Tuesday Part 2

Hi Folks,  We are all waiting with baited breath to see how this nesting season is going to work out.  I recently contacted the Regional Bald Eagle Coordinator for FWS, Craig Koppie,  and he sent me this message a few minutes ago:

"There could be several reasons for this issue. There could be a replacement nest they constructed during the fall and they are visiting less frequently at their usual location as you suggested. There might be a mate replacement so they are starting later due to a new pairing. Or lastly, they are the same pair and just sense a colder than normal year and are holding off a few weeks or so because of icing on the river and greater snow fall potential. I believe somehow, nature knows."

We know that these are the same two birds, so we need to figure this year's delay is caused by  a new nest or the cold weather.

I am betting that the cold weather is impacting timing this year.  This is the coldest stretch of weather in many years.  Combine the weather with the snow and the iced up river and that's enough to delay things...

So time will tell which theory is correct.

Craig just released a cool book with Teena Gorrow called Inside a Bald Eagle's Nest.  Check it out here.

LYNNE1, Florida is jam packed with people, including our dear JUDYE, who love it. For me, however, it was, most of the time, horrible ! I've lived in several AZ locations and visited Texas every summer for about 17 years of childhood and I've never experienced anything like the Florida woes. CA was our "go to" place when living in AZ, but there are the earthquakes, smog and traffic to contend with there. However, few bugs and vermin.

I hope it works JO!

Kay said...

Wahoo ! I hope it works, too ! We've missed you here, but glad you were able to keep with our eagles through FB.

Happy to see you on here Jo. Hope you get everything transferred.

Wind and occasional snowflakes here.

DANAMO, no offense intended as I express my feelings about The Sunshine State ! No doubt one can hear good and bad things about any location on our map. And, who am I to talk as I sit here in Ohio while many of my old friends are living or vacationing down there right now ? I returned here to be near the kids and that makes it worth dealing with ice, snow, tornadoes.....☺

Yeah for Shep. Fish delivered and pounced on by Belle in a hurray !

stronghunter said...

2 eagles in nest!

stronghunter said...

I see that yummy fish.

stronghunter said...

Belle woofing it down.

stronghunter said...

I think eggs are developing and will be laid soon now.

Hi Jo!!

stronghunter said...

Weather people were right. Wind is blowing here.

Kay said...

Come on in, JO !

Shep has turned out to be a fine mate. Brings home the "bacon" and then does some housekeeping chores while the missus eats.

Kay said...

Belle POOF's and Shep follows---time to poop, and stretch before settling back in again ? One of them fluttered through in front of the cam and continued on.

Mema Jo said...

I think I broke through the gate

Good afternoon

This has been exhausting.. ♥

Kay said...

JO, make your self at home ! So happy to see the breakthrough ! Aren't you tickled pink with the events of the last few hours ?

Mema Jo said...

Yes, Kay but I wish they would make up their minds as to whether or not this is an egg day

Mema Jo said...

Is your live feed still up/running

Peg your Pardon JUDYE

Sandi said...

Judy, at least 1 eagle is there - I see part of one yellow foot in the IEZ!

Kay said...

Sorry, JO, I left for a phone call with Eileen. When I get a phone call it interrupts my on line connection---reboot and be right back with a cam report.

Yes, my cam is working. Wind is blowing the light stuff in the pic. May have an eagle way up top at the 11 spot ????

Judie said...

Welcome home, Jo. Love the beauteous cardinal you brought with you.

Thought I saw a foot but not sure. Missed the luncheon.

Shirley, windy and an occasional flake swirling about.

My memory of FL. Age 10 at my maternal grandmother's in Inverness and heard my older sister scream and point at the back of my knee. Looked. Saw a huge greyish-white spider on my leg. Huge damn thing about the size of a Portobello mushroom cap. Never been back.

Okay, how many vote for baked chicken and how many vote for beef enchalada?

JUDIE, before I go---my vote is for beef enchiladas !!!! You can take the girl out of AZ, but you can't take AZ out of the girl.

JudyEddy said...

I saw the dark spot at 10 but didn't think it was a eagle FORGIVE me I misspoke

JudyEddy said...

I keep getting spinning circle on and off

stronghunter said...

I think you should fix whatever pleases you the most, Judie. Both sound great.

Earthquake in South Carolina today.

stronghunter said...

Not seeing an eagle now.

I am going to venture out to the bowling place.

JudyEddy said...

JO welcome back home I see you are still a Blogger and didn't have to go through Google

JudyEddy said...

well I still see the spot up at 11 but I don't know if its a eagle I see no movement at all
I think I am with Shirley I see no feetsie on the dark spot at all now don't get me wrong eagle may be there

Hoda said...

BEG not Peg!!!
Sorry JUDYE

No egg yet JO. In reference to your question to SANDI.

I do no think any of us can be sure it is an empty nest.
Eagles could simply be OUT OF VIEWING AREA.
NOT IN VIEWING AREA. CAN NOT SEE EAGLES.
We can no longer accurately and with surety say empty nest. JMHO of course.

JudyEddy said...

they way the wind is blowing may be it will blow the camera in the better view
I keep watching the dark spot for movement

JudyEddy said...

I kept having to refresh every few min because of the spinny circle aggravation little bugger

JudyEddy said...

is it me or is the cup all a mess???????????????????????

Hoda said...

JUDYE I do not, and have not seen this year,a well defined cup as we had seen in years past.
I always agreed with the comments that indicated the cup should be deeper. I don't see the well defined walls around a well this year.
Could be the angle? Could be the distance? Could be it is not there.
Things do look messy

grannyblt said...

Judie,

I vote either one. As long as you are cooking.

Sandi said...

Just had to reload the cam page and now we have 2 eagles in the nest!

Sandi said...

Belle is in the cup area and Shep is moving sticks near the 3 position.

Sandi said...

I have tried using Firefox, Google Chrome, and IE to load the live feed today. Doesn't seem to matter which one I use, eventually i get that damn twirly arrow! GRRRR!

DanaMo said...

Love seeing both. I was hoping for an egg today.

Lori O. said...

Hello!

Just checking in to see if there's an egg yet, but reading tells me NO.

JudyE and Kay, love Florida. Went there many times for work and always had a great time, except for those darned No See Ums. They left welts the size of quarters on my legs and itched for a week!

Jo, glad you made it back. I knew you would.

Judie, is it too late to vote for Beef Enchiladas?

Med homework is calling my name. Have to do a med analysis for my patients from Thursday and each had about 25 prescriptions. This will take a while.

Judie said...

So far, the enchaladas win. So easy. Thanks for the votes.

Windy as all get out of town this afternoon. Fierce wind at the nest, also. Both in the nest.

In my next life I will plan to arrange for eagles to produce Easter eggs instead of Valentine eggs.

BBL

Kay said...

LORI, I agree, Florida is great for a brief resort vacation. Living there full time, year round, is a different matter. Those no see um's are just a very small taste of what can happen there ! ☺ I expect JUDYE to put out a contract on my head any minute now.

LOL, JUDIE, please tell us which menu you chose. Notice how, when any such question arises, some of us just speak right up blurting out an answer while others take a conciliatory, peace keeping path ? It takes both kinds to make this world go round. I love it ! If the Momsters united and took over the running of our country, it would revolutionary !

DanaMo said...

Belle in the nest. Any egg?

Kay said...

Ole`, enchiladas it is ! Muy bueno !

DanaMo said...

No offense Ky. I suspect no place is perfect for everyone. One needs to decide what is most important to them.

Kay said...

Two eagles in the nest, another fish ! It's dinner time. Shep is making sure Belle has food to carry her over the big task ahead !

JudyEddy said...

poor eagle are gonna blow away

DanaMo said...

Excuse the typos on the ipdad. I now see my cam was frozen, both are there.

JudyEddy said...

I keep getting spinnin arrow

Kay said...

No offense taken, DANAMO, dear---just havin' some fun with the concept, cause I've been there, done that. I was in my early 40's, maybe not laid back enough yet to take the drastic differences between Ohio and Florida and Arizona and Florida in stride ! You know I mean no offense as well, I hope ! It would be a topsy turvy world if we all wanted to live in the same place and utterly boring if we all had the same tastes. Vive la differance` ! Don't grade my Spanish or my French please.

JudyEddy said...

did one poof inbetween the spinning arrow??????????

Judie said...

Belle sitting patiently, or not, in the cold. I'm thinking tonight under the cover of darkness. A girl does need her privacy.

Okay, enchladas it will be. Yes, Shirley is the peacekeeper both in real life and her blog life.

Lori, hope the homework is going well and quickly.

Okay, off to the scullery.

Kay said...

Wonder whathas Shep so agitated--and he POOFS. He may be scaring an intruder off ??

Kay said...

Belle is just standing on the fish and taking in whatever that guy of hers is up to. I'm having no problems with the cam.

Wow, what a wind !

JudyEddy said...

gotta go pick up Jordyn Happy eagle watching you all will have to catch up with comments later on 163 in my mail box but I did read up till lunch so not as many left and I can't keep up with the spinny arrow I have refreshed 6 times since I got home

I see I opened a can of worms about living in FL one summer before buying. When you make drastic changes, no matter where you go, give it a try first! (If you have that option!) I am a born and bred Texan and it would NOT be my first choice. However, my kids and grandkids are here, therefore I will stay.

We leave in about an hour for our banquet.

Eagle just flew in!

Judie said...

Have returned from the scullery. Beef enchladas were good. Used leftover brisket and steak.

Kay, it was really fun to have you join me in the scullery tonight. Enjoy the evening.

I believe I see an MT nest. Really confused about what is going on with our royal pair.

Lolly, glad Zach has a good coach.

Going to put my feets up and pretend I'm Jo.

Well last evening around this time a friend phoned from Whistler BC very upset that her Mom passed in Ontario. She was by herself and I think this is why Dawn was upset.

Tonight Paul phoned to let me know of the passing of another Great Lady. Paul is brother to Jill and husband to Dawn. Both ladies from the Dragon Bost Team. Their mother was very sick but she held on till all her children, their husbands/wives and grand children gathered. They surrounded her with love and Light and she transitioned peacefully.
I feel sad for my friends for their loss.

I will keep checking the camera. Maybe another early morning visit. Last night it was 1:30 your time.

Lolly said...

we are home and had a fantastic evening! Blessed to have such a wonderful church family and they are family! It is a small church and we have gone there for 40 years. We have all raised our children together. The guys gave this banquet and they did a fantastic job!

Also, tonight, spur of the moment, we are hosting a Trivial Pursuit party Thursday. Think I will have time enough to prepare. LOL

See that the nest is empty. Surely it won't be long!

Can't wait for those warm temperatures later in the week. I am hoping that I will be able to get out there and run.

Sorry for your friends loss, Hoda. Glad she went peacefully. That is what we all want!

Good morning, Dana, JudyE, Hoda!

How exciting to turn on the cam and see both eagles in the nest!

Who is in the egg cup?

Lori O. said...

I pray it's Belle in the cup and she's laying that egg!

stronghunter said...

Good morning--they were both here, but one just poofed.

Lori O. said...

Hard to take eyes off the cam.

Both are in the nest.

BELLE keeps getting into the cup and getting up to rearrange fluff.

SHEP had his nose down in the cup under Belle while she was up for a second, like he was expecting an egg, too!

Lori O. said...

Think that's Shep still in the nest, but not 100% sure. "U" shaped tail feathers, so probably Shep.

BOTH back in the nest and visible.

One eagle in - think it's Shep, but don't see a spot.

Adjusting crib rails at 2 - 3.

Lori O. said...

Yes. Behaving like SHEP and tail feathers say Shep - where's the darn spot?

Lori O. said...

I give up on who it is, but there's only one in the nest now, and it's sitting in the egg cup with tail feathers spread out and pointing at 8 - 9.

Lori O. said...

Eagle head consumed in the NHZ, but eagle sitting still in cup now with tail feathers pointing at 8 - 9 again. YAY.

DANA PAULA was the one who saw the difference in their tails. She shared with us on the blog and she is spit on.
Belle tail feathers are straight.
Shep tail feathers are jagged in comparison.

not spit!!!

Goodorming my eagle friends. Late signing on this AM. Bandit woke up at 5:30 so I had to take him outside. Fell back to sleep til 7:00 then heard Mom crying out. Turns out she couldn't find her pain medicine last night and, rather than wake me to ask where it was, she went to bed without it!! Now she's back to sleep.

Yesterday, Denny and I broached the subject of getting the ball rolling for some home health care services. At first Mom said, "I know I may need that down the road but I don't yet." Eventually she relented, but reluctantly. I have contacted (online) the hospice center that was recommended by Mom's vascular doctor and am waiting for them to call us, hopefully today or tomorrow.

I also set up an account for Mom with Peapod - it's a grocery delivery service connected with Giant Food Stores. There is another lady here in Mom's condo development who has her groceries delivered to her by the same service.

For those not on FB, yesterday I got a message from a friend that she knew someone who was looking for a home for two 13-week old dachshund puppies, a brother and sister. She wanted both to go to the same home. I posted their photo on my FB and got a text within an hour from the science teacher on my team, who said he and his wife and their 2 children were interested. By evening, I had been in contact with the owner of the puppies, who took Colin's and Sharyn's number and called them. Then I got a text from Colin that they will be getting the pups one day this week. Their kids - a girl and a boy - are ecstatic that they'll each have a puppy and Colin and Sharyn are great people - the pups will be well loved.

Nest looks MT right now.

Have a great day everyone.

SANDI, so pleased that your Mom is willing to give in home care a chance. Peapod is a wonderful solution for her. Yeah ! I knew those darling pups wouldn't be available for long. Those kids are going to have a ball with them.

Afternoon, all!

Sure is nice to see our nest free of snow.

I read Belle gave us something to talk about, being in the nest in the near middle of the night.

Sandi, glad your Mom is finally accepting of some assistance. I've heard about Peapod, but don't know anyone that has used it. Peapod is from Giant, correct?

Yesterday, I drove to Frederick to get another month of financials done for the carpet store. Went home and grabbed a couple of things...checked on the house...swung by Larry's place to get a couple of things for him...chatted with his sister...then headed back down here. Got home at 11pm.

Larry stayed here with the puppy dogs. Said we had a couple of hours of wet snow...nothing stuck, but was very windy last night and overnight. Was a little windy this morning, but now its calmed down and the sun is making it warm.

Saw an eagle in my tree this morning...then another eagle flew in towards it, and the eagle in the tree flew off, dropping its prey! I went and found it later, as it dropped it right under the tree. It looked like part of a duck!

Another eagle landed in the tree just a little while ago, and then a juvie appeared a little while later. Looked like a first year (last Year) eagle. Pretty brown. The adult took off, and the juvie looked like he was bugging him...

OH! And I think i counted a dozen trumpeter swans! They are not right out front, but I can see them with the binoculars.

The gulls were feasting on some dead crabs that washed up...probably from the rough water last night.

Today is a take it easy, do what you want to do kinda day! I took the dogs for a beach walk...filled up the bird feeders, made some breakfast...and got rid of the overripe bananas by making some banana bread!

Gotta get caught up here!

Hi Paula. Seems you accomplished a lot yesterday and deserve a day of just doing what you want to do. Valentines also sounds like you two had a nice time.

Can hear lots of wind but no live picture. Yes, I think it was Jo who sent a message.

Okay, back to my book.

Back from church and can not get the cam up. What gives? Is everyone having this problem?

Hi PAULA ! You are getting sooo much done this weekend---makes me tired to think about it. Counting down the days prayerfully with you and Larry !
Love reading about all the birds that inhabit your chunk of Paradise.

Cam came up for almost 2 minutes before the circling arrow intruded. Nest appears to be MT, but perhaps someone is sitting way over on the edge of the NHZ. Wonder what yesterdays false alarm was all about.

It is a good day for reading, doing puzzles and washing up the linens now that Seth is on his way back to the college dorm. Will head for NBC and the Games later and will surf back and forth to catch all the drama at DA !

Enjoy your Sunday everyone and I'll see you on President's Day !

Good afternoon all. I can see Cam but nest is empty now. Just curious - I see mentions of a Still Cam - how can I see it? Also - see mentions of Facebook - is there an Eagle Cam Facebook page - and how can I join? Thanks for any help. Hope all is well with everyone and everything. Paula - sounds like you have a busy but nice weekend. I know it's late...but Happy Valentine's Day to all my Momster friends. Hoping for warmer weather and an egg soon. Take care all.

Lolly, I am totally frustrated with the live feed today. Sometimes I can't get the page to load - not using Firefox, Chrome, or IE, not by refreshing or even completely closing the browser and reopening it. Other times, the live feed opens, runs for 5 or 6 minutes, then I get the twirling arrow and the page won't reload. And then other times (like now) the live feed starts and runs just fine - it's been running now for 40 minutes!

Anyway, nest looks MT as of this minute!

BTW, wanted to say to Jo, welcome back to the blog - I missed you!! How did you get things fixed? Did you have to create a new account?

Back to doing school work. We have decided to stay in Balto. again tonight and go to Madeline's early competition events tomorrow and then leave from the rink to head home at about 1:30. I have no idea when I'll get the income tax stuff done, the accounting updated for Denny's business, or my bathrooms cleaned, but it seemed like the right thing to do. So I'm trying to get as much schoolwork as possible done today.

Later!

It is really strange. When I click to open the cam the page comes up but remains a blank lt blue space. Need to shut down and try again.

Cam works well on iPhone
No one in view at the nest.
Windy.

Love your BIRD FRIENDS PAULA.
Glad you made a safe trip.
Sounds busy.
Healing Energy LARRY'S way.

Weather affects the laying of eggs.
Chemical pollution affects the laying of eggs.
Age of eagle affects the laying of eggs.

In the wild a 30 year old eagle is REALLY old.
25 year old eagle is old.
How old would Miss Belle be?
I am figuring 14 anyone else?
I do not think she is too old...
Must be the weather.
