Monday June 5

Lots of activity today and some speculation here that the oldest could have fledged or may fledge soon. More when we know more.

Update: 11:20 had a good visit with some guests from the blog. Our concensus right now is that none of the eaglets has fledged yet. Thanks everyone for coming, we'll post a few pictures soon.

Please let us know. It would be really cool for one to fledge while you all are there! If he did fledge, he made it back, thank God.

glo said...

Wishing all of you a very special visit and memory. Will be checking in.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Good morning Glo!!

Just Vicky said...

Hey Glo, do you live in Illinois? What city? I live in Oakwood which is 8 miles west of Danville.

Anonymous said...

There's only two eagles in the nest right now...perhaps the eldest has fledged?

movin said...

Hasn't flown the nest yet...the two smaller birds are easily visible, and I can see the tail of the large female near the camera mount branch.

Jim

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I can see him too Jim, in his favorite hiding place at the tree trunk.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Sure do wish the live feed would come up. Maybe at 11 which is the scheduled time for it.

glo said...

Hi Vickie I know exactly where Oakwood IL is. I live in the Quad Cities area. How is Oakwood. I have been to the commode races there LOL. Good morning all.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Okay, Glo, what is a commode race? I know what one is like here when 2 of us need to go to the bathroom at the same time but what is it there? LOL. :)

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I wonder what our buddies are getting to see this morning. It doesn't look like our eaglets are cooperating very well and perching right now. Wouldn't it just be awesome if one would fledge while they were watching?

Anonymous said...

JIM, DID YOU CHECK MY MESSAGE TO YOU YESTERDAY RE: EAGLE CAM IN B.C. JUST CHECKED IN AND EVERYTHING IS FINE, EAGLETS ARE WAKING UP AND PREENING. WATCHING THE CLOCK AND WONDERING WHAT IS GOING ON IN SHEPERDSTOWN????????

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

11:18 a.m. Has anybody seen a feeding this morning? I know I haven't but possibly could have missed it. Trying to work but it is hard. I sure do wish the live feed was up but it's not.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

11:50 a.m. Thanks for the update, Steve. I didn't think they had yet but what do I know. I am glad you all had a good visit. Sure do wish I could have been there.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Steve, could you possibly find out what is happening with the live feed and let us know?

Anonymous said...

Good morning, fellow groupies. Just got back from Shepherdstown. We met Steve C and Steve W. They brought a spotting scope, so we could really get a good look at the eaglets, who were NOT cooperating with us. Mom or Dad was just above them in the nest, but they did not appear to bring in any brunch today. Babies finally started flapping after awhile, but they were behind the leaves and branches most of the time. Sorry not everyone could be there!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Thanks for letting us know how it went Sunny! I bet it was great. As you can see from my previous post, I said they were not perching much and probably not easily visible. Glad you enjoyed it though.

Anonymous said...

GLAD YOU ALL HAD A GOOD TIME. HOPE LIVE FEED COMES BACK SOON.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I am with you Mits. It is supposed to be up between 11 and 7 but there must be another issue with it.

Just Vicky said...

Thanks Glo! I know very well the Quad cities area! So I'm about as East as you are West!

P.S. Wish live cam would come up!

Anonymous said...

Sharon, I took a couple of pictures. If any of them turned out, I'll send them to you this evening. Hopefully, you'll be able to see the adult perching above the nest.

glo said...

Well Now let's see. I think Vickie would like to describe commode races to you sharon. Since she is an Oakwood"ian"...she left that comment alone I see. LOL.

For those who took pictures is there a way for you to post them so we could all maybe have a chance to see them? Just a thought.

Anonymous said...

SHARON, HOPE THEY ARE NOT USING COMCAST, I'M HAVING SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH MY COMPUTER. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE PICS!!!!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I have Comcast too. I have had a little trouble when I refresh for this page. Don't know what that is about.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Vicky, would you like to explain commode races to me? LOL.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

LIVE FEED IS UP!!!!!!!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I forgot to post the time - It is 1:30 p.m.

Anonymous said...

GLAD TO SEE THEM BACK LIVE!!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Live feed is gone again. That is so frustrating.

Mema Jo said...

2:59pm Jo-MD Hello! I'm back & it was awesome! Leaves or no leaves, I saw all three through the scope & also the adult eagle perched high up in the Sycamore! Our babies are BIG! The adult was Majestic! It really took your breath away & made your heart beat faster! I did see the jumping-flapping of BigBoy! I kept coaching him - but no 1st flight for all his viewers! I LOVED IT !!!!
We met with Steve Chase & with his Eagle Expert Steve W. Nilla, Sunny, Angie & her brother, myself & daughter Jennifer. There were pictures taken & I'll be sending them to Steve (Sunny-I'll send you his email address) & he can place them on the blog. Anyone could then copy them to your own site. Nilla & I then went into the center to look over the displays. NCTC is in a beautiful setting.
Now - I may need to cold boot my pc due to the fact that my live feed isn't responding. Is it still up for all of you? Nilla should be making her comments about now (3:00).
GLO - Vicky: I do like Sharon's definition of a commode race!!! But what is it really?
In closing- I will never forget what I have seen today - I just can't find the correct word to describe my feelings - but I know you all know exactly what I am trying to say.
Were they fed at all????

Anonymous said...

Glad some of you got to see the nest. I have my special spot with the bincolars can see very well. Have to have my husband drive me there which is only 6 minutes.
The live feed sure has been an upset for everyone of us even those many people that don't blog. My sister-in-law in PA has watched this before the eggs were layed. She keeps up with it but like us misses so much the "LIVE FEED". Fingers crossed so we have see it soon in action again.

Just Vicky said...

Glo and ALL, I have lived here for 9 years and have NEVER heard of the "commode races!" Maybe Glo can explain to ALL of us?????

Anonymous said...

LIVE FEED IT UP SHARON ! and everyone

Anonymous said...

Many Many "THANKS TO JOHN" for answering my call of distress for live feed. Thank you so so much JOHN. Thumbs up to ya !

paula eagleholic said...

Wow, saw the live feed was up, brought it up, and immediately saw Big Boy fly a foot or so up the large trunk on the far side of the nest, then he walked/hopped back down...looks like they will be taking off soon!

Mema Jo said...

3:44pm Jo-MD GLO: We do have 'bathtub' races in Frederick MD every year on the park's lake! Probably similar to the commode races except commodes only can have one occupant & bathtubs can have more.

Watching the live feed: BigBoy just made my heart jump - I thought he was a goner... Just watch his footwork - fantastic!!!
HAVE THEY BEEN FED TODAY ??????????

paula eagleholic said...

He has just been a flappin' those wings and hopping/flying all over that nest, from side to side...thanks for getting that live feed back up!

glo said...

OK Well back exactly 1987 we lived in Oakwood. My son actually graduated from Oakwood H>S> The big event there was the Commode races...People decorated their commodes in the garge and raced them down the street. We just went to watch. Never saw anything like that before, but it was hilarious. You'll have to ask some old timers. Hmmm crowd control perhaps became a problem so they had to shut it down. This history is going to get interesting. If the corner market is stillthere by the laundromat and RR tracks, ask in there. LOl

3:49PM Jo-MD
Paula - there he goes again. I am glad he chose that part of the tree to attack - at least we can see him.....

paula eagleholic said...

I saw him again too Jo. Glad you all got to see them today.

paula eagleholic said...

Wow , did you just see our lil Spunky! Over to the middle and back to the far edge again, and there he goes again as I type, now over on the far right..

Mema Jo said...

3:56pm Jo-MD You can identify Spunky due to the white feathers under his wings. I saw it very clearly today. I forgot to mention the most important event of the visit :
We were so priviledged in that we saw a 'poop shoot'! WOW ! Did they ever pay us an honor for our being there!

NillaWafer said...

Hey Gang, What a wonderful time we had this morning over at NCTC. Meeting everyone was so special and a very very special thanks to Steve C and Steve W for being so fantastic. Especially letting us stay even when they had to get back to work. Well at first not much action in the nest, but one of the parents was perched above on a branch the whole time. Finally movement they started flappin wings and we really had a good look at them thru the scope.Hoping that we would see a feed, but didnt. So after everyone left but Myself and Jo and her daughter we hung around watching and waitng..lol Then walking up the center and taking a look at the museum part of the building, Jo and i had our picture taken with a real stuffed bear by her daughter..lol and in front of the live feed tv in the lobby. Driving out we really got a GREAT look at the nest, they were waitng patiently on some food.. Your right Sharon was hard to leave, but have a wonderful memory of the visit. But driving out slowly i saw Big Boy flapping wings and pulled over to the side, so Jo pulled over to and we drove to several spots and got even better advantage point to see them. WOW is all i can say. I am sure pictures will show up here if Jo has anything to do with it...lol Hugs to everyone for caring so much about "OUR" Kids THANKS AGAIN STEVE & STEVE your the best!!!

NillaWafer said...

Jo get it right.. YOU had the honor of the poop shot..LMAO Hey Ang thanks so much and you to Sunny was such a pleasure. Yeah i know those ticks (which Steve warned us about could crawl on us) when i got home i stripped nekkid in front of big mirror ( NOT a purrrtty site) and searched my body and took a long hot shower , but no ticks..LMAO The centers day care is not far from the nest and the childern were taking a walk along the road and the parent bird kept and eye on them to!! Oh Ang to turn back the hands of time to childhood again.. sigh

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I am so glad you all had a good time. I am sure there are no words to describe what it felt like. I was definitely thinking about you then! Thanks Glo for the description of the commode race. I bet that was a sight to behold.

Mema Jo said...

4:27pm Jo-MD Sharon
Did you see any feedings today?

Steve W, Eagle Expert, did tell us that the eaglets are as large or larger then the parents at this stage. They will slim down later.
I requested Steve W to blog us some eagle facts as we go along. He is very knowledgeable.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Jo, I have not seen any feedings today, I don't think. I am so anxious to get the pictures from today.

Steve Chase said...

I pulled several ticks off my head and face...

Thanks for visiting folks. Steve W did mention that these youngsters are a bit bigger than the adults right now. They will slim down some.

Anonymous said...

ewww.....now you guys are creeping ME out about the ticks! I gound one on my arm, I guess he came off my shirt. I stripped and clothes are in the laundry now. Can't feel anything on my head, but I'll have hubby check when he gets home. It was worth it, though!

glo said...

What a wonderful day and experience for all of you. You will remember this day forever, just like I have remembered the Oakwood Commode Races LOL.

OK so one is definitely a lot more majestic and impressive than the other, and believe it or not, the commode races did not include a "poop shoot". But yes, it too was a site to behold.

I would however go for in person eagle watching anytime.

I think NCTC and both Steves, and anyone else I have not learned the names of have touched several human lives forever this spring. My heartfelt thanks to each one of them.

paula eagleholic said...

Thought Big Boy was about to do it! I think I'd flip out if I actually was able to witness it...as much as I don't want to see them go, I am very excited to see them fledge.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Glo, they have for sure touched my heart and I will remember this experience forever. I know everyone that knows me gets so sick of hearing about our eaglets but they still love me anyway. I share the happenings with at least 1 other person every day. If they would only log in to this 1 time, they too would be hooked like we all are. I would say the winner of the commode race would look quite majestic and impressive when crowned the winner at the end of the race. I know when I win a commode race, I feel impressive. LOL.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Paula, I am with ya. There have been several times this afternoon I have just held my breath, tried to encourage him from here and not wanting him to at the same time. I still just pray that when they do fledge, all three come back safely.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone seen them get fed today?

glo said...

Yep I too can almost read that "Big guy " thinking I'm gonna go get some supper. Oh sure I'll bring some back for the rest of you too!!!

I too really want them to fledge and then return and check in, but that really might not happen. From a site in Canada I have done some watching and readin gon If they don't return, it DOES NOT mean injury and/or death It does pretty much mean though that we will not see that eagle again. His/her parents will most likely occupy the tree again next year, and this years offspring will not be welcome guests.

glo said...

Well in flew your food answer, but I don't think there is any there for spunky. SIGH!!!! That part worries me as much as anything now :-(

NillaWafer said...

Geeeezzz now im setting here scratching Thank's Gang...LMAO I am wondering now did i miss something some wheres... ROFLMAO Everyone the place we watched from was mowed area but non the less the ticks were there.. I have not seen any food and they are sorta pecking at things laying in the nest. Ang yada yada best they search you we could sell tickets and donate it to the Center..lol you have a better body...LMAO The live cam picture is so clear today, what a beautiful day we had!!!! Looks like Mr Inbetween is flying circles in the nest alot of flapping right now. Oh he came competely air born in the nest.. like hovering did ya'll see it and the cam got stuck for afew seconds with him in midair!!! Twig moving time i think they do that when their hungry..There he goes again n cam got stuck, i wonder if they are taking pictures and it stops the camera almost still shots , wonderful shots of wings wide open for about 10 seconds!!! Oh food just arrived, maybe not they turned n headed back to their perches( 2 did)Only 1 is eating what looks like a fish. Whats your take in this Ya'll seeing that also?

Mema Jo said...

5:26pm Jo-MD Sunny, Sharon said that she had seen NO feedings. I am starting to feel real badly for our babies not getting any food. Especially little Spunky who still has a ways to grow. Although, I may have just missed something because InBetween seems busy with something that he will fight BigBoy to keep him away... (YEP! the adult just came in )
They are all hungry...........getting rough in that nest if they all don't get some. Gotta go pay attention to what is going on.

glo said...

OK I feel better. it might be slim pickins but Go Spunky!!!!

Mema Jo said...

5:35pm Jo-MD Now I am thinking that it is Spunky who has the fish with Inbetween off to the left & BigBoy on the far side - But looks as though BigBoy snatched something to eat.

glo said...

Yes an adult came, and could hardly even land on the nest. I think the food was scarfed right out of its beak. They all saw it coming but the two big ones got there first to greether, spunky backed up out of the way, but is picking at leftovers.

NillaWafer said...

Yup "Ol Big Boy" done snatched something up, The parent sure didnt stick around at all. Jo n Glo think we could be strong enough to take a big sling shot over there and hurl afew fish up to them? lol (just kiddin dont want anyone gettin their knickers in a twist) Glo looks like Spunky got something so you can take adeep breath and relax..said with a smile.

Mema Jo said...

6:13pm Jo-MD Hipnoticredhead:check your email.

glo said...

Well whatever is going on down below the tree, I would sasy has a pretty captive audience. Kind of like a parent having supper and saying come on down...there's plenty here. It must be so hard to leave the safety of such a high nest!!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I have to go out for a while. You all keep posting about what is happening. I loved the pictures of you all. I like it when I can put a name with a face. Jo, thanks for the sad face for me! I have one too for missing it!!

NillaWafer said...

The pictures are great, but cant say much for the girl in pink..lol man i didnt know my hooters were so big!!! LAUGHING Thanks Jo, I was a rose inbetween afew thorns today...lol By the way you got my screen name right im so proud of you!!! Big Hug

NillaWafer said...

Ok some wing flapping going on havent seen any more food brought in yet. I have cam window up but Deal Or No Deal is on tv.

NillaWafer said...

Its 8:30 pm and parent came in but no food. Is anyone else's live cam freezin up now and then???

Mema Jo said...

8:51pm Jo-MD I've been out for a few hours - I haven't seen the live cam freeze. Looks like Spider is busy. Inbetween & BigBoy were beaking eachother - I think they are both hungry & feeling nasty.

NillaWafer said...

Ut Ohhh our resident spider is back weavin a web again folks. Looks like the kids might be going to bed hungry tonight also. Welcome back yeah they been pickin thru the nest alot, aparent came in didnt stay and no food. Meet me at midnight over there with the sling shot ill bring the fish..LMAO I rebooted the cam its fine now.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Glo - you've got mail!! Everybody have a wonderful night.

glo said...

Sharon thanks for the mail! What a nice surprise, Nilla I', all for the slingin some fish up there idea. Them adults are pretty good though. They would probably snatch it in mid air. They know what is best I guess. In order to really live their lives, they have to leave that nest. Maybe we could well you could climb the tree, an dput the fish like about 6 feet out on a limb. Then each day move it just a little further away. Now see that sounds like a good plan to me!!! LOL

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Glo, that sounds like a really good plan.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

6:16 a.m. Live feed down - again. There is a whole lot of flapping going on this morning. Is perhaps today THE DAY?

Mema Jo said...

7:44 Jo-MD Good Morning.
Well, it would be if the live feed were up! I don't feel this is a good day, or in fact any day this week, for it to be down..... Thank goodness NCTC has a live feed that never goes down & will be able to notify us if there is a first flight. Talk with you all later...

Mema Jo said...

8:13 Jo-MD
Sharon - please check your mail.

Harbinger said...

I only see one baby this morning. Is there enough space for two to hide under the branch, or has one or both fledged?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

No, they are all three still there. I can see 2 butts at the trunk of the tree. No fledge yet.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Has anybody seen a feeding today? I haven't but could have missed it.

Mema Jo said...

10:23am Jo-MD Not me! They can get nasty to one another when they're hungry.

Anonymous said...

Good Morning Sharon-----I have read that when the parents think the eaglets are ready to fledge---they will withold food, in an attempt to coax them out of the nest------and sometime they will fly over nest with food in their beaks-----to lure them out of the nest----

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I know they try to lure them out. Maybe today is the day to do that!! WE NEED THE LIVE FEED REALLY, REALLY BAD!!

Anonymous said...

NO UPDATE, NO FOOD, NO LIVE FEED! :(

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Technically, the live feed hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. so hopefully in 25 minutes it will be up!! :)

Anonymous said...

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

11:59 a.m. That was a pretty good show just now by BigBoy/Gal. I thought he/she was out of there!

paula eagleholic said...

Anyone just see Spunky? Looked like a couple of hovering manuvers. Thought he was outta there! And Big Boy is looking at him like "Hey, I'm trying to nap here!"

paula eagleholic said...

Ok Sharon, which eaglet is it!?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I thought it was BigBoy but maybe not. Maybe it was Spunky. It is hard to tell with shadows moving all over the place.

Anonymous said...

WITH ALL THE FLAPPING GOING ON MAYBE,6-6-06 WILL BE A GOOD OMEN DAY!! FINGERS CROSSED!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

12:37 p.m. Now for the past few minutes, I am pretty sure that has been Big Boy/Gal flapping. Looking like he is getting close to being ready. InBetween just did a little bit and Spunky is reporting that he is just not old enough yet.

Anonymous said...

QUIET ANTICIPATION!!! THEY LOOK JUST LIKE THEIR PARENTS, SITTING THERE, GLANCING AROUND, WAITING TO TAKE FLIGHT!!

Anonymous said...

InBetween is 11 weeks old today, and little Spunky will be 11 weeks on thursday. Spunky can practice for a few more days. Maybe once the others are gone, he'll have more room to hop and flap!

glo said...

He'll also have more food to eat. Man do I sound like a broken record. Just checking in over my lunch break. Maybe we could bribe somebody Jr high age boy ok even a girl would be fine if we can find one who wants to climb that tree and start luring them bit by bit from the next. Have a good afternnon, will check in later unless we get the forecasted storms, then no computer for me.
