, in L.A.

...Maybe he did sports too, and then he worked his way up, until somebody at the network gave him a call.

magpie said...

I was on the turkey trail too, DEB...

Rain but no wind nor lightning I hope JO.

Mema Jo said...

Hedgie - are you getting any rain.
Our nest doesn't look as though it is getting wet.

OOPS! My still cam shows

July 27 which it is BUT

the timer has 9:05:42am

Mema Jo said...

We don't have any wind... just the down pour. Thanks for that info about WV weather, Magpie.

I have a 3:00 event in Hagerstown so
rain should be finished by the time I want to leave..... MAYBE even the Hum-I-Dity with have gone away!

magpie said...

I like Brokaw...remember how tough it was for him to report the Challenger disaster, he was pretty close to some or those astronauts, one of the gals in particular.

That was tough for everyone!

ISS is due to return to the skies LATER IN THE WEEK, angle might be kinda low, but the "view" is described as being 'VERY BRIGHT."

"Lacrosse 3" is some kind of unmanned "spy" satellite, and "Early Ammonia Server" is a discarded 1400 lb piece of junk tossed overboard off ISS when they did some renovations!

magpie said...

I think Delta Dawn really wants to get out of that nest!

Mema Jo said...

I spotted my typo Lynn after publishing! lol Other forums have an EDIT you can use after publishing to fix those little typos or remarks.
Wish we did!

Storm is coming up RT 15 at you, Paula.... lol Maybe good excuse for no mowing today!

magpie said...

Ooooooops! JO - That was MY WISHES for YOUR WEATHER: Rain but no wind nor lightning I hope..FOR YOU.....

Tom Brokaw is from Yankton, SD, which is where I go to see the eagles. He went to college here in Vermillion, which is my town now. I consider Sioux Falls to be my "hometown", I left there though in 1992. I was born in Colorado Springs, CO, and have lived in Oklahoma and Nebraska, too.

Eaglets in LW and BC.

hedgie said...

No, Jo, no rain yet, but mostly cloudy, and very humid. Storms to north and south...we may get hit, but for now, nothing!

Mema Jo said...

Well the sun is shinning brightly again as though it never left!
Was watching Ilsa's nest in Scotland
the cameraman was having fun by zooming in on a small bird who was investigating every inch of the nest.

Finally you can see the osprey chicks as they have grown...

magpie said...

So we have three eaglets we can watch right this minute, LW, BC and Delta...

magpie said...

I am so amazed that the egg at Loch Lowe's is still there....must be some kinda hard shell! Loch Garten having some problems, note on site said "Nethy might have chewed the connector." Not sure if they were kidding or not!

magpie said...

I should have checked first..Loch Garten IS back up and two birds on the nest right now ..sorry about that...
Better get back to my housework..

magpie said...

MEMA AND NORMA: I think that is an upside down turtle shell in Bartons Cove, up near "10 o'clock."

paula eagleholic said...

Jo - no rain here yet!

I see the pic is stuck now as well! Guess we are getting used to the MT nest...Waaaah!!!

paula eagleholic said...

Where is Mits today??

Mema Jo said...

MITS is still up with the M&M's.

No way would I think of going up into the BC nest - that tree is ready to topple! I'll get Sharon Feeney (ME Forum) to look under the tree! There also has to be some shells under our tree. We found skeletons of turtles but not shells.... Too ticky to look very well.

Going to get ready to travel....
Be back around dinner time......

paula eagleholic said...

Magpie - we found an egg in an osprey nest last year when we went banding...still whole...

magpie said...

Yes, Paula, I wonder about it all..
that last egg at Barton Cove stayed around for awhile, and I wonder of the 3rd egg is still in the nest at WildWatch Osrpey..
and I surely remember what happened to eggs #3 and 4 and NBG -
before Little Buddy came along !
I shoulda gone to be an Ornithologist !

Missing Dana and Candy this weekend; of course, Vicki and Chrissy, Anne Marie, Dave and Red, too! We know where the Bluefield girls are, but hope everyone else is okay!!

magpie said...

Barton Cove has a new cam view ... at least for now, maybe to try to show where the eaglet is going...

HEDGIE - I think Sunday must be traveling and visiting day, might do the same here myself...I hear the water balloons calling my name!

magpie said...

Loch Garten Chick all big and up close now..WELL HE WAS NOW HE HAS LEFT....they left the sound out when they re-did the cameras, miss that peeping!

magpie said...

DEB: I know it is hard work and this will sound strange: I wish I had a back and front yard to mow! It would mean I am not in an apartment in the city! (well, town..)
Be Careful, Stay Cool...
xoxo

deb said...

I don't mind mowing at all. I like being outside. What I don't like is when it is so humid, the sweat gets in your eyes. It stings!! I don't think I would like an apartment either.

Off to the front.

floralgirl said...

lol... careful what you wish for Magpie- my lawn needs mowing right now...come on over..

The storms missed us today, last night's was awful, lots of wind. don't see a lot of storms around us now, hopefully no more thunderstorms form.

Hope everyone is having a great Sunday- I'm off to mow the grass..

magpie said...

Yes, "10-4" that as we say at 9-1-1...BUT - I had yards to mow, it would mean I had gardens to tend to also! Flowers to pick, vegetables to eat, Bird feeders to hang, stars to REALLY gaze upon...but I am grateful that I am in a safe little place for now....

Good Afternoon and Evenings all..

xoxoxoxo Love you Guys.....

deb said...

I think the cam at BC got blown or knocked off kilter. Right now there is a big rain storm going on. I hope the tree didn't start to fall the rest of the way down.

deb said...

If you haven't checked out the Nova Scotia Osprey cam that Lisa posted, make sure you do. It is a good view and has one chick and one unhatched egg. The chick is pretty big already. I'll bring the link over.

wvgal_dana said...

Thank you EVERYONE for you comments, videos, links and pictures. I have finally gotten caught up to today.

I just opened the Novia Scotia in WMP. Mom as brought in a stick for chick. LOL I don't think that has made the chick very "happy" not "food" lol

Sounds like Sharon had a great time at DC Zoo with her favorite pandas.

No I don't go eat crab legs that often. Like to make that an every now again thing.

Off and on here when I can be. Usually work hard to catch up on comments though.

Buddy sure sounds good GO BUDDY GO..Praise God for HIS healing HANDS to the creators HE made.

Sissy couldn't hardly breath due to her over whelming excitement at Dollywood. (that would be me too ( :)

Beautiful deer video. Loved it! ( :

magpie said...

Oh Good, one eaglet still at Lake Washington...
been watching that one and BC most of the day, thought maybe some tech had added another cam view but it doesn't look so technical so I think you are right, DEB, maybe the tree is failing..

Thanks for shortening up the Novia Scotia site for us..another favorite. Imagine, new chicks so late in the year!

Hi DANA - there was a lot of fun stuff over the week-end wasn't there ?

magpie said...

Hello all in eagleland. I have been trying to catch up on the blogs, but you people talk to much. :) I had a busy week last week, getting things ready for school; shopping for things for the classroom at the Teachers Store TAPS, grocery shopping, gathering things together to send off to my sister for her birthday on the 29 of July, and many other things. Never did get on the computer much.

Checked my email today and finally got that down. Did I see on here where Mai might be a new mother and that Sharon was at the National Zoo and other sightseeing around DC?

Just checked in on the Frodo cam and it was last year during July and August that things started to happen there. So we should see some action there shortly.

Paula with her kabobs had my mouth watering along with the different ways to stuff a pepper.

paula eagleholic said...

Howdy Candy and Dana!

Hey, Candy. How's life at the beach?! You have been busy. When does school start?

LYNN I think I have about three weeks left of my summer vacation. The kids come back to school about a week before Labor Day. I am not sure this year, as I didn't check before I left in June haven't received a letter with the info from my school yet. This summer went too fast for mee, I can tell you that.

carolinabeachmom said...

Hey PAULA AND DANA! Glad to see you on.DANA, you wouldn't want to scream that down here at the Outer Banks or you would see a mob ruling. :) Believe it or not, I have only been to the ocean once over the summer and that was in the early evening when it was nice and peaceful; most everyone must have been out to dinner. :)

hedgie said...

Glad you had a nice visit w/ the M&M's, Ceil. So Helen is headed back to the life of Riley, huh? You should have gone with her. How's Mary Margaret? Say Hi to her, please!

Hey Helen, glad to hear you and your sisters had a good time with the M and M girls! When do you expect to ever get back for good from the your beach retreat, hummmmm? I'd love to be right on the water like you are.

hedgie said...

Here's a good one, especially for Sharon: Travel Channel's Samantha Brown was doing a piece in China (airs tomorrow). She says "I had a scary moment as I got into a pen with some pandas. The handler warned me to keep moving. They're adorable-looking, but pandas are bears, after all."

Costume Lady said...

Lynn, something I have wondered about...are panda's dangerous?

Costume Lady said...

They look so docile and unconcerned about what's going on around them.

hedgie said...

Wanda, I imagine that like any wild animal, they could be dangerous if they felt threatened or were in pain.

hedgie said...

Off to tub time before Army Wives comes on at 10. BBL.

MITS said...

YES MOST DEFINITELY, PANDAS ARE VERY DANGEROUS, THEY ARE WILD ANIMALS, EVEN THOUGH THEY LOOK GENTLE

Mema Jo said...

Welcome back Mits! I knew you'd have the answer for the panda question.
I don't know why but I have everything out of my linen closet and sorting it by To Keep or Not To Keep. Taking some sets to beach house or just give to kids.
So many sets without washcloths! I think I am going to just buy a lot of white ones and forget about color matching! lol

Oh I was watching some TV while sorting through them.

Mema Jo said...

Mits - be sure to look at Wanda's facials - You're a goner! lol

Never mind ladies, talked to Sharon. She knows everything, better memory. See ya'll this week!! I been missing you!!

carolinabeachmom said...

Alert!!! Animal Planet channel is talking and showing the attack on the chicks in Limews old nest in the Channe Islands.

carolinabeachmom said...

It is in a commercial now, but will come back to show them getting to the nest and saving the eaglets

carolinabeachmom said...

Very interesting. Dr. Peter Sharp was talking in a few shots. It said that they were found about 40 or 50 feet away from the nest. Both are doing fine and are living in an enclosed cage nest. Which we know. Two ladies that also watched it happening were also on the show. It was a good piece. My husband came in and told me to go into the livingroom to watch and I figured it was the nest of the Channe Ilsands; Limuw's old nest. It was.

carolinabeachmom said...

And with that, I am out of here for tonight. All have a peaceful and restful night. Tomorrow brings a new day with new beginnings.

deb said...

Too bad I didn't come and read the blog before the Animal Planet show was over. I am going to see what they say at the IWS site.

paula eagleholic said...

FYI - Animal Planet had a piece on tonight about the Pelican Harbor nest being attacked. Harpo and Robin were shown on the show...

Here's the link for Animal planet...

The show is called 'Untamed and Uncut'. The episode is "Shorty the Bull's Revenge"

Hi, just glancing through the comments before saying "good night."

Magpie, if I could remount and re-aim the WE camera, I would do it cheerfully. But I doubt they will permit it to be fixed this season. It's too close to the time when the "girls" will leave permanently, and fixing the equipment now would disrupt the eagles' process too much.

Candy, apparently, the Animal Channel Show on the PH nest is a little behind.

Both of those eaglets have fledged from the hacking tower by now.

Wish I could see the program...I used to watch that channel all the time from when it began...but I haven't even got my TV hooked up at present. Long story, mostly economics of the cable system, but I haven't had it hooked up since I transferred to this apartment nearly 3 years ago.

On the Internet a lot of the time anyway, so I don't really miss it too much most of the time.

Thanks, Candy. More good, positive news.

Let's hope the guy makes it to a wild, successful, breeding adult eagle after all.

Incidentally, practically everyone, including me, has been referring to "Buddy" as "he," but somebody at the Center where he is seems very positive that Buddy is a female, although they haven't done the blood test for the purpose of sex determination yet.
