I'm trying to get the status on the live cam. Still not working...

Update 5:00 PM--Still not working, my apologies...I'm in DC the next few days, but will still try to track down the problems.

Thanks, Steve, we really do appreciate NCTC's hard work on this site.

Thanks, Steve. I am anxiously awaiting. I couldn't do the falcon cam for long. You can see up close and personal their feeding items and it wasn't too pleasant! And, boy are they loud.

Hey Steve - when you started this blog, did you expect this bunch of "groupies"? We really, really do appreciate you and all the NCTC staff!

paula eagleholic said...

Not sure if it is Mr Inbetween or Spunky helping themselves to some lunch, it's getting hard to tell the two apart. Big boy is easier, he is definitely blacker.

What are the video links for the falcon and eagle sites. I can only find picture webcam sites, not video! Lots of falcons up north right now, by the way!!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Janice, the link is http://www.dep.state.pa.us/dep/falcon/ -- then you go to the right side of the screen to live video.

Jo-MD 1:22pm Janice: You can reach all these cams by signing onto beakspeak.com. It's coverage is worldwide.
Steve: Do you think that our NCTC Eagle Cam could be set to refresh in shorter time then the 30 secs? I know from watching other cams that 30 secs is pretty good as others go for 2 mins or so. Could the server take it? We wouldn't miss much in 5 secs if we don't have the live feed.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Oh NO, empty nest syndrome. That is what we are going to have. My son graduates next year so now I am going to have to go through it twice! LOL.

Steve Chase said...

Regarding the refresh times, we need to stay at the 30 second time. The cam has come close to crashing the network in the past, so our computer folks are very wary...

thanks for you kind comments. They continue to diagnose what's up with the video, it seems to be on the Wheeling WV end.

Marie,
The first time I saw the eaglets laying on their side like that, I thought they were either deathly ill or...you know.
I never knew birds did that until I saw the eaglets.
I'm not looking forward to empty nest either, I just pray that they all survive their first flight. There is a chance they may not, and if that were to happen, I would be crushed...I would rather not know...but we must all remember that we are watching mother nature, in the raw, so I guess we have to take the bad with the good, and pray for a successful flight!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Thanks for the update, Steve. Still patiently waiting!

I am really glad I am not a bird in Harrisburg. It has been a really bad day for small birds but a really good day for 5 baby falcons. (What are they, falconettes?)

You have got to watch this video!!

birds/Haliaeetus_albicilla/Haliaeetus_
albicilla_09g.html?movietype=rpMed

(sorry for such a lengthly site)
It's a first flight - BigBoy might end up like this - but better the river then the hard ground!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Jo, I watched that clip and it was great. Looked just like our babies when they are flapping their wings. Yeah, the water would be a much better place to end up than on the ground for sure. Still anxiously awaiting our live cam to come back up.

Anonymous said...

Jo, I just got a chance to watch your clip! I loved it!

Anonymous said...

I live less than a mile from the NCTC. I check on the babies every chance I can online. I love to see them around and about. Watching them really makes my day. Thank you so much for doing this. I am so glad they have a place to go to be safe to birth and grow.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Veronica, if I lived less than a mile from NCTC I would be in trouble because I don't know if I could stay away. I would love to drive by and see Big Boy or Mr. In-Between or even little Spunky perching on the edge of the nest. I am really missing the live feed. They really need to get that fixed

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Okay, still feeling a little lost here. I am grateful for the eagle cam pics though.

glo said...

Hi all. Sorry your live feed is down and these guys are perching and almost winging it. I am sorta chickening out. I am so scared that at leas tone of them isn't going to survive that first flight and I can't stick around to watch. Of course now if the one who lives close by would promise to go retrieve the eaglet, heal a broken wing and release it again I might be able to stick around. Tough to stick by. I am definitely a chicken NOT and eagle. LOL Having said that though , I have so loved this site and enjoyed watching a succesful nesting of 3 eaglets. terrific pair of parents here as far as I'm concerned.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Glo, I was wondering where you have been but I totally understand. Makes my heart hurt to think about it. Take care.

I've been behind in seeing this site. What are the sexes? I've seen the names, but can't tell which sex Spunky is. Are they all boys? Is that a concern that there wasn't a girl born?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous, THey have not been sexed, and their names are not official. Many of us made up our own names, and eventually we started calling them BigBoy, inBetween, and Spunky. Spunky was the last-hatched, and had the least chance of survival. We've all been rooting for him even before he/she hatched! It's much more difficult to know who is who now, than it was in the beginning. Spunky is 3 weeks old today, Inbetween on Tuesday, and BigBoy last Saturday.

Anonymous said...

okay, serious typo. That's EIGHT (8) weeks, not three~

paula eagleholic said...

Anyone else having trouble with the web cam now, too?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Paula, it looks like mine is stuck on 12:48 and it is 1:27 now. They can't take it all from us.

Just Vicky said...

Well what a mess we are in today, NO cams! This is VERY upsetting to say the least!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I am with you Vicky. Maybe they took down one to fix the other. Let's pray that is the case.

paula eagleholic said...

Regular cam working now at 2:30 pm. WooHoo!!

Just coming back from a couple days of not seeing the kids and finding that its broke again is to say the least very upsetting. Right now at this critical time when "OUR" KIDS are growing and about to fly the 1st time, As 1 of the many who have been watching this eagles since eggs,I agree with many and sure do miss seeing them . Hurryyyyyyyyyy Steve and hopefully get this problem fixed real soon, alot of us Eagle Mother's depending on you..lol

The video is working!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

2:45 P.M. WE ARE BACK!!! YEAH RAH!!!

paula eagleholic said...

Wow, video is back, and just Big Boy and Inbetween taking big hops around the nest! and Spunky perching....

Glo,
If it is any comfort to you and everyone else, it appears that one of the eaglets at Blackwater has successfully fledged, he has been in and out of the nest for 3 days now...pretty exciting, I have been watching them since I've been watching the NCTC eggs.

NillaWafer said...

They sure have alot of action going on now in the nest, all 3 flappin wings and hopping across the nest to the edge. I saw Big Boy really taking off strong and held my breath!! Steve if 1 would take off and try and fly i hope that some one from there watching would make sure if it did happen to fall GO CHECK and see if it survived the fall??? But keeping in thought only 40% do make it 1st flight.. SAD

paula eagleholic said...

Wow, that was so awesome. Big Boy just jumped/flapped/flew from one side of the nest to the other...

paula eagleholic said...

Nancy, I agree! It's like they knew the video just came back up...bunch of show-off eaglets!

Mema Jo said...

Jo-MD 3:14pm Boy oh boy! I missed all the frustrations you all have been going through this am - was watching 2 of my great-grandsons & that was enough excitement for me. Now the video is up & I have settled down for the show.
Anonymous: Read our comments of May 9 & May 10 to answer your questions about names & sexes.
Keep the Faith! We will have 3 successful first flights!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

That is right Jo, keep the faith. There are so many people praying that these eaglets will be safe.

glo I would do anything I could to help an injured eaglet. I love birds. I raised my parrot from a little chick. I keep my eyes open to see the parent eagles. I have heard an owl in my yard before at night. I couldn't see it though because it was dark. Its nice having a place like the NCTC so close. I am such an animal lover. I would also love to see a live owl. They seem so rare nowadays and they are so beautiful.
