Hi, Steven,
Thanks for the fresh thread this morn. I guess you know the cam has been frozen for a couple of days.

We were wondering if you people are planning to keep it up, at least for a while?

normabyrd said...

NORFOLK'S CHICKS are alone---sleeping in UNISON--ho!---Only 1 SHENANDOAH Pic is open----No FALCON----

movin said...

Suzanne..
The white "thing" ... does look like a bone ... is actually the remnants of the two eggs.

Paula made a video of the aftermath of Belle learning they had died, so when you get a chance take a look. It will give you a better idea of what happened.

Jim

normabyrd said...

THANKS for asking about the cam JIM & SUZANNE----Have been afraid to ask----

paula eagleholic said...

Morning, all. Jim, you are an early bird again today!

Steve, any word on when the cam will be up?

normabyrd said...

SUZANNE---I went back & checked---I think if you click on GLO'S pic & then go to "For Love of the Eagles"----you can watch all of her videos----

normabyrd said...

SORRY SUZANNE---I thought she had done one too!---Should have checked--

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

We would like to be on eagle watch too. Can we get our cam reset?

MITS said...

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE Hope you all have a great Monday. Glad to see the egg up in PA, and just saw Oscar up in Conn. They have really done alot to their nest in just a few short days.:)

MITS said...

Ditto on the cam request:):):).

MITS said...

Was hoping to see another egg at KENT this a.m., but better one than none.

paula eagleholic said...

Now the cam looks solid blue, so I hope it is getting worked on.

paula eagleholic said...

Crap, nevermind.

Mauley said...

Morning all, I am a ditto also on the cam request. Thanks Steve. donna

paula eagleholic said...

VA chicklets are zonked!

paula eagleholic said...

So much for the nap at VA, they are up and about again.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Our cam is back up!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I think it was Belle in the nest but she is gone now.

paula eagleholic said...

Hey, our cam is up!

Sandy said...

I was just going to ask if anyone had seen Liberty or Belle since Sat.?

Thanks Sharon.

paula eagleholic said...

What was she doing, Sharon?

paula eagleholic said...

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

She was just standing at about 2 o'clock looking out. The next refresh she was gone!

paula eagleholic said...

No, Sandy because the cam was frozen!

Sandy said...

OOPS!! I mean thanks PAULA....sheesh! ~sorry

All weekend it was frozen....Yikes! I was out and about all weekend......not sure I would have checked anyway, but thanks for the heads up..

normabyrd said...

THANKS SHARON!----You always bring GOOD NEWS----It takes so little any more to make me HAPPY!--ho!

Sandy said...

I give up........

Mema Jo said...

Good Late Morning I am so thankful that our cam is now up - Good for you Sharon for spotting Belle even if it were just for a second or two. It is very reassuring to know they are at the sycamore tree.
Norma Before ButaButa got up on the high log - she was hanging on the strap from the log to the hammock. She is almost as long in her body as the drop was-almost like she was on her toes. Will be great to see her on the outside. The cameras(even though there are 16 of them) will have a hard time keeping her in view!

normabyrd said...

JO---I am waiting to see her out run LUN LUN!!! ho!--They will have a "TUFF" time keeping up with those "little black legs"---

paula eagleholic said...

Give up on what, Sandy?

glo said...

Actually Norma You are right ...I did put up a video link very early and first thing on Sat , actually before the new thread was posted , so it is at the tail end of the old thread.

It doesn't have the last pictures of Our eagles as they too were accepting what had happened...I just couldn't watch
that anymore.
When the rains came and Belle started to tent Thurs night, I saved for myself the last photos I would see for this clutch of eggs, and began to say my own good-byes to this particular part of our season.

The link I posted was more to begin to help us all pick up the pieces and move on from here kind of a video...It is

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qGaAjD1khI

Thurs of last week I also did a fairly long write up on the For the Love of Eagles Thread in my own way preparing us all for what seemed to lie ahead for LIb and Belle and those who were watching and praying as well.

http://fortheloveofeagles.
blogspot.com/2007/03/morning-thoughts-on-march-22.html

At the close of that writing you will find a second link to
An Eagles Lullaby It was actually that Thurs night that I turned off the cam, my heart could not take watching anymore what my gut was telling me we were gonna see.

Anyway That post is on the For The Love Of Eagles Blog for Thurs march 22nd...

You can cut and paste the link above OR

You can click my name and go there to read what I wrote and follow the link to The Eagles Lullabye as well..

I did not make either of these videos but they did help me to gain or regain on Sat a beginning sense of acceptance as we watch and healing as time passes at the various nests.

Hope this makes sense.

Suzanne unfortunately both links do lead to You Tube videos...

If anyone is having trouble following these links and would like to see them send email to me

gkeeslar@sbcglobal.net

I would be happy to send them to you.
They are more the smile and rest kind not hte tears kind.

Once again wishing all of you a special moment watching some special Friend of Fine Feather

Norma - That would be a blast! ButaButa could even learn more tricks from Tai! I am going to see Tai (I hope) with my NY gals next week. I really am anxious to go because I will also get to meet my buddy, Mits!

normabyrd said...

SHARON---I notice you mentioned going to BRAMWELL for a concert---Have you ever toured those houses? The ones that all the millionaires lived in way back when---I would love to some time---Do they open them up for a tour in the summer---

Mema Jo said...

Glo, I have watched all of it and it did help accept more peacefully what we have gone through. I just appreciate all of last season's events sooooo much. I never thought we would go through this - but it is one of life's experiences that we accept.
I love Belle and Liberty & pray for their future together.
I best of all love all my Eagle Buddies that I have found because of Liberty and Belle!

normabyrd said...

MEMA JO---I really ENVY you all---That will be great fun---Having MITS there too---Give the "Little Prince" my best---MAYBE SOME TIME!!! ho! ho!---

MITS said...

And I am anxious to meet my buddy, MEMA JO:):):).

normabyrd said...

SUZANNE---Have you read GLO'S message about the videos?---I hope that helps you---

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Norma, they do have a tour of the millionaire's homes but not sure when. That is such a beautiful small town. The church where Jon plays the organ was built in 1890 and was fashioned after a church in Wales. It is a stone church, just beautiful!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I am going to meet you all one day - just not quite sure when that day will be.

MITS said...

Better be sooner rather than later, Sharon.

Sandy said...

Paula, I can't for the life of me keep up with who said what this morning. I keep thanking the right people and then the wrong people for info...so I'm shutting up! LOL

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Hopefully sooner than later, Mits.

Sandy, don't worry about it. We all get confused at who we are thanking! :):):)

paula eagleholic said...

Getting the "Service Unavailble" again. That actually started last night...

Mema Jo said...

You all mean to say
The sooner the better

Sandy You should feel right at home here in our world... We have learned to read right over every kind of mistake that you could ever think of making! What's the temp down there today???? Are flowers blooming in the Carolina's?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Paula, mine didn't want to come up again but it finally did!

Did Suzanne say she was going home to read the blogs? Does that mean her computer is set up?

paula eagleholic said...

Cam back up again....Man, feels like December again...

paula eagleholic said...

Sharon,
She printed them out and took them home to read.....

Mema Jo said...

Suzanne will now have no reason for us to push on her computer getting hooked up unless we get another clutch.
COME ON BELLE & LIBERTY
ONE MORE TIME

Mema Jo said...

OK I am going to be in and out the rest of the day. NY gals & exercise hour are the reasons. I love the first reason more then the second one!

Paula Should Dr Sharpe be placing some chicks back in those 2 nests the first part of April?
I don't want to miss seeing it & especially the eagles' reactions.

Mema Jo said...

Even though it is an MT NEST now, it is still a very beautiful nest because it holds so many wonderful memories!

normabyrd said...

THANKS SHARON---I have always wanted to take that tour---These houses were built by the coal barons that moved there in the late 1880's---These homes are still referred to as the millionaire homes----I bet the church is beautiful!!!

paula eagleholic said...

Yes, Jo, we should get to see him placing chicks back in the nest! That will be even better than taking the eggs!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

It sure is a very beautiful nest and many, many beautiful memories!

I missed the part where Suzanne printed the blog off!

paula eagleholic said...

Sharon, she didn't say it specifically today, but had mentioned it in the past!

normabyrd said...

JILL & CAROL---Re: Golden Eagle Release----I called Kieran O'Malley at the DNR this a.m.---He said the reporter had the site confused-- (said she arrived late, etc.) The Eagle was released on NEW CREEK MOUNTAIN----not dam--Located on Rt. 93 in GRANT CO.---Hope that helps you all----

normabyrd said...

DANA---Haved missed you---Was looking thru OSPREY GALLERY---I saw your beautiful picture---With the PINE SPRAY---ho!

Jill said...

Norma,

I know about where they released the eagle. Travelled that mountain many many times. Back and forth to college. And the lake. It is a beautiful place. I bet have seen eagles up there, just didn't know it. Too young to care at the time. LOL

Sandy said...

Hey JO....It's warm...70's and sunny today. It was in the 80's over the weekend, but that's a bit abnormal. Yep daffs, azalias, you name it, it's blooming!

That's why I wasn't around this weekend. I was out working in my yard/garden!!

Mauley said...

Dear Ones,I am praying that I will get to meet all of you. I sure would enjoy an outing like you guys had last year. We will see what we can do. For GLO, your photos, comments, and lullaby and the last days from For the love of eagles have become permanent and precious pieces of my memory that I will cherish forever. They, too, have helped the healing process begin. How can I ever thank you enough? donna

normabyrd said...

JILL---That's way life is---
Seems we are always too young until it's too late---ho! ho---Please let me know if you see any EAGLES----

Steve Chase said...

The guys were out at the tree today and the eagles are hanging around.

Sandy said...

Thanks for the update Steve.

glo said...

Thanks Mauley, Donna Like what Paula said as she made her video the other night...writing out my thoughts and finding and posting those links for all of you, also helped me too.

We are all in this together ..we have shared the heigth and depth of the emotions surrounding our eagles now I imagine, so onward and upward we go together.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Thanks Steven. I saw Belle in the nest when the cam came up!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Absolutely onward and upward we go!! XOXOXOX

Would love to hear from our friends across the pond!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

It has been my observation that Buta is a little bit lazy and the only place I have seen her for a couple of weeks is on those logs flaked out! She did move over to the side just now. I love that little bear!

normabyrd said...

THANKS STEVEN---I LOVE hearing messages like that----What do you think the odds are that we may still have eaglets this season?---

normabyrd said...

SHARON---Have you got to see her climbing every where---I love watching those little black legs climb---You know what----SHE has SPUNK!!!---ho! Can't wait till she gets outside----

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Norma, every time I have had the opportunity to watch lately, she has been right where she is now!

MITS said...

Funny you should mention the girls across the pond, Sharon. I just e-mailed Doreen with the news that they are going to use her favorite male panda Gao-Gao's(SAN DIEGO) sperm to artificially inseminate Mei-Xiang when the time is right.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Great minds, Mits, great minds!

paula eagleholic said...

So are they expecting to try to breed her this spring?

MITS said...

Yes, Paula they are, but her hormones have not reached that point yet, she is still lactating very slightly.

paula eagleholic said...

OP at the Osprey cam!!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I have to say, regardless of the number of eggs or babies in a nest and regardless of the quality of the camera, no other place will move me like our nest does! The other ones are nice but as I have said before, this is where my heart lies!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I have been watching the PA falcon egg for a little while and have yet to see a parent. Do you reckon that is normal?

paula eagleholic said...

How many eggs is there Sharon? If there is just one, they don't start incubating I thought until there were 2 or more.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Falcon back beside the egg. Feel better now.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

There is just one egg, Paula. Such beautiful birds and beautiful eggs!

Jill said...

Norma,

If it is the spot I am thinking about, you get to the top of the mountain and on one side of the road the mountain continues a little further up but the other side is a beautiful open field leading down to some woods. Guess it is possible that they released it near the Jennings Randolph lake too. Either way it is beautiful up there.

paula eagleholic said...

Yea, Sharon, good website to use the realplayer on! Whew, thought it was a spider crawling around the egg, then the close up shot showed it was just a feather!

Mema Jo said...

I am back from my exercising.... So many muscles I had forgotten about.

Thanks Steve for telling us about the sighting - Did you see any hanky panky going on? We want to know if you do!

Mema Jo said...

Both eagles in the nest at KENT

Mema Jo said...

NE Eagle just did her Incubation stretch! One wing went out and her tail feathers spread and then she did it with the opposite wing. She did the egg roll and now the waddle onto her 2 eggs.

Mema Jo said...

All 3 Virginia CHICKS are sitting and waiting for their turn to be fed.
They are really getting larger so the feedings must pay off!
Question Did the adult eagles in VA fill in the egg well now that the chicks are older?

MITS said...

Good question:):)

Mema Jo said...

Hi Carol - there are plenty of eagles out there to watch! Steve said Lib & Belle are still around their nest!

JILL----I thought it might be near the Jennings Randolph lake---I have been there----but am not that familiar with the area------I know there are several eagles in Grant too---Dr. Wolfe always lets me know how many he has seen when he goes home to his farm--- Pendleton County has so much scenic beauty too---Our county is becoming a housing development area as is your Berkeley County----We are attempting to fight it---People from the DC area are moving in & they pay big prices, etc.------

Bob Quinn said...

Hi all. Haven't been by in a while. Sorry to see the news. Very sad.

For those interested I posted some new pix from Blackwater:

http://www.pbase.com/cp8800/morebw

Also the last 14 from Pickering creek are new:

http://www.pbase.com/cp8800/pickering

Interesting tidbit - at Blackwater the osprey pair I shot had the male bringing a fish to the female in the cam platform. She grabed it and they both took off because two other osprey were flying above the platform eyeing the fish.

At Pickering Creek the pair each caught their own fish. The shot with the big splash is an osprey going under for a catch.

Best regards,

Bob

Mema Jo said...

Hi Heidigirl! We have our hopes up for another clutch or just for Liberty & Belle to stay around the old sycamore tree so we can see them occasionally. Do you watch the Channel Islands eagle nest in CA?

Bob Quinn said...

Sunny - I'd like to be a nature photographer in this or the next life. Just an IT contractor for the government who is lucky enough to have proximity to these wonderful areas. You have no idea how many shots I discard to get one halfway decent one. Should be hummingbird season in a couple of weeks. That will give me something to shoot in the evenings when I get home from work.

Mema Jo said...

Sunny - I don't think I can do another storch! I'm just not sure.. Is he in the nest already?

Hello Bob & you are so welcome to come and visit us because you always bring the greatest pictures with you! I am off to view Bob's photos.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

No storks please!! :)

paula eagleholic said...

Bob, we love all your shots! Thank you for sharing them with us....off to take a look!

PS. We would love to see the hummingbirds, too!

Mema Jo said...

Bob Great Photos once again and as always. The Osprey pics are beautifully captured--Don't see how you get them in flight. I especially liked the Osprey diving in that water after their prey. I was astounded when I first saw them do that!
I thank you for including the little Downey Woodpecker - I have a few out back in the woods.

Mema Jo said...

Time for me to ice a cake... BBL

paula eagleholic said...

Wow, Bob, great pictures. I love the turtles, snake and other birds at BW as well.

And the Osprey flying with the fish at Pickering. You can see the fish's eyes! Nice Work.

paula eagleholic said...

Wow, guess you know spring is here when you hear thunder!

movin said...

Evening, everybody,

I can't see much in the nest now, but I looked briefly this afternoon. I noticed that not only had the egg shells been moved, but it looks as though the eagles have been digging extensively in the middle of the nest...

Is that right?? Did anybody see anything or see the eagles doing anything??

It almost looks like they are getting another egg cup ready to me. What do you think?

Jim

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Jim, they were there briefly this evening and it looked as though there were messing with the nest bed. More will be revealed, I hope!! :):):)

Mema Jo said...

Keep your thunder up in the Catoctin mountains, Paula.

Jim, I know you will open your email shortly and then go to Momsters to see this evening's pictures of their visit. I noticed the egg well- it was very defined. I hope, I hope, I hope they still have time to fill it up again!

Jill said...

Norma,

Tell Dr. Wolfe, Jill Long said Hi. What kind of eagles is he seeing at his farm? I wonder if it is the same farm his uncle used to have. I believe it belonged to his grandparents. If so I know exactly where it is. I would love to go there and see the birds. I will have to stop and ask his father next time I am in town. Haven't seen them for years.

I know what you mean about growth. I have seen my property taxes almost quadruple since I came here. Shew. I always figured Grant County would be the first to be settled by the city people. It is ashame to see all the good land go.

New Creek Mountain spans the crest from Jennings Randolph lake all the way into Mount Storm.

Do you know where the lake is in Grant/Pendleton County. I have never been there. It is back on the line somewhere. They use an Upper Tract address. I want to go up there and stay sometime.

movin said...

Thanks, Mema Jo and Sharon,
I have indeed begun to look at some of the pics sent me today.

Things are looking promising...I think I would bet a lot of money that they will try again this year.

Jim

floralgirl said...

Oh, I am so glad you guys saw the eagles in the nest today:) Have had no time to watch myself, busy in Gh and unfortunately dealing with the politics of Farmer's mkts. It has been very hard fro me the past few months trying to work out the situation at my WV mkt., but the mayor of the town and his committee have decided they will run a better mkt. and are changing all the rules and hand picking the vendors and I feel I am being forced out. Tomorrow morning I will find out the fate of the mkt. at a town hall meeting, but it doesn't look good. I am now faced with the reality of losing half my income as it is my best mkt, and it is too late in the season to find another Sunday mkt. You know the saying, you can't fight city hall.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Floralgirl, we will pray that the outcome is positive. Don't you just love politics!!

YW, Jim! It was so good to see them!

sandyshaw said...

Hello everyone. I have been following events with a heavy heart. But your words and companionship are such a blessing; thanks to everyone who helped record the events and for the beautiful expressions of sorrow and remembrance.

Like Sharon, I had a glimpse of our eagle this morning, but I wasn't sure if it was real life or a picture. I read about the events this afternoon and oh, I hope it means a new clutch in better weather. But in any case the eagles have demonstrated and modeled a beautiful response to sorrow and loss that we can all learn from

Mother is in a very serious state of depression and nothing we can do seems to help. We're bringing in all the resources we can think of, but we're in a downward spiral. That's why I can't jump in very often, but please know that I am here and thinking of all of you, especially Sharon. I'll be praying for you and for your family, Sharon.

There's a beautiful osprey nest on the Kent Island site, and the Long Island cam is up.

sandyshaw said...

Megan, I'm so sorry about the market. If things were different, I could jump in, but I just can't take anything more on. Bill Grantham said on Saturday that they had worked out a compromise. I'm not clear about what the issues are, or where all this uproar has come from. Why are you being excluded? I do know the mayor, and he does listen to reason, but I don't know who the other players are. I can e-mail him and cityh council members, but I don't know what to say. Call me or e-mail me if I can help. 876-1276

floralgirl said...

Sandra, we thought we had worked out a compromise, but the people in control keep changing the conditions. What it all boils down to is the mayor and his hand picked committee will decide all details of the mkt., including who gets in. The new rules may prove to be too much for me to bear. They are pushing forward to get what they want, and many will be shoved aside in the process. Tomorrow will decide it all.

paula eagleholic said...

Wow, that's awesome Jo. Are you getting to meet Mits tomorrow?

Megan - so sorry to hear about the problems at the market. This certainly cannot be in the best interests of the town! Why do they always want to screw up something that has been working just fine, thank you. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Mema Jo said...

I didn't realize that Sandra, Megan and Jim were on. I can say good night again after I say Hello.
Sandra I am praying for you to find strength - I am sorry to hear your mom isn't doing well.Could she ever sit out on the porch to get some sunshine? I know - I am groping for anything.
Megan I pray you will be included in the market - Is all of Shepherdstown aware of any changes.
The minute you get the word, no matter what it is, please let us know. Like Sandra said - we will all get behind you and email the mayor!!!! Fifty emails should do it!

Mema Jo said...

Yes, Paula, I finally get to meet Mits and I will stay by the Pandas till I see the little prince.
